Position Title
Position Summary / Career Interest:
Come join one of the largest Cardiac Device Programs in the country. In addition to managing device clinic and remote monitoring for 6,000+ patients, we have established innovative collaboratives with Radiation Oncology, MRI, Proton Therapy, and CV imaging to provide the excellent care to our device patients. We host specialized clinics for advanced cardiac devices including CRT, left bundle branch pacing, and cardiac contractility modulation. We are a rapidly growing team with ambitious goals; we analyze remote transmissions within 24 hours. This is a wonderful opportunity for a new or experienced cardiac device nurse. If you are interested, but new to device, our robust orientation provides extensive didactic and hands on training.Hours: 4 10's during the M-F workweek, 7-5:30
The Cardiac Device RN is a licensed registered professional nurse who is a clinical expert in cardiac device management and provides ethical, evidence-based, safe, and compassionate nursing care. The Cardiac Device RN focuses on patient safety and the quality of nursing care by identifying and clarifying patient needs related to cardiac device, conducting education, promoting patient advocacy, coordinating healthcare services, and evaluating patient outcomes. The Cardiac Device RN will assist with coordination of care amongst disciplines and departments including but not limited to General Cardiology, EP Cardiology, Advanced Heart Failure, Primary Care, Acute Inpatient Care, PeriOp, Oncology. The Cardiac Device RN will be responsible for providing comprehensive patient care by completing thorough, competent interrogations and reprogramming of implanted cardiac devices in the inpatient and outpatient settings. The Cardiac Device RN will assist in coordination of care and device optimization throughout imaging studies. The Cardiac Device RN is responsible for triaging remote transmissions and programming recommendations for patients undergoing therapies that may impact the device.Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions
- Coordinate care by triaging orders, device data and the clinical scenario to provide recommendations for programming of device patients undergoing proton therapy, radiation oncology, spine center, peri, post operative and/or MRI.
- Coordinate care for hospitalized device patients by performing in-person device evaluation, communicating to vendor representatives, or utilizing remote transmission technology.
- Telephonic assessment and guidance for cardiac device patients to provide seamless coordination of care utilizing device data to optimize patient health.
- Provides comprehensive patient care by accurately identifying malfunctions, alerts, and sub-optimal device operations along with clinical scenario and following up appropriately with the patient and provider teams.
- Manage patients enrolled in remote monitoring services. Coordinate plan of care by triaging alerts and communicating with provider’s aligned nursing teams.
- Creates and maintains a supportive work environment for the entire team. Creates and maintains an atmosphere of respect and courtesy toward patients, staff and colleagues.
- Maintains clinical relevance, demonstrating self-development by keeping current on a variety of clinical and health care topics
- Collaborates in patient end of life scenarios with device management and programming.
- Respond to ED for coordination of care, triaging and urgent device interrogation and programming.
- Maintains competency with new device software and device technologies across various vendors
- Expert in deciphering complex cardiac device data elements
- Participates in process improvement, quality, and safety initiatives within the department.
- Coordinate and develop plan of care for patients who have a device with a clinical field advisory. Follow up with all patients who have a cardiac device product alert.
- Provide care navigation and triage patient lists when device advisories are issued.
- Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.

Required Education and Experience
- High School Graduate
- Associates Degree and 5 years of cardiac device experience may be substituted for Bachelor's - ONLY for tenured UKHS employees moving into the position
- Bachelor Degree Nursing Anyone hired into or moved into the position after 10/1/2024
Required Licensure and Certification
- Licensed Registered Nurse (LRN) - Multi-State - State Board of Nursing - in state in which you live OR
- Licensed Registered Nurse (LRN) - Single State - State Board of Nursing - active with multistate in progress with proof of application.
- Must have current active multi-state Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing in state in which you live OR active single state RN license in good standing in the state you will be working, with proof of application of a multi-state RN license in the state in which you live. Staff hired prior to 2/1/2024 are required to obtain a multi-state RN license from the state in which they live at the time of their next RN license renewal by 4/30/2026.
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS or BCLS) - American Heart Association (AHA) upon Hire
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - American Heart Association (AHA) upon Hire
- Successful completion of a cardiac device rhythm management course within within 180 Days
Preferred Licensure and Certification
- Cardiac Device Remote Monitoring Specialist (CDRMS) - International Board of Heart Rhythm Examiners (IBHRE)
- Cardiac Vascular Nursing Certification (CV-BC) - American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC)

