5W: This 32-bed Inpatient Behavioral Health Unit provides comprehensive care for patients with a variety of psychiatric conditions, including depression, schizophrenia, mood disorders, psychosis, and more. Treatment is delivered in structured group settings within a therapeutic milieu, fostering engagement and recovery. The unit also provides post-ECT (Electroconvulsive Therapy) care, ensuring safe and supportive transitions for patients undergoing advanced treatments. Nurses in this environment play a vital role in promoting mental health, safety, and compassionate care.
SUMMARY: The Registered Nurse is accountable for the management of patient care during a designated timeframe. The responsibilities include coordination and evaluation of care, teaching and delegation of patient activities to the other health care team members via therapeutic use of self, the nursing process, and the environment.
REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred; Associates degree in Nursing required. BSN degree preferred or must agree in writing to obtain a BSN within five years. Current RN licensure in the State of Michigan required. BLS required. Previous medical surgical experience preferred. Must be computer proficient and have excellent customer service skills.

The PCA, under the direction of a registered nurse, is responsible for direct patient care considering age specific, developmental, cultural and spiritual needs. What you will do:
- Training is provided to prepare our colleagues for success.
- The PCA assists patient in completing ADLs including: Bathing, showering, toileting, positioning, turning, transferring, ambulation using assistive devices and with feeding and menu selection.
- 2 East cares for high acuity surgical patients who require frequent monitoring, multiple lines/tubes, and complex nursing care.
- The 32-bed unit specializes in Core Surgical Services, Cardiothoracic Surgery, Vascular Surgery. Additional Surgical Populations include General Surgery, Trauma, and Plastic Surgery; a fast paced, dynamic unit known for High volume and high patient turnover.

Hospice RNs position summary
Our Hospice RNs provides professional nursing care to the organization’s hospice clients as prescribed by the physician, and/or requested by the client/family, and in compliance with the state’s Nurse Practice Act, any applicable licensure/certification requirements, and the organization’s policies and procedures. The RN is fully responsible for the client assessment, care planning, therapeutic intervention, and overall supervision of client care and outcomes, is designated as the case manager for hospice patients. The Hospice RN in collaboration with the physician and other Hospice team members anticipates and manages patient’s symptoms, assists in identifying pt/family/caregiver grief/loss issues and assists in implementing the Hospice plan of care. Provides functional support to Hospice Aides and LPN/LVNs as needed.

Minimum qualifications
Current Registered Nurse licensure in the state of practice.
Must have a minimum of one (1) year experience as a professional acute care nurse.
Home healthcare/hospice experience preferred.
Exhibits strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a special emphasis on grief/loss management.
Must have current Driver’s license and reliable transportation to and from work site.

- Reduce workplace violence- Collaborate with hospital security, Risk, nursing, and other multidisciplinary colleagues to assist with crisis interventions using de-escalation techniques and behavior plans to reduce violence in the workplace.
- Collaborate with hospital security and the police when violent injuries (i.e., gun violence, etc.) present to the hospital to reduce further risk to patients, staff, and the community.
- Knowledge of hospital-based programs, physician practice characteristics, utilization management, and professional referral networks.

