Arizona is a year-round destination. Sunny skies and low humidity prevail 300 days a year across the state. As a Pharmacy Distribution Technician, you will work out of a warehouse. Your primary responsibility is fulfilling orders for hospitals, clinics, urgent cares and pharmacies for bulk medication orders, along with replenishing the bays with more product and rotating stock. You will purchase medication from vendors via direct orders as assigned by management and reconcile invoices against purchase orders. Forklift certification is required, the training will be provided through supply chain if you do not already have certification.
The schedule for this position is Monday - Friday 6:00 AM- 2:30 PM.

Clinical Pharmacy Services is responsible for the management of the Banner formulary, development of standardized system wide clinical pharmacy services, and management of adverse drug event preventions. Clinical Pharmacy Services provides collaborative drug therapy management and educational interventions in patient care to optimize medication therapy, improve outcomes, promote wellness, and disease prevention. As a division, Banner Pharmacy services provides excellent patient care across our entire continuum through convenient access, improved medication outcomes and innovative pharmacy practices.POSITION SUMMARY
This position is responsible for the accurate picking, packing, and shipping of medication and supply orders to the entire Banner Health system including but not limited to acute care, urgent care, clinics, and retail pharmacies, ensuring timely and precise order fulfillment. The role manages inventory maintenance and annual inventory coordination for departmental medications and supplies that will provide cost savings to the entire system as well as medication stock security. The position requires comprehensive knowledge of current medication usage patterns, handling of hazardous medications, and departmental requirements. Additional responsibilities include managing medication recalls, processing returns, reconciling invoices, coordinating the removal of expired inventory, and maintaining a clean and organized warehouse environment while maintaining compliance with all regulatory standards. Procurement duties may be assigned by management on an as-needed basis.
CORE FUNCTIONS
1. Picks, packs, and ships medication and supply orders to all facilities including acute care, urgent care, clinics, compounding and retail pharmacies. Ensures accurate order fulfillment, proper packaging, and timely delivery to meet facility needs. Operates forklift equipment safely and efficiently as needed (certification required within 30 days of hire).
2. Maintains warehouse cleanliness, organization, and safety standards. Performs routine cleaning tasks, organizes storage areas, ensures proper placement of inventory, and maintains clear pathways and work areas. Identifies and addresses safety hazards promptly with management.
3. Maintains optimal inventory levels through regular assessments and monitoring to support strategic supply resilience. Performs routine cycle counting to ensure inventory accuracy and identify discrepancies. Conducts scheduled counts of medications and supplies, documents findings, and resolves variances. Performs procurement activities as assigned by management, which may include submitting orders to local wholesalers and direct accounts when directed.
4. Reconciles received merchandise against invoices, codes invoices for payment processing, and handles invoice processing according to current Accounts Payable standards. Collaborates with vendor representatives to resolve billing issues.
5. Manages medication recall processes by removing affected medications from inventory, processing returns, and completing required documentation per recall notices. Maintains organized files and comprehensive documentation related to all medication recalls.
6. Coordinates the removal of expired and unusable items from inventory. Processes outdated and unusable medications through the designated returns company for reimbursement. Manages invoices and maintains detailed documentation for all returned medications.
7. Participates in all aspects of medication management, storage, and dispensing. Serves internal customers such as patients, nurses, licensed independent practitioners, nursing directors, department directors, administrators, and healthcare team members to integrate services, enhance patient care, and ensure effective communication. Works with management to resolve any customer service issues and provide dedicated excellent customer service.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Requires Pharmacy Technician licensure and active Pharmacy Technician certification.
Minimum of four years pharmacy technician experience.
Incumbents in Arizona are also required to provide the AZ Board of Pharmacy Wallet Card at time of hire.
Forklift certification must be obtained within 30 days of hire; internal training and testing will be provided during business hours.
Strong customer service focus, exceptional communication skills, strong attention to detail, prioritization capabilities, superior problem-solving skills, and ability to multi-task. Must demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills for interfacing with all levels of staff, physicians, patients, and other contacts.
