Position Title
Position Summary / Career Interest:
The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) in the Emergency Department (ED) manages health problems and coordinates health care in the ED setting. These APPs deliver patient care and medical services to individuals, families and groups by utilizing standards of care in accordance with State and Federal rules and regulations to assess health status, diagnose medical conditions, develop medical plan of care, implement treatments and evaluate patient responses in collaboration with collaborative/sponsoring physician as described in a Collaborative Practice Agreement.Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions- Able to evaluate medical problems of patients who present to the ED and appropriately requests consultation of other specialties when indicated.
- Provides education to patients and/or families about preventive care, medical issues and use of prescribed medical treatments and/or medications.
- Creates diagnostically appropriate treatment plans
- Documents all medical evaluation, diagnoses, procedures, treatments, outcomes, education, referrals and consultations consistent with NCQA, The Joint Commission, state regulatory standards and evidenced-based standards of care. Maintains documentation compliance for appropriate coding and billing.
- Facilitates evaluation of records by physician(s), peers and quality standards according to protocols and receives and implements constructive directives.
- May refer complex and high priority cases to collaborating physician with regards to complicated diagnostic problems, serious illness, complicated therapeutic problems and re-evaluation of chronic conditions.
- Provides medical and emergency interventions appropriate to the client’s needs; prescribes and monitors medications appropriate to the diagnosis; orders and monitors the appropriateness of emergency interventions.
- Maintains collegiality with all members of the inter-disciplinary team
- Utilizes appropriate chain-of-command and communicates with ED Program Director, APP Director and Medical Director of any clinical issue and contributes to quality improvement or process improvement as necessary.
- Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.

Required Education and Experience
- Master Degree Nursing from an accredited program in Advanced Practice Nursing for APRNs. OR
- Doctor of Nursing Practice from an accredited program in Advanced Practice Nursing for APRNs. OR
- Master's Degree in Physician Assistant
- Age appropriate training for “population served” may depend on APRN/PA program training and may require additional training as determined by the department.
Preferred Education and Experience
- Previous APRN or PA experience
Required Licensure and Certification
- Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) - State Board of Nursing Current advance practice license for the State of Kansas an Missouri (depending on practice locations). OR
- Licensed Physician Assistant (PA) - State Board of Healing Arts Current advance practice license for the State of Kansas and Missouri (depending on practice locations).
- PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support - American Heart Association (AHA) within 60 Days
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS or BCLS) - American Heart Association (AHA)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - American Heart Association (AHA)
- Advanced practice certification required. APRNs may obtain within one year of date of hire; Specific certification may be required depending on specialty.
Preferred Licensure and Certification
- Specialty certification.

Position Title
Position Summary / Career Interest:
The Radiology Technologist Trainee performs x-ray procedures to produce images for the purpose of diagnosing disease processes under the supervision of a licensed Radiologic Technologist until board certified. Procedures can be performed at various locations throughout the main campus and at hospital associated imaging facilities. Competence is required for both fixed and mobile x-ray devices. Experience is required in high acuity areas, surgical areas and for less acute outpatient customers.Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions- Must be competent in the use of all x-ray equipment, both fixed and mobile. Has the ability to provide this service throughout the department.
- Demonstrates flexibility in reviewing new approaches in response to changing organizational and healthcare needs.
- Seeks out assistance appropriately in regard to policies and procedures, patient safety, infection control and other departmental and organizational requirements.
- Ensures communication is consistent, provided in multiple forms and is effective.
- Ensures that a high priority is recognized and observed by all staff relating to safety; this includes employees, patients, vendors and other customers.
- Is responsible for reporting information to Radiology leadership in regard to potential hazards, safety and/or behavioral demonstrations that do not provide for safe and “world class” healthcare environment.
- Ensures that patients are treated in a timely fashion and that patient satisfaction requires technologist participation in the transport process.
- Participates and assists radiology leadership in the collection of information related to process improvement.
- Interacts with all hospital customers to assist with patient and customer satisfaction and HCAPS scores.

