Position Purpose:
The Behavioral Health Nurse provides assessments, support and care coordination across the behavioral health care continuum for patients struggling with mental illness as well as individuals and families seeking resources or information about treatment options. The Behavioral Health Nurse is an integral member of Behavioral Health Service Line and works collaboratively with the treatment team members and providers in the various inpatient and outpatient programs offered at Mercy. The Behavioral Health Nurse works closely with community partners to ensure successful transition of care and promotes education to the public on Behavioral Health-related topics through various forums.
What you will Do:
- Assesses and evaluates individuals' physical, psychosocial, environmental, spiritual, social and education needs.
- Works collaboratively with the Behavioral Health inpatient and outpatient teams to achieve desired patient care outcomes and ensure a smooth transition of care
- Provides, facilitates, and/or implements learning opportunities to meet the educational needs of patients, families or members of the community.
- When required, documents patient information in the electronic/paper medical record in an accurate, timely manner
- Provides competent patient care to the above indicated patient populations by obtaining and appropriately interpreting data, making appropriate decisions based on demonstrated knowledge of age-specific growth and development, and appropriately adapting procedures and treatments.
- Effectively communicates pertinent patient changes/conditions to colleagues and to multidisciplinary caregivers.
Hours/Schedule:
Full Time 36hrs a week
Night 12hr shift 7pm - 7:30am
Every third weekend, every other holiday
Minimum Qualifications:
- Current RN Licensure in the state of Iowa, or qualified multistate licensure required.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred
- Ability to be non-judgmental regarding living and health related decisions.

Position Purpose:
The Licensed Practical Nurse provides patient care under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse. The Licensed Practical Nurse works with the multidisciplinary team while using the nursing process and maintaining professional nursing standards.

What you will do:
Assures the medical record is adequately supplied and in proper order. Assures the workstation equipment is functioning appropriately, office supplies are adequate (not excessive), and maintains an updated working knowledge of new equipment and technology.
Transcribes and/or enters written physician orders, completes necessary forms, requisitions, and communication of all orders approved/reviewed by RN. The Polysomnographic Technician performs all types of sleep disorder testing, including set-up and performance of nocturnal polysomnograms (PSGs). Comfortable with training of sleep interns as needed.
What you will Do:
- Performs polysomnographic data acquisitions while monitoring study quality to ensure signal are in artifact-free. Identity and report signal abnormalities.
- Follow procedural protocols (such as MSLT, CPAP and oxygen titration, etc.) to ensure collection of appropriate data.
- Properly cleans electrodes, CPAP mask, patient room, control/prep rooms and other sleep equipment and if necessary, prepares them for sterilization techniques. Including cleaning the patient's scalp properly.
- Reviews orders, medications, medical history of pending sleep studies; assesses documentation, determines parameters to be monitored and communicate with ordering physician/Medical Director as necessary.
- Administers medications and supplemental 02 as directed by physician.
- Recognizes and responds to serious medical problems per protocol and notifies on-call physician as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

Position Purpose:
The Polysomnographic Technician performs all types of sleep disorder testing, including set-up and performance of nocturnal polysomnograms (PSGs). Comfortable with training of sleep interns as needed.
What you will Do:
- Performs polysomnographic data acquisitions while monitoring study quality to ensure signal are in artifact-free. Identity and report signal abnormalities.
- Follow procedural protocols (such as MSLT, CPAP and oxygen titration, etc.) to ensure collection of appropriate data.
- Properly cleans electrodes, CPAP mask, patient room, control/prep rooms and other sleep equipment and if necessary, prepares them for sterilization techniques. Including cleaning the patient's scalp properly.
- Reviews orders, medications, medical history of pending sleep studies; assesses documentation, determines parameters to be monitored and communicate with ordering physician/Medical Director as necessary.
- Administers medications and supplemental 02 as directed by physician.
- Recognizes and responds to serious medical problems per protocol and notifies on-call physician as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

