Position Purpose:

Position Summary:
Patient Care Assistant, PCA works in a collaborative environment to deliver excellent patient care under the direction of a RN. A Patient Care Assistant, PCA is expected to assist the patient in maintaining good hygiene, activities of daily living and to support quality of patient care.
What Patient Care Assistant, PCA will do:
- Respond to patient call lights for assistance or by rounding.
- Provide or assist patients with personal hygiene including showers, oral hygiene and dressing/undressing.

POSITION PURPOSE
Provides daily pharmacy technical and professional services to inpatients, outpatients and other Health Center departments. Dispenses prescriptions and counsels patients on the correct use of medications. Provides drug information to patients and health care professionals in the Health Center. Responds to routine and emergency requests in a prompt, efficient manner requiring some independent judgment, a good level of technical knowledge and a high degree of accuracy. The consequences of a compounding or drug selection error, if undetected, could result in serious patient injury.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1.Performs all functions of a Pharmacy Technician on a regular basis.
2.Reviews, processes and dispenses outpatient prescriptions and counsels outpatients on the proper use of medication. Receives verbal prescriptions from physician for outpatient dispensing.
3.Reviews written medication orders to determine clarity, reasonable dose, schedule and appropriate medication usage. Consults directly with physicians if change or clarification is needed and enters appropriate clarifications in patient’s charts.
4.Checks unit dose cart fill for accuracy and completeness against computer printout.
5.Compounds special topical and internal dosage forms not available through pharmaceutical manufacturers in accordance with established departmental practice.
6.Maintains good rapport and cooperative relationships. Approaches conflict in a constructive manner. Helps to identify problems, offer solutions, and participate in their resolution.
7.Maintains the confidentiality of information acquired pertaining to patient, physicians, associates, and visitors to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital. Discusses patient and hospital information only among appropriate personnel in appropriately private places
8.Behaves in accordance with the Mission, Vision and Values of Mission Health.
9.Assumes responsibility for performance of job duties in the safest possible manner, to assure personal safety and that of coworkers, and to report all preventable hazards and unsafe practices immediately to management.
10.Performs duties in compliance with all federal, state and local regulatory requirements.
OTHER FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1.Participates in ongoing studies, projects and clinical research under the direction of the management and the clinical staff.
2.Participates in Drug Use Evaluation (DUE) and Adverse Drug Reaction (ADR) programs.
Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE
Education:
Currently enrolled in at least the first professional year of study in an accredited college or school of Pharmacy.
Licensure:
Current State of Michigan License as a Pharmacy Intern
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES
1.Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations accurately as documented by the successful completion of an internal examination.
2.Ability to stand for long periods of time (at least four and up to eight hours per day) or to walk long distances without difficulty.
3.Basic typing skills. Basic computer skills to do order entry, generate reports, retrieve data and diagnose minor printer problems.
4.Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail for up to 100%of the time when processing medication orders including: Cartfill, Outpatient, Inpatient, Order Entry, First Dosing, Intravenous Room Set-up, Intravenous Admixture, and Bulk Manufacturing.
5.Ability to work independently and exercise good judgment when prioritizing work responsibilities.
6.Ability to successfully complete an internal examination covering departmental procedures in all work areas. Ability to successfully complete an Aseptic Technique Testing and Challenge Kit on a regular basis.
7.Interpersonal skills necessary for effective communications with patients, physicians, nurses, and other health care personnel in order to explain prescription use and gather and exchange other medication information.
8.Analytical skills needed to effectively review the appropriateness of medication orders and to respond to drug information questions.

Position Purpose:
Under the direction of a technologist / radiologist, the imaging care technician (ICT) is responsible for direct patient care considering age specific, developmental, cultural and spiritual needs. ICT demonstrates department-designated competencies. The ICT will assist in establishing and maintaining a patient care environment that is clean, safe and conducive to patient/family wellbeing including concepts of relationship centered care.

What the Imaging Care Technician will need:
HS Diploma required
Six (6) months of previous related experience in the area of patient care delivery.
Successful completion of formal department orientation required to meet the quality and productivity standards of the job.
Interpersonal skills necessary to effectively communicate with patients, families, and other employees
Ability to:
Follow instructions and record patient information.
Prioritize assigned tasks and organize work.
Walk and stand for 90% of shift.
Lift, turn, and position patients.
Concentrate and pay close attention to details for over 90% of time.
Able to work in area with potential exposure to infectious agents and/or contaminants.
What the Imaging Care Technician will do:
Prepare exam room for arrival, assists in transfers to/from modality table and assists in discharge of patients
Orient patient/family to waiting and changing areas
Prepare patient for exam
Verify patient name, date of birth and medical record number and exam to be performed
Obtain pertinent information from patient chart such as admitting assessment/diagnosis, allergies, list of medications
Perform modality specific patient interviews / tasks as delegated such as pre-MRI screening form, contrast forms, patient history forms, discontinue peripheral intravenous
Collect/send/transport labeled specimens to the lab
Perform activities which may be modality specific such as venipuncture, obtaining blood specimens, starting and discontinuing IV lines (not to include regulating drip rate), routine oxygen therapy, pulse oximetry
Gather data for post procedure check such as peripheral pulses, vital signs, presence of hematoma and circulation checks
Perform patient care functions within but not limited to PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication System), RIS (Radiology Information System), Hospital Order-Entry System
Record patient information and required data in appropriate areas.
Transport patient as needed.
Clean and maintain equipment according to procedures
Attends annual BLS certification.

