Physician - HospitalistThe University of Kansas Health System, Department of Medicine, is seeking a full-time Internal Medicine Hospitalist to join our growing team at the Olathe Campus. This position offers the opportunity to provide high-quality, patient-centered inpatient care within a community hospital that is fully integrated with one of the nation's leading academic health systems.
Hospitalists practice in a collaborative environment focused on delivering exceptional clinical care while benefiting from the resources, specialty expertise, and innovation of The University of Kansas Health System. Patient care is provided through a shift-based schedule that includes day, swing, and limited night shifts, shared equitably among members of the group. A dedicated Nocturnist program is in place to support overnight coverage. The role also includes participation in call responsibilities consistent with the hospitalist practice.
As part of an integrated academic health system, physicians have opportunities to participate in quality improvement initiatives, multidisciplinary collaboration, and the education of medical students and residents as appropriate. Scholarly activities, clinical research, and professional development are encouraged for those with academic interests.
Required Qualifications:
MD/DO or equivalent

Physician - Cardiology: ElectrophysiologistThe University of Kansas Health System, Department of Cardiovascular Medicine, is seeking a clinically oriented and energetic Cardiac Electrophysiologist to join the Division of Cardiac Electrophysiology.
The prospective faculty will join 10 electrophysiologists and is expected to play an integral role supporting the clinical expansion including outreach in the Kansas City metro, as well as research and teaching activities of the division. The Cardiac Electrophysiology (EP) Program at The University of Kansas Health System is one of the most comprehensive and busiest EP programs in the country performing all complex interventional electrophysiology procedures. We are consistently ranked in the U.S. News & World Report Top 50 hospitals for Cardiology and Heart Surgery.
About the EP Program
- Performs > 3,500 cardiac EP procedures with 50-50 mix of device and ablation procedures per year (~800 AF ablations, ~550 Watchman Implants, ~100 lead extractions, ~ 175 PVC/VT Ablations)
- Provides advanced cardiac care including a busy advanced heart failure and transplant program on our academic medical center campus
- Several ongoing industry and investigator-initiated trials
- Active ACGME clinical cardiac EP fellowship training program
- Supports a one-year non-accredited, arrhythmia fellowship with core focus on cardiac EP research.

The Patient Registration Representative is responsible for Inpatient/ Outpatient registrations for the Health System. Obtains proper patient identification, demographics and financial information to adequately register and secure the patient encounter. Responsible for POS collections as required. Maintains a constant focus on providing excellent customer service to patients/ families and a professional image.Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions- Monitors schedule daily for patients arriving at the department for the day if applicable.
- Responsible for admitting/registering scheduled and non-scheduled or emergent patients for the assigned department.
- Conducts bedside admission on patients who are direct admits to the unit as needed.
- Obtains identification to assure accuracy of demographic and insurance information. Enter information in computer system with correct spelling of patient name and diagnosis, date of birth, social security number, employer, guarantor and correct medical record number.
- Greets patient and/or relative. Interviews and obtains or rechecks pertinent information.
- As required, collects co-payments or deposits as appropriate for service being rendered.
- Responsible to balance cash drawer as part of the end of the day process.
- Explains facility policies and ensures patient and/or relative understands and signs the consent for treatment, and insurance forms at the appropriate time. Clear and accurate documentation should be entered on the appropriate forms and keyed into the computer system.
- Complies with Medicare/Medicaid and other insurance rules and regulations.
- Completes MSPQ as required for admission.
- Attends and participates in staff training or education which relates to their position and would contribute to their knowledge.
- Responsible for the inventory and release of patient valuables placed in the safe following all requirements as described in the department policy as needed.
- Provide coverage as requested in all areas of Admitting following established guidelines.
- Knowledgeable of administrative policies, department procedures, third party coverage and required admission and insurance documents.

