SUMMARY
The Physical Therapist reports directly to the Clinical Manager and/or Assistant Clinical Manager (ACM) of their respective department and may receive clinical guidance from senior staff and/or clinical specialists.
The Physical Therapist completes comprehensive examinations of body structure to determine functional impairments, activity limitations, and participation restrictions. The Physical Therapist establishes diagnosis and prognosis; develops an individualized plan of care; implements treatment interventions; and performs on-going evaluations throughout episode of care.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Communication
Demonstrates the highest level of communication and professionalism with patients, caregivers, rehabilitation staff, providers, and other health care professionals, both within the academic medical center and in the community.
Exhibits effective and professional verbal and non-verbal communication
Communicates clearly, respectfully, and honestly with patients and/or caregivers, and colleagues

Principal Duties
Examines and evaluates patients
Establishes diagnosis, prognosis, and individualized plans of care
Implements treatment intervention based on plan of care, considering precautions, indications, and contradictions
Directs and coordinates patients’ rehabilitation plan of care
Evaluates patients’ progress and revises goals and plan of care accordingly
Educates/Trains patients/caregivers
Anticipates and communicates discharge/home needs and resources
Completes documentation and charges accurately and timely, in compliance with department policy
Completes clinical documentation reflecting eligibility/medical necessity of services in compliance with professional and regulatory standards
Makes recommendations and referrals for additional diagnostic testing and/or services
Consistently applies evidence-based practice to all aspects of clinical care
Seeks additional guidance when necessary to assure safe and effective patient care
Additional Duties
Complies with hospital and departmental policies and guidelines
Participates in strategic departmental quality improvement initiatives
Provides education to other hospital departments/personnel, students, and outside agencies/schools
Demonstrates ability to flex schedule based on department, patient, and/or caregiver need

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
BASIC KNOWLEDGE
Bachelor’s degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited institution is required. Master or Doctorate level degree in Physical Therapy is preferred.
State license issued by the Rhode Island Department of Health is required.
EXPERIENCE
New graduates will be considered. Clinical experience in program specific settings is preferred.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
No direct supervision. However, pursuant to the state of Rhode Island Rules and Regulations for Licensing Physical Therapists, a licensed physical therapist shall at all times be responsible for the supervision of physical therapist assistants, supportive personnel, and students to ensure the safety and welfare of patients.
Provides consistent and thorough supervision of assistants, aides, therapists, and volunteers including cosigning notes, reviewing patient treatment plans and goals.

PURPOSE
Supplemental staffing position to ensure continuous high-quality patient care through the effective use of per diem labor, and to define the requirements, responsibilities, and expectations of per diem Nursing employees.
ELIGIBILITY
All non-union facilities MA and RI.
Minimum of two-year, full-time experience.
OVERVIEW
Supplemental Staffing: Per-diem employees are used to cover staffing gaps due to absences, vacancies, or increased census, but are not guaranteed hours.
Weekend Hours: The Weekend Differential Zone starts at 11:00 PM on Friday and ends at 11:00 PM on Sunday. To qualify for the weekend premium there must be at least 2 hours in the zone.
GUIDELINES
Scheduling Process:
- After the 4-week schedule (graph) is completed, per diem shift needs are posted in Kronos.
- Per-diem staff are expected to self-schedule via Kronos Advanced Scheduling or contact their manager in areas using Basic Scheduling.
Monthly Commitment:
- Minimum of 24 worked hours per 4-week schedule, working 12 hour shifts.
- At least 12 of these hours must be night shifts (eligible for differential).
- At least 12 of these hours must be weekend hours, if available.
- If they work a 12 hour shift on the weekend at night it will meet the commitment requirement.
Holiday Commitment:
- One winter holiday: Thanksgiving, Christmas, or New Year's
- One other holiday: MLK Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, or Labor Day
- Shifts canceled by the hospital will still count toward holiday commitments.
Cross Department Requirements:
- Per diem scheduling obligations must be met on the employees’ home unit before working in other units.
Failure to Meet Requirements:
- May result in corrective action or status review.
Canceled Shifts:
- Shifts canceled by management will count toward scheduling minimums.
- Working a shift to cover another employee does not count toward required hours.
STATUS CHANGE TO PER DIEM
- Must be approved by the current director/manager.
- Manager of record remains the same unless transferred to a new department.
- If working in multiple roles, dual job codes must be established with HR.
COMPENSATION
Per diem rates $60.00 RN. Eligible for shift differentials according to Brown Health Pay Practice and Eligibility Rules.

