Job Duties:
- Assists in patient care under the immediate supervision of a registered nurse preceptor and as assigned by the nurse in charge.
- Functions as a member of the nursing team.
- Identifies, observes, reports, and documents the social and psychological needs of the patient and family.
- Identifies, observes, and documents the physical needs of the patient according to standard.
- Reports changes in patient condition to the registered nurse.
- Obtains and maintains the integrity of specimens in accordance with policy and procedure, according to physician order.
- Monitors blood glucose, urine and stool, and sputum.
- Assists patient with ADL's.
- Assists with patient transfer and transport, as needed.
- Participates in three expanded observational experiences in the ten-week period.
- Participates actively in patient safety improvement and management program.
- Assumes responsibility for identifying processes or systems that could potentially lead to errors and adverse events.
- Participates in required organizational and departmental patient safety education programs and other activities designed to improve departmental and organizational patient safety.
- Reports promptly serious events and incidents in accordance with established hospital policy and procedure.
- Staff have access to non-controlled medications storage and supply areas and can transport non-controlled medications as necessary to meet the needs of the clinic and unit.

Eligibility:
Applicants must be nursing students currently enrolled in an accredited nursing program and entering their senior year. Eligible candidates are expected to graduate in December 2027 or May 2028. Underclass nursing students are encouraged to apply to our Nursing Internship Program.
Externship Program Dates: June 6 – August 14
Externs are required to attend one mandatory orientation session prior to the start of the program. Two orientation sessions will be offered: May 24–26 or June 1, 2 & 4. Externs will be assigned to one orientation session based on capacity. Orientation assignments will be communicated prior to the program start.

Overview

The patient population is neurosurgery, trauma, burns and orthopedic trauma. The intermediate care patients are received from both the Burn Trauma ICU and the Neurosurgical ICU. Also, there are 17 beds for Medical/Surgical level of care for neurosurgical, trauma, burns, orthopedic trauma, and bariatric weight loss (gastric bypass and gastric sleeves). Our nurses are trained to work both the intermediate and the medical surgical side. The nurse to patient ratio for the Intermediate Care beds are 3 to 4 and for the Medical/Surgical beds are 5 to 6. The Registered Nurse will work in a collaborative role as part of a team to maintain and support the standards of nursing care and practice, to meet the health care needs of patients, their families, and the community.

Provide quality MRI Imaging to patients under the direction of a supervising physician with adherence to the required protocol standards. Duties may include but are not limited to: Administration of MRI contrast per protocol, Evaluates and approves patient MRI safety screening form prior to patient entering scanner, Knowledge of MRI safety zones and other safety regulations. Reviewing patient records for accuracy and evaluating all implants and devices through vendor resources. Acting as liaison with physician and supportive care personnel. Maintaining patient records, reports, and files. Performs patient MRI exam per protocol, reviews imaging for accuracy and quality prior to sending for interpretation, examination and procedure to patient and completes departmental documentation. - Graduate of 24 month program in radiologic technology (Required)

We provide market-competitive compensation packages, inclusive of base pay, incentives, and benefits. The base pay range for full-time employment is $256,505.60 - $353,808.00 annually.
