$24.10 - $36.15The EMT-Paramedic is responsible for implementing nursing/patient care based on knowledge and experience. The functions of an EMT-Paramedic are to collect patient health data, identify expected outcomes individualized to the patient, implement interventions identified in the plan of care, and evaluate the patient's progress toward attainment of the outcomes. This individual effectively interacts with the family and other interdisciplinary team members to maximize efforts and resources needed to ensure quality patient care based on established clinical practice standards. He/she works cooperatively with the medical staff and other hospital personnel who support the plan of care for addressing the multicultural and age appropriate care of adolescent, adult and geriatric patients. The EMT-Paramedic addresses the patient/family biological, emotional, developmental, psychosocial and educational needs while serving as a clinical resource to physicians, other personnel and management. In addition to supporting the organizational vision and mission, the EMT-Paramedic is able to independently perform job functions, contribute to the provision of quality nursing care through performance improvement activities, and is responsible for self-development.
Qualifications:
A. Education
1. High school diploma or GED from an accredited institute required
2. Graduate of an accredited school of EMT-Paramedic
B. Licensure/Certification
1.Valid Driver's license and driving record in accordance with facility policy
2. Current applicable state EMS Paramedic license
3. BCLS certification required annually
4. ACLS certification encouraged
5. Certification in a related specialty encouraged

Fills critical short term vacancies in designated areas. Registers and interviews patients, completes pre-admissions, and ensures information accuracy. Handles routine patient inquiries and issues. Works closely with other areas including departments and physician offices. Greets patients and processes them through to the appropriate area.
Essential Functions
- Registers or Pre-registers all scheduled patients for admission, partial hospitalization, and outpatient services.
- Verifies insurance coverage and obtains authorization for all services that requires authorization, pre-certification, and/or referral.
- Coordinates with patients and scheduling departments to reschedule procedures until authorization or patient payment can be arranged. Requests upfront payment of deposits from responsible party.
- Updates schedule for cancellations, rescheduling, and other changes on an ongoing basis.
This position frequently requires walking from different areas. Must be able to push a wheelchair with patient in it and maneuver through doors, up/down ramps and elevators. Must be able to respond quickly to medical STATS and emergencies. This position requires sitting frequently. Must be able to lift 20-50 pounds occasionally. Works in a fast-paced environment with numerous interruptions.

Major Responsibilities:
- Assists RN with daily care of patients including bathing, oral hygiene, feeding, activity orders and ambulation which may include use of therapeutic assistive devices, proper positioning, range of motion and special transferring as indicated.
- Measures and documents blood pressures, TPRs (Temperature, Pulse, Respiration), I & O (Intake and Output), daily weights, and other patient data as requested. Documents accurately in Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
- Performs purposeful rounding under direction of RN and promptly communicates observations, concerns, and needs of patient/family to RN. Documents appropriately.
- Participates in admission, transfer and discharge process under supervision of RN including room set up, orientation to room, removing linen, and proper management of patient belongings. Ensures patient call light is always in reach of patient and answers call-lights promptly.
- Collects urine, stool, and sputum specimens and performs point-of-care testing as indicated using approved process for accurate specimen labeling and identification. Maintains competency as required.
- Completes various errands as directed including pick-up and delivery of trays, charts, specimens, and reports. Maintains and orders stock for nursing area. Cleans equipment and work areas.
- Performs various patient positioning and transporting duties which require lifting and pushing/pulling while utilizing proper technique and assistive devices. Performs tasks related to nutritional needs of patient under direction of RN to include diet review, tray set up/removal, proper positioning and diet selection.
- Performs tasks related to maintaining skin integrity to include proper repositioning and skin care. Ensures special patient supplies and appliances are provided and maintained such as TED hose and sequential compression devices.
- Under the direction of RN and as determined by site/unit requirements, may be required to remove IVs, provide post mortem care, and bladder scans.
- Practices within policies and procedures of infection prevention by demonstrating hand hygiene and knowledge of sterile and aseptic procedures, proper disposal of contaminated materials and utilizing proper attire when in direct contact with patients in isolation.

This position coordinates a smooth patient flow process by answering phones, scheduling patient appointments, providing registration of patient and insurance information, obtaining required signatures following established processes, procedures and standards. CORE FUNCTIONS
1. Performs registration/check-in processes, including but not limited to performing data entry activities, providing patients with appropriate information and intake forms, obtaining necessary signatures and generating population health summary.
2. Verifies insurance eligibility benefits for services rendered with the payors and documents appropriately. Assists in obtaining or validating pre-certification, referrals, and authorizations
3. Calculates and collects patient liability according to verification of insurance benefits and expected reimbursement. Explains and provides financial policies and available resources for alternative payment arrangements to patients and their families.
4. Enters payments/charges for services rendered and performs daily payment/charge reconciliation in a timely and accurate manner. Balances cash drawer at the beginning and end of the day and prepares daily bank deposit with necessary paperwork sent to centralized billing for record purposes.
5. Schedules office visits and procedures within the medical practice(s) and external practices as necessary. Maximizes reimbursement by scheduling patients in accordance with payor plan provisions. Confirms patient appointments for the following day as necessary and ensures patients are properly prepared for visits.
6. Demonstrates proactive interpersonal communications skills while dealing with patient concerns through telephone calls, emails and in-person conversations. Optimizes patient flow by using effective customer service/communication skills by communicating to internal and external customers, care team, management, centralized services and HIMS.
7. Assists in responding to requests for patient medical records according to company policies and procedures, and state and federal laws.
8. Provides a variety of patient services to assist in patient flow including but not limited to escorting patients, taking vitals and patient history, assisting in patient treatment, distributing mail and fax information, ordering supplies, etc.
9. Works independently under regular supervision and follows structured work routines. Works in a fast paced, multi-task environment with high volume and immediacy needs requiring independent decision making and sound judgment to prioritize work and ensure appropriateness and timeliness of each patient’s care.