Position Purpose:
Provides patient focused customer service within the Emergency Department. Performs outpatient & / or inpatient registration & insurance verification functions; collects patient financial liability payments & ensures that patients meet financial requirements including Medicare medical necessity, payer pre-certifications & referrals. - Assumes accountability for cash, etc. at the end of each shift by verifying register tapes, posting necessary adjustments. Assists with balancing cash drawers. Complies with Health System and Department policies, procedures, practices and regulations when handling currency, checks, charges, etc.
- Ensures cash drawer has the appropriate level of cash available and obtains additional change as necessary.
- Maintains food product inventory including ordering from approved vendors, monitoring inventory levels to maximize turnover and minimize spoilage and waste. Maintains adequate inventory controls in the sales area.
- Participates in the annual inventory process and other inventories as needed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Represents the Health System by providing assistance and guidance to all patients, staff and visitors to the SJMHS West Market Campuses.
Patrols and monitors the internal and external activities of the grounds, parking lots, structures, and buildings to ensure compliance with health center policies, state law, and federal laws, responding to and reporting any and all violations to a command officer. Responds to any and all reports of criminal activity and effect arrests as appropriate within the parameters of security police policy/procedures, state and federal law, and Michigan Commission of Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES); utilizing the necessary force to effect arrest, using handcuffs, and other restraints in accordance with department procedures, policies and regulations.
Responds to a variety of potential and/or real emergencies, fire and building alarms, ordinary events (patient standby/restraint), person(s) with weapons, medical emergencies, and/or any other public safety related incident. Exercise reasonable independent judgment within legal parameters of law to determine when there is reasonable suspicion to detain and/or search, when probable cause exists to arrest, and the appropriate application of force used to preserve life and property.
Completes a daily activity report documenting non-routine activities for referral to the appropriate manager.
Completes a written report involving a complaint and/or investigation of criminal activity, violation of security policy and procedure, suspicious activity, and/or any incident involving the use of force. The Security Police Officer shall utilize the appropriate documenting procedures and complete the report in its entirety.
Completes as assigned all defibrillator and vehicle maintenance checks.
Maintains all security police equipment in working condition. Proactively recognizes and reports to command officer any safety risks and/or hazards and when possible takes immediate action to reduce or remove the risk and/or hazard.
Responds to complaints generated by patients, staff, and visitors including reports of lost property, suspicious activity, improper access and suspicious packages.
Responds to general assist calls generated by patients, staff, and visitors, including locking/unlocking doors, vehicle lockouts and jumpstarts, wheelchair assists, and or any customer service related issues.
Reports to Grounds any parking lot gates not functioning properly. Issues citations for improper parking, handicap, and fire lane violations.
Self-reports to a command officer any off-duty police contact, arrests, and court orders such as Injunctions, Personal Protection Orders, and legal proceedings that would prevent the Security Police Officer from owning, possessing, or carrying a firearm i.e. Domestic Violence Order, or conditional bond release. Failure to report this information will result in immediate termination.
Maintains good rapport and cooperative relationships. Approaches conflict in a constructive manner. Identifies problems, offers solutions, and participates in their resolution.
Maintains the confidentiality of information acquired pertaining to patient, physicians, associates, and visitors to St. Joseph Mercy Health System. Discusses patient and hospital information only among appropriate personnel in appropriately private places.

Required Qualifications:

Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association

Must have good working knowledge of anatomy and understanding of the principles of physics, electricity, variations of anatomical positions – supine, prone, etc.

What the Radiology Technologist will do:
Review requests for procedures, using reason(s) for the procedures, department protocols, physician recommendations and personal judgment to determine region(s) to be examined and diagnostic images to be obtained.
Prepare patients for diagnostic procedures by explaining the procedure, transferring and positioning patients, attaching or arranging immobilization and support devices, instructing and reassuring patients, using care, courtesy and tact.
Assist the Radiologist in performance of routine radiographs, adjusts, manipulates and controls a variety of imaging equipment, and accessories used in performing diagnostic procedures.
Monitor patient's condition before and during performance of diagnostic procedures, recognizing changes that may require emergency actions and initiating appropriate responses.
Document procedure verification and procedural, using a computerized system, and determines need for and performs necessary re-imaging.
Collect all completed diagnostic PACS images and forwards to appropriate location(s) for interpretation and results reporting.
Practice sterile, isolation and aseptic techniques to prevent contamination, and maintains documentation of infection control procedures and activities.
Monitor quality control on a daily basis; reports operational and functional equipment problems to appropriate personnel. .

