SUMMARY:
Under general supervision of the MRI Manager, Medical Imaging and Lead MRI Technologists for the MRI Division, and according to standard procedures, operates an MRI unit and related equipment, in order to produce MR images of any designated anatomical area. Collects and completes records on patient data and equipment operation. Provide assistance to patients and radiologists. Solve minor equipment problems. Performs calibration tests and other quality control functions on equipment, and notifies service personnel as required. RESPONSIBILITIES:
Understands and practices principles of safety with regards to strong magnetic fields as those generated by MRI systems per RIH “MRI MAGNETIC FIELD SAFETY GUIDELINES” (Policy MRI-02).
Prepares and tests the MRI unit for daily operation.
Recognizes and reports any equipment problems, errors and malfunctions.
Ability to troubleshoot equipment problems per department guidelines and/or vendor assistance.
Screens all patients, visitors and non-MRI personnel prior to entry into zones 3 & 4 of the MRI department and obtaining radiologist approval when necessary.
Appraises physical condition and level of cooperation of all patients to determine ability to comply with and tolerate the MRI exam.
Selects proper technical factors, utilizes & manipulates appropriate parameters on an individual patient basis.
Verifies and/or obtains informed consent for examinations requiring consent.
Able to record, obtain and communicate appropriate medical history from: patient, chart, referring physician, and/or electronic medical record needed to complete the study.
Including patient labs (i.e. creatinine to calculate eGFR) in addition to the patient history to assess the need for radiologist approval for contrast.
Accurately performs eGFR calculations and obtains approval for the administration of contrast when necessary.
Accurately calculates and administers contrast per the department guidelines and dosage charts.
Positions patients for imaging to obtain satisfactory examinations and performs requested procedures.
Protects and immobilizes patients in accordance with prescribed safety standards.
Utilizes a wide variety of technical equipment including computers, radio frequency and gradient coils, power injectors, monitoring and other miscellaneous equipment to produce MRI images.
Ability to perform complex imaging of cross-sectional, multi-planar generated MR images, recognizing normal pertinent anatomy.
Prepares, labels & QCs images to be interpreted by the radiologist, including appropriate laterality, contrast amount/type, tech ID, image weighting, saturation techniques, etc.
Assists the radiologists to implement new protocols.
Participates in in-service education programs for technical staff and other hospital support groups.
Participates in clinical instruction and supervision of radiology students and newly hired staff.
Maintains a thorough knowledge of the latest developments in the MRI field.
Maintains knowledge of nursing procedures such as sterile techniques and infection control.
Able to assist with discharge instructions following MR exams / procedures.
Observes established departmental policies and guidelines, as well as state, local and federal regulations.
Maintains ethical conduct with all medical and non-medical personnel.
Upholds Diagnostic Imaging Universal Standards & Expectations in the MRI work environment.
Maintains working area in a clean and orderly condition.
Performs other related duties as assigned and/or required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
BASIC KNOWLEDGE:
This position requires thorough knowledge of a specialized MRI technology.
Must be registered and in good standing with the American Registry of Radiological Technology (ARRT) or the American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (ARMRIT).
Knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy advanced MRI applications and computer operations.
MRI certification through the ARRT. New grads may obtain within 90 days of hire
Current BLS Certification from AHA, BLS for Healthcare Providers. Basic understanding of the operation of computer consoles.
An in-depth knowledge of the MRI equipment in order to analyze equipment problems and arrange for its repair.
Appropriate interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively with patients, patients’ families, departmental staff, physicians and others.
EXPERIENCE:
Six months recent experience as an MRI Technologist or successful completion of an accredited MRI program with a minimum of 1200 clinical hours completed.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Individual has prior experience working in a healthcare environment such as acute care hospitals, physicians’ offices or ancillary healthcare enterprises. Works with medical equipment and has direct patient contact. Any potential hazards are minimized by adherence to established safety procedures and precautions including use safety equipment and protective clothing. Individual will have exposure to high magnetic fields. Applicant cannot have any physical condition that would be aggravated by magnetic fields, acoustic noise, and occasional RF exposure. Ability to utilize and obtain basic vital signs (i.e. blood pressure, heart rate, pulse ox). Able to competently insert &remove IVs for contrast administration. Ability to learn to administer IM injections per radiologist instructions. May be in contact with patients with communicable diseases. Ability to hear verbal direct request from physicians, patients, etc. Ability to crouch, reach and lift to allow appropriate manipulation, positioning and placement of MR coils and ancillary equipment. Ability to see for appropriate visualization in the MRI environment. Ability to lift and move patients to and from scanner table, transport patients in wheelchairs and/or stretchers.

