Coordinates the work of others as assigned in a medical laboratory section. Works with considerable independence to perform and interpret various chemical, microscopic, and/or bacteriologic tests to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. Is expert in the use of all equipment and procedures for an assigned area.Major Responsibilities:
- Interviews prospective candidates for positions in the laboratory and makes recommendation to Manager.
- Evaluates new hires performance and conducts performance reviews on employees assigned.
- Schedules employees for various lab benches and shifts; reviews all work performed in area to ensure completeness and quality and takes corrective action as necessary.
- Discusses performance issues with employees and recommends disciplinary action to Manager.
- Follows established protocols to perform an all kinds of tests, including the most complex for an assigned area. Provides guidance and consultation to Medical Technologist I’s and Medical Lab. Technicians in the interpretation of highly complex or unusual test results.
- Interprets and correlates clinical test results with patient history, diagnosis, and clinical condition to explain test results (normal/abnormal) so that appropriate action can be taken.
- Troubleshoots testing process discrepancies.
- Develops new test and quality procedures for assigned area.
- Ensures that test results meet requirements of the laboratory quality control program.
- Ensures preventative maintenance for equipment in assigned area. Performs complex troubleshooting, repair, and modification of a wide range of complex equipment and instrumentation.
- May assist in the roll-out of new equipment and equipment modifications.
- Instructs technicians and technologists in the set-up and operation of new equipment and procedures.
- Ensures compliance with all laboratory quality and safety policies.
- Instructs students in clinical laboratory operations and procedures.
- Maintains accurate records of tests performed, using computer-based systems.
Position Qualifications:
License/Certification/Education:
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree or successful completion of an accredited four-year school of Medical Technology.
Preferred:
- ASCP certification as an MT is preferred.
Experience/Skills:
Required:
- Five years of related experience with demonstrated leadership skills.
Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.

Our team serves both our academic medical center and community-based practices, offering a unique opportunity to blend academic medicine with high-quality community care.
Join a vibrant Division of Gastroenterology composed of 22 faculty members, 2 PhDs, 12 clinical fellows, and 10 advanced practice providers. This position offers a dynamic balance of clinical practice, teaching, research, and administrative leadership opportunities.

Key Highlights:
- Clinical practice primarily based in Southbridge, MA or Marlboroguh, MA with dedicated service weeks at UMass Memorial Medical Center campus.

Under the direction of the Manager Ambulatory Operations, supervises clinical support employees and activities for the efficient administration of patient care. Performs and coordinates a broad range of related functions to include direct patient care, telephone encounters, coordination of clinical support staff work assignments, staff scheduling and quality assurance initiatives.I. Major Responsibilities:
1. In collaboration with Manager Ambulatory Operations, directs and supervises assigned personnel including performance evaluations, scheduling, orientation, and training. Makes recommendations on employee hires, transfers, promotions, salary changes, discipline, terminations, and similar actions. Participates and contributes to any required documentation regarding these activities. Resolves grievances and other personnel problems within position responsibilities.
2. Monitors workflow and productivity to evaluate clerical and clinic support staff performance. Takes corrective action to ensure the efficient and effective workflow. Works closely with Manager Ambulatory Operations regarding the training and development of clinical staff. Participates in providing non-clinical office staff the clinical knowledge required to enhance their individual roles. Provides daily assurance that all areas are properly staffed with clinical support staff (Patient Care Associates, Medical Assistants and / or Licensed Practical Nurses) that are trained for a particular area. Changes work assignments as needed in order to assure an optimal workflow.