Overview of Infusion Clinic:
Our Infusion Clinic provides a variety of treatments to both Oncology and Non-Oncology patients. For our Oncology patients, these treatments include chemotherapy, Immunotherapy, IV hydration, blood products, Injections, Iron, phlebotomies, Bone Marrow Biopsies, and other infusion therapies related to supportive care for these patients. These treatments are provided to both our Hematology-Oncology Patients and our Gynecology Oncology Patients. Many of these patients may be on a Clinical Research trial or receiving combined modality treatment with Radiation Therapy.
We also support many other specialties such as Rheumatology, Neurology, OB, Huron Gastro, Primary Care providers, etc and the specialized care required for these patients.
Our Infusion Clinic is supported by our Infusion Nurses, Medical Assistants, Infusion Schedulers, Nurse Coordinator, Education Coordinator, and Infusion Manager.
Job Duties:
Our Infusion MA's provide support to the nursing team, while also providing care to our Infusion patients. Our MA's are trained to give SubQ injections, access Ports & start IV's. Our MA's support the nursing team by obtaining Vital signs, Height/Weights, ordering supplies, stocking, cleaning bays, answering call lights, bring patients back and any other delegated tasks.
We utilize EPIC as our EMR
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE
Education: High School diploma or equivalent.
Successful completion of Medical Assistant training from an accredited school or at least 1 year of work experience as an MA or in a similar patient care role.
Will consider a student in a medical focused field of study that is able to meet the scheduling needs of the department (SEE ABOVE)
Experience: No previous experience required if MA training has been completed. Prior experience in an Oncology clinic preferred.
Licensure: BLS annual certificate.

The Telemetry Monitor Technician (TMT) will monitor, recognize and report cardiac arrhythmias to the RN caring for the patient. · Monitors a group of patients using continuous tele-visual monitoring to assure patient safety including patients at risk for falls, elopement, or other safety issues as identified by the nurse.
· Documents cardiac rhythms on the Cardiac Monitor Flow Sheet and patient behaviors/interventions on the Patient Monitoring Log.
· Prints cardiac rhythm strips and calculates P-R, QRS, and QT intervals once a shift and as needed or utilizes E-calipers and documents on Cardiac Monitoring Flow Sheet.
· Delivers rhythm strips and other patient care documentation to the patient care units as needed.
· Notifies RN of alarms or changes in rhythm or heart rate.
· Verbally redirects patients to promote patient safety including reminding patient to stay in bed, not pull at tubes, etc. When patient does not respond to verbal redirection, communicates with assigned unit caregivers to provide patient assistance.
· Collaborates with nursing leadership to prioritize/allocate use of monitoring resources such as telemetry and continuous visual monitoring cameras.
· Delivers telemetry and/or other monitoring equipment to floor, then nursing staff performs monitor hook up, patient preparation and teaching related to cardiac monitor.
· Disconnects, cleans and returns monitors and video cameras to the Central Monitoring Area upon completion of use.
· Troubleshoots equipment, assisting with battery replacement and leads off as needed.
· Maintains equipment and supplies.
· Maintains good rapport and cooperative relationships. Approaches conflict in a constructive manner. Helps to identify problems, offer solutions, and participates in their resolution.
· Maintains the confidentiality of information acquired pertaining to patients, physicians, employees, and visitors to Saint Joseph Mercy Health System. Discusses patient and hospital information only among appropriate personnel in appropriately private places.
· Assumes responsibility for performance of job duties in the safest possible manner, to assure personal safety and that of coworkers, and to report all preventable hazards and unsafe practices immediately to management.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Education:
· High School Diploma or equivalent.
Experience:
- Must be able to read and write English at a high school level.
- Ability to perform some arithmetic calculations to calculate cardiac intervals.
- Previous experience reading monitors or EKGs required.
- Must successfully complete a basic arrhythmia class and receive a passing score within first 30 days of employment.
- Must complete an arrhythmia competency test and receive a passing score during the annual CMT Blitz education.
- Must be able to communicate clearly and concisely with various health care team members.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to work under stressful situations, remain calm, work at a fast pace while maintaining accuracy in work.
- Must be able to sit for long periods of time, watching computer screens and also be able to walk long distances.
- Adequate visual acuity to observe cardiac monitors for long periods of time and to analyze monitor strips.
