Under the direction of the appropriate licensed clinician, and in keeping with unit specific standards, provides patient care to meet the personal needs and comfort of patients; and assists members of the healthcare team. In order to become a PCT II a caregiver must meet the full competencies outlined by the Nursing Professional Practice.As an integral member of the patient care team, serves both internal and external customers including patients, nurses, physicians and other colleagues who support the delivery of care and services.
I. Major Responsibilities:
1. Provides clear, timely communication to the RN regarding observations and changes seen in patients. Examples, but not limited to changes in skin condition, vital signs, and/or mental status.
2. Provides constant observation of high-risk patients as assigned by the Resource Nurse or designee.
3. Participates in the development and maintenance of a safe environment. Works to utilize interventions to de-escalate patients and if unsuccessful participates in restraints in accordance with training and education as directed.
4. Assists patient with daily living activities such as personal hygiene, ambulating, meals and nourishment.
5. Assists in moving, lifting, positioning and transporting patients by utilizing proper safety techniques and body mechanics in all work-related activities.
6. Maintains patient safety by performing patient safety checks, utilizing fall prevention alternative devices/strategies as directed, and following the Restraint Policy standards when caring for a restrained patient.
7. Takes and records vital signs (temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure and pulse oxymetry). Measures and records patients’ height and weight.
8. Performs EKG’s, performs Point of Care (POC) tests and bladder scanning according to hospital standards. Collects, labels and prepares specimens for transport to lab.
9. Phlebotomy in certain locations.
10. Performs other selected unit specific procedures such as battery changes for telemetry units, checking status of unit equipment, cleaning equipment between patients and proper storage of supplies.
11. Assists RN/Licensed Independent Practitioner with treatments and procedures by preparing patient; obtaining and setting up equipment and supplies, such as intravenous and hemodynamic lines, and utilize sterile technique when indicated. Help in positioning the patient and providing the patient with emotional support. Clean up equipment and supplies following the treatment and/or procedure.
12. Observes, measures, records oral food and fluid intake. Sets up full strength tube feeding solutions and refills tube feeding bags as directed. Empties and records output, as approved, from a variety of sources, e.g., Foley catheter, ostomy appliances and drainage systems. Performs ostomy care on established ostomate patients as directed.
13. Demonstrates sensitivity and responsiveness to patients’ needs by acting as a source of information and approaches all interactions with the intention of building positive rapport and relationships.
14. Provides respectful, culturally and age-appropriate communication with patients, staff, family, visitors and others.
15. Replenishes patient and unit supplies and equipment.
16. Requests assistance from identified resources when more direction is needed.
17. Keeps current with hospital and unit changes by reading communication boards and/or books, bulletin boards, posted notices and reads and responds to UMMHC e mails on a regular basis.
18. Has the ability to precept new Patient Care Technicians.

2. Attends variety of meetings, conferences, seminars as required or directed.
3. Demonstrates use of Quality Improvement in daily operations.

1. Minimum of a high school education or GED.
2. Current Basic Life Support.
Experience/Skills:

1. Demonstrated competency attainment in the Patient Care Technician I level, work a minimum of 800 hours and at least 6 months as a PCT I.
or 6 months of prior inpatient/outpatient direct patient care experience.
2. Ability to read, write and communicate in English in a clear and concise manner.
3. Medical Terminology.
4. Computer skills.
5. Strong interpersonal skills to gather information from individuals, build relationships that support collaborative work within the department and across the organization and provide exceptional service to patients.
6. Must have proven problem-solving abilities for routine situations.
7. Must be able to remain calm when under stress or in emergency situations.
Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.
Department-specific competencies and their measurements will be developed and maintained in the individual departments. The competencies will be maintained and attached to the departmental job description. Responsible managers will review competencies with position incumbents.
III. Physical Demands and Environmental Conditions:
Position requires work indoors in a patient care environment.
Hand dexterity, hearing and vision ability to take direction from a patient or provider, adjust equipment, observe and describe patient observations. Must be able to lift, up to 50 pounds. Work is of heavy demand, standing and walking most of the time with the possibility of pushing heavy equipment and bending frequently.

