Acts as technical information resource for MercyOne Des Moines Laboratory.Identifies problems that may adversely affect test performance and/orresults and uses knowledgeand skillsto troubleshoot and resolve them. Consults with Medical Technologists and/or Medical Laboratory Scientists when appropriate. Performs tasks and procedures specific to assigned section with minimal supervision.
Uses educational and technicalexpertiseto troubleshoot issues related to specimen quality, instrument/methodperformanceand analytical interferences to ensure patient results match clinical status.
Assistsand supports quality management systems and performance improvement initiatives.
Works independently, organizing work to meet established deadlines and records.
Maintains supply inventories.
Trains new employees and acts aspreceptorfor laboratory students.
Operates laboratory information systems, personal computers, and instrument-related computer software.
Provides exceptional customer service to internal and external customers.
Functions specific to West Lakes Lab, Blood Bank, Hematology, Chemistry and Microbiology Sections:
Performs complex laboratory proceduresutilizedfor the diagnosis and treatment of disease asappropriate forpatient age to include neonates, infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric adults; recognizes deviation from expected results; analyzes and corrects problems using scientific principles.
Analyzes quality control data, makes judgments concerning the results, and takesappropriate actiontomaintaintest accuracy and precision.
Performs preventive maintenance and basic troubleshooting of instrumentation and equipment.
Assistswith new instrument or procedure implementation and training.
General Requirements:
Associate’sdegree in science-related field.
Successful completion of a NAACLS or ABHES accredited MLT program oralternate career path that meets certification eligibility requirements.
Certification in one of the following:
Medical LaboratoryTechnician (MLT)by the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP).
MedicalLaboratory Technician(MLT) by the American Medical Technologists (AMT).
A person may be hired into this position if he/she has completed the requirements for registration for the certification exam. The exam must be successfully completed within six (6) months of hire.

Performs and reports all assigned tests with expected precision and accuracy and obtains blood or other body fluid from patients.
Operates computer equipment and software programs relative to performance of essential job functions and other laboratory related requirements.
Records all required quality control results.
Maintains, calibrates, and repairs equipment with accurate records of services.
Performs all duties and responsibilities as outlined in CLIA regulations.
Maintains and appropriate inventory of supplies in the assigned area. Prepares reagents or media in prescribed manner.
Participates in the evaluation of new procedures, equipment and methods.
Set up cultures, read gram stains, and perform rapid kit testing in Microbiology.
Following established standard work practices and using established safety precautions, collects blood specimens utilizing the appropriate venipuncture, capillary fingerstick or heelstick technique with patients of all age groups including neonates, pediatrics, adolescents, adults and geriatrics.
Accurately identifies patients prior to collection of specimens using two patient identifiers and accurately labeling the specimens in the presence of the patient as established by laboratory policy.
Maintains required department confidentiality and abides by HIPPA regulations.
Knows each job thoroughly and trains colleagues in section to follow established standard work practices. Monitors/audits for compliance and instructs colleagues when non-compliance occurs
Provides competent patient care to the above indicated patient populations by obtaining and appropriately interpreting data, making appropriate decisions based on demonstrated knowledge of age-specific growth and development, and appropriately adapting procedures and treatments.
Takes an active role in enhancing ability to carry out job functions through personal and professional/job-related growth and development and participates in medical center and/or departmental education programs.
Communicates with and performs duties following the philosophy of MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center and the Sisters of Mercy reflecting the organization’s Mission, Values, and Guiding Behaviors.
Supports and abides by all medical center, departmental, and safety policies and procedures. Proactively identifies safety concerns surrounding the work environment.
Performs other responsibilities as requested by manager or department head.
Schedule: Monday through Friday 0600-1430. Weekends and holidays as needed
General Requirements:
Bachelor's in medical technology, clinical laboratory science, or chemical, physical, or biological science degree is required or qualifies as an MT under the CLIA high complexity testing personnel qualifications. Educational transcript required for verification.
Previous experience is preferred.
MLS/MT (ASCP) registry required or completed within two years of hire.

Uses a team approach to delegate and coordinate patient care at admission, transfer, and discharge. Independently delivers nursing care using the Nurse Practice Act, Mercy Medical Center policies, nursing standards, ethical principles, and professional judgment. Works rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays as scheduled.
- Assesses, plans, and implements nursing care while ensuring patient comfort.
- Practices safe patient handling techniques.

Position Summary
We’re looking for a detail‑oriented and customer‑focused Documentation Specialist to join our team! In this role, you’ll help ensure all regulated medical records documentation meets HCFA, MCC, and JCAHO guidelines. You’ll be responsible for receiving, reviewing, and processing back‑end documentation so billing is accurate and submitted on time.
You’ll work closely with the Business/Facilities Manager and act as an important liaison between physician offices and our agency—helping resolve issues, track outstanding documentation, and support smooth, compliant records processes.

What You’ll Do
- Ensure all medical records documentation is completed accurately and submitted according to regulatory requirements.
- Enter data into billing software and verify accuracy of client accounts.
- Troubleshoot system issues and prepare documentation for resolution when needed.
- Generate and process billing reports weekly, ensuring timely and clean billing.
- Partner with Intake and other teams to improve processes and maintain the integrity of client accounts.
- Provide monthly billing/accounts receivable updates to the Business/Facilities Manager.

As a Patient Care Tech at MercyOne, you will be supports the professional clinical staff by providing direct patient care and performing studies and tests as assigned. These duties may vary by shift or may be unit-specific.

- 8-hour shifts; Days; M-F 7:00 AM - 4:00 PM
General Requirements:
- Delivers assigned patient care and treatment as delegated by a Radiologic Technologist.
- Performs or assists patients with activities including personal hygiene, bathing, ambulation, transporting, range of motion exercises, dressing/undressing, feeding, changing bandages, elimination needs, and emptying drainage devices.
- Responds to patient calls and anticipates patient needs. Assures patient safety and comfort through use of safe patient handling techniques, regular rounding, environmental maintenance, equipment maintenance, and other appropriate safety measures.
- Calculates intake and output (excluding IVs). Measures vital signs. Makes entries to patient health records as consistent with scope of job duties and in compliance with company policy.

- Performs post-mortem care.

Minimum Qualification:
- Must be 16 years of age.
- Completion of75-hour, 120-hour or 150-hour Certified Nursing Assistant program OR be listed as having passed CNA competency testing on the Iowa Direct Care Worker registry.
- Currently enrolled in RN program or a Graduate of an accredited RN or LPN program, certification as an EMT in the State of Iowa OR formally holding a medical occupational specialty from the military may be substituted for completion of CNA program and CNA Registry.
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certified within six (6) weeks of hire. Acceptable credentialing bodies and certifications include American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers.
