MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
1. Graduate of a CCNE accredited nursing program with Master’s Degree in Nursing
2. National Certification by one of the recognized APRN Certification Centers
3. Current licensure or eligibility for licensure as a professional Registered Nurse and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in West Virginia
4. Basic Life Support Certification required with additional Advanced Life Support (ALS)/Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) training at the discretion of the department.

1. Acute care, surgical, critical care, or trauma experience

1. Administers or orders diagnostic tests, such as x-ray and POC lab tests.
2. Examines patients to obtain information about their physical condition.

4. Interprets diagnostic test results for deviations from normal.
5. Makes diagnosis and decisions about management and treatment of patients.
6. Obtains, compiles and records patient medical data, including health history, progress notes and results of physical examination utilizing the Meditech EMR.
7. Performs therapeutic procedures, such as injections, immunizations, suturing and wound care and infection management.
8. Prescribes therapy or medication – electronically when available.
9. Educates, instructs and coordinates activities with the medical assistant(s) as needed during the care and treatment of patients.
10. Provides emergency support following established policies and procedures.
11. Communicates with staff, medical staff and administration in support of operations.

This job provides direct care (including IV therapy) of assigned patients within the framework of the Licensed Practical Nurse Act under the direction of a registered nurse. Position Purpose:
The Patient Logistics Access Specialist serves as the first point of contact for all incoming transfer and admission requests to MercyOne Health Ministries. This role is responsible for initiating the transfer workflow by capturing accurate patient demographics, referral details, presenting concerns, and key operational information needed to support timely clinical review. As the central communications entry point, the Access Specialist ensures calls are efficiently routed to the appropriate Patient Logistics Clinician, RN, or operational partner while maintaining a high level of customer service and professionalism.
Working within established protocols, regulatory requirements, and documentation standards, the Access Specialist manages multi-line call activity, supports real-time capacity navigation, and assists with coordination between referring facilities, receiving units, transport teams, and internal stakeholders. Although non‑clinical, this role is essential to maintaining EMTALA‑sensitive documentation accuracy, minimizing delays in patient movement, and supporting the safe and efficient flow of information across the health system.
Through strong communication, exceptional attention to detail, and reliable execution of administrative and operational tasks, the Patient Logistics Access Specialist directly contributes to patient safety, system throughput, resource stewardship, and the overall performance of the MercyOne Patient Logistics Center.
What you will do:
- Knows, understands, incorporates, and demonstrates the Trinity Health Mission, Vision, and Values in behaviors, practices, and decisions.
- Serves as the first point of contact for all incoming transfer, admission, and consultation requests, ensuring calls are answered promptly and routed correctly.
- Collects and verifies accurate demographic, referral, and operational information from sending facilities, EMS agencies, and providers to initiate the transfer workflow.
- Manages multi-line phone activity efficiently, prioritizing calls and minimizing delays to support safe and timely patient transitions.
- Documents all call details and required information in electronic health records and transfer management systems with accuracy, completeness, and regulatory awareness.
- Routes calls and essential information to the appropriate Patient Logistics Clinician (Paramedic/EMT), RN, Charge RN, or operational team member based on established protocols.

As the only Pediatric inpatient unit in the Dubuque area, pediatric staff provide family centered care to pediatric patients up to the age of 18. This includes conducting physical assessments, monitoring and administration of medications, creating care plans and providing relevant patient education. Pediatric staff work closely with physicians, respiratory therapists and laboratory personnel to fulfill each patient’s plan of care.
Working a primarily night position, staff are assigned every third weekend and have an assigned holiday rotation. Working primarily 1800-0630, schedule is otherwise created utilizing self-scheduling with the guidance of the unit based staffing committee.
Pediatric staff will be cross-trained to the Level 2 NICU to take patients admitted to that unit, in addition to crosstraining to care for postpartum couplets. Opportunities to assist in the Emergency Department with pediatric patients as well, including assessments and cares. All Pediatric staff are certified in NRP and PALS onsite, and are also required to be certified in BLS and mandatory reporter.
Full time position in the Birth Center at MercyOne Dubuque Medical Center. Primarily night position; this position is also required to work every third weekend and every third holiday. Care for the laboring patient in addition to postpartum couplets and surgical patients. Will be cross trained to assist in pediatrics during times of high census. Required to become Electronic Fetal Monitor certified within first year, in addition to ACLS and NRP; Mandatory Reporter and BLS also required.
POSITION PURPOSE:
Provides and directs safe, effective, and culturally competent care for women, newborns, and pediatric patients. Utilizes evidence-based practice and critical thinking to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate outcome-based care. Manages a diverse patient population across labor and delivery, postpartum, newborn nursery, pediatrics, and/or pediatric intensive care, with varying levels of acuity. Supervises and coordinates care provided by LPNs, Patient Care Technicians/Assistants, and other team members, while ensuring clear communication with physicians, families, and the interdisciplinary team. As a Lab Assistant at MercyOne, you will support a variety of laboratory departments by assisting technical staff in the collection, processing, analysis, and reporting of laboratory tests necessary for patient diagnosis and treatment. The role requires the skills needed to ensure specimens, patient information, and testing workflows are handled accurately and efficiently. By contributing to reliable test processes and smooth laboratory operations, this position helps maintain timely turnaround, data integrity, and compliance with quality and safety standards.
- Performs venipunctures, finger sticks, and heel sticks appropriate to patient age (neonates through geriatric adults) and ensures proper specimen collection according to laboratory policy.
- Accepts specimens and requisitions from internal and external customers and manages add‑on orders and pending lists in accordance with laboratory procedures.
- Identifies patients and specimens using two unique patient identifiers and accurately labels specimen containers to ensure correct identification.
- Registers and logs specimens in the Laboratory Information System (LIS), evaluates specimen adequacy and acceptability, and scans required documentation into the patient record.
- Performs specimen processing such as proper identification, aliquoting, plate streaking, slide preparation, special handling, and required documentation in accordance with laboratory protocols.
- Assists in resolving problematic patient specimens and test orders in collaboration with laboratory staff and clients.
- Follows safety, infection control, and chemical‑handling procedures and supports efficient workflow practices that promote accurate testing, timely turnaround, and productivity expectations.
- Operates laboratory information systems proficiently to support accurate data entry and workflow management.
- Contributes to general laboratory operations by restocking supplies, participating in peer teaching, and engaging in department or hospital committees and projects as assigned.
General Requirements:
- Laboratory experience and knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
- Strong computer skills with the ability to learn new systems and tools quickly.
- Must be comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment.
- Must possess a personal presence that is characterized by a sense of honesty, integrity, and caring, with the ability to inspire and motivate others to promote the philosophy, mission, vision, goals, and values of Trinity Health and MercyOne.
Education:
- High school diploma or GED required.