The Youth Employment Program Associate (Environmental Services) provides high school students ages 16-17 with hands-on exposure to healthcare operations while supporting a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for patients, visitors, and staff. Working alongside healthcare professionals and support teams, this PRN role assists with environmental services functions, including cleaning and sanitizing patient care and public areas, stocking and delivering linens, managing waste and soiled linens, maintaining housekeeping equipment and supplies, and adhering to infection prevention, safety, and quality standards. Participants develop foundational workplace skills, professionalism, teamwork, and an understanding of healthcare support services while contributing to an environment that promotes patient safety and positive care experiences. Flexible scheduling supports academic and extracurricular commitments, with a recommended average commitment of approximately 20 hours per month.Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions- Performs cleaning procedures according to cleaning schedule meeting department quality standards.
- Demonstrates thorough knowledge of cleaning procedures used in facility spaces, including patient rooms, isolation rooms, utility rooms, exam rooms, public areas, restrooms, labs, offices, classrooms, auditoriums, corridors, elevators, stairwells, ancillary areas, outer buildings, storerooms, equipment rooms, housekeeping closets, dock areas, trash areas, and outside entrance areas.
- Follows all hospital and department Infection Prevention and Control, Human Resources, and Safety policies and procedures. Reports infection prevention, control, and safety incidents to supervisor. Assists with completion of incident reports.
- May be trained to complete project cleaning if required in work assignment, including scrubbing, stripping, and burnishing hard surface floors; cleaning carpet, furniture, and mats; moving equipment and/or furniture; washing walls, ceilings, doors, floors, windows, vents, lights, trashcans, trash dumpsters, equipment, and furniture; and replacing curtains, blinds, draperies, and shower curtains as assigned.
- Delivers clean linen and stocks linen carts to established par levels.
- Removes soiled linen and trash and transports them to appropriate soiled linen storage rooms, dumpsters, or recycle containers.
- Keeps housekeeping cart and closet clean, safe, and orderly. Collects equipment and/or supplies for daily use. Restocks housekeeping cart and closet daily to ensure adequate supply of chemicals and cleaning supplies. Uses cleaning chemicals safely and efficiently according to established procedures.
- Operates and maintains housekeeping equipment safely and efficiently in accordance with established procedures. Cleans equipment before returning it to storage area. Reports equipment in need of repair and safety hazards to supervisor.
- May be required to carry a device for communication purposes. Responds to pages, radio, and telephone communications promptly and professionally. Shows consideration when interacting with co-workers and customers.

The University of Kansas Health System Phlebotomist is a position within the clinical laboratory that is responsible for interpreting orders for lab work from providers within The University of Kansas Health System which are entered in the Hospital Information System and orders from outside providers that are presented as a manual order. The Phlebotomist must be able to interpret these orders and accurately identify the correct tube type for each test.The Phlebotomist follows regulatory, accreditation, safety and hospital standards, policies and procedures, and performs positive patient identification for each patient prior to blood draw and confirming patient identification after labeling the tubes. In the ambulatory setting, the Phlebotomist presents labeled tubes to the patient to confirm proper labeling. In the in-patient setting, the Phlebotomist matches the labeled tubes with the patient's wristband.
The Phlebotomist understands the importance of all pre-analytical variables such as positive patient identification, correct tube types, specimen conditions and integrity and how they affect laboratory results, and participates in quality assurance and quality improvement activities. The Phlebotomist releases orders out of the Hospital Information System (HIS) and receives specimens in the Laboratory Information System (LIS); and processes specimens to include centrifugation, aliquoting urine and pouring off plasma or serum if necessary for testing.
The Phlebotomist is considered the "face" of the clinical laboratory and is expected to represent the laboratory and themselves in a professional, respectful and courteous manner at all times. The Phlebotomist follows AIDET guidelines for customer service and patient satisfaction.
Additionally, the Phlebotomist working in the ambulatory setting must prepare specimens for transport by scanning the bar-coded sample onto a LIS packing list. The Phlebotomist must be able to troubleshoot difficult orders and assist with troubleshooting missing specimens when indicated. This position performs some data entry functions, manages requisitions and answers telephones to assist Laboratory customers. The Surgical Support Services Technician, under direction of supervisor or other member of the management team is responsible for ensuring that the surgical services team has access to supplies/instrumentation in a timely manner; provide efficient and customer focused service to Perioperative Services team including team members, leadership and medical staff and to patients/visitors; assists in transfers of patients; provides customer-focused service to the department for accurate and efficient surgical services supply support.Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions- Assists with patient transfers and communicates with patient utilizing high service standards/behaviors.
- Communicates with the health care team; effective communication regarding room needs, necessary follow-up by intraoperative team.
- Facilitates adequate stocking of emergency supply stock and specialty section stock to ensure accessibility for patient care needs.
- Maintains high level of supply organization to ensure that inventory is appropriately managed and accessible to the health care team.
- Participates in projects and performs other duties as assigned by the Surgical Support Services Supervisor and/or other member of the Perioperative leadership team.
- Partners with anesthesia services to ensure practitioners have access to required supplies for patient care delivery.
- Performs room and department decontamination as recommended by CDC, AORN, ASA, KUHA and manufacturer’s guidelines.
- Performs task related to pulling supplies and instruments to adequately and accurately prepare for cases; tasks include quality control mechanisms to ensure successful case pulls.
- Provides resources to staff during surgical cases to ensure that the team has the tools and equipment to perform surgical duties with minimal unnecessary interruption.
- Reviews and follows processes for acquiring, storing and handling surgical equipment in an organized, efficient manner according to division guidelines.