Under the direct supervision of a pharmacist, performs hazardous and nonhazardous sterile compounding, nonsterile compounding, delivers medications, and is responsible for refilling and loading of medications into automated dispensing machines (ADMs). Performs other medication related tasks such as packaging, preparation of oral and IV medications, record keeping, and all aspects of their distribution. Assists in the transportation and handling of controlled substances and all required documentation as related to their delivery.Maintains 50 % of time performing sterile compounding activities and/or specialized tasks, including addressing MAR messages, code cart management, controlled substance receiving/reconciliation and medication ordering.
Major Responsibilities:
- Prepares intravenous (IV) drugs using aseptic technique in compounding parenteral nutrition, antibiotics, chemotherapy and other IV drugs.
- Maintains required documentation in accordance with regulatory and hospital requirements and maintains respect for patient confidentiality. Generates necessary pharmacy reports.
- Performs all major responsibilities of an Inpatient Pharmacy Technician I.
- Complies with all state and federal standards for compounding medications.
- Prepare sterile parenteral products from a patient order including additive, volume and concentration. Prepares adult, pediatric, neonatal parenteral nutrition.
- Prepare batch preparations of sterile compounded products for high use items.
- Maintain inventory and supplies needed for sterile compounding and order supplies for IV area.
- Maintain standards for certification in aseptic technique.
- Proficient with all pharmacy technology and equipment and proper use of all compounding systems.
- Document compounded products using appropriate technology (Simplify, Epic, IMS, etc).
- Support training new technicians in sterile compounding and other specialized tasks.
- Monthly air and surface sampling, as appropriate.
- Demonstrates appropriate behavior in ISO classified environments (handwashing, garbing, aseptic technique).
- Temperature/humidity monitoring (room air, refrigerators, freezers, incubators) and associated documentation.
- Pressure monitoring and documentation.
- Proper use and maintenance of Primary Engineering Controls.
- Perform inspections of area and removes outdated medications and supplies.
- Assists with yearly inventory in assigned areas.