The Director, Perioperative & Procedural Services Clinical Operations, provides strong leadership and direction on a daily basis to staff within the Perioperative & Procedural Services Departments to promote vision of providing world class surgical and procedural services. On a daily basis the Director is responsible for Mission and Values implementation, operational leadership and direction of assigned departments. Is responsible for assigned services for performance planning and improvement; clinical quality; fiscal and service results; and patient, customer and employee satisfaction. The Director is responsible for promoting timely, high quality and efficient surgical and procedural care. Provides leadership related to quality improvement and performance improvement efforts within areas of responsibility and promotes positive, collegial relationships among all staff within Perioperative & Procedural Services.Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions- Directs clinical operations and integrates services within Perioperative & Procedural Services departments and with other departments. • Directs and manages clinical oversight of all divisional depts: preop assessment clinics, operating rooms, procedural rooms, pre/post units and sterile processing departments assigned to Perioperative & Procedural Services at the Main Campus of TUKHS. Creates effective work plans, which include, identifying the correct resources, staffing, processes and space needed by the work unit. Directs improvement work as process owner while guiding leaders and teams towards efficiency of work unit operations and use of resources. Sets the work unit's priorities in alignment with TUKHS priorities. Delegates authority and meets deadlines.
- Provides clinical direction and leadership to the Perioperative & Procedural Services departments. • Identifies needs of Perioperative & Procedural Services leaders and staff as well as customers (to include Perioperative & Procedural Services Business Operations, Surgical and Anesthesia Departments, etc.) Ensures that Perioperative & Procedural clinical priorities are aligned with the needs and priorities of Perioperative & Procedural Business Operations and other customers. Sets goals for each Perioperative & Procedural department in collaboration with Director Perioperative & Procedural Services Business Operations, Sr Director Perioperative and Procedural Services and Vice President Perioperative and Procedural Services.
- Ensures adequate resources are available to provide high quality care. • Oversees the development and management of Perioperative & Procedural Services operating budget and annual capital budget in collaboration with Director Perioperative & Procedural Services Business Operations. Reviews needs for staffing, capital, capacity and support. Assesses staffing plans and surgical case volume projections with demand projections in collaboration with Director Perioperative & Procedural Services Business Operations.
- Oversees as Process Owner Lean improvement activities in Perioperative & Procedural Services Value Streams. Collaborates with Vice President Perioperative and Procedural Services, Sr Director Perioperative and Procedural Services, Director Perioperative & Procedural Services Business Operations, Surgical and Anesthesia Departments, and others to identify ongoing improvement initiatives and Kaizen Workshop targets and Action Bulletins while supporting the unit-based process owners.
- Manages programs to mitigate risk for employee health, patient safety and clinical operations.
- Drives Service Excellence: • Champions quality / performance improvement efforts within Perioperative & Procedural Services Clinical Operations • Sets priorities and oversees progress for department-specific PI initiatives based on current performance, regulatory requirements, and institutional and national initiatives. • Ensures compliance with all federal, state and local regulatory standards and requirements including Joint Commission, Dept of Health, FDA, HIPAA, OSHA, and others. • Assists the Perioperative & Procedural clinical leadership to assess programs, establish goals and objectives for TUKHS and to prioritize key initiatives and the required resources to implement them efficiently and effectively.
- Promotes positive, collaborative relationships between Perioperative & Procedural Services Clinical Operations and Perioperative & Procedural Business Operations • Sets example of constructive, professional and positive relationships at all times. • Promotes proactive issue identification and resolution between Perioperative & Procedural Clinical Services and primary customers • Ensures active and productive participation at forums for issue identification and resolution.

7am - 5:30pmThe University of Kansas Health System Phlebotomist is a position within the clinical laboratory that is responsible for interpreting orders for lab work from providers within The University of Kansas Health System which are entered in the Hospital Information System and orders from outside providers that are presented as a manual order. The Phlebotomist must be able to interpret these orders and accurately identify the correct tube type for each test.
The Phlebotomist follows regulatory, accreditation, safety and hospital standards, policies and procedures, and performs positive patient identification for each patient prior to blood draw and confirming patient identification after labeling the tubes. In the ambulatory setting, the Phlebotomist presents labeled tubes to the patient to confirm proper labeling. In the in-patient setting, the Phlebotomist matches the labeled tubes with the patient's wristband.
The Phlebotomist understands the importance of all pre-analytical variables such as positive patient identification, correct tube types, specimen conditions and integrity and how they affect laboratory results, and participates in quality assurance and quality improvement activities. The Phlebotomist releases orders out of the Hospital Information System (HIS) and receives specimens in the Laboratory Information System (LIS); and processes specimens to include centrifugation, aliquoting urine and pouring off plasma or serum if necessary for testing.
The Phlebotomist is considered the "face" of the clinical laboratory and is expected to represent the laboratory and themselves in a professional, respectful and courteous manner at all times. The Phlebotomist follows AIDET guidelines for customer service and patient satisfaction.
Additionally, the Phlebotomist working in the ambulatory setting must prepare specimens for transport by scanning the bar-coded sample onto a LIS packing list. The Phlebotomist must be able to troubleshoot difficult orders and assist with troubleshooting missing specimens when indicated. This position performs some data entry functions, manages requisitions and answers telephones to assist Laboratory customers. The Phlebotomist must be patient focused and capable of multi-tasking in a fast-paced environment.Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions
- Performs blood draws by venipuncture according to standard protocol, ensuring patient safety and quality specimen collection.