Ability to complete moderate to difficult mathematical calculations using a hand-held calculator is required.
Ability to use multiple software packages on a personal computer and have a working knowledge of Medication Management Information System (MMIS).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Work experience which demonstrates analytical ability, judgment and interpersonal skills in pharmacy or healthcare preferred. Experience and proficiency with computer software applications (Word, Excel, Outlook) or comparable programs.
Additional related education and/or experience preferred.

Under the supervision of an RN preceptor, our nurse externs will have the chance to practice various skills, including: assessing patients, administering medications, adjusting IV pump rates or devices, parenteral fluids, blood products or IV flushes, initiating, titrating and discontinuing oxygen, and performing basic data collection in an EMR. In addition, our nurse externs will have the chance to practice any skill for which they have received didactic and clinical instruction for an can provide evidence of a skill checklist from an accredited nursing program. Throughout the program, our nursing externs are also able to spend time with the clinical case manager, observe procedures, or participate in other activities relevant to the patient population with which they are involved.
Banners goal when placing an RN Nurse Extern is after you Graduate and obtain your RN license that you continue as a New Grad in the same unit that you selected for your extern position. This is an amazing opportunity to grow and to obtain an amazing skill set even before receiving your RN license.
Requirements:

Unit Description:
4 South is a 40 bed unit offering care to a wide variety of patients. Our patient population includes post-surgical and medical patients with multiple comorbidities. BUMCS is connected to the Behavioral Health Pavilion so we care for psych patients who require medical treatment as well. RNs in this space will truly learn something new each day and be a part of a close nit interdisciplinary team. 4 South prides itself on promoting a positive work culture, teamwork, and work life balance. In addition, BUMCS is currently working toward Magnet, Level 3 Trauma, and Primary Stroke designation. One unique aspect of working on 4 South is the mixture of new grad and experienced RNs which provides great support for new team members.
Banner - University Medical Center South is a comprehensive academic medical center that includes an Emergency department, a state-designated trauma center and a Behavioral Health Pavilion. We are an Arizona Department of Health Services-accredited Cardiac Receiving Center and a Nurses Improving Care for Health system Elders-designated senior-friendly hospital. The hospital is staffed by physicians who are full-time faculty of the University of Arizona College of Medicine - Tucson and is managed by Banner Health under an operating agreement with Pima County. Our specialty services include inpatient and outpatient behavioral health, treatment and education for diabetes, innovative geriatrics care and comprehensive orthopedics.POSITION SUMMARY
This positioin, under the direct supervision of a licensed professional registered nurse, will allow the nursing student within one year from graduation with a Bachelor’s or Associate Degree in Nursing prior to passing State Boards, the ability to expand their clinical experience while working through standard Nurse Extern competency assessment on a wide variety of patient care activities, which include classroom training, participation in patient care planning, implementation, observation and evaluation, as well as identification/reporting significant observations. The unlicensed Nurse Extern role is not a permanent position. Employment will be impacted based on criteria outlined in the Nurse Program policy.
CORE FUNCTIONS
1. The unlicensed Nurse Extern must always be under the direct supervision of a designated licensed professional registered nurse.
2. Provides direct nursing care including attending to client’s comfort needs and other nursing skills/procedures for which they have received didactic & clinical instruction in their program, as well as their competency established and witnessed under the direct supervision of a licensed professional registered nurse.
3. Assists in the assessment, planning, diagnosis, implementation, evaluation and nursing care under direct supervision of a licensed professional registered nurse.
4. Must be able to use critical thinking and problem-solving skills and analyze complex data in order to identify and report patient status to a licensed professional registered nurse
5. Collaborates with other disciplines in the planning, implementation, evaluation and modification of nursing care under the direct supervisor of a licensed professional registered nurse.
6. Follows safety standards, adheres to compliance education/training, and performs all functions according to established policies/procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements as well as applicable professional standards in all aspects of performance, while demonstrating Banner’s core behaviors in order to deliver an excellent service experience.
