EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree in Nursing required. Master's degree in Nursing, Health Care Management, or Business Administration required. Doctorate in Nursing (DNP/PhD) preferred, DNP preferred over PhD. Five years of experience in relevant nursing areas with management or supervisory experience in an academic medical center or tertiary hospital setting required. LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, and/or REGISTRATION: Current RN license in good standing in the State of applicable state. Certification in administration or clinical specialty within one year of hire ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Exemplifies the Wake Forest Baptist Health (WFBH) Values and Code of Conduct, while striving to identify compliance risk through department led risk assessments, system monitoring, and periodic audits, and reporting any identified violation to Legal Services and Corporate Compliance Departments. Ensures immediate action is taken on any issues identified through a self-assessment or by Legal Services or Corporate Compliance; that policies are developed or revised as necessary; and that efforts are made to ensure a positive and compliant work environment for all employees. 2. Demonstrates leadership in the areas of: Clinical Competence in specialty assigned Nursing practice standards Human Resources Financial Management Planning Directing Continuous quality improvement Institutional support and representation Customer service 3. Provides leadership in human resource development and management while acquiring and allocating human, material and financial resources for specific functions and processes. Collaborates with Human Resources Department on the recruitment and retention of staff in all reporting departments. Serves as a professional role model and mentor to motivate, develop, and recruit, and retain future nurse administrators and clinical leaders. 4. Accountable for the planning, development and implementation of an approved operational and capital budget. Identifies areas of need, determines feasibility, and makes appropriate recommendations in all operational areas. Fiscal management responsibilities include reviewing and planning goals for each department, facilitating the development and divisional goals, which are congruent with institutional goals. Ensures that procedures and controls are employed by each department and analyzes, develops and monitors corrective action plans to meet established fiscal goals. 5. In conjunction with the System CNE, entity CNO and Medical Directors, assists in the creation and development of long-range strategic plans and goals. Participates with the governing board, medical staff, and management to plan, promote, and conduct organization wide performance improvement activities. Participates in preparation and presentation of issues to the Board of Trustees, Medical Executive Committees and other entities as assigned. Reviews and evaluates the implications of proposed long- and short-term goals and strategic objectives. Responsible for the overall planning and development of clinical programs, the development and monitoring of standards, the quality assurance program, research, and educational activities. 6. Ensures direction and oversight of key functions and activities for designated departments, units, programs, procedural areas, and outpatient clinics. Provides leadership in critical thinking, conflict management, and problem solving. Facilitates the development of policies and procedures, which affect clinical practice, including collaboration with medical, administrative or department head colleagues, as appropriate, in the development and approval of such policies and procedures. Promotes and facilitates participation in Professional Governance for all areas in which nursing is practiced. 7. Provides continuous quality improvement with quality 'indicators' to initiate and drive organizational change in an evolving cycle of continuous improvement. Maintains compliance with hospital, regulatory, and Joint Commission guidelines and adherence to quality improvement standards in effective patient care. 8. Builds and maintains collaborative partnerships both within and outside the institution. Such relationships include other CNOs, Directors of Nursing, medical staff, hospital administrative staff and department heads, community health and education agencies, and other agencies relating to health care on a local, state and national basis. Partners with Finance and other operating groups to facilitate the smooth delivery of key deliverables. May serve on a number of standing committees and councils. 9. Participates in planning, monitoring, and evaluating efforts to improve patient satisfaction/patient perception of care. 10. Functions as a professional manager of resources and environment, as well as a facilitator of the clinical practice of nursing and operation. Responsible for all aspects of nursing and clinical care. 11. Demonstrates organizational commitment, ethical and professional behavior by serving as a role model for hospital values to staff, physicians and patients. Maintains appropriate confidentiality of privileged information. Participates in activities to promote professional growth and development. Unit 3CD has 23 bed specializing in the post-operative care of urology, colorectal, vascular, GYN and plastics. Most admissions come from PACU.They give you the tools to work as an ICU step down. Where You Will Work:
3CD is a 23 bed post-op surgical unit with 15 beds for Tele Patients. 75% of patients are admitted from PACU or as stepdown from Surgical ICU. This is a fast-paced, high acuity surgical unit specializing in Gastroenterology, Urology, Gynecology, and Plastic Surgery populations. This is a great unit for experienced Med-Surg nurses seeking to advance their skills and grow in their practice. It is also a great foundational unit for new graduate nurses who seek to eventually develop into more advanced clinical settings, such as ICU, ED, OR, and NP. We are a strong performing inpatient unit as measured by their Nurse Sensitive Indicators and Patient Experience scores. 3CD team members are committed to excellent clinical practice and patient outcomes. - Operates specialized ventilators in critical and non-critical care venues. Assists physician with bedside or other procedures as applicable to facility.
- Provides medication treatments and therapies per physician order and/or patient driven respiratory protocols as prescribed.
- Cleans, maintains, and ensures proper functionality of equipment. Troubleshoots equipment as necessary and identifies the need for service and/or repair.
- Educates and instructs patients in purpose, technique, self-care, goal of therapy, and disease management.
- Facilitates clinical problem solving and collaborates with other departments to provide education on managing patients.
- Under physician direction, the respiratory therapist must be able to adapt and comply to policies and procedures for a variety of different service areas, perform tasks and/or special duties as required by assignment and maintain performance standards and organizational behaviors.

