As a Patient Care Tech at MercyOne, you will be supports the professional clinical staff by providing direct patient care and performing studies and tests as assigned. These duties may vary by shift or may be unit-specific.
Schedule:
- 12-hour shifts; 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM; Days; rotating weekends and holidays
General Requirements:
- Delivers assigned patient care and treatment as delegated by an RN or LPN.
- Performs or assists patients with activities including personal hygiene, bathing, ambulation, transporting, range of motion exercises, dressing/undressing, feeding, changing bandages, elimination needs, and emptying drainage devices.
- Responds to patient calls and anticipates patient needs. Assures patient safety and comfort through use of safe patient handling techniques, regular rounding, environmental maintenance, equipment maintenance, and other appropriate safety measures.
- Calculates intake and output (excluding IVs). Measures vital signs. Performs bedside blood glucose testing. Makes entries to patient health records as consistent with scope of job duties and in compliance with company policy.
- Initiates or assists with emergency support measures (i.e., cardiopulmonary resuscitation, protecting patient from injury).
- Performs post-mortem care.
- Sets up equipment and supplies for procedures. Prepares patients and rooms for procedures, admissions, and transfers. Discharges patients from system.
- Observes and reports information regarding any change in physical/mental condition, behavior, or status of the patient to the nurse.
- Collects and labels specimens.
- Sets up, operates, and maintains selected pieces of equipment.
Minimum Qualification:
- Must be 16 years of age.
- Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter – Child and/or Dependent Adult Abuse training within three (3) months of hire.
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certified within six (6) weeks of hire.

Program Overview
The PCT Training Program consists of classroom instruction and skills lab practice delivered over a two-week period.
Program Schedule:
- Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Program Structure:
- Weeks 1: Classroom instruction and skills lab training
- Week 2: Hospital Wide Orientation – Monday 7:45 AM

An Operating Room Registered Nurse at MercyOne provides perioperative patient care, specifically in the intraoperative phase, in both the scrub and circulating roles according to established guidelines. Serves the population from neonate, infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric.
Essential Functions:
- Knows, understands, incorporates, and demonstrates the Trinity Health and MercyOne Mission, Vision, and Values in behaviors, practices, and decisions.
- Scrubs and circulates on cases independently, with minimal direction.
- Prepares for surgical cases in an efficient manner, anticipating needs of patient, surgeon, anesthesia and other O.R. team members.
- Provides a safe environment for patient and staff by implementing standards of aseptic technique and by controlling the physical and psychological aspects of that environment.
- Collects and analyzes data and assesses patient in developing nursing diagnosis.
- Communicates effectively with the patient, staff, physicians, and families.
- Maintains knowledge of equipment set-up and function.
- Initiates and directs room clean up and turnover.
- Participates in orientation and training of new personnel.
- Assists in maintenance of physician's preference cards and other O.R. resource material.
- Utilizes computer in surgical documentation, disposition of specimens and obtaining pertinent information.
- Participates in departmental Performance Improvement activities as appropriate.
- Attends department meetings and in-services.
- Other duties as assigned by the manager.

- Conducts review of medical records for data related to quality and safety initiatives required by CMS, The Joint Commission, and others as assigned.
- Supports Nurse Governance Council as appropriate to quality and safety work.
- Assists with TJC Survey as applicable.
- Utilizes vendor database, or other computer program, to input, aggregate and analyze data for quality measurement directed towards improvement of organizational performance, as assigned.
- Reports outcomes of measures to appropriate clinical leaders, medical staff, disease management groups and others as identified.
- Educates physicians and clinical staff regarding requirements (by CMS, The Joint Commission and others) for specifications and documentation expectations for assigned quality and safety measures.
- Works with multi-disciplinary team to ensure measure documentation is within required specifications.
- Creates reports, scorecards and graphs necessary to communicate analysis of data.
- Collaborates with multi-disciplinary teams to develop strategies for variance reduction and performance improvement activities.
- Facilitates improvement work related to quality and safety that may include falls prevention, readmissions, mortality, and other projects determined by manager.
- Demonstrates knowledge, skills and abilities to perform quality improvement activities and medical record chart abstractions to include, but not limited to: CMS core measures, Trinity Health measures, NDNQI measures, ORYX measures, medical staff measures, and selected measures related to data collection for national data bases.
- Accurately interprets clinical information in the medical record including, but not limited to physician documentation, diagnostic tests, medications, procedures, and nursing assessments.
- Actively participates in the quality improvement meetings as scheduled. Reports successes and deficiencies related to selected indicators. Participates in action planning and follow-up to improve patient care and services.
- Attends and participates in Trinity Health’s monthly Quality Contacts call, and applies information to current quality activities.
- Participates in periodic CMS or audio conference calls, WebEx education, and other Internet communications related to CMS indicator manual revisions and other updates.
- Participates on the Nursing Performance Improvement Committee, and other hospital committees.
- Analyzes and interprets information to ensure requesters receive reports that are accurate, valid and reliable, and displayed in a useable and meaningful way to include usage of a variety of statistical and performance improvement tools.
- Stroke Coordinator/Neuro Service Line QSEN as applicable per site
- Provides medical staff support as determined by manager.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing, or higher preferred
- Current RN license to practice nursing in Iowa where work is performed
- Experience:
- Requires a minimum of three (3) years of experience in healthcare setting.
- Previous hospital performance improvement experience preferred.
- Special Skills, Competencies, and Aptitudes:
- Must be able to use computers for documentation and other relevant activities. Demonstrates specific knowledge related to software programs such as event reporting systems, government reporting systems, and other appropriate software programs. Experience with computer applications such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), HealthStream, Intranet, and use of reporting tools. Helpful to have experience with PowerChart/EPIC or similar tool.

Join the MercyOne Family! We are looking to hire aMedication History Pharm Tech.
As a Medication History Pharm Tech at MercyOne, will provide technical support in obtaining, verifying for accuracy, and recording initial medication histories from patients &/or their designated family/caregivers upon presentation to Mercy patient care areas. Includes conducting patient &/or family interviews focused on obtaining current medication regimens including prescription and over-the-counter (non-prescription) medications, as well as vitamin and herbal supplements.
Perform other functions of a pharmacy technician registered in the State of Iowa and within the scope of Iowa law as needed.
Schedule:
- 8-hours Evenings 2:00 PM - 10:30 PM
General Requirements:
- Successfully complete Medication History Pharmacy Technician Competency/Skill Set.
- Interview patients &/or their designated family/caregivers as soon as possible after patient presents for care to MercyOne clinical areas (includes the Emergency Department, as well as inpatient and outpatient areas).
- Obtain & record in the electronic medical record a current list of medications to include: prescription medications, over-the-counter (non-prescription) medications, vitamin and nutritional supplements, as well as the source(s) for this information.
- Recording should include the following: name/location of patient’s ambulatory pharmacy, medication/supplement name, dosage form, strength, dose, day/time of most recent dose, and source(s) of the information being recorded.
- Attempt to clarify as many uncertainties and compile a Best Possible Medication History utilizing patient and family/caregiver information, ambulatory pharmacy records, clinic records, long-term-care facility records and information from previous hospital encounters.
- Obtain & record in the electronic medical record an allergy history for each patient. In doing so, clarify & record the nature of the allergic reaction when necessary.
- Consult with a pharmacist in all cases of unresolved uncertainties related to a patient’s medication & allergy history.
Education:
- High School Diploma or GED
- National Pharmacy Technician Certification and Registered with the Iowa Board of Pharmacy at the time of hire OR Registered as a Pharmacist-Intern with the State of Iowa at time of hire
- 2,000 hours of pharmacy technician experience