- Provides assistance to nursing staff when requested.
- Performs specimen processing duties such as aliquoting urine and separating blood samples when required for testing.
- Understands pre-analytical variables that can impact test results: Container Type, Time, Temperature, Centrifugation, labeling. Able to determine appropriateness of specimens for addon testing
- Responds to telephone inquiries and provides customer service to the end caller by addressing their needs and troubleshooting.
- Instructs, orients and mentors students, employees, patients and other health care providers as applicable.

The University of Kansas Health System Phlebotomist is a position within the clinical laboratory that is responsible for interpreting orders for lab work from providers within The University of Kansas Health System which are entered in the Hospital Information System and orders from outside providers that are presented as a manual order. The Phlebotomist must be able to interpret these orders and accurately identify the correct tube type for each test.The Phlebotomist follows regulatory, accreditation, safety and hospital standards, policies and procedures, and performs positive patient identification for each patient prior to blood draw and confirming patient identification after labeling the tubes. In the ambulatory setting, the Phlebotomist presents labeled tubes to the patient to confirm proper labeling. In the in-patient setting, the Phlebotomist matches the labeled tubes with the patient's wristband.
The Phlebotomist understands the importance of all pre-analytical variables such as positive patient identification, correct tube types, specimen conditions and integrity and how they affect laboratory results, and participates in quality assurance and quality improvement activities. The Phlebotomist releases orders out of the Hospital Information System (HIS) and receives specimens in the Laboratory Information System (LIS); and processes specimens to include centrifugation, aliquoting urine and pouring off plasma or serum if necessary for testing.
The Phlebotomist is considered the "face" of the clinical laboratory and is expected to represent the laboratory and themselves in a professional, respectful and courteous manner at all times. The Phlebotomist follows AIDET guidelines for customer service and patient satisfaction.
Additionally, the Phlebotomist working in the ambulatory setting must prepare specimens for transport by scanning the bar-coded sample onto a LIS packing list. The Phlebotomist must be able to troubleshoot difficult orders and assist with troubleshooting missing specimens when indicated. This position performs some data entry functions, manages requisitions and answers telephones to assist Laboratory customers. The Phlebotomist must be patient focused and capable of multi-tasking in a fast-paced environment.
Note: This PRN position will be for Evening/Night shifts, beginning at 8:30pm
Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions
- Performs blood draws by venipuncture according to standard protocol, ensuring patient safety and quality specimen collection.
- Performs specimen collection using appropriate techniques and adhering to requirements. Provides patients and/or care providers with instructions and necessary materials for specimen collection
- Provides immediate patient care if patient exhibits sign of a post-venipuncture reaction, typically vaso-vagal.
- Pro-actively assesses patient presentation and escorts patient to draw room with recliner if patient is an adolescent or young adult or states that they typically have a reaction to having their blood drawn.
- Performs data entry in applicable information systems in compliance with departmental and organizational policies
- Demonstrates knowledge of specimen collection techniques and requirements.
- Ensures proper container type, centrifugation, and transport conditions for specimens. Able to determine appropriateness of specimens for add-on testing.
- Releases orders on ambulatory health system patients with orders in HIS
- Receives samples in LIS, prints bar code labels and affixes labels to specimens. Enters outside orders in LIS when copy of outside order is scanned into HIS.
- Consults Phlebotomy Coordinator, Supervisor or Lab Leadership when appropriate if situation requires assistance
- Provides assistance to nursing staff when requested.
- Performs specimen processing duties such as aliquoting urine and separating blood samples when required for testing.
- Understands pre-analytical variables that can impact test results: Container Type, Time, Temperature, Centrifugation, labeling. Able to determine appropriateness of specimens for addon testing
- Responds to telephone inquiries and provides customer service to the end caller by addressing their needs and troubleshooting.
- Instructs, orients and mentors students, employees, patients and other health care providers as applicable.
- Maintains an adequate inventory of supplies