Major Responsibilities:
- Uses Respiratory therapy processes to support assessment of patient utilizing a variety of skills such as pulmonary diagnostics, chest radiograph, hemodynamic values, laboratory values, and correlates blood gases and electrolytes. Can identify and address the special needs of patient population specific to department services.
- Operates specialized ventilators in critical and non-critical care venues. Assists physician with bedside or other procedures as applicable to facility.
- Provides medication treatments and therapies per physician order and/or patient driven respiratory protocols as prescribed.
- Cleans, maintains, and ensures proper functionality of equipment. Troubleshoots equipment as necessary and identifies the need for service and/or repair.

- Receives soiled and contaminated items in decontamination area. Sorts equipment, rinses as needed, places equipment through sonic tanks and washers, reassembles trays, performs safety checks, hangs and sorts instruments, wraps sets according to set policy, and wraps towels and basins appropriately.
- Sterilizes instruments and equipment using the aerator, gas sterilizer or steam sterilizer and operates glass dryer. Packages items in steri/peel as required. Performs quality assurance testing for all methods of sterilization to ensure sterility of supplies. Hand cleans miscellaneous instruments (Baxter pump, hypothermo units, etc.) and operates the cart cleaner.
- Ensures proper care and handling of high cost instrumentation and equipment to include items requiring special handling, laser instrumentation, orthopedic implants, cardiac assist devices, endoscopic and microscopic instrumentation.
- May build case carts according to procedure and physician preference as specified. File case cart sheets and requisitions, responds to Code 4s with defibrillator and back up supplies, maintains CPR annies, tests autoclaves with the tests according to procedure, and changes graphs as necessary.
- Checks incoming trays and follows up with departments as to missing instruments or parts.
- Takes immediate and appropriate action if a question of sterilizer failure occurs.
- Receives and records orders for supplies as requested by departments. Records accurate product number and assures all forms are correctly completed for proper billing. Marks, dates and stocks equipment, which may include returning to appropriate department on a timely basis.
- Opens and unpacks supply boxes, checking for damaged goods and number of items received. Reports any discrepancies to the supervisor. Performs credits for unused products returned, checks stock levels, copies supply sheets, checks carts for outdated supplies, and performs general cleaning of shelves.