- Delivers expert, evidence-based nursing care to patients and families: Implements nursing process: Assessment, Nursing Diagnosis, Planning, Implementation, Evaluation. Assesses patient and family needs. Promotes health care outcomes in concert with currently accepted clinical practice guidelines. Analyzes assessment data to develop and support clinically accurate diagnoses. Collaborates proactively with all interdisciplinary team members with a patient centered focus to facilitate and maximize patient healthcare outcomes. Prepare and administers chemotherapy/biotherapy and supportive therapy in accordance with ASCO/ONS Guidelines. Recognizes and responds to emergency situations appropriately. Maintains BLS certification. Provides telephone triage according to policies and documents telephone interactions. Performs the following technical skills; Intravenous therapy including peripheral and central venous vascular access devices, including obtaining IV access, Safe handling practices for hazardous, cytotoxic and biological agents, Chemotherapy administration skills, including vesicant and non-vesicant medications. Complies with accepted standards of professional nursing practice, as well as with all licensure/registration requirements applicable to the nursing role. Supports the DFCI Nursing Department Professional Practice Model and Quality Plan. Accurately records charges for all services rendered on the day service. Collaborates with Clinic Assistant to assure accurate inventory of all supplies. Serves as a resource to medical personnel in other health facilities, providing telephone consultation to engender optimal Oncology practices and knowledge among health care professionals caring for cancer patients.
- Establishes rapport with patients and families from a variety of cultural, ethnic and religious backgrounds: Interacts with patients and families in a caring and compassionate manner respecting the need for privacy and confidentiality. Develops approaches to problem solving which meet the individual needs of the patients and families. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-specific care and support to the populations served. Promotes a culture of inclusion. - Manages the environment of patient care: Monitors the environment of care with attention to patient safety and assures compliance with regulatory agency standards. MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
The position requires licensure as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts or New Hampshire, as appropriate. - The Senior RA is responsible for the following primary functions autonomously with supervisory input as needed
- Portfolio Management (post-award): Responsible for the financial management of sponsored and institutional funds portfolio management. Prepare financial and narrative reports for sponsors while managing and adhering to specified deadlines, provide projection and project summary reports to investigators on a regular basis, ensure spending adheres to budget and sponsor and Institute guidelines, invoice and monitor receivables for clinical trial enrollment when appropriate, establish billing agreements as appropriate, track milestones and receivables for industry agreements.
- Procurement:Approve and/or initiate purchase requests for investigators and laboratory members via Purchase Orders and PCard. Verify funds are available, expenses are allowable and correctly allocated in a timely manner. Review and approve bills for core and center services.
- Human Resources:Onboarding - conduct financial analysis to determine availability of funding, assist in the development of job descriptions, post positions, approve salary offers, process visa applications and payments as appropriate. Ongoing - process merit, equity and promotions requests. Manage salary allocations in adherence to funding guidelines and availability. Offboarding - manage termination process checklist, process termination paperwork.
- Compliance: Partners with faculty and researchers to ensure adherence to internal and external policies. This includes consulting with faculty/OGC/Innovations on MTA, DUA and consulting agreement processes. Also includes advising faculty and researchers and/or referring them to appropriate resources for other compliance issues such as financial conflict of interest and foreign influence. Educate new researchers and manage the federal time and effort process for applicable researchers. Continuous learning and educating of researchers on NIH Grants Policy Statement and DFCI Policies. Review Time and Effort prior to routing to researchers for certification.
- Cores, Centers and Chargebacks: Assist in pricing development and annual review of pricing, process monthly billing for internal and external customers, manage funds to ensure revenue meets expenditures.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Primary administrator of Harvard Medical School (HMS) faculty and nonfaculty appointments
- Processes all Harvard Medical School (HMS) first appointment, reappointment, and promotion materials within the department of Medical Oncology. Includes, but not limited to: Research Fellow, Instructors, Assistant Professors, Associate Professors, Professors, Lecturers, etc.
- Coordinates faculty search (recruitment) processes, develops search request with division Chief or administrator, obtains department, Office of Faculty Development, Professionalism, and Inclusion (OFPDI) and BWH Department of Medicine (DOM) approval for searches and advertisements, places ad with advertising agency. Maintains records of the search, advertisement posting dates and invoices. Works with search coordinator to create report of the search. Enters the search into the HMS Search Portal.
- Trains new division administrators on appointment and search processes and serves as a resource on the academic process. Serves as a resource for request for information on providers in the BWH credentialing process and HMS appointment or promotion process. Tracks process in detail (reasons and dates) on departmental spreadsheet.
- Manages the annual reappointment processes for annual (Instructors and fellows) and term (Assistant and Associate Professor) faculty. Collects data, prepares reports, coordinates development of CVs and letters of support (term faculty).
- Communicates on a regular and monthly basis with Division Chiefs and Administrators on division faculty member promotion progress.
- Coordinates and educates faculty members on the promotion process. Tracks individual progress and communicates regularly with faculty member.
- Works closely with OFPDI and Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS) to maintain accurate faculty and nonfaculty appointment and position records. Notifies OFPDI, HMS and BWH of all terminations.
- Serves as a liaison with the BWH and DFCI medical staffing offices; initiates clinical onboarding at BWH and follows the BWH credentialing process through to completion. Provides updates to Division Administrators and works through problems with documents or submissions. Communicates directly with new faculty as needed.
- Prepares and updates CVs, primarily for fellows and Instructors, according to HMS-DOM format or enters information into EasyCV. Reviews and edits CVs for Assistant and Associate Professors prior to turning them over to the CV Writer Team.
- Keeps updated files for each faculty member and fellow appointed in the Department. Also maintains records of faculty from other departments (e.g., Cancer Biology and Data Sciences) appointed through Medical Oncology
- Provides faculty lists and reports as requested by DFCI’ leaderships and stakeholders.
- Provides reports and context for the promotion process to department leadership.
- Works with the MO Editorial Team to review and edit weekly newsletters, annual reports, and monthly faculty meetings.
- Educates and trains new faculty users on EasyCV application for entry and maintenance of Harvard-formatted CVs. Will develop ease of use with new HMS CV Generator application.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Excellent written and oral communication skills. Must possess strong writing and presentation skills.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Primary administrator of Harvard Medical School (HMS) faculty and nonfaculty appointments
- Processes all Harvard Medical School (HMS) first appointment, reappointment, and promotion materials within the department of Medical Oncology. Includes, but not limited to: Research Fellow, Instructors, Assistant Professors, Associate Professors, Professors, Lecturers, etc.
- Coordinates faculty search (recruitment) processes, develops search request with division Chief or administrator, obtains department, Office of Faculty Development, Professionalism, and Inclusion (OFPDI) and BWH Department of Medicine (DOM) approval for searches and advertisements, places ad with advertising agency. Maintains records of the search, advertisement posting dates and invoices. Works with search coordinator to create report of the search. Enters the search into the HMS Search Portal.
- Trains new division administrators on appointment and search processes and serves as a resource on the academic process. Serves as a resource for request for information on providers in the BWH credentialing process and HMS appointment or promotion process. Tracks process in detail (reasons and dates) on departmental spreadsheet.
- Manages the annual reappointment processes for annual (Instructors and fellows) and term (Assistant and Associate Professor) faculty. Collects data, prepares reports, coordinates development of CVs and letters of support (term faculty).
- Communicates on a regular and monthly basis with Division Chiefs and Administrators on division faculty member promotion progress.
- Coordinates and educates faculty members on the promotion process. Tracks individual progress and communicates regularly with faculty member.
- Works closely with OFPDI and Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS) to maintain accurate faculty and nonfaculty appointment and position records. Notifies OFPDI, HMS and BWH of all terminations.
- Serves as a liaison with the BWH and DFCI medical staffing offices; initiates clinical onboarding at BWH and follows the BWH credentialing process through to completion. Provides updates to Division Administrators and works through problems with documents or submissions. Communicates directly with new faculty as needed.
- Prepares and updates CVs, primarily for fellows and Instructors, according to HMS-DOM format or enters information into EasyCV. Reviews and edits CVs for Assistant and Associate Professors prior to turning them over to the CV Writer Team.
- Keeps updated files for each faculty member and fellow appointed in the Department. Also maintains records of faculty from other departments (e.g., Cancer Biology and Data Sciences) appointed through Medical Oncology
- Provides faculty lists and reports as requested by DFCI’ leaderships and stakeholders.
- Provides reports and context for the promotion process to department leadership.
- Works with the MO Editorial Team to review and edit weekly newsletters, annual reports, and monthly faculty meetings.
- Educates and trains new faculty users on EasyCV application for entry and maintenance of Harvard-formatted CVs. Will develop ease of use with new HMS CV Generator application.