Job Description:
Full-time position working for Brown Health Medical Group, 15 LaSalle Square, Providence, RI, providing services at Rhode Island Hospital, The Miriam Hospital and Women & Infants Hospital in Providence, RI. Position specializes in the treatment of Movement Disorders. Movement disorders are a group of neurological conditions that cause abnormal movements such as increased movement (like spasms, jerking or shaking) and/or decreased or slow movement, and include conditions such as Parkinson’s Disease, dystonia, and tremors. Position will also assist with the clinical training of Brown University medical students, residents, and fellows at Rhode Island Hospital, and related administrative duties. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides direct patient care.
Provides leadership by delegating, supervising and participating in safe nursing care activities provided by ancillary personnel.
Evaluates effectiveness of patient care and identifies opportunities for improvement.
Collaborates with the healthcare team, patient, family and community services regarding the patient care outcome/discharge planning.
Assesses and Provides appropriate teaching based on patient and family needs.
Participates in unit-based quality improvement and research activities.
Utilizes all available resources to provide quality, cost effective patient care.
Meets and maintains clinical competencies measured by pre-determined credentialing standards, mandatory/safety education, and completion of Basic Life Support and ACLS/PALS as appropriate.
Identifies growth needs and Participates in educational opportunities and professional organizations.
Serves as a role model/preceptor to new graduate nurses and less experienced personnel.
Assumes charge nurse responsibility for the patient care unit as delegated.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Licensure as Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island by the Rhode Island Board of Nursing or licensure as a Registered Nurse in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact agreement of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing.
BASIC KNOWLEDGE:
Baccalaureate in Nursing preferred.
Must have current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island.
Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span, with consideration of aging processes, human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Visual and aural ability to monitor patient status.
Physical ability to assist in lifting and positioning patients.
Exposed to patient care environment.
Physical ability for extensive walking and standing; lifting, positioning, and pushing patients on stretchers.

SUMMARY: Transports child, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients to and from all areas/departments requiring patient transport, using wheelchairs and stretchers. The core Success Factors include: Instill Trust and Value Differences Patient and Community Focus and Collaborate RESPONSIBILITIES: Maintains current CPR certification.Participates in departmental and/or interdepartmental quality improvement activities.Utilizes SBAR hand-off report sheet when transporting patients from unit to unit.Informs nursing staff of the patient leaving the nursing unit and confirms mode of transportation.Obtains the patient’s chart from the nursing units for those procedures where appropriate.Greets patient, verifies patient’s identification (name & date of birth) and checks patient Identiband.Informs the patient of where he/she is being transported.Assists the patients into wheelchairs or onto stretchers, utilizing appropriate equipment to meet individual and age specific needs- Child - Transports with assistance, utilizing crib- Adolescent, adult, geriatricAssures the patients are properly dressed in hospital gowns for test and/or procedures prior to leaving the nursing units.Returns the patient to room following completion of procedure or examination, informing appropriate staff.Informs nursing personnel immediately of any change in the patient’s condition.Demonstrates use of hospital approved paging system. Responds to pages in a timely manner.Responds to outlying areas for RRT or Code Blue with a stretcher.Makes and delivers special order food trays for patients on the evening shift.Monitors IV pumps to ensure proper operation and informs nursing personnel if not functioning properly.Handles urinary drainage bags properly while transporting patients.Assures adequate supply of oxygen during transport. Replaces filled oxygen tanks to units as needed.Checks wheelchairs and stretchers for maintenance issues and brings them to the Facilities work room. Cleans transport equipment after each use with hospital-approved environmental cleaner.Assists others with a difficult transport via smooth movers where lifting help is required.Assures that the patient’s side rails are raised on stretchers at all times.Assures the patient’s feet are placed securely on foot pedals when in wheelchairs.Transports patients to Outpatient areas (Borden-Carey, Wound Clinic, IV Therapy, etc.).Delivers reports, supplies, films, specimens, etc. throughout the hospital as requested. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Qualifications: Current CPR certification. Requires the ability to read, write and follow specific instruction.Physical Requirements: Must be able to sit 1-3 hours, stand and walk 3-7 hours per day, lift 25-50 lbs with good body mechanics, twist and bend infrequently with a workload capacity of 3-5 Mets (see chart). Must be able to use both hand/wrists and perform work with moderate deviation and occasional fine motor skills. Far and near vision must be accurate at 20/40, accurate depth perception, discriminate among red, green and white and hear a whisper at 8 feet.
Pay Range:
$18.00-$25.82