Provides crisis evaluations for patients in the Psychiatric Service both on and off site, for young children, adults and geriatric patients. Utilizes the language of the current DSM V to establish comprehensive diagnostic evaluations and subsequent planning and treatment. Coordinates and facilitates system treatment meetings, on and off site, to develop comprehensive treatment plans. Works with patients and their families, including treatment planning implementation, group and individual therapy, and coordinates community services and discharge planning. Works with insurance companies to fulfill all requirements for appropriate referrals to inpatient units, outpatient care and diversion programs, while strongly advocating for the patient. Participates in the orientation and/or training of new staff, students and others.I. Major Responsibilities:
1. Provides psychosocial history and mental status assessment of patients in psychiatric crisis at the University campus and mobiles to off-site locations.
2. Assigns the appropriate clinical level of care to each patient including inpatient, outpatient, diversion programs, providing information and referrals to specialized intervention programs, including substance abuse detoxification and rehabilitation. Understands clinical levels of treatment.
3. Develops and maintains a safe therapeutic environment. Actively participates in psychiatric emergencies, including restraint of out-of-control patients, while maintaining safety in the milieu.
4. Triages calls of patients with psychiatric emergencies, including suicide ideation and/or attempts, and determines which intervention is needed. Identifies clinical resources and makes referrals when necessary. Serves as a referral source for patient, family members and agency staff.
5. Functions in a Case Management role, facilitating and coordinating referral and access to psychiatric treatment, delivery of social services, including financial assistance, health insurance, community-based care and medical contracts/collaboration.
6. Assesses factors relating to need for care, adjustment to care, and response to treatment as documented in the clinical record. Facilitates communication with all outpatient treaters, including psychiatric outpatient, social services and medical, i.e. Primary Care Physicians, Nurse Practitioners and Visiting Nurse, and interfaces with these providers to coordinate treatment planning, serving as a referral source for patients and family members to assist in their compliance with treatment recommendations.
7. Maintains current knowledge and compliance for all managed care specifications regarding notification, presentation of clinical information, pre-certification, billing and faxing requirements.
8. Documents all information obtained in evaluation, assessment, consultation, referral and disposition to comply with regulatory requirements, as well as ensuring best possible patient outcome. Actively participates in formulation and execution of Quality Improvement and subsequent data collection.
9. Maintains service logs are required. Codes for billing according to current practice.
10. Obtains vital signs and specimens as ordered, and uses computer ordering system to facilitate specimens to the lab.

The clinical pharmacist provides comprehensive medication management services that integrate clinical services, order management, patient/staff education and research. Clinical Performance:
Provides medication management services in a collaborative manner that consist of the following:
- Review patient medication history, educate patients on drug therapy, establish desired outcomes, develop/modify therapeutic plans, determine alternatives for achieving outcomes, develop drug monitoring plans, monitor patient outcomes, document medication related issues in electronic health record, interpret laboratory data, review patient medication profiles, monitor pharmacokinetics of drug therapy, monitoring for potential adverse drug – drug, drug-lab, drug-disease state, and drug - food interactions.
- Maintains and updates a patient profile with demographics (e.g. height and weight), diagnosis, allergies, and current medications.
- Monitors drug therapy to evaluate appropriateness of use, dose, dosage form, regimen, route, therapeutic duplication, and drug interaction.
- Provides drug information to health care professionals and to patients.
- Documents clinical interventions.
- Counsels patients on discharge medications as appropriate.

- Ensures proper technique and accurate preparation of all pharmaceutical products, including oral, non-sterile and sterile compounding, chemotherapeutic, hazardous, and investigational agents.
- Responsible for the accurate filling and dispensing of medications from the pharmacy area.
- Cross-covers in a variety of practice areas within the pharmacy as requested by supervisor.
- Ensures regulatory compliance of controlled substance distribution and monitoring.
- Supervise work of pharmacy technicians.
- Provide feedback to maintain and optimize pharmacy technology.
Financial Performance
- Promotes the use of formulary drugs by converting non-formulary orders to formulary drugs when possible according to P&T protocol. Coordinates procurement of non-formulary drugs when necessary.

7. Collects patient liabilities including deductibles, copays, coinsurances, self-pay payments, cosmetic procedure payments, and patient balances as appropriate, prior to or on the date of service.
8. Performs Surgical Day admissions
9. Performs bed control, transfers, discharges and admissions tasks
10. Provides patient with standard information regarding their personal preparation for scheduled procedures and services.
11. Assesses patients’ financial needs and directs accordingly to financial counseling and refers to appropriate person or area.