- Knowledge of community service organizations (i.e. CMH, DHHS, shelters, transportation, etc.) and the types of assistance they provide.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Work variable shifts (i.e., 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 8hr or 12 hr), holidays and weekends to support the needs of an acute care hospital.
- Respond to Call Downs- Prioritize workload demands to respond and support acute care call downs and codes (i.e., trauma, stroke, AMI, Code blue, etc.).
- Considerable ability to communicate effectively with distressed persons under adverse conditions.
- Cover multiple units (i.e., ICU, med/surg, specialty, etc.) and prioritize needs according to acuity.
- Basic understanding of the patient acute care model and coordinating report for smooth transfers within the hospital, healthcare system and external facilities.
- Reduce workplace violence- Collaborate with hospital security, Risk, nursing, and other multidisciplinary colleagues to assist with crisis interventions using de-escalation techniques and behavior plans to reduce violence in the workplace.
- Collaborate with hospital security and the police when violent injuries (i.e., gun violence, etc.) present to the hospital to reduce further risk to patients, staff, and the community.
- Knowledge of hospital-based programs, physician practice characteristics, utilization management, and professional referral networks.
- Considerable knowledge of/and ability to utilize empathy, crisis assessment, intervention, and counseling techniques.
- Assesses the nature of a crisis and the immediate social/emotional needs and strengths of the patient, family, and staff to provide appropriate intervention.
- Advanced knowledge and understanding of mental health and suicide.
- Basic knowledge of DSM V diagnostic criteria for mental health.
- Able to complete mental health assessments, coordinate with Psychiatry Consult service and community resources to facilitate psychiatric transfers or establish safe discharge plans.
- Assess when discharge planning process is not progressing appropriately and a complex care meeting may be needed, reaching out to CM/MSW Leadership.
- Develop creative interventions, collaborate with the multidisciplinary team (i.e. psych, child life, nursing, PT, etc.) to address behaviors when limited to no placement options are available.
- Conduct brief solution focused/strategic clinical interventions utilizing motivation interviewing.
- Complete legal paperwork to purse involuntary psychiatric hospitalizations and probate court guardianship hearings. Collaborate with hospital attorney and testify when required.
- Specialized knowledge of chronic illness and the impact on patient mental health.
- Knowledge of community service organizations (i.e. CMH, DHHS, shelters, transportation, etc.) and the types of assistance they provide.
- Work by consult (i.e., physician, RN, patient, family, etc.).
- Participates in multidisciplinary rounds and provides necessary report to advance patient care.
- Collaborates with other members of the patient care team to understand each situation from different perspectives and recommends or provides immediate treatment and solution focused interventions.
- Identifies needs, develops plan of care, and makes referrals to community agencies and other healthcare specialists and plans for patient discharge to ensure the appropriate follow-up treatment and support is available and provided to support a safe discharge.
- Thoroughly documents each case and enters appropriate information in patient’s electronic medical record in an effective and timely manner.
- Participates in the development of departmental policies, procedures, and protocols.
- Identifies and provides for learning needs of patients, families, and health care co-workers.
- Assumes responsibility for professional development. Participates in required in services, staff meetings, and completes all required competencies.

I. Major Responsibilities:
1. Provides clear, timely communication to the RN regarding observations and changes seen in patients. Examples, but not limited to changes in skin condition, vital signs, and/or mental status.
2. Provides constant observation of high-risk patients as assigned by the Resource Nurse or designee.
3. Participates in the development and maintenance of a safe environment. Works to utilize interventions to de-escalate patients and if unsuccessful participates in restraints in accordance with training and education as directed.
4. Assists patient with daily living activities such as personal hygiene, ambulating, meals and nourishment.
5. Assists in moving, lifting, positioning, and transporting patients by utilizing proper safety techniques and body mechanics in all work-related activities.
6. Maintains patient safety by performing patient safety checks, utilizing fall prevention alternative devices/strategies as directed, and following the Restraint Policy standards when caring for a restrained patient.
7. Takes and records vital signs (temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure and pulse oxymetry). Measures and records patients’ height and weight.

Assists RN/Licensed Independent Practitioner with treatments and procedures by preparing patient; obtaining and setting up equipment and supplies, such as intravenous and hemodynamic lines, and utilize sterile technique when indicated. Help in positioning the patient and providing the patient with emotional support. Clean up equipment and supplies following the treatment and/or procedure.
13. Observes, measures, records oral food and fluid intake. Sets up full strength tube feeding solutions and refills tube feeding bags as directed. Empties and records output, as approved, from a variety of sources, e.g., Foley catheter, ostomy appliances and drainage systems. Performs ostomy care on established ostomate patients as directed.
14. Answers telephone using appropriate telephone etiquette. Takes and relays messages. Utilizes intra-department communication systems, such as pagers and intercom.
15. Replenishes patient and unit supplies and equipment.
16. Keeps current with hospital and unit changes by reading communication boards and/or books, bulletin boards, posted notices and reads and responds to UMMHC e mails on a regular basis.
The PCT III must fit into one of these specialties:
Unit Secretary
Functions as unit secretary assisting with patient admissions, transfers, and discharge procedures at least 5 shifts (40 hours) every 6 months. Has administrative responsibilities including, but not limited to, maintaining logs, organizing patient care charts for admission/discharge/transfer and maintenance of medical records. Enters data or retrieves medical information from the electronic medical record systems.
Remote Video Monitoring
Continuously observes multiple patients utilizing the remote video monitoring system.