Establishes a plan of care and implements individual treatment based on evaluation results and functional goals and by utilizing appropriate techniques. Monitors and evaluates outcomes and appropriately adjusts the individualized treatment plan based on the patient's response to treatment and provides status updates to physicians and other teammates. Develops a relationship with patient and their primary care physician to facilitate and/or navigate through a cancer diagnosis, subsequent treatment and follow-up to reflect continuity of care. Personalizes the approach to patients with cancer to maximize service management.
- Completes a nursing assessment with a focus on disease site which has program accountability and identifies the patient's individualized needs. Integrates with other departments and disciplines to develop plan of care. Provides evidence-based practice in the role as cancer care coordinator.
- Guides patients with suspected cancer through the diagnostic phase. Tracks the testing and diagnostic reports through the system to ensure timeliness. Provides biopsy procedure follow-up phone calls as needed.
- Communicates necessary information and collaborates with physicians/office staffs, hospital departments/staff, health care providers, other disciplines and community agencies regarding the patient diagnosed with cancer.
- Refers patients to appropriate resources (i.e., Financial Counseling, cancer counseling center services, clinical trials nurse for research programs). Acts as advocate for patients with cancer. Maintains contact with patients requiring ongoing support as necessary. Identifies patients with compromised coping skills or lack of social support. Facilitates support group for patient with cancer and family members/significant others.
- Collaborates with other caregivers to develop optimal systems, which achieve the most effective patient/family outcomes. Provides in-services and education offerings to staff. Assists leadership in the interview process and with orientation and training of staff, student nurses, etc.
- Counsels and educates patients and their family members on issues of prevention and the early detection of other cancers in which they might be of risk. Evaluates and selects or designs patient education materials on specific disease site programs.

Pay Range:
$38.20 - $57.30Major Responsibilities:
- Engages in unit councils, professional governance, and quality initiatives to improve care processes and apply evidence-based practices.
- Utilizes the nursing process to assess, plan, diagnose, implement, and evaluate nursing care, engaging patients and families through the continuum of care.
- Monitors patient conditions, adjusts care plans, mobilizes resources, and collaborates with the care team to influence care outcomes.
- Upholds and promotes a culture of safety.
- Continuously evaluates patient, team, and unit outcomes, taking action as needed.
- May administer medications, treatments, and therapies safely and according to clinical protocols and procedures.
- Demonstrates effective communication, feedback, and conflict resolution, fostering team collaboration and appropriate delegation.
- Pursues professional development, completes required education, and maintains certifications.
- Adhere to the ANA Code of Ethics and practices ethical decision-making, respects interdisciplinary roles, and contributes to integrated, unbiased patient care.
- Appropriate delegation to other Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, and unlicensed assistive personnel (i.e., nurse aides, credentialed medical assistants, etc.).
- Maintains accurate, timely EHR documentation.
- May be required to float to other units, departments, care areas, or facilities within the designated service area to meet patient care needs.
- Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures. Minimum Job Requirements
Education
Graduate of a Board of Nursing approved nursing education program.
Certification / Registration / License
- Basic Life Support (BLS). Additional education, training, certifications, or experience may be required based on specialty.
- Active registered nurse (RN) multi-state compact and/or single-state license with privileges to practice in the state(s) where the RN is providing client nursing services
Note: Licensed nurses practicing via telehealth/telenursing/virtual modalities are required to be licensed or hold the privilege to practice in the state(s) where the client(s) is/are located. Licensed nurses are responsible and accountable for knowing, understanding, and practicing in compliance with the laws, rules, regulations, and standards of practice of the state(s) where the client(s) is/are located.
Experience
Typically requires 1 year of experience in clinical nursing.

- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Proficiency in operating computer functions (e.g., E-mail, electronic records, digital platforms etc.) clinical, aviation, maintenance, communications, and administrative departments.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
- Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, reach above shoulders, and twist frequently throughout the workday.
- Must be able to lift and support the weight of 35 pounds in handling patients, medical equipment, and supplies.
- Must be able to: push/pull with 30 lbs. of force and perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with a second person present.
- Must have functional speech, vision, hearing, and touch with ability to use fine hand manipulation skills for IV insertion and other procedures/functions.
- Maneuver foot pedals on carts or machines.
- Perform physical safety interventions such as patient restraint and verbal de-escalation, if needed.
- May be exposed to chemical and hazardous waste as well as blood and body fluids and communicable disease. Therefore, protective clothing and equipment must be worn as necessary.
- Must be able to respond quickly to changes in patient and/or unit conditions.
- Physical Abilities Testing may be required.
- Additional department specific physical requirements may be identified for unique responsibilities within the department by the nurse leader.
