Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
• Ensures proper patient identification and maintains patient safety, privacy, confidentiality and follows guidelines under HIPAA.
• Obtains and records vital signs, pain screens, weights and heights accurately into Electronic Medical Records (EMR).Reports changes and/or abnormalities in vital signs; findings that are outside of defined parameters; and changes in patient’s conditions to the nursing/medical staff in a timely manner.
• Obtains specimens (urine, stool, sputum, etc.) and ensures accurate labeling in presence of patient.Instructs patients/family members in collecting specimens.
• Performs phlebotomy and EKG as applicable and is competent in the two patient identifier practice.
• May precept with specific training.
• Assists with disease center specific procedural needs as applicable.
• Transports patients, medical records, specimens, blood components, equipment and supplies in accordance with Institute policy.
• Ensures that all patients on schedule are accounted for and communicate with providers/patients and colleagues as to approximate wait times.
• May be required to assist with research specific patient data entry as required.
• Assures that all clinical areas have an adequate stock of medical supplies, equipment, and forms.
• Assist with medical record preparation.
• Properly cleans and maintains equipment and patient care environment.
• Maintains a working knowledge of current computer systems used in clinical areas.
• Understands and utilizes the telephone/pager systems, including text paging staff, call system and emergency response system.
• Provides proactive instruction and time expectations to patient and family.
• Communicates patient and family status difficulties and concerns to appropriate staff.
• Attends mandatory training and education sessions, completes mandatory annual competency assessments and follows Institute policies.
• Accepts additional responsibilities based on the changing needs of patients, families, staff and unit.

Minimum Job Qualifications:
• High School Diploma or GED required; college coursework preferred.
• Clinical Qualification:
o 2 years of equivalent experience in a medical setting.
• Developing technical expertise, applies Institute policies and procedures to resolve a variety of issues.Works on problems of moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of a variety of factors.
• Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action.Builds productive internal/external working relationships.
o In some cases, Nurse Students in an accredited Bachelor’s program with at least 2 completed clinical rotations may be considered.
• Applies Institute policies and procedures to resolve routine issues.Works on problems of limited scope.Builds stable working relationships internally.
License/Certification/Registration Required:
• Phlebotomy certification may be preferred based on location (Yawkey 2, Satellites).
• BLS Certification required within 60 days of hire.

- Practices as a pharmacy technician in accordance with all federal, state, DFCI and Joint Commission policies, regulations and standards
- Fills medication orders according to policy, while gaining proficiency with advanced preparations
- Ensures timely delivery of medication orders and/or supplies
- Utilizes multiple systems such as EHR (Electronic Health Record, Inventory Management Systems and other systems to complete and document duties. Identify issues and report as necessary
- Maintains the Pharmacy inventory: sorting, stocking, rotation of stock and expiration date checking
- Performs and documents quality control steps as required for safety and regulatory requirements
- Performs cleaning of sterile and non-sterile areas of the pharmacy as assigned.
- Trains other employees as assigned
- Communicates and escalates issues or problems
- May be assigned to cross-cover other locations or areas (e.g. materials management, outpatient, infusion, etc.)
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Performs sterile and non-sterile compounding of predominately hazardous drugs in compliance with USP <795>, USP <797>, USP <800>, DFCI policies and procedures and, when applicable research protocols
- Ensures compliance with requirements of medications within Research Protocols as assigned
- Maintains and supports Automated Dispensing cabinets including Federal controlled substance retrieving from Return drawer once certified
- Stocking emergency medication as appropriate by site
- Sets up and logs pharmacy batch compound products
- Site-Specific Infusion Technician Duties May Include:
- Provides ADS downtime support. Applicable to Chestnut Hill, Satellites and Pediatric

MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
The position requires a high school diploma or current enrollment in an accredited entry-level degree program for Pharmacy or a related field. The position also requires 2 years of pharmacy technician experience, including at least 1 year of compounding experience. Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Practices in accordance with all federal and state regulations, DFCI policies and Joint Commission standards.
2. Responsible for designated daily operations and/or clinical activities of assigned area.
3. Appropriately dispenses pharmaceuticals, including sterile products, chemotherapy, biologics, controlled substances, and investigational medications.
4. Evaluates all providers’ medication orders for completeness and appropriateness prior to dispensing; consults with providers and nurses to clarify orders as needed.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
With direct supervision, the Registration Specialist:
- Pre-registers new Adult and Pediatric patients by making/receiving patient calls or receiving/sending messages via a Customer Relationship Management tool.
- Collects and accurately documents patient demographic, financial, and other relevant personal information into Epic.
- Verifies patient identification, and confirms and updates patient demographics, patient contacts, insurance information, and PCP.
- Completes the Medicare Secondary Payer questionnaire with all Medicare Beneficiaries.
- Assists patients with sign up for Patient Gateway and obtains signature for Registration consent forms via eCheck-In when possible: General Consent for Treatment, HIPAA Notice for Privacy Practice, Patient Rights and Responsibilities, New Patient Information, and DFCI Virtual Care Consent.
- Manages insurance coverage questions for patients, potentially working with the DFCI Financial Counselor.
- Works eligibility work queues to identify invalid insurances for patients and escalates patients as needed to a Financial Counselor for assistance.
- Complies with all Dana-Farber and HIPAA confidentiality policies.
- Manages eligibility and coordination of benefits claim denials as assigned through daily work queues and documents activities into the hospital information system; may require contacting the payer and/or the patient to obtain the correct insurance information.
- Updates changes to patient insurance and/or demographic information as needed.
- Reviews daily error reports and makes necessary demographic updates in Epic.
- Implements downtime procedures during planned and unplanned system downtime events.
- Documents daily activities in a timely, thorough, and accurate manner in the hospital information system and department templates.
- Promotes and maintains positive working relationships within the department, within the institute, with Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston Children’s Hospital, and with the DFCI regional campus locations.

Under the direction of the RN circulator as dictated by the standards in the Medicare Conditions of Participation for surgical services, assists surgical teams during operative procedures in scrubbing for all physicians in assigned services. Arranges and inventories sterile set up for operations. Assists in preparing moving and positioning patients. Performs sterile scrub procedures and related activities such as preparation and draping the patient and operative area. Passes instruments, sutures, sponges and supplies in accordance with hospital policy and procedure. Participates in the turnover of operating rooms.I. Major Responsibilities:
1. Demonstrates independent functioning and proficiency in the scrub role in all cases in assigned specialty on an ongoing basis. Scrubs for all physicians in assigned service area, providing high quality evidenced-based clinical care with minimal supervision. Promotes teamwork within the team by formally precepting co-workers.
2. Prepares the Operating Room for cases. Selects and checks case cart and preference cards for correct instrument pan(s), packs, sterile supplies and additional items needed for the case.
3. Anticipates need for special equipment and supplies before procedure and requests it from the circulating nurse. Sets up back table and Mayo tray with instruments and supplies according to the procedure and surgeon preference card. Performs surgical count with circulating nurse according to UMMMC surgical count policy.
4. Responds to needs of surgeon and other team members. Assists operative team and anticipates needs of the surgeon and/or assistants during cases including the need for special equipment and supplies. Remains constantly observant of the operative field, recognizing emergency situations and performs emergency procedures as directed. Utilizes a variety of OR equipment such as microscopes, CUSA, steam sterilizers, suction, compressed air/gas, etc.
5. Passes and tracks instruments, sutures, and supplies during procedures. Labels all medication and solutions on sterile field. Monitors sponges, needles and instruments throughout the case. Cares for specimens to prevent loss or damage. Uses caution when handling specimens to ensure proper anatomical identification.

1. Successful completion of an accredited school of surgical technology having obtained the required surgical technologists certification as of the date of hire.
2. All Surgical Technologist Certified employees will have obtained a surgical technologist credential administered by a nationally recognized surgical technologist certifying body accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies and recognized by the American College of Surgeons and the Association of Surgical Technologists.
3. Maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification every two years. Maintains AST membership, required educational units and AST certification.