GENERAL SUMMARY:
A Respiratory Therapist performs patient assessment, evaluation for appropriate therapy, administration of therapy, consultation with other health care providers, diagnostic testing, implementation and troubleshooting of equipment and monitoring of patient. - Participates in cardiopulmonary resuscitation, assists or performs intubation, manages artificial airway, and transport of patients requiring ventilatory support.
- Assembles, manipulates, and troubleshoots Respiratory Care equipment including mechanical ventilators, pulse oximeters, capnometers, aerosol generators, medical gas delivery systems, humidification systems, and mechanical percussors.
- Interprets diagnostic results for feasibility and reports results, to include blood or other body fluid analysis by blood gas analyzer and co-oximeter, pulmonary function screening, pulmonary mechanics studies, end-tidal C02, and pulse oximetry.
- Performs record keeping, billing and medical record documentation functions.
- Provides patient instruction in the use of Respiratory Care devices and procedures.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Certificate of completion from an accredited Respiratory Care Program by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Educational Programs (CAAHEP).
- Credential by the National Board for Respiratory Care as a Certified or Registered Respiratory Therapist.
- State of Iowa Respiratory Care Practitioner license.

Position Purpose:
This position is responsible for promoting improved patient care outcomes through coordinating effective orientation, education, evaluation and ongoing development of all support, technical and nursing colleagues. This is accomplished through a combination of direct patient care and unitbased education responsibilities (approximately 50/50). This position accepts the responsibility and accountability for the delivery of patient care with the multidisciplinary team while using the nursing process and maintaining professional nursing standards.
What you will Do:
A. Coordinates and facilitates orientation activities in collaboration with preceptor, clinical leader and director.
B. Facilitates and provides educational and clinical experiences for colleagues to develop and maintain skills and competencies.
C. Serves as a validator, super-user, and/or trainer for annual competencies, equipment, processes, standard work, etc.
D. Maintains accurate unit-based education records.
E. Collaborates with director in the development and implementation of department education plan.
F. Collaborates with director to: a. Ensure educational outcomes of liaison meetings (i.e. skin care, safety, infection prevention, etc.) are completed, and serve as back up for liaison when needed. b. Ensure educational outcomes of nursing shared governance council meetings are completed and serves as back up.
Minimum Qualifications:
A. Education [formal]:
1. Graduate of a program in professional nursing.
2. Current RN licensure in the state of Iowa, or qualified multi-state license required.
3. BSN required or completed within 5 years.
4. Certification in area of practice (i.e., CCRN) preferred (from the Magnet approved certifications).
B. Experience:
1. Minimum of 3 years professional nursing experience required
2. Demonstrates expertise in all aspects of the nursing care setting.
C. Special Skills and Competencies:
1. Ability to work on multiple projects at one time and flexibility to meet department needs.
2. Ability to work flexible hours to meet department and colleague educational needs.
3. Self-motivated, detail oriented individual able to work with minimum supervision.
4. Strong technology skills including software (i.e.: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, audio/video equipment, and Electronic Medical Record).
5. Excellent collaboration and organizational skills.
6. Excellent communication skills, including public speaking and written skills. 7. Ability to establish and maintain working relationships.
8. High degree of initiative and judgment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Performs basic respiratory therapy procedures under the supervision of a licensed respiratory therapist in accordance with evidence-based clinical practice guidelines, and departmental and hospital policies and procedures. Procedures include, but are not limited to oxygen, aerosol therapy with and without medication, hyperinflation therapy, incentive spirometry, airway care, suctioning, chest physiotherapy, and EKG.
Performs diagnostic procedures including, but not limited to oximetry, capnography, arterial puncture, and pulmonary function testing.
May participate in monitoring of CPAP, BiPAP, and mechanical ventilators.
Consults with and assists physicians and nurses with respiratory care plan for patients and facilitates the implementation of physician orders.
Assess patients and evaluates appropriateness and quality of respiratory care of individual patients for the purpose of making necessary modifications and adjustments of care plan and equipment use.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be enrolled in an accredited Respiratory Therapy program with current participation in respiratory classes and clinical rotations.
Must have knowledge of basic respiratory therapy procedures and have documented competency validation.
Child and Dependent Adult Abuse Mandatory Reporter Training is required within 6 months of hire and every 3 years thereafter.
Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) will be required within 30 days of hire and every 2 years thereafter.
Ability to read, write and speak English language.
Must be able to organize, prioritize, and function in an environment with multiple stress factors.
Adaptability to performing under stress when confronted with emergent, critical, unusual, or dangerous situations, or situation in which working speed and sustained attention are vital aspects of the job.
Must demonstrate the ability to exercise professional judgment in dealing with patients, physicians, and other healthcare team members.
Must be able to use a computer for documentation and other relevant activities.
