Join the MercyOne Family! We are looking to hire a Department Support Assistant.
As a Department Support Assistant at MercyOne, performs clerical work and coordinates communications within the assigned nursing unit. Facilitates communication between the nursing unit and other hospital departments
Schedule:
- 8-hours Days M - F; Hours may vary as needed; possible holidays
General Requirements:
- Performs clerical duties for the nursing unit by maintaining charts; answering multi-line phones; greeting and assisting customers in a friendly and timely manner; and sorting and distributing mail.
- Utilizes computer applications (Electronic Health Records, etc.) and communication technologies (Teletracking, Vocera, Hillrohm System, etc.) effectively.
- Communicates patient information or department needs such as dietary, environmental services, and all Information Technology issues.
- Maintains a safe, neat, and organized work environment by ordering and stocking supplies, forms, and equipment as necessary. Identifies and reports problems with supplies or equipment; enters repair requests; and conducts environmental rounding.
- Prepare documents and records in compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Demonstrates work practices consistent with safety, security, and infection control policies, including adhering to the Safe Medication Handling protocol for both delivery and removal of medications.
- Conducts auditing of records, data, and transactions per unit management team request.
- Maintains meeting room schedules.
- Other duties as needed and assigned by the manager.
Minimum Requirements:
- Must be at least 16 years of age.

Join the MercyOne Family! We are looking to hire a Patient Care Tech.
As a Patient Care Tech at MercyOne, you will be supports the professional clinical staff by providing direct patient care and performing studies and tests as assigned. These duties may vary by shift or may be unit-specific.
Schedule:
- 12-hour shifts; 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM; Days; rotating weekends and holidays
General Requirements:
- Delivers assigned patient care and treatment as delegated by an RN or LPN.
- Performs or assists patients with activities including personal hygiene, bathing, ambulation, transporting, range of motion exercises, dressing/undressing, feeding, changing bandages, elimination needs, and emptying drainage devices.
- Responds to patient calls and anticipates patient needs. Assures patient safety and comfort through use of safe patient handling techniques, regular rounding, environmental maintenance, equipment maintenance, and other appropriate safety measures.
- Calculates intake and output (excluding IVs). Measures vital signs. Performs bedside blood glucose testing. Makes entries to patient health records as consistent with scope of job duties and in compliance with company policy.
- Initiates or assists with emergency support measures (i.e., cardiopulmonary resuscitation, protecting patient from injury).
- Performs post-mortem care.
- Sets up equipment and supplies for procedures. Prepares patients and rooms for procedures, admissions, and transfers. Discharges patients from system.
- Observes and reports information regarding any change in physical/mental condition, behavior, or status of the patient to the nurse.
- Collects and labels specimens.
- Sets up, operates, and maintains selected pieces of equipment.
Minimum Qualification:
- Must be 16 years of age.
- Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter – Child and/or Dependent Adult Abuse training within three (3) months of hire.
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certified within six (6) weeks of hire.

GENERAL SUMMARY:
Provides professional emergency nursing care for acutely ill and injured patients incorporating the nursing process of all age groups including neonates, infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics. Provides patient and family education. Serves as a patient advocate and liaison with other health care providers. Serves as a preceptor for new employees and students.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Applies professional emergency nursing skills in the care and treatment of acutely ill and injured patients utilizing the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.

Provides psychological support based on assessed need.
Utilizes multiple teaching methods. Discharge instructions are reviewed and understanding acknowledged by the patient/family.

Supervises Emergency Department Technicians.
Serves as a preceptor for students and employees (i.e. EMS, nursing, new employees).
Works independently using the Nurse Practice Act, hospital policies, and professional judgment. Makes recommendations to improve the Emergency Department’s Standards of Care.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Possession of a current or compact state license as a registered nurse issued/defined by the State of Iowa.
One year of RN experience preferred OR new graduate if the candidate has completed senior nursing preceptorship at Mercy Emergency or previous experience as an emergency department technician or experience in a pre-hospital environment.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

As a Patient Care Technician Assistant - PeriOp at MercyOne, Supports the professional clinical staff by providing direct patient care and performing studies and tests as assigned by the physician or RN. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
1. Graduate of a CCNE accredited nursing program with Master’s Degree in Nursing
2. National Certification by one of the recognized APRN Certification Centers
3. Current licensure or eligibility for licensure as a professional Registered Nurse and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in West Virginia
4. Basic Life Support Certification required with additional Advanced Life Support (ALS)/Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) training at the discretion of the department.

1. Administers or orders diagnostic tests, such as x-ray and POC lab tests.
2. Examines patients to obtain information about their physical condition.
3. Instructs and counsels patients about prescribed therapeutic regimens, normal growth and development, emotional problems of daily living, and health maintenance.
4. Interprets diagnostic test results for deviations from normal.
5. Makes diagnosis and decisions about management and treatment of patients.
6. Obtains, compiles and records patient medical data, including health history, progress notes and results of physical examination utilizing the Meditech EMR.
7. Performs therapeutic procedures, such as injections, immunizations, suturing and wound care and infection management.
8. Prescribes therapy or medication – electronically when available.
9. Educates, instructs and coordinates activities with the medical assistant(s) as needed during the care and treatment of patients.
10. Provides emergency support following established policies and procedures.
11. Communicates with staff, medical staff and administration in support of operations.