7. May not perform any skill independently or without direct supervision of the licensed professional registered nurse. Interacts with all levels of staff in a variety of departments: physicians, patients, families and external contacts, such as employees of other health care institutions, community providers and agencies, concerning the health care of the patient. Performs specific duties related to the assigned nursing unit under direct supervision of the licensed professional registered nurse & within the approved polices of the facility in which they are employed. Interacts with other health care providers in numerous settings in order to report and ask for or clarify information. The unlicensed Nurse Extern can continue to perform routine, repetitive nursing activities within the essential functions of the Nurse Extern role that require no nursing judgement while pending transfer into the RN New Graduate role. The unlicensed Nurse Extern must always be under the direct supervision of a designated licensed professional registered nurse.

Under the supervision of an RN preceptor, our nurse externs will have the chance to practice various skills, including: assessing patients, administering medications, adjusting IV pump rates or devices, parenteral fluids, blood products or IV flushes, initiating, titrating and discontinuing oxygen, and performing basic data collection in an EMR. In addition, our nurse externs will have the chance to practice any skill for which they have received didactic and clinical instruction for an can provide evidence of a skill checklist from an accredited nursing program. Throughout the program, our nursing externs are also able to spend time with the clinical case manager, observe procedures, or participate in other activities relevant to the patient population with which they are involved.

POSITION SUMMARY
This position administers athletic training services in a community or clinic setting under the supervision of a supervising physician. They also have the capability of providing support to Orthopedic Surgeons or Sports Medicine Physicians through duties as an Athletic Trainer in the physician practice. These services include, but are not limited to, school screenings, injury prevention programs, athletic consults, injury assessment, and treatment and case management of injured athletes/clients undergoing rehabilitation. May perform first and second assist functions during procedures and surgeries under direct supervision of a surgeon if candidate possesses current NBCOT certification or is currently training for the OTC license. Knowledge of all operating room aseptic techniques, including setting up proper draping and surgical fields. Positions and prepares patient for various orthopedic surgical procedures in operating room including fracture table setup, patient positioning, and specialized orthopedic instrumentation.
5. May apply, adjust and remove casts, splints, immobilization devices and traction under physician direction. Removes sutures, staples, pins and wires. Changes dressings and cares for wounds. Measures and fits patients for braces and other orthopedic devices. Educates patients about various orthopedic conditions.
6. May assist physician in reduction of fractures and dislocations. Assists with and performs the removal of orthopedic hardware and wound closure. Able to interpret most types of orthopedic fractures and dislocations on x-ray films.
7. Implements individualized therapeutic interventions, and monitors responses to therapy to ensure client safety. This position is responsible for supervising the day-to-day operation of the security central dispatch function; is responsible for receiving incoming phone, radio and multiple alarm system inputs, while at the same time handling requests for service or assistance. CORE FUNCTIONS
1. Keeps current on multiple alarm system computer operations and software updates. Trains staff and determines competency on changes in software programs and updates. Monitors and responds to the Central Station Computer, which receives all robbery, burglary, fire and medical alert alarms, dispatching fire, police, ambulance and security. Is responsible for adding all new account information.
2. Maintains software for system-wide access system. Maintains current software, alarm point inputs and system override procedures.
3. Oversees dispatch of emergent and non-emergent security traffic for assigned areas. Ensures monitoring of all emergency phones, including parking lot call boxes, elevators and after hours telephones in all assigned locations. Oversees monitoring of security cameras in assigned locations.
4. Organizes, directs, staffs, coordinates and schedules the work activities of department; maintains current education and training records of staff; assists with writing department policies and procedures, especially those dealing with the dispatching function and communication. Follows instructions and safety procedures to help ensure that a safe environment is maintained.
5. Assists and oversees the orienting of all new full time and temporary staff, ensuring competencies are met; assists with the initial investigation into employee performance issues and works with the department manager to implement positive solutions. Completes and documents performance evaluations for staff; works with staff on action plans to improve work performance. Acts as a role model, mentor and leader.