Patient Access Representative is responsible for greeting patients and visitors in the numerous outpatient registration areas. The Patient Access Representative is typically the first point of contact for our patients and visitors and customer service skills are monitored for excellence. They are held accountable for obtaining correct patient demographic and insurance information to ensure proper reimbursement is made to the hospital. Financial communication with patients will be handled in a positive and professional manner.Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions- Greets customers in prompt, courteous, and helpful manner.
- Verifies patient information and assures that patient completes and signs appropriate paperwork. Obtains copies of insurance cards, driver license and enters/updates patient demographic and insurance information in computer system both accurately and in timely manner. Compiles and maintains all forms and/or documents in the patient's medical record.
- Maintains appointment scheduling system to include scheduling, coordinating, and adjusting patient appointments appropriate to patient's request, provider schedule, and computerized system capability. Consistently follows "No-Show" procedure. Completes appointment reminder calls.
- Answers telephone promptly, screens calls, takes complete message including all necessary triage information or route/transfers call to appropriate staff member. Efficiently distributes information to nursing and medical support staff, accurately, and in a courteous and timely manner.
- Consistently collects patient co-pay and outstanding account balances.
- Prepares office batches and balances patient payments received at the completion of each workday.
- Serves as liaison between patient and medical support staff. Communicates with insurance company for necessary information regarding referral information and/or assists patient with scheduling specialist appointment and/or testing.
- Checks out patients providing visit specific information and schedules future appointments.
- Maintains clean, orderly front desk and waiting area.
- PARs with PAR/Clinical access to the electronic medical record will timely and accurately enter patient clinical information in the EMR as related to assigned tasks associated with PAR/Clinical access.
- Participates fully as a member of the Patient Centered Medical Home Team.
- Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.

The Ambulatory Clinic RN Care Coordinator is a licensed registered professional nurse who is a clinical expert who provides ethical, evidence-based, safe and compassionate nursing care.  The Ambulatory Clinic RN Care Coordinator focuses on patient safety and the quality of nursing care by identifying and clarifying patient needs, performing clinic related patient care, conducting health education, promoting patient advocacy, coordinating healthcare services, and evaluating patient outcomes. The RN Care Coordinator will provide support to their assigned physicians by communicating with the patient/family/caregiver and relaying the information to the physician. They will provide support and nursing care services during the physician's clinic sessions and ensuring the patient/family/caregiver understands the plan of care. They will verify all orders placed during the clinic session have been completed and the physician has been notified of the results.Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions- Responsible for management of patient flow, triage, and direct patient care.
- Liaison of communication between front desk staff, nursing staff, physicians, and clinic manager
- Manage the care of the patient population by developing expected patient outcomes, defining appropriate resource utilization, and working with the provider to set patient goals.
- Provide nursing support/coordination to the practice to optimize patient outcomes and to improve patient’s quality of life through clinical and educational programs and/or support services.
- Support patient self-management of disease.

- Utilize available electronic tools, such as EMR, to efficiently document assessments, clinical finds, plans of treatment and progress toward goals.
- Observes, records and reports patient's condition and reaction to drugs and treatments to physicians. Educates patient/family about diagnostic procedures, medications, nutrition and maintenance of health and wellness.
- Maintains/reviews patient records, charts and other pertinent information. Records tests and examination results and then follows up with patient. Posts tests and examination results.
- Responds to/refers incoming patient treatment-related phone calls. Instructs patient and family regarding medications and treatment instructions.
- Maintains patient confidentiality.
- In providing patient care, document using EMR to maintain and/or develop patient records in compliance with practice standards

The Pharmacy Technician I - Acute Care - Community, CAH, Behavioral Health is an entry level position. - Prepares medications for dispensing: Prepares medications for dispensing with accuracy following processes as trained. Follows all established procedures and safety protocols during routine daily workflows. Passes annual sterile compounding competency
- Distributes medications and stock items: Accurately pulls and stocks medications in ADS machines. Ensures accuracy of ADS inventory through outdates, cycle counts, resolution of discrepancies and accurate barcode scanning. Completes / Maintains distribution records as required. Completes automation inspections. Resolves common distribution issues such as jammed label printer, light bar, etc. Performs procedures, such as loading/assigning and unloading/unassigning as trained.
- Maintains Pharmacy Inventory: Restocks pharmacy inventory in appropriate quantities. Ensures appropriate rotation of inventory. Identifies and removes expiring medication from pharmacy inventory. Processes order upon receipt from wholesaler. Completes monthly unit inspections as assigned. Identifies when stock is low and follows order request process.
- Operates pharmacy computer systems: Independently operates organization and pharmacy technology systems following processes as trained.
- Compliance and recordkeeping: Accurately maintains required logs and records following processes as trained.
- Patient Care: Provides courteous, professional service when assisting patients, caregivers, and staff. Directs medication-related or clinical questions to a pharmacist. Accurately gathers and documents information.