We are seeking a full-time radiation oncology dosimetrist to join our team of seven (7) medical physicists and seven (7) dosimetrists that provide coverage for six (6) facilities across the greater Southeast Michigan area, with primary coverage for this position being at our new Pontiac / Oakland, MI location. This position requires an on-site presence with flexibility available for remote work.
We are an integrated system using ARIA, Eclipse, and Varian accelerators. In addition to this, we have an active CyberKnife and HDR program at our Ann Arbor campus. Our Oakland facility has a new Varian linear accelerator with real time tracking, a new 4D CT simulator, brachytherapy, and much more. We also support the education of radiation therapy students at our locations.
Education, Licensure, and Experience:
- Requires bachelor's degree with specific course work in radiation therapy and dosimetry, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Certified Medical Dosimetrist preferred.
- At least five years' of work experience in a progressive radiation oncology facility is preferred.

- Duties are typical of Medical Dosimetrists working in a multi-center facility utilizing linear accelerators and state of the art software, hardware, and planning techniques.

The Shapiro Lab of the Department of Medical Oncology is seeking a highly motivated and organized individual to assist in several projects related to cyclin-dependent kinase inhibition in breast and other CDK4-driven cancer models. Projects will contribute heavily to cell cycle inhibitor cancer drug development using novel combinatorial strategies to circumvent resistance. Responsibilities will also include service as a Laboratory Safety Officer, ordering of supplies and general lab maintenance.
- Set up, adjust, calibrate, clean, maintain and troubleshoot equipment

Under the general direction of the Financial Counseling Supervisor/Manager and/or Financial Clearance Director, the Lead Financial Counselor (Certified Application Counselor) provides functional oversight to an assigned group of Financial Counselors for the process of providing health care coverage needs assessment with patients, community applicants, and family members.I. Major Responsibilities:
1. Responsible for distributing and monitoring the flow of work for an assigned group of Financial Counselors.
2. Prioritizes work in high volume, fast paced, team-oriented environment.
3. Interviews, screens and assess applicants and family members in a variety of on campus locations utilizing income and household composition and other criteria in accordance with CMS and other governmental established guidelines for program eligibility.
4. Determines qualification for affordable health insurance coverage, including the application of advance premium tax credits (APTC), premium assistance programs, Medicare Savings Plans and any other program they may be determined eligible.
5. Interacts with patients, the community, and outside agencies in a professional manner in keeping with the Mission and Vision of UMMHC.
6. Facilitates enrollment through the online Health Connector Health Insurance Exchange (HIX) or any other program application by accurate and timely submission of necessary paperwork according to state and federal regulations and policies.