6. Proficient in ability to assess and prioritize emergency situations as they arise and coordinate requested resources to handle any situation. Mentors and directs others towards independence in making decisions based on severity of situation. Internal customers include all employees, patients and family, physicians. External customers include campus visitors, vendors and law enforcement agency representatives.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge.
One year of successful supervisory or lead experience is required. Two years previous dispatching experience with an excellent working knowledge of radio communication equipment. Must have the ability to exercise good independent judgment and successfully function and prioritize tasks during emergency situations. Effective human relation skills are required for interfacing with all levels of staff, clients, physicians and other professional contacts. Must be able to work under minimal supervision, possess good self-motivational and organization skills, and compile quality statistical reports. Must be able to communicate effectively. POSITION SUMMARY
This position provides a variety of administrative and clinical support functions which contribute to the overall efficient operation of the clinic and serves as part of the care team. 6. Optimizes patient flow by using effective customer service communication skills utilizing kindness, tact and courtesy to ensure positive patient response to service. Identifies training needs for medical and coding staff. Provides written updates and spreadsheets as to data findings. Serves as a team member for internal coding accuracy audits.
4. Acts as a knowledge resource to Physician Practice Operations, clinical departments and revenue integrity teams regarding charge related issues, processes and programming. 7. Serves as a resource for designing, testing and implementing workflows, including upstream and downstream effects in the revenue cycle process. Works with multiple teams within the organization, including Registration, EDI, Revenue Integrity, Clinical Informatics, and Coding Education.

This position performs as an integral part of the OR team with limited supervision. Demonstrates accountability for operating room readiness ensuring sterile surgical instrumentation and disposable supplies are complete and ready for a procedure prior to the preceding patient leaving the operating room. Responsible for the proper care and handling of all general and specialty instrumentation including the cleaning, decontamination, disassemble/reassembly, quality assurance, instrument identification, set assembly, packaging, sterilization, and distribution of surgical instrumentation for PeriOp Services, hospital departments, and clinics. CORE FUNCTIONS
1. Provides decontamination and sterile processing support to PeriOp Services, ED, ICU, hospital wide departments, and clinics both on and off campus, and ambulatory surgery centers. Provides various levels of service for the management of sterile surgical instrumentation and disposable patient care supplies. Support may-or-may-not include, decontamination of surgical instruments, assembly/sterilization, sterile instrument storage, partial or complete case cart support, OR core tech support and high-level disinfection.
2. Responsible for the decontamination, assembly, and packaging of surgical instruments following established protocols, instructions for use (IFU) as well as performs required quality assurance, repairs, reassembly, documentation, sterility handling, and storage of specialized surgical instruments. Maintains required sterilization logs and quality assurance records relating to all equipment associated for the purpose of decontamination, HLD disinfection, and sterilization.
3. Ability to identify interpret the surgical schedule and medical terminology as it pertains to procedures requiring sterile surgical instrumentation and disposable supplies. Able to address and communicate special needs to minimize delays to surgery. Responds to emergent calls from the Operating Room and performs preliminary investigations. Determines priority level of instrumentation requests and other hospital needs. Directs services in a competent and professional manner while assuring OR priorities are completed in a timely manner
4. Able to differentiate surgical instrumentation that is surgery owned, consignment/loaner, hospital depart, surgeon, ambulatory surgery center, and clinics both on and off campus. Completes necessary tracking of surgical instruments with a paper log sheet or computer process for instrumentation leaving the area. Reports needed replacement of surgical instruments to maintain the inventory and support readiness of sets.
5. Utilizes specialized equipment for the decontamination, high-level disinfection, and sterilization of surgical instrumentation according to the device and equipment manufacturer’s recommendations and hospital policy. Operates steam and hydrogen peroxide sterilizers of various sizes. Operates automated surgical instrument washers, ultrasonics, flush pumps, visualization devices, and cart washers to include high-level disinfectors where supported.