Assists RN/Licensed Independent Practitioner with treatments and procedures by preparing patient; obtaining and setting up equipment and supplies, such as intravenous and hemodynamic lines, and utilize sterile technique when indicated. Help in positioning the patient and providing the patient with emotional support. Clean up equipment and supplies following the treatment and/or procedure.
13. Observes, measures, records oral food and fluid intake. Sets up full strength tube feeding solutions and refills tube feeding bags as directed. Empties and records output, as approved, from a variety of sources, e.g., Foley catheter, ostomy appliances and drainage systems. Performs ostomy care on established ostomate patients as directed.
14. Answers telephone using appropriate telephone etiquette. Takes and relays messages. Utilizes intra-department communication systems, such as pagers and intercom.

Functions as unit secretary assisting with patient admissions, transfers, and discharge procedures at least 5 shifts (40 hours) every 6 months. Enters data or retrieves medical information from the electronic medical record systems.

Position Purpose:
The MRI Technologist is responsible for reviewing the Physician Order and reason for exam, preparing the patient, positioning, and performing MRI imaging of patients. Position Purpose:
The MRI Technologist is responsible for reviewing the Physician Order and reason for exam, preparing the patient, positioning, and performing MRI imaging of patients. The MRI Technologist demonstrates an advanced functional knowledge of MRI/MRA and related clinical indicators for exams to be performed. The MRI Technologists may adjust scanning protocols based on the anatomy/physiology presented during the scan. The MRI Technologist works closely with MRI leadership and the Radiologist to produce the most diagnostic images possible in accordance with the department protocols. Administers contrast media required per specific diagnostic protocols. The MRI Technologist may also assist the physician/APP with the performance of MRI-guided invasive procedures. Performs a variety of technical procedures requiring independent judgment, with integrity and initiative and be able to work with minimum supervision.
Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited MRI Technologist program preferred
Advanced certification in MRI by ARRT or ARMRIT; OR MRI Registry-eligible with certification within one year of hire
Maintain Continuing Education credits (24 CEU in two period) and other requirements to maintain ARRT certification.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
One year MRI experience preferred
Must have good working knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy
Must be proficient in venipuncture
Must know methods to set up and operate MRI equipment
Must be very conscientious and detail-oriented person with excellent communication skills and demonstrate excellent customer service skills to deal effectively with patients, and various levels of hospital personnel, outside customers, and community groups

Position Purpose:
The Occupational Therapist will independently assume responsibility and accountability for the evaluation, assessment, and creation of a plan of care for patients assigned to their care. The occupational therapist is responsible for and will collaborate with occupational therapist assistants with whom they delegate patient care.
What the Occupational Therapist ( OT ) Will Do:
Independently evaluate the functional abilities/disabilities of the client including the ability to perform activities of daily living, mobility, range of motion, strength, coordination, or other functional limitations. This individual will establish a functional baseline and plan of care to be used to demonstrate progress through therapeutic intervention.
Accountable for the application of a written treatment plan and administers treatment for each patient according to the stated goals.
Re-evaluates patient's status and effects of treatment when warranted. Reviews goals with patient and family as appropriate during plan of care.
Colleagues will help to train patients and their family in the use of medical equipment and make recommendations for appropriate equipment as necessary.
Minimum Qualifications:
Must be a graduate of a Master's or previously equivalent educational program accredited by the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA).
Required: Bachelor’s Degree (B.S.) in Occupational Therapy.
State of Michigan Occupational Therapist License or eligible to obtain licensure prior to hire.
American Heart Association BLS or equivalent