Supervises daily operation of assigned areas within the Patient Access Center (PAC). The PAC is designed to be a premier health contact center that provides patients, families and referring providers multiple pathways to connect to UMass Memorial Health (UMMH). The Supervisor provides operational oversight of the PAC which includes implementing the PAC’s strategic direction, supporting short and long-term goals, staff oversight and accountability, and acting as liaison with patients, referring providers, UMMH providers, hospitals, and senior leadership.I. Major Responsibilities:
1. Coordinates daily activities for the Patient Access Center, including but not limited to scheduling staff, maintaining work queues, and performing statistical reporting.
a) Evaluates workload across priorities and distribute and monitor the flow of work for an assigned group of employees.
b) Ensures staff coverage and schedule.
c) Serves as the point of contact for escalated phone calls, technical issues, and workflow questions. Resolves or escalates issues where appropriate and provides customer service recovery when necessary.
d) Manages the operations of the PAC to ensure optimal performance, patient, and provider experience. Manages the performance of the scheduling-based team and/or general information functions at his/her assigned PAC location. Oversees and monitors work queues and reports for the Patient Access Center.
e) Examines current resources and identifies opportunities for system support to streamline processes for staff and management, including streamlining workflows.
f) Manages work queues and reports to ensure appropriate productivity and quality standards are achieved.
g) Organizes and maintains clear channels of communication with staff and exhibits appropriate communication with all levels of personnel.
2. Responsible for supervising PAC personnel assigned
a) Conducts onboarding and continuous training to ensure employees receive the appropriate skillset development and are appropriately trained. Ensures staff compliance with mandatory education and training.
b) Ensures staff evaluations are completed according to defined PAC performance standards, account evaluation periods, and conduct disciplinary action process as appropriate.
c) Holds individuals accountable to meet or exceed the performance and customer service standards. Provides support to management during challenging staff disciplinary action and / or termination discussions.
d) Oversees collection of patient liabilities as appropriate.
e) Participates in hiring process such as conducting interviews, recommendations for hiring and coordinate with the Manager and HR.
3) Serves as the PAC liaison with assigned clinics and departments
a) Collaborates and works closely with other clinic and departments to promote a harmonious relationship and atmosphere of teamwork and partake in process improvement initiatives.
b) Assists the Manager to identify areas of opportunity and process improvement to improve communication channels, reduce hand-offs and access with the clinic.
4. Serves within roles of the Scheduling Agent
a) Handles patients, families and referring providers to schedule patient appointments. Scheduling scope includes multiple incoming phone calls from providers across multiple clinics/departments, practices across multiple campuses.
b) Makes outbound phone calls to patients to schedule appointments with specialists and subspecialists.
c) As part of the appointment scheduling process, secures the information needed to facilitate the financial aspects of medical care such as patient demographics (name, date of birth, etc.), insurance information, and account guarantor. Processes updates and corrections to patient insurance and demographic information. Collects patient liabilities prior to or on the date of service, as appropriate.
d) Based upon appointment visit type, secures medical records from outside health care organizations to ensure the provider has the necessary medical information to provide care.
e) Schedules in office procedures (such as biopsies, etc.), which often requires scheduling the appointment and scheduling the room where the procedure will take place.
f) Applies relevant functional knowledge of multiple treatment areas, the priority and sequence of associated procedures, tests, and primary care services.
g) Prioritizes visits and services in a manner that will foster more efficient utilization of physician’s clinical staff, and patient’s time, as well as equipment and facilities.
5) Position is a working managerial position. May perform duties of supporting staff when necessary.

Job Profile SummaryUnder general supervision of the Mammography/Ultrasound Supervisor, performs ultrasound scans to produce images to assist physicians in the diagnosis of injury and/or disease for patients of all ages. Performs related clerical and service duties.

1. Obtains and records appropriate patient clinical information and/or history; verifies physician assessment of each patient, making adjustments in the standard imaging procedures and techniques to accommodate patient size, age, or condition using Universal Protocol