Under the general direction of the laboratory manager or clinic manager, performs a wide array of laboratory tests and procedures of moderate complexity in a clinical laboratory or dermatology clinic.Major Responsibilities:
- Follows established protocols to perform various procedures and tests, including the most complex for an assigned area. Refers to supervisory or lead staff members for assistance in the performance and interpretation of complex or unusual tests and procedures.
- Establishes requirements/needs of a working laboratory, acquiring and maintaining par levels of dyes, stains, other solutions, and necessary equipment. Organizes and maintains the laboratory and chemical supplies in a manner consistent with chemical hygiene, blood pathogen, and other institutional requirements for proper laboratory function and safety.
- Performs all routine procedures and required quality control; ensures proper and professional accessioning of human tissue specimens, accurate and timely logging of such specimens, and preparation and presentation of same with the technical expertise required for microscopic examination by the surgeon or pathologist.
- Prepares human tissue from surgical and diagnostic sources; performs specialized fixation and microscopic examination to determine if the sections have been properly prepared and stained.
- Cleans, maintains, and calibrates all laboratory equipment involved with surgical procedures to obtain skin specimens; reads and interprets histographic displays (maps) and properly labels specimens.
- Performs routine maintenance on all instrumentation and attends continuing education sessions as required.

Prepares histopathologic slides for microscopic examination utilizing microtomy techniques. Responsible for processing, embedding, sectioning, and routine staining of paraffin blocks at the highest quality in an efficient manner. Performs special stains and immunohistochemistry procedures.

Under the general direction of the Financial Counseling Supervisor/Manager and/or Financial Clearance Director, the Financial Counselor (Certified Application Counselor) provides a key role in providing a health care coverage needs assessment with patients, community applicants, and family members. Determines eligibility for MassHealth, Qualified Health Plans, Children’s Health Insurance, Health Safety net and any other coverage that they may qualify. Provides guidance and assistance to patients, various internal UMass staff, physician offices and third-party vendors regarding financial assistance programs.
II. Major Responsibilities:
1. Interviews, screens and assess applicants and family members in a variety of on campus locations utilizing income and household composition and other criteria in accordance with CMS and other governmental established guidelines for program eligibility.
2. Determines qualification for affordable health insurance coverage, including the application of advance premium tax credits (APTC), premium assistance programs, Medicare Savings Plans and any other program they may be determined eligible.
3. Interacts with patients, the community, and outside agencies in a professional manner in keeping with the Mission and Vision of UMMHC.
4. Facilitates enrollment through the online Health Connector Health Insurance Exchange (HIX) or any other program application by accurate and timely submission of necessary paperwork according to state and federal regulations and policies.
5. Follows up with patients in person or by telephone to obtains appropriate confidential financial and medical information on incomplete applications.to establish eligibility for various financial assistance programs.
6. Acts as the liaison for patients with MassHealth, the Health Connector and the Health Safety Net to assist in the resolution of eligibility discrepancies, applications status updates, and any other issue that may arise in the determination process.
7. Facilitates patient understanding of health access options including but not limited to eligibility rules, coverage types, enrollment periods, products and plans available through MassHealth, the Health Connector, Medicaid Managed Care, and the Health Safety Net program.
8. Responsible for coverage of the Financial Counseling call center to act as a resource for patients and families, members of the community, clinical departments and other Revenue Cycle departments with insurance coverage issues and questions.
9. Provides and documents price estimates request to patients in accordance with federal price transparency regulations.
10. Works within EPIC work queues to identify and reach out to uninsured/underinsured patients/families (inpatient, outpatient, surgical day, psychiatric in patients, psychiatric outpatients, etc.) for the purpose of screening for assistance programs and upgrades to a richer benefit program.
11. Works in conjunction with clinical areas, interpreters, social workers, case managers, social security outreach workers, drug assistance coordinator, enhanced benefit coordinator, care mobile, physician/provider offices and community health centers as needed to ensure access to care and timely discharge planning.
12. Discusses financial obligations with patients prior to elective surgical days or admissions. Communicates all information to provider offices and other Revenue Cycle departments.
