Position: Public Safety Officer II - Armed
Location: Illinois Masonic Medical Center (IMMC); Chicago's Northside near Wrigleyville
Full Time; 2nd Shift

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides security services with professionalism, fairness, and compassion in even challenging circumstances and in accordance with policies, procedures, and training. Inspires confidence in patients, visitors, and team members by presenting a professional, approachable, and service-oriented appearance and demeanor. Is alert, observant, and ethical. Complies with and enforces all safety and security rules and regulations. Maintains Department uniform and equipment in good repair.
- Performs routine responsibilities during interior and exterior patrols to ensure safety and security, including but not limited to inspections to identify vulnerabilities, hazards, and fire conditions, audits of Interim Life Safety Measures, patient valuables management, and thorough contraband searches. Assists team members, patients, and visitors by providing information, directions, and physical help. Ensures traffic control, monitors conduct of visitors on premises, and confronts unauthorized persons for questioning.
- Prevents, responds to, and investigates workplace violence. Responds to service calls, such as combative or threatening patients or visitors and team member incidents. Serves as a primary resource for de-escalation.
- Performs key responsibilities to plan, prevent, practice, and respond to emergencies such as lost or abducted infants/children, fire, and active threats. Responds immediately to emergency and crisis situations; physically intervenes in accordance with training to situations that have a potential for injury.
- Investigates incidents that occur on Advocate Aurora property and completes timely and accurate reports. Addresses and escalates complaints to the appropriate leader and provides supporting documentation.
- Performs liaison rounding duties to cultivate close partnerships with all department and units. Delivers security awareness education to team members to leverage their assistance in the overall security of the site.
- Liaisons with state and local law enforcement and first responder agencies. Coordinates, briefs, and monitors every law enforcement prisoner patient guard to ensure policy compliance and prevent unsafe practices.
- Assists as a training resource for the Department. Serves as the preceptor for probationary officers and implements their orientation, onboarding, and assessment, compiles feedback, maintains training records for the department, trains competencies for all officers. Prepares lesson plans for officers that do not meet training expectations. Serves as a field instructor when assigned, maintains instructor level certifications, and provides training in accordance with standards.
- Assists department leaders in administrative duties such as reviewing required reports and records to ensure quality and accuracy; inspects uniforms, equipment, supplies and material and reports findings to the chain of command.
Maintains current Department training standards in radio communications, verbal de-escalation, stabilization, CPR, application of clinical restraints, conducted energy weapon (Taser), to include training on any/all department-issued equipment and/or requirements identified in the Annual Training Plan.
License/Registration/Certification Required:
- Security Officer Healthcare Certification (CHSO) issued by the International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) must be obtained on a one-time basis within two years of appointment to this role. Recertification is not required.
- A valid driver’s license issued by the Division of Motor Vehicle.
- Firearm Owners Identification (FOID) Card issued by the Illinois State Police, OR Concealed Carry Weapon (CCW) license issued by the Department of Justice (DOJ).
- Must meet State of IL Department of Financial and Professional Regulation licensing requirements and able to obtain a Firearm Control Card (FCC) for Proprietary Personnel within 90 days of hire.
- Certified in Conducted Energy Weapon (Taser) use within 90 days of hire and periodically thereafter.
Education Required:
- High School Diploma or GED
Experience Required:
- 4 years of experience in a security or public safety role that includes experiences in responding to emergent situations and identifying and resolving issues that pose a potential risk to patients, visitors, staff and/or property, or completion of 30 credit hours in a Criminal Justice, Police Science, or similar course of study from an accredited college or university and 3 years' work experience with 1 year of experience in a security/safety role.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
- Illinois team members must have completed State of Illinois 40-hour armed course with semi-automatic pistol endorsement.
- Willingness to carry a department authorized firearm while on duty. The firearm and level III holster must be purchased upon hire, supplied, and maintained by the Officer as outlined in the Public Safety Firearms Policy and approved by the Department Range Masters.
