Responsible for front line support to the department. Coordinates and performs front line office activities in an effective and efficient manner for the department. Greets and registers incoming patients, supports the patient check out process and schedules future appointments as applicable.Job Duties:
- Responsible for checking patients in for appointments and accurately verifying demographics.
- Assures all check-in procedures are completed and monitors patient wait times, communicating changes to the patient as necessary.
- Reads and interprets insurance responses.
- Understands general guidelines and insurance rank requirement to properly assign primary, secondary, and tertiary insurance per encounter.
- Ensures patient receives necessary disclosure and privacy information, obtains necessary legal and financial signatures.
- Communicates financial obligations to patients and collects fees at time of service as appropriate.
- Communicates the purpose of and completes all necessary regulatory forms with patient.
- Completes patient's visit by scheduling any necessary follow up appointments to include any specialty or ancillary services as possible.
- Processes multi-channel messages related to patient and/or physician requests regarding: appointments, referrals, prescriptions, and complaints.
- Notifies patient or guarantor of anticipated financial responsibility including copays, deductibles, or coinsurances and collects accordingly.
- Performs cash posting following department guidelines.
- Abides by organizational and HIPAA guidelines, privacy practices, patient confidentiality and patient rights.
- Independently works work queues to ensure timely resolution of all accounts.
- Maintain productivity and quality performance expectations

Advanced Acute Care Orthopaedics (HFAM6) is a 30 bed private room, post-surgical care, mostly orthopedic, medical/surgical, telemetry unit offering a challenging and professional work environment. As a generalist with our second shift medical laboratory team, you’ll work in multiple areas and refine your skills through time spent in blood bank, toxicology, urinalysis, chemistry, hematology, and more! As a member of the laboratory team at Geisinger Medical Center (GMC), you’ll support a 500+ bed Level I trauma and comprehensive stroke center AND perform testing for the entire eight-hospital system. This role will do automated, semi-automated, and manual testing in a fast-paced, collaborative team environment.
With the volume of specimens processed at GMC, you’ll test abnormal specimens daily in addition to completing life-saving routine testing like hemoglobin A1C, lipids, kidney function, drug screens, and volatiles. You’ll also work with state-of-the-art automated testing equipment and support quality control measures, troubleshoot instrumentation, and verify results on front-end processing equipment. This position will also have the opportunity to learn flow cytometry.
Education Qualification and Details
Medical Technologist/Medical Laboratory Scientist:
- Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college/university AND successful completion of an ASCP/NAACLS-accredited Medical Technology program OR;

Sentara is currently hiring a Patient Care Technician to work at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital on the Inpatient Rehab Unit.
Hours/Shift:
FLEXI (as needed), rotating shifts, 7am to 7pm and 7pm to 7am
Department/Position Overview:
Inpatient Rehab (IPR) is an 8-bed unit specializing in providing patients with additional rehabilitation needs for 2-3 weeks when they are not independent enough to go home but do not require a skilled nursing facility. We work closely with physical therapy, occupational therapy, & speech therapy teams while providing care to these patients. We become familiar with our patients and their routines over this longer stay. We enjoy watching our patients progress to going home and that is rewarding as a patient care technician. The patient population includes but is not limited to stroke, spinal cord injury, patients that required amputation or other orthopedic patients that require more therapy after being medically cleared from the hospital.
Patient Care Technicians are unlicensed staff members who are accountable to, and work under the direct supervision of a professional nurse to implement delegated aspects of nursing care. Provide patient care, support the admissions and discharge process, and comply with patient safety practices under the direction of the professional nurse. Observe patients' physical, mental, and emotional conditions and report any change to the nurse.

- American Health Associate BLS Certification required within 90 days of hire.

Department/Position Overview:
3 West Ortho is a 12-bed unit that accommodates a variety of post operative surgical procedures including total hip, knees, shoulders, ankles & spine. Being that most of our patients are admitted via elective procedure it makes the patient population a joy as they are often very thankful for our staff & have an anticipated plan of care managing pain, physical therapy & monitoring post operative complications. We enforce more independence by promoting mobility which decreases the amount of total care patients we have which is also a bonus for our small unit.
Patient Care Technicians are unlicensed staff members who are accountable to, and work under the direct supervision of a professional nurse to implement delegated aspects of nursing care. Provide patient care, support the admissions and discharge process, and comply with patient safety practices under the direction of the professional nurse. Observe patients' physical, mental, and emotional conditions and report any change to the nurse.
EducationHigh School Diploma or Equivalent
Certification/Licensure
- American Health Associate BLS Certification required within 90 days of hire.
- Minimum requirements: Must have one of the following
- Sentara Care Partner Certification Program, or
- Successful completion of the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), or

Status: Full-Time, permanent position (36 hours OR 40 hours)
Standard working hours:
- 3x12 weekend schedule/ 36 hours: 8:00 AM to 8:30 PM EST, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday OR Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, including a 30-minute lunch break
- 4x10 schedule/ 40 hours: 8:00 AM to 6:30 PM EST, Friday through Monday, including a 30-minute lunch break
- Eligible for weekend shift differential
- The position requires training Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM for the first several weeks before transitioning to the full-time weekend day shift.
Job responsibilities:
- Responsible for the provision of medical social work services to patients receiving care in the hospital setting.
- Assesses the social, cultural, environmental, and financial situations, as well as the disposition needs of each referred patient.