Under the direction of the appropriate licensed clinician, and in keeping with unit specific standards, provides patient care to meet the personal needs and comfort of patients; and assists members of the healthcare team. In order to become a PCT II a caregiver must meet the full competencies outlined by the Nursing Professional Practice.As an integral member of the patient care team, serves both internal and external customers including patients, nurses, physicians and other colleagues who support the delivery of care and services.
I. Major Responsibilities:
1. Provides clear, timely communication to the RN regarding observations and changes seen in patients. Examples, but not limited to changes in skin condition, vital signs, and/or mental status.
2. Provides constant observation of high-risk patients as assigned by the Resource Nurse or designee.
3. Participates in the development and maintenance of a safe environment. Works to utilize interventions to de-escalate patients and if unsuccessful participates in restraints in accordance with training and education as directed.
4. Assists patient with daily living activities such as personal hygiene, ambulating, meals and nourishment.
5. Assists in moving, lifting, positioning and transporting patients by utilizing proper safety techniques and body mechanics in all work-related activities.
6. Maintains patient safety by performing patient safety checks, utilizing fall prevention alternative devices/strategies as directed, and following the Restraint Policy standards when caring for a restrained patient.
7. Takes and records vital signs (temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure and pulse oxymetry). Measures and records patients’ height and weight.
8. Performs EKG’s, performs Point of Care (POC) tests and bladder scanning according to hospital standards. Collects, labels and prepares specimens for transport to lab.
9. Phlebotomy in certain locations.
10. Performs other selected unit specific procedures such as battery changes for telemetry units, checking status of unit equipment, cleaning equipment between patients and proper storage of supplies.
11. Assists RN/Licensed Independent Practitioner with treatments and procedures by preparing patient; obtaining and setting up equipment and supplies, such as intravenous and hemodynamic lines, and utilize sterile technique when indicated. Help in positioning the patient and providing the patient with emotional support. Clean up equipment and supplies following the treatment and/or procedure.
12. Observes, measures, records oral food and fluid intake. Sets up full strength tube feeding solutions and refills tube feeding bags as directed. Empties and records output, as approved, from a variety of sources, e.g., Foley catheter, ostomy appliances and drainage systems. Performs ostomy care on established ostomate patients as directed.
13. Demonstrates sensitivity and responsiveness to patients’ needs by acting as a source of information and approaches all interactions with the intention of building positive rapport and relationships.
14. Provides respectful, culturally and age-appropriate communication with patients, staff, family, visitors and others.
15. Replenishes patient and unit supplies and equipment.
16. Requests assistance from identified resources when more direction is needed.
17. Keeps current with hospital and unit changes by reading communication boards and/or books, bulletin boards, posted notices and reads and responds to UMMHC e mails on a regular basis.
18. Has the ability to precept new Patient Care Technicians.

Under the direction of the appropriate licensed clinician, and in keeping with unit specific standards, provides patient care to meet the personal needs and comfort of patients; and assists members of the healthcare team. In order to become a PCT II a caregiver must meet the full competencies outlined by the Nursing Professional Practice.
As an integral member of the patient care team, serves both internal and external customers including patients, nurses, physicians and other colleagues who support the delivery of care and services.

I. Major Responsibilities:
1. Provides clear, timely communication to the RN regarding observations and changes seen in patients. Examples, but not limited to changes in skin condition, vital signs, and/or mental status.
2. Provides constant observation of high-risk patients as assigned by the Resource Nurse or designee.
3. Participates in the development and maintenance of a safe environment. Works to utilize interventions to de-escalate patients and if unsuccessful participates in restraints in accordance with training and education as directed.
4. Assists patient with daily living activities such as personal hygiene, ambulating, meals and nourishment.
5. Assists in moving, lifting, positioning and transporting patients by utilizing proper safety techniques and body mechanics in all work-related activities.
6. Maintains patient safety by performing patient safety checks, utilizing fall prevention alternative devices/strategies as directed, and following the Restraint Policy standards when caring for a restrained patient.
7. Takes and records vital signs (temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure and pulse oxymetry). Measures and records patients’ height and weight.
8. Performs EKG’s, performs Point of Care (POC) tests and bladder scanning according to hospital standards. Collects, labels and prepares specimens for transport to lab.
9. Phlebotomy in certain locations.
10. Performs other selected unit specific procedures such as battery changes for telemetry units, checking status of unit equipment, cleaning equipment between patients and proper storage of supplies.
11. Assists RN/Licensed Independent Practitioner with treatments and procedures by preparing patient; obtaining and setting up equipment and supplies, such as intravenous and hemodynamic lines, and utilize sterile technique when indicated. Help in positioning the patient and providing the patient with emotional support. Clean up equipment and supplies following the treatment and/or procedure.
12. Observes, measures, records oral food and fluid intake. Sets up full strength tube feeding solutions and refills tube feeding bags as directed. Empties and records output, as approved, from a variety of sources, e.g., Foley catheter, ostomy appliances and drainage systems. Performs ostomy care on established ostomate patients as directed.