- Required annually to achieve a passing score of 70% or greater on the State of IL Mandatory Annual Active Duty and Retired Officer Handgun Qualification Course of Fire, un-assisted. Probationary Officers must complete range qualification within their 90-day probationary period and must attend the first qualification date within their probationary period.
- Demonstrated ability to exercise mature judgment and sound reasoning while maintaining a courteous and tactful demeanor in dealings with employees, visitors, and patients, even if they are verbally aggressive persons.
- Demonstrated experience in quickly assessing dangerous situations and taking appropriate action.
- Demonstrated ability in verbal and written communications.
- Ability to use a computer to document work such (Microsoft Word, Excel, navigating a web page, and database entry).
- “Must successfully pass background investigation, drug screen, pre-placement physical and psychological screening assessment post-offer, pre-employment and periodically thereafter. Teammates already employed in Public Safety Officer position prior to “7-28-24” will have 18 months to comply.”
- Ability to defend self and/or others in case of physical confrontations when de-escalation efforts fail and there is cause to detain a non-cooperative person who is committing a criminal act or fleeing and possess the ability to physically restrain a person against their will.
- Ability to communicate effectively with people; ability to hear radio and telephone communications at both high and low decibels.
- Ability to communicate via radio and telephone with clear diction without impediments.
- Must have the ability to interact appropriately with all team members, patients and visitors, especially under difficult circumstances.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
- Must sit, stand, walk, and drive throughout the workday and must lift up to 35 lbs. occasionally. Must be able to push/pull with 35 lbs. of force. Must possess the hand strength, dexterity, and ability to safely operate a firearm. Must perform all functions of operating, loading/un-loading, breaking down and cleaning a firearm un-assisted and without assist devices.
- Have 20/20 vision in both eyes or correctable to 20/20 with corrective lenses in both eyes.
- May be exposed to mechanical, electrical, chemical, explosive, and radiation hazards. Protective clothing must be worn as necessary.
- Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.
- Frequent exposure to aggressive behavior and emotionally charged situations.
- Must be able to handle personal stress and possible violence.
- Must be physically fit and able to walk all areas of the facilities and grounds, to restrain those who need restraint and be able to assist nursing staff with lifting patients of all sizes.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

~Weekends and Holiday On-Call/Emergency Call-Ins or Off Schedule Projects possible.
Major Responsibilities:
- Performs facility and equipment maintenance in accordance with applicable codes and standards. Documents through use of the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
- Proficient level of skill to maintain, troubleshoot and repair mechanical equipment such as motors, pumps, conveyors, doors, fans, boilers, heat exchangers, controls, etc. within defined parameters and with a moderate level of guidance/assistance.
- Proficient level of skill to maintain, troubleshoot and repair patient care equipment such as beds, wheelchairs, carts, tables, etc. where not maintained by other departments
- Proficient level of skill to maintain, troubleshoot and repair mechanical/electrical systems such as pneumatic tube, HVAC, refrigerators/freezers, ice machines, commercial kitchen equipment, electrical, plumbing, piped medical gas systems, specialized water systems etc. within defined parameters and with a moderate level of guidance/assistance.
- Performs other routine to moderately complex general maintenance functions in the area’s grounds maintenance, carpentry, painting, and snow removal.
- Respond and make repairs associated with emergencies such as leaks, floods, water outages, fires, power outages, equipment failures, etc. as directed or within defined emergency response plans.
- Respond to building occupant requests in a timely and professional manner. Performs zone maintenance rounding. Keeps requesters apprised of the status of corrective actions and service requests.
- Conducts preventive maintenance and performs equipment safety checks.
- Inspects and repairs fire doors, hardware, firewalls and smoke partitions.
- Reads blueprints and maintenance manuals to gain knowledge needed to complete assignments.
Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:
- Driver's license required.
Education Required:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
Experience Required:
- 2-4 Years of Experience in equipment maintenance
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
- Basic computer skills such as CMMS, building automation system, Microsoft Office.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, crawl, reach above shoulders, and twist frequently throughout the workday.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 lbs. from floor to overhead, lift up to 50 lbs. from floor to chest-level, lift and carry up to 50 lbs. at waist height a reasonable distance.