Under the direction of the appropriate licensed clinician, and in keeping with unit specific standards, provides patient care to meet the personal needs and comfort of patients; and assists members of the healthcare team. In order to become a PCT II a caregiver must meet the full competencies outlined by the Nursing Professional Practice.As an integral member of the patient care team, serves both internal and external customers including patients, nurses, physicians and other colleagues who support the delivery of care and services.
I. Major Responsibilities:
1. Provides clear, timely communication to the RN regarding observations and changes seen in patients. Examples, but not limited to changes in skin condition, vital signs, and/or mental status.
2. Provides constant observation of high-risk patients as assigned by the Resource Nurse or designee.
3. Participates in the development and maintenance of a safe environment. Works to utilize interventions to de-escalate patients and if unsuccessful participates in restraints in accordance with training and education as directed.
4. Assists patient with daily living activities such as personal hygiene, ambulating, meals and nourishment.
5. Assists in moving, lifting, positioning and transporting patients by utilizing proper safety techniques and body mechanics in all work-related activities.
6. Maintains patient safety by performing patient safety checks, utilizing fall prevention alternative devices/strategies as directed, and following the Restraint Policy standards when caring for a restrained patient.
7. Takes and records vital signs (temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure and pulse oxymetry). Measures and records patients’ height and weight.
8. Performs EKG’s, performs Point of Care (POC) tests and bladder scanning according to hospital standards. Collects, labels and prepares specimens for transport to lab.
9. Phlebotomy in certain locations.
10. Performs other selected unit specific procedures such as battery changes for telemetry units, checking status of unit equipment, cleaning equipment between patients and proper storage of supplies.
11. Assists RN/Licensed Independent Practitioner with treatments and procedures by preparing patient; obtaining and setting up equipment and supplies, such as intravenous and hemodynamic lines, and utilize sterile technique when indicated. Help in positioning the patient and providing the patient with emotional support. Clean up equipment and supplies following the treatment and/or procedure.
12. Observes, measures, records oral food and fluid intake. Sets up full strength tube feeding solutions and refills tube feeding bags as directed. Empties and records output, as approved, from a variety of sources, e.g., Foley catheter, ostomy appliances and drainage systems. Performs ostomy care on established ostomate patients as directed.
13. Demonstrates sensitivity and responsiveness to patients’ needs by acting as a source of information and approaches all interactions with the intention of building positive rapport and relationships.
14. Provides respectful, culturally and age-appropriate communication with patients, staff, family, visitors and others.
15. Replenishes patient and unit supplies and equipment.
16. Requests assistance from identified resources when more direction is needed.
17. Keeps current with hospital and unit changes by reading communication boards and/or books, bulletin boards, posted notices and reads and responds to UMMHC e mails on a regular basis.