6. Operates various quality assurance testing equipment associated to flexible endoscopic scopes, transesophageal ultrasound probes, and electro-surgical insulation defect detector for laparoscopic and energy provided surgical instrumentation. Utilizes heat detection devices to allow steam sterilized surgical instrumentation to be released for use without risking burns to staff and patients. Operates demagnetizers of stainless-steel instruments for ophthalmic and delicate cardiac surgical instrumentation for safe use on patients. Utilizes various borescope devices to inspect inner channels of lumened surgical instrumentation and flexible scopes.
7. Maintains a clean and safe environment by adhering to Standard Precautions and Infection Control practices. Staff follow protocols for proper donning of personnel protective equipment (PPE) while completing the decontamination process referencing IFU’s supplied by the manufacturers.
8. Maintain flexibility to rotate shifts and adjust hours as needed, maintain a work record of regular attendance, timely arrivals, and departures, maintain professional appearance appropriate to position and function.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Ensures the proper use of garbing and compounding techniques in accordance with policies and has knowledge of basic principles within USP <797> and USP<800>, laws, policies, and procedures that pertain to compounding. Performs compounding and labeling of intravenous compounds and hazardous agents to include chemotherapy using proper sterile and aseptic technique as appropriate to the site of care. Understands the different product lines in sterile compounding (patient specific and non-patient specific batch) and the differences between the various populations (Adult, Pediatric, Neonate). Completes all required environmental cleaning procedures. Documents all required tasks and other information per policy. Understands the safe handling of hazardous drugs and demonstrated the correct receipt, storage, labelling and transport process.
8. Handles narcotic medications following all federal and legal requirements as set through policy and procedure. Understands all regulatory requirements for receiving, compounding, repackaging, and distribution for controlled substances. Consistently adheres to all storage and inventory movement documentation requirements for controlled substances.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Requires Pharmacy Technician licensure and active Pharmacy Technician certification OR Pharmacy Intern licensure in the state of practice.
Incumbents in Arizona are also required to provide the AZ Board of Pharmacy Wallet Card at time of hire.
Minimum of two years pharmacy technician experience. Ability to complete moderate to difficult mathematical calculations using a hand-held calculator is required. This position will work under the supervision of the pharmacist performing routine duties in packaging, distribution, non-sterile compounding, and record-keeping of pharmaceutical supplies. Serves as a liaison between the customer and the pharmacist. Becomes proficient in preparing compounded intravenous medications, total parenteral nutrition products, and chemotherapeutic agents within compliance with USP regulations. Effectively uses pharmacy computer systems to investigate and respond to missing medication requests. Consistently demonstrates an ability to assess a situation, consider alternatives, and choose the appropriate course of action. May educate and train peer Pharmacy Technicians, Technician Externs, Technician Trainees, and volunteers. Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients.
CORE FUNCTIONS
1. Identifies medications and other items for reorder as necessary to maintain a continuous inventory of medications and supplies. Receives, checks-in, and restocks medications ordered through the wholesaler and other vendors verifying all quantities against invoices. Assesses practical ways to deal with shorted items and short-dated or unusable items.
2. Manages users within the automated dispensing technology database as per policy. Investigates discrepancies and troubleshoots malfunctions in automated dispensing technology.
3. Exhibits excellent interpersonal skills and is customer service oriented in all contacts with patients, visitors and staff. Responds to standard requests from internal customers. Interacts primarily with department personnel, cross-department personnel, internal customers, patients and physicians.
4. May use automated dispensing technology or requisition to restock medications to nursing and ancillary areas after checking by a pharmacist. When allowed by law and policy, and upon completion of proper training/competency assessment, may restock automated dispensing technology using barcode scanning verification devices. Restocks medications to all areas outside automated dispensing technology which may include but not limited to trays, code carts and emergency boxes.