Identifies and responds to recipient/family/legal guardian’s educational, psychosocial and economic needs in post-transplant phase. Reinforces post-operative teaching if applicable. Collects and reviews data pertinent to recipient’s health and organ function. Communicates lab data and diagnostic results to transplant physician/healthcare provider. Implements changes in drug/treatment therapy as ordered by physician(s) and/or health care provider. Arranges for consultations, diagnostic procedures and hospitalization when indicated. Reinforces and facilitates need for well care (i.e., periodic mammography, pap smears and colonoscopy). Ensures recipient is screened annually for malignancy. Assesses recipient’s need for immunizations.
Demonstrates knowledge and the ability to monitor and coordinate care of the candidate awaiting organ transplantation. Develops and institutes a teaching plan addressing transplant candidate/family/legal guardian’s learning need. Maintains/ensures communication with patient, referring physicians, payers, other health care providers and transplant team members. Ensures all screening is obtained regularly per transplant center protocols. Maintains routine health maintenance and surveillance for malignancy during the waiting period. Exhibits ability to maintain and update candidate listing status per regulations. Identifies the need for candidate re-evaluation and initiates when appropriate. Provides and maintains comprehensive documentation of candidate progress.
Demonstrates proficiency and continual growth in the knowledge of transplantation. Reviews and integrates into practice the current professional literature in the field of transplant. Attends practice-related conferences. Participates in professional transplant/procurement organizations. Examines current transplant-related research. Shares knowledge through mentoring/precepting newly hired staff. Educates candidate/family/legal guardian about living donation options, evaluation process, regulations, organ allocation, waiting phase, transplant process, risks/benefits, including utilization of expanded donors, high-risk donors, if applicable, post-operative phase including immunosuppressive therapy and effects, potential research protocols of the transplant program, candidate/family/legal guardian responsibility throughout the transplant process.
Exhibits knowledge and ability to facilitate transplant process when organ becomes available to transplant candidate. This includes defining and adhering to the current regulations and allocation policies. Communicates with the regulatory bodies and collects the appropriate data necessary for decision-making regarding organ acceptance/rejection for transplant. Shares necessary information about the donor organ, including ABO compatibility, with the transplant surgeon/physician. Reviews potential recipient’s current medical status to determine eligibility for transplant. Assesses need for and obtains results of final cytotoxic cross match. Facilitates admission or transfer of patient to the transplant. Arranges any preoperative procedures required (i.e., dialysis). Notifies transplant team of pending surgical procedure. Acts as a liaison between the donor and recipient transplant teams. Exhibits ability to remove transplant recipient from list per regulations. Provides outcome specifics to regulatory bodies for donor family follow-up. Maintains communication with referring physician, health care providers and payers.
Identifies and responds to the psychosocial and economic needs of the transplant candidate/family/legal guardian during evaluation. Demonstrates knowledge of, and compliance with, policies and listing requirements. Informs and educates patient/family/legal guardian at time of listing. Ensures patient and referring physician are informed in writing of transplant listing, denial or postponement. Provides and maintains comprehensive documentation of evaluation process and makes appropriate referrals to specialists.
Interprets serological results of the potential transplant candidate and their implications for transplant. Obtains recipient blood type, tissue typing and cytotoxic antibodies according to transplant center protocol. Identifies possible co-morbidities in the transplant candidate and evaluates as indicated. Identifies absolute and relative contraindications to transplantation. Ensures patient understands risk and benefit of immunizations required prior to transplantation.

The Surgical Support Services Technician, under direction of supervisor or other member of the management team is responsible for ensuring that the surgical services team has access to supplies/instrumentation in a timely manner; provide efficient and customer focused service to Perioperative Services team including team members, leadership and medical staff and to patients/visitors; assists in transfers of patients; provides customer-focused service to the department for accurate and efficient surgical services supply support.Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions- Assists with patient transfers and communicates with patient utilizing high service standards/behaviors.
- Communicates with the health care team; effective communication regarding room needs, necessary follow-up by intraoperative team.
- Facilitates adequate stocking of emergency supply stock and specialty section stock to ensure accessibility for patient care needs.
- Maintains high level of supply organization to ensure that inventory is appropriately managed and accessible to the health care team.
- Participates in projects and performs other duties as assigned by the Surgical Support Services Supervisor and/or other member of the Perioperative leadership team.
- Partners with anesthesia services to ensure practitioners have access to required supplies for patient care delivery.
- Performs room and department decontamination as recommended by CDC, AORN, ASA, KUHA and manufacturer’s guidelines.
- Performs task related to pulling supplies and instruments to adequately and accurately prepare for cases; tasks include quality control mechanisms to ensure successful case pulls.
- Provides resources to staff during surgical cases to ensure that the team has the tools and equipment to perform surgical duties with minimal unnecessary interruption.
- Reviews and follows processes for acquiring, storing and handling surgical equipment in an organized, efficient manner according to division guidelines.

- Operational Performance – Assists the Ambulatory Clinic Manager in daily clinical and operational aspects of the clinic including staff scheduling and monitoring of provider clinic schedules to ensure effective resource management and quality improvement through monitoring of clinic key performance indicators.
- Collaborates with the Ambulatory Clinic Manager, Senior Administrator/Director, and Physician leadership to establish patient care standards and evaluates staff compliance. Serves as a mentor for excellence in clinical practice and patient and employee satisfaction.
- Maintains a safe and caring environment for patients that is conducive to positive health teaching and maintenance, meeting patient and family expectations for care while implementing mechanisms to ensure culturally specific care. Responds to patient and family concerns or complaints with sensitivity and compassion in a timely fashion.
- Uses findings from patient and staff satisfaction surveys, complaints, and patient safety events/root cause analysis to plan and improve patient care using active mentoring and performance management strategies including MDI (monitoring daily improvement) boards.
- Assists with hiring, education and performance evaluation of the staff. Works with the Clinic Nurse Manager/Practice Manager and Human Resources in performance management counseling and discipline of staff.
- Creates and maintains a supportive work environment for the entire team. Creates and maintains an atmosphere of respect and courtesy toward patients, staff and colleagues.
- Makes recommendations and provides opportunities for growth and development of personnel and arranges for appropriate education and training of staff.

The ambulatory clinic professional registered nurse has the authority, responsibility, and shift accountability for the delivery of nursing care using the nursing process.
