RESPONSIBILITIES:
Recognizes and reports deviations from patient or established norms. Identifies deviations from established norms not related to chief patient’s complaints. Reports patient’s responses to treatment(s), and documents nursing interventions. Provides basic comfort and support according to patient needs. Fosters patient(s) and family participation in achieving optimum level of patient’s functioning and performing activities of daily living. Sets priorities in individual patient’s assignments. Seeks guidance and resources, when necessary, in management of patient care. Identifies and assesses emergency situations. Initiates appropriate response and intervention. Plans for potential needs during emergency situations. Defines nursing diagnosis and expected patient’s outcomes. May modify nursing plan of care based on diagnosis and/or outcomes. The Registered Nurse maintains knowledge of contemporary, professional nursing practice within the legal framework of the Rhode Island Nurse Practice Act. Attends training and retraining, as needed, to maintain current knowledge of hospital and patient’s care practices and procedures. Utilizes established protocols and collaborates with the health team to facilitate therapeutic interventions and attainment of desired patient outcomes. Participates in quality improvement processes and risk management activities. Attends unit-based, or hospital meetings to facilitate patient care management. Functions in a cooperative and productive manner in the work environment. Integrates complete physical assessment with nursing assessment, and records reviews in developing a comprehensive and individualized plan of care. Follows all documentation guidelines per policy and procedure. Maintains quality assurance, safety, environmental, and infection control in accordance with established hospital department policies, procedures, and objectives.
Maintains safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff. Demonstrates self-direction in maintaining and advancing clinical and professional competency. Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span with consideration of aging processes, human development stages, and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.Provides functional guidance and direction to LPNs, CNAs, and other licensed personnel, as required.May assume shift charge responsibility on an assigned unit. Responsibility includes maintaining an overview of unit activities and delegating work responsibilities with equitable assignments. Makes bed and patient assignments and assigns primary patients to staff.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Licensure as Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island by the Rhode Island Board of Nursing or licensure as a Registered Nurse in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact agreement of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing.
BASIC KNOWLEDGE:
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing, associate’s degree in nursing required, Baccalaureate in nursing preferred. Current BLS Certification (American Heart Association)Conformity to the Code of Professional Nurses. Understanding of the provisions of the Nurse Practice Act of the state of Rhode Island. Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span with consideration of aging processes, human development stages and sensitivity to cultural diversity in each step of the care process.
EXPERIENCE:
Registered nurses should develop general proficiency as a staff nurse within three months of employment. For specialty unit, general nursing experience appropriate to the specialty, is preferred.

SUMMARY:
Under the general supervision of Manager, Medical Imaging, following established policies and procedures, oversees and coordinates the work of Radiologic Technologists and support personnel in the performance of a variety of technical radiologic procedures.
Provides guidance and supervision to technologist and students on imaging procedures. Assures efficient scheduling of patients and room availability; develops appropriate work schedules for staff to support anticipated needs. Maintains appropriate inventories of medical and radiology supplies, assures operating integrity of equipment and performs clerical and administrative functions as necessary. Regularly performs all functions of a Radiologic Technologist. Maintains highest level of compliance by meeting regulatory needs of but not limited to American College of Radiology and The Joint Commission.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Schedules work time, holidays, sick time and vacation coverage of employees within unit which provides diagnostic radiographs to physicians for use in diagnosis and treatment of patients.
Provides assistance with problems, and communicates new or changed policies and procedures to unit personnel. Counsels, guides, and evaluates the performance of employees regularly assigned to the unit. May provide input on hiring or disciplinary action.
Responsible for the efficient patient flow by scheduling patient examinations, and coordinating work assignment of employees while giving consideration to the current volume of examination orders, type of radiography required, and the availability of equipment and facilities.
Provides for the clinical experience of radiologic Technology students, instructing and guiding students through radiological procedures in the area of responsibility. May review performance of student with instructor.
Regularly checks radiographs performed by technologists in the unit for quality control purposes.
Performs clerical and/or administrative tasks such as conducting inventory and ordering supplies; compiling statistics; checking equipment for proper operating condition, and arranging for repair when needed; providing input for budgetary needs.
Assumes charge-duty responsibility during weekends in the absence of regularly scheduled supervisory personnel on a routine basis.
Understands and practices ALARA principles of radiation Protection including the use and exchange of personal dosimeters.
Regularly performs all functions of a Radiologic Technologist.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
BASIC KNOWLEDGE:
Registration through the American Registry for radiologic technologists as well as two years formal training in an accredited School of radiologic Technology required.
Current and valid license from the Department of Health to practice in the State of Rhode Island.
Must hold a current CPR certification from AHA, BLS for Healthcare Providers.
Ability to operate all types of radiographic and related equipment, push portable radiographic equipment, and transfer and position patients.
Conceptual ability to determine means of providing the requested radiographs of acceptable diagnostic quality based on the specifics of each case.
Interpersonal skills to interact effectively with patients who may be under physical and/or emotional stress, to instruct students and employees in radiologic technique, and provides leadership to other employees.
Ability to organize and coordinate the operation of a unit.
Analytical skills to compile and interpret routine data.
Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care patients with consideration of aging processes, human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.
EXPERIENCE:
One to two years of increasing responsibility and experience in a hospital Radiology Department.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Work location is in Main Radiology Department or in smaller satellite operation where there is little discomfort due to noise, dust, or temperature.
Exposure to radiation, but with little chance of illness or injury when established safety precautions are followed.
Continuous standing, walking, pushing of portable radiographic equipment, and lifting and positioning patients is required.
Some exposure to odors from human waste and chemicals from automatic film processing equipment.

- Complete vital signs per hospital policy or as ordered by physician/RN request
- Document patient’s reported pain using appropriate pain scale

UMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Registered Nurse and within hospital and department policies and procedures, assists in caring for patients and/or families from admission to discharge.
DEFINTION:
A nursing assistant is a paraprofessional trained to provide personal care and related health care and assistance to individuals who are sick, disabled, or infirm, and who are residents of or receiving services from health care facilities or agencies licensed by the state and holds a license as a nursing assistant issued by the Department of Health.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Duties of Nursing Assistants: Collaborate with Registered Nurse to organize work and set priorities. Under the supervision of the Registered Nurse, performs:
1. Personal Care Skills.
2. Basic Nursing Assistant Skills: As outlined by the Rhode Island Department of Health Professional Licensing and Facility Regulation.
3. Rehabilitation Skills: Performs daily activities of living, ambulates patient as appropriate.
4. Maintenance of Safe Environment: Reports unsafe conditions/situations to Registered Nurse, manager, or supervisor; reports equipment in need of repair and removes from service.
5. Recognition of and Reporting Signs and Symptoms: Communicates all pertinent patient observations to the Registered Nurse.
6. Safety: Maintains quality assurance and infection control, in accordance with established hospital and department policies, procedures and objectives. Accurately documents data in the EHR, patient care flowsheet, clinical data records; demonstrates ability to perform responsibilities in emergency/code situations. May function as a patient observer.
Performs other related duties as required.