3. Participates in the development and maintenance of a safe environment. Works to utilize interventions to de-escalate patients and if unsuccessful participates in restraints in accordance with training and education as directed.
4. Assists patient with daily living activities such as personal hygiene, ambulating, meals and nourishment.
5. Assists in moving, lifting, positioning, and transporting patients by utilizing proper safety techniques and body mechanics in all work-related activities.
6. Maintains patient safety by performing patient safety checks, utilizing fall prevention alternative devices/strategies as directed, and following the Restraint Policy standards when caring for a restrained patient.
7. Takes and records vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure and pulse oxymetry). Measures and records patients’ weights and heights.
8. Performs EKG’s, Point of Care (POC) tests and bladder scanning. Collects, labels and prepares specimens for transport to lab.
9. Performs other selected unit specific procedures, such as battery changes for telemetry units, checking status of unit equipment, cleaning equipment between patients and proper storage of supplies.
10. Assists RN/Licensed Independent Practitioner with treatments and procedures by preparing patient, obtaining equipment and supplies, helping to position patient, providing the patient with emotional support, and cleaning up equipment and supplies following the treatment and/or procedure.
11. Observes, measures, records oral food and fluid intake. Refills tube feeding bags as directed. Empties and records output, as approved, from a variety of sources, e.g., foley catheter, ostomy appliances and drainage systems. Performs ostomy care on established ostomate patients as directed.
12. Demonstrates sensitivity and responsiveness to patients’ needs by acting as a source of information and approaches all interactions with the intention of building positive rapport and relationships.
13. Provides respectful, culturally and age-appropriate communication with patients, staff, family, visitors and others.
14. Replenishes patient and unit supplies and equipment as needed.
15. Requests assistance from identified resources when more direction is needed.
16. Keeps current with hospital and unit changes by reading communication boards and/or books, bulletin boards, posted notices and reads and responds to UMMHC e mails on a regular basis.

