MCC Rx ServicesJob Summary:
Performs tasks within the pharmacy in direct support of the ongoing duties and responsibilities of a pharmacist with occasional guidance. Tasks performed contribute directly to the preparation and/or dispensing of a final dosage form for administration to a patient and are directly supervised by a pharmacist. Provides customer service by answering phone requests and triaging calls to the appropriate person if they cannot answer the requested information. Applies departmental processes regarding inventory control..
Position Highlights
- Outpatient pediatric pharmacy at Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt.
- Must be actively enrolled in a school of pharmacy in order to be considered.
- Only P1 and P2 students will be considered.
- Start date will be in November/early December based on availability.
- Every 4th weekend both Saturday and Sunday within the hours of 7:00am and 11:00pm.
- Weekly 4-9 or 5-9 pm shift covering the pharmacy and meds to beds for the PACU.
- 1 holiday/year assigned.
- Additional learning opportunities each year based on level of education/experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Assists the pharmacist in the preparation, dispensing and/or distribution of medications.
- Applies departmental processes regarding inventory control.
- Performs activities as directed by Pharmacists and/or Pharmacy
- Managers in accordance with federal, state and local laws/regulations and hospital policies.
- Delivers outstanding customer service to both internal and external customers.
- Operates computer systems and utilizes technology.

Technical Capabilities
- Pharmaceutical Drug Preparation, Dispensing & Distribution (Novice): Possesses sufficient fundamental proficiency to successfully review, prepare, dispense and distribute prescribed medications. Where applicable, this includes being proficient in the general principles and techniques of asepsis utilized to compound sterile preparations (CSPs) to minimize the risk of contamination.
- Pharmaceutical Quality Assurance & Compliance (Novice): Demonstrates working knowledge of the appropriate rules and regulations as they apply to the department and work areas. Maintains current understanding of rules and regulations and facilitates processes that support the application of various rules and regulations. Demonstrates knowledge of process improvement, quality assurance and/or programs. Understands the principles upon which the rules and regulations are based. Demonstrates a commitment to continuous quality improvement and supports compliance with a federal, state and local regulations as well as organizational policies and procedures.
- Pharmaceutical Computer Literacy (Fundamental Awareness): Has demonstrated a basic understanding of computers or has successfully completed training for applications that are used to support medication use processes.
- Drug Inventory & Records Management (Fundamental Awareness): Has general experience working with drug inventory and records management. Demonstrates ability to maintain appropriate inventory levels of medications. Able to collect, organize, and maintain appropriate pharmacy and patient related information.

SHIFT: This position is a RN - Shift Leader - Night Shift (7p – 7a) - with a minimum of 4 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule.

VUMC Perioperative Services is a dynamic department with over 1000 employees, 65 adult operating rooms in addition to 19 pediatric operating rooms in Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt and 14 ambulatory operating suites across three surgery centers.

Key Responsibilities:
Performs patient check-in procedure and updates patient information as necessary in registration system.
When applicable, places generic manual orders and sends to Specimen Receiving or to the Patient Service Specialist for accessioning.
Instructs patients on proper collection of urine, stool, sputum and saliva specimens, and provides appropriate collection supplies.
Administers oral solutions for glucose tolerance testing according to established training and identifies the best method for retrieving blood samples and other specimens.
Demonstrates Credo behaviors in all interactions including explaining blood draw procedures to patients, answering any questions about the process and assisting patients, co-workers and internal customers as appropriate
Verifies patient identification with two identifiers both before and after venipuncture, labeling tubes immediately following the venipuncture in front of the patient.
Maintains specimen integrity by using aseptic technique, following department procedures and obtains blood specimens by performing venipunctures and capillary sticks according to age specific guidelines.
Processes specimens to prepare them for laboratory testing, to include centrifuging and aliquoting of blood samples. Packages and stores specimens appropriately for transport using guidance from lab test directories.
Takes responsibility for safety checks, supply management and assists with training. preceptor to students and new hires.

We care for adult patients ranging in age from 18 and older who are being treated for multiple medical conditions often associated with the additional stressors of being under-resourced, homeless, or with addiction issues.
Our patients are unique because we have created a medical home incorporating an interdisciplinary team that collaboratively works to improve health, reduce the dependence of emergency rooms as a primary source of care, and reduce hospital admissions.
Shift
This is a full-time night shift position. The shift is 7:00pm - 7:00am, three times per week for a total of 36 hours per week, including some weekends
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Collaborates in establishing the plan of care, coordinates and implements care delivery while anticipating patient care needs across the continuum.

Night Shift: 6:45 PM - 7:15 AM
- PRN staff are required to work a minimum of four 12-hour shifts every six weeks; however, candidates may be required to commit to a full-time orientation period (two/three 12-hour shifts per week) for the first 4 weeks of employment.
- All employees, including Night Shift and PRN staff, must attend daytime orientation during their first week
Qualifications
Required
High School Diploma/GED (or equivalent experience) and one of the following:
- Current enrollment in an RN program with successful completion of the first semester and nursing fundamentals clinical
- Graduation from a Nursing Assistant/Aide Training Program within the past year (certificate required)

In your pivotal role as a Scientific Research Project Manager, you will manage healthcare research projects and analyses for evidence-based clinical initiatives under occasional guidance. Demonstrates sufficient acumen to recognize problems, ask questions and to contact the patient's primary care provider and other members of the healthcare team. Has experience in gathering pertinent clinical data that aid in referral, treatment, or other primary care pathways.