5. Compounds non-sterile medication products. Understands and appropriately follows all product worksheets/recipes for documentation and check processes. Understands and adheres to all applicable USP compounding guidelines. Demonstrates knowledge of and consistently performs calibrations of equipment and accurately measures components for compounding. Repackages bulk medications into unit of use packaging. Completes accurate documentation of medications compounded and repackaged per policy.
6. Maintains a safe and clean working environment by complying with all policies, laws, and regulations. Performs quality control activities such as monthly nursing unit inspections and pharmacy section checks in a timely manner. Completes documentation of refrigerator temperatures, and equipment maintenance activities as required.
7. Handles narcotic medications following all federal and legal requirements as set through policy and procedure. Understands all regulatory requirements for receiving, compounding, repackaging, and distribution for controlled substances. Consistently adheres to all storage and inventory movement documentation requirements for controlled substances.
8. Becomes proficient in performing compounding and labeling of intravenous non-hazardous compounds using proper sterile and aseptic technique as appropriate to the site of care. Understands the different product lines in sterile populations (adult, pediatric, and neonate). Completes all required environmental cleaning procedures. Documents all required tasks and other information per policy.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Requires Pharmacy Technician licensure and active Pharmacy Technician certification OR Pharmacy Intern licensure in the state of practice.
Incumbents in Arizona are also required to provide the AZ Board of Pharmacy Wallet Card at time of hire.
Ability to complete moderate to difficult mathematical calculations using a hand-held calculator is required. Strong customer service focus, exceptional communication skills, strong attention to detail, prioritization capabilities, superior problem-solving skills, and ability to multi-task. Must have knowledge of computer software, particularly medication management information system software, Microsoft applications and automated dispensing systems. The Transplant Progressive Care Unit at Banner University Medical Center is supported by a strong multi-disciplinary team which includes: social workers, nutritionists, case managers, transplant coordinators, pharmacists, therapists, chaplains, and physicians: nephrologists, hepatologists, surgeons, hospitalists and the medical teaching staff. 3. Recognizes and reports abnormalities and/or changes in the patient’s health status and responses to treatment to a licensed professional. Promotes continuity of care by accurately and completely communicating to other caregivers the status of patients for which care is provided.
4. Performs procedures and uses equipment as delegated by a licensed professional, consistent with demonstrated competencies and according to state scope of practice. Procedures may include blood draws, foley catheter removal, IV removal, EKGs and Health Unit Coordinator duties. Provides necessary supplies, support and assistance to clinical staff and patients for procedures, under the direct supervision of a licensed professional.
5. Performs receptionist/clerical duties to support overall operating efficiency and effective flow of communication and information throughout the department. Participates in the resolution of customer problems or collects necessary data and follows through to appropriate person for problem resolution.
6. Maintains adequate levels of office, dietary, and medical supplies and completes requisition forms when supplies need to be ordered. Reconciles supply order upon delivery. Monitors and tracks the use and whereabouts of electronic equipment such as patient ID scanners and lap top computers. Ensures that all are accounted for and in working order.
7. Based on area of assignment may assist with transporting patients, including pre-operative and immediate post-operative patients to critical care unit. Participates in room turnover.
8. Supports a fast-paced environment with a strong focus on customer service. Interacts with staff at all levels, as well as patients, families, and physicians.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge.
Current BLS certification is required.
Must possess excellent organizational skills, as well as effective human relations and communication skills.
Computer literacy and keyboarding skills are required. In California: advanced skills are excluded.
BSS team members must have 12 months Banner experience in the role.
Employees working at Banner Behavioral Health Hospital, BTMC Behavioral or BUMG, BUMCT in a Behavioral Health clinical setting that serves children must possess an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card at the time of hire and maintain the card for the duration of their employment. An Arizona Criminal History Affidavit must be signed upon hire. Employees working for Banner Home Care AZ must possess an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card at the time of hire and maintain the card for the duration of their employment. Employees working at BUMCS in a Behavioral Health clinical setting must possess an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card at the time of hire and maintain the card for the duration of their employment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Recent healthcare experience preferred. Working knowledge of medical terminology is preferred.
Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