Administers various forms of respiratory modalities in accordance with the policies and procedures of the Respiratory Care Department.Major Responsibilities:
1. Monitors and supports patients on mechanical ventilation. Provides respiratory support and cardiopulmonary resuscitation as required.
2. Assists physician/anesthesia during intubations. Assists physicians performing both diagnostic and therapeutic bronchoscopies and percutaneous dilatational tracheotomies at the bedside under bronchoscopic guidance.
3. Establishes treatment plans and modifies therapy according to department protocols for bronchodilator therapy and chest physical therapy techniques.
4. Obtains arterial blood gasses. Performs radial and brachial artery blood draws to obtain blood samples for gas analysis.
5. Sets up and monitors equipment for ventilatory support. May set up and monitor pulse oximetry equipment for continuous measurement of oxygen saturation. Sets up and monitors mechanical ventilators during surgical procedures as required. May set up and monitor equipment for administering oxygen including various types of cannulas and masks.
6. Coordinates and maintains difficult airway carts, identifies and assesses potential high-risk airway patients, participates on code airway team.
7. May perform both resting and trending pulse oximetry.
8. Provides patient education and support on various respiratory topics, such as smoking cessation techniques, asthma and COPD management, and the use and administration of respiratory medications and modalities.
9. Participates in the transport of patients requiring respiratory support.
10. Manages and monitors MRI ventilator during MRI scans
11. Administers aerosolized medications using small volume nebulizers and/or metered dose inhalers.
12. Performs sputum inductions
13. Administers inhaled nitric oxide and other inhaled pulmonary vasodilator therapies.
14. Provides tracheostomy care, management and assistance with discharge planning. Also includes daily assessment, PMV (speaking valve) evaluation, assessment, and education. Reinsertion of stable dislodge tracheostomies.
15. Assists with the placement of endotracheal or tracheostomy tubes and performs suctioning techniques via endotracheal/tracheostomy tubes to remove secretions from the upper airways.
16. Coordinates daily spontaneous breathing trials, records weaning data, communicates with the Provider and RN, performs extubations when applicable per Provider order
17. Assesses patient response to therapy and recommends modifications to therapy as appropriate.
18. Communicates the respiratory status of patients to physicians and other healthcare professionals. Participates in the development of a plan of care for patients requiring respiratory support.
19. Documents patient status, equipment settings, procedures performed and any other pertinent information regarding patient care in the patient medical record.
20. Enters charges and RVU’s for services provided into the electronic medical record.
21. Maintains inventory of equipment and supplies, replacing used items as needed.
22. Cleans and disinfects respiratory equipment in accordance with infection control standards.
23. May perform bedside spirometry.

1. Current registration by the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) – Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential. . All employees are expected to comply with the NBRC’s Continuing Competency program and are required to provide evidence that they are continuing to meet current standards of practice and have successfully renewed their national credentials issued by the NBRC.
2. Minimum of an Associate’s degree or equivalent in Respiratory Care.

4. Must maintain a current MA license

IV. Physical Demands and Environmental Conditions:

SUMMARY
Performs various clinical laboratory tests in order to obtain data for use in diagnosis and treatment of disease. Analyzes and interprets test results, and ensures accuracy of same. Repeats tests and necessary, especially those yielding abnormal or atypical results, and notifies appropriate personnel of such results. Provides quality patient care considering age specific, developmental, and cultural needs of the patient. Demonstrates unit/area designated competencies.

Under general supervision, performs qualitative and quantitative laboratory tests on patient specimens, according to established standards and practices. REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE

What you will do:
- Records and/or enters laboratory computer results of tests performed and advises supervisor spurious, unusual or highly abnormal results before release of results for reporting.
- Reports results of tests ordered stat and highly abnormal or unexpected results in a timely manner and according to established policies and procedures.
- Compares test results with previous patient test results when indicated, calling attention of supervisor or pathologist to unusual fluctuations.
- Performs required quality control and equipment maintenance and calibrates and operates laboratory equipment used in performance of the tests pertinent to the section) to which assigned.
- Notifies appropriate personnel of problems such as unacceptable specimens, equipment malfunctions, and quality control aberrations, in accordance with department policy on procedure.
- Prepares standards, reagents, and other materials used in testing.
- Contacts nursing unit or client office personnel with regard to results and for clarification of requests and other routine problems which may arise.