Responsibilities:
Partners with medical staff and other members of the healthcare team in collaboration with the patient/family to facilitate the plan of care for a defined patient population across the continuum of care. Identifies a high-risk patient population within the caseload for care management assessment screening and targets interventions in conjunction with the healthcare team within one business day of patient admission
Participates in daily care rounds to collaborate with members of the patient 's healthcare team as well as to evaluate and facilitate development and implementation of the discharge planning process. Develops the initial patient discharge plan and reviews with patient, family members and other members of the interdisciplinary team. Reassesses the discharge plan daily during collaborative care rounds.
Proactively builds post hospital referrals and sends to the Transition Care Coordinator when indicated to facilitate timely discharge.
Delivers Important Message follow-up notices to all Medicare patients according to CMS regulations. Follows CMS and DOH regulations in relationship to discharge guidelines and patient rights.
Coordinates the length of stay with the physician care team and patient. Ensures team is informed of insurance qualifiers that may affect the discharge plan. Discuss approaching discharge readiness of patients. Identify and assess readmitted patients and complex patients in collaboration with members of the healthcare team to coordinate discharge.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Transports patients to and from the surgical suite. Reviews preoperative patient charts in order to ensure that all forms are signed and that all tests are completed; informs appropriate nursing personnel of discrepancy.
Assists in surgical room preparation by ensuring basic supplies are available such as blankets, solutions, and syringes. Cleans furniture and equipment between cases. Obtains necessary supplies and equipment required for specific procedure.
Assists in prepping patients for surgery; assists with preoperative scrubs; lifts and moves and positions patients, supports and holds patients for spinal anesthesia injection and the like.

Assists in general cleaning and maintenance of the Operating Room such as washing equipment, sorting and stocking supplies, cleaning room, washing stretchers and changing light bulbs and the like.
Cleans, dries, packages and seals a variety of supplies and material to be sterilized, such as washing, assembling and wrapping basin sets for sterilization. Occasionally operates steam/water pressure sterilizers in order to clean and sterilize items.
Assembles patient record packs of charge slips, appropriate for specific surgical procedure, to be completed by others.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs the necessary investigations to identify the probable causes and suggest potential resolutions to incidents or issues raised by staff / clients; e.g. Outreach clients, physicians etc.
Prepares and determines suitability of solutions, reagents and stains following standard laboratory formulas and procedures; may prepare variations of same for special tests.
Applies an advanced level of knowledge and/or experience in a specific laboratory section in order to conduct and interpret routine, specialized and or innovative tests and analyses.
Participates in research projects within assigned laboratory section, as well as the review, analysis, development, and implementation of new and improved clinical laboratory procedures and techniques.
Performs complex clinical laboratory tests in the Pathology Department, which require a professional level of knowledge in order to monitor testing procedures and parameters, and to interpret and analyze test results.
Records and reviews test results for accuracy and prepares test reports; relays test results and/or reports to physicians or others authorized to receive them. Discusses findings with physicians when necessary.
Utilizes advanced knowledge in order to function as a technical resource person for other technical personnel within the Specialists' area of specialization. Provides guidance and direction in resolving difficult problems, such as discerning the cause of unusual or atypical reactions, setting up complex testing procedures, trouble-shooting equipment and instrumentation malfunctions, defining testing parameters, etc.

Participates in the orientation and training of new employees in their assigned laboratory section.

Monitors equipment operation; sets up and calibrates equipment, troubleshoots operational problems and performs preventative maintenance and minor repairs. Cleans and maintains laboratory equipment, glassware, instruments, work benches, etc.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
BASIC KNOWLEDGE:
High school graduate or its equivalent preferred.
Entry level credentialing of secretarial and nursing assistant skills.
Current Rhode Island registration as a Nursing Assistant.
Certified in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS).
Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the Brown University Health, with consideration of aging processes, human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.

SUMMARY
Under the general supervision of the Transplant Administrator, the Living Donor Outreach Specialist serves as the primary community-facing representative for the Living Donor Program. This role is responsible for expanding awareness of living kidney donation, increasing referral volume, and strengthening relationships with community partners, patients, and referring providers.
The role also supports donor engagement and navigation throughout the evaluation process, ensuring a responsive, informed, and patient-centered experience from initial inquiry through donation.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Community Outreach & Program Growth
- Conduct outreach to increase awareness of living kidney donation.
- Deliver presentations to community groups, dialysis centers, patients, and providers.
- Represent the program at health fairs and outreach events.
- Build and maintain referral networks and partnerships.
- Support marketing and digital outreach efforts.
- Promote donor advocacy and engagement initiatives.
- Identify barriers and opportunities to improve donation access.
Donor Engagement & Navigation
- Support donor follow-up and communication throughout the evaluation process.
- Assist with donor education materials (in-person, virtual, off-site)
- Guide donors through evaluation appointments and clinic flow.
- Ensure a supportive and patient-centered donor experience.
Coordination, Scheduling & Administration
- Manage referrals and maintain donor tracking systems.
- Schedule evaluations, follow-ups, and testing (CT, GTT, ABPM, fast-track, same-day visits)
- Obtain and organize medical records (PMH) and donor documentation.
- Prepare charts, packets, binders, and pre-op materials.
- Track labs, crossmatches (XMs), and required testing completion.
- Maintain donor databases (Excel or similar systems)
- Support committee meetings, documentation, billing tasks, and correspondence.
Data, Quality & Program Support
- Track referrals, outreach activity, and conversion metrics.
- Support quality improvement and program development initiatives.
- Maintain accurate reporting and donor tracking systems.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Associate’s degree required, Bachelor’s degree in healthcare, communications, public health, or related field preferred.
- 2–4 years of experience in healthcare coordination, outreach, or patient engagement preferred
- Strong communication, presentation, and people skills
- Excellent organization and attention to detail
- Ability to manage both field outreach and administrative responsibilities.