- Must be able to push/pull with 50 lbs. of force.
- Exposure to electrical and mechanical hazards and therefore knowledge of safety precautions.
- Position requires travel. May be exposed to road/weather hazards.

Position: Stationary Engineer II
Location: South Suburban hospital; Hazel Crest, IL.
Registry/PRN status - working on-call, as needed, to help fill in for departmental gaps and needs.
Shift may vary based on department need.
Major Responsibilities:
- Works within clearly defined standard operating procedures.
- Operates all campus heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment including boilers, steam absorption and centrifugal chillers, cooling towers, fans, pumps and systems in a manner that optimizes efficiency, safety, and occupant comfort per department policies and procedures with moderate level of guidance/assistance.
- Maintains accurate records and reports on all equipment startup, failures, problems, work in progress and completed work through logbooks and computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) with moderate level of guidance/assistance.
- Proficient level of skill to utilize BAS as a tool for both monitoring and controlling HVAC equipment. Responds to alarms in a timely and correct manner. Optimizes operation using trending reports as appropriate.
- Proficient level of skill to perform preventive maintenance on HVAC and other equipment as assigned per established procedures including inspection, cleaning, lubrication, adjustment, testing, flushing, minor repairs, rebuilding and replacing parts/components to ensure that systems remain within the established operating parameters.
- Proficient level of skill to troubleshoot issues with HVAC equipment determine the root cause in a timely manner. Executes repairs or installations with minimal impact to the hospital and patient care. Appropriately requests assistance as warranted by the situation.
- Responds to building occupant complaints in a timely and professional manner and takes appropriate corrective action. Keeps requester appraised of the status of corrective action.
- Maintains current daily logs, preventive maintenance records and equipment repair files to comply with local, state and federal regulatory requirements as directed.
- Performs routine general maintenance including painting, plumbing, carpentry, equipment testing and repair, ventilation, lighting, electrical, groundskeeping and snow removal. Performs repairs on a large variety of facility systems such as mechanical, electrical, building systems and other critical systems with moderate level of guidance/supervision.
- Provides timely and proper response to assigned service calls, work orders and preventative maintenance to maintain a safe and efficient environment. Documents all tasks and work time on the CMMS.
- Reads blueprints and maintenance manuals to gain knowledge needed to complete assignments.
Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:
- Stationary Engineer license from the municipality of work location or Power Engineer certification (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th or 5th Class) from either the National Institute for the Uniform Licensing of Power Engineers (NIULPE) or the American Society of Power Engineers (ASOPE). Equivalent certifications from federal organizations such as the United States Navy will also be considered.
Education Required:
- Advanced training beyond High School that includes the completion of technical training.
Experience Required:
- 2-4 Years of Stationary Engineering

This position assesses, plans, implements, evaluates and documents nursing care of patients in accordance with organizational policies and in accordance with standards of professional nursing practice utilizing the framework for professional nursing practice and development. 1. Assesses patient physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural and discharge planning needs. Goals for patient are realistic, measurable and developed in conjunction with the patient/family. Considers the physical, cultural, psychosocial, spiritual, age specific and educational needs of the patient in the plan of are. Plans care in collaboration with members of the multidisciplinary team. Reviews and revises the plan of care to reflect changing patient needs based on evaluation of the patient’s status.
3. Implements the plan of care through direct patient care, coordination, delegation and supervision of the activities of the health care team. Provides care based on physician orders and the nursing plan of care, in compliance with policies and procedures, standards of care, and regulatory agency requirements. Delegates appropriately, and provides nursing supervision in the provision of care to patients by other licensed nurses and other personnel. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Must possess a current, valid RN license in state of practice, temporary/interim RN license in state of practice, or compact RN licensure for current state of practice. BLS certification is required. Additional certification or continuing education may be required based on area of practice.
Relates throughout the interview process the experience, training and education needed to perform the job. Experience in the clinical area for which he or she is applying is desired.
