Looking for a nursing opportunity where you can sharpen your clinical skills, work with a highly collaborative team, and make a meaningful impact every shift? 9 Kaufman is a 24-bed stepdown intermediate care unit at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital specializing in vascular surgery, telemetry, and renal/pancreas transplant care. As part of the Surgical Specialty Team, our unit brings together RNs, LPNs, Nursing Care Partners, Unit Ambassadors, and Clinical Support Associates who work side by side to deliver exceptional patient care.
Why 9 Kaufman?
On 9 Kaufman, you’ll care for a diverse patient population and gain hands-on experience with complex vascular procedures such as aortic aneurysm repair, carotid endarterectomy, femoral bypass surgeries, and amputations. The unit also serves as an extension of our renal/pancreas transplant program, partnering closely with the outpatient transplant center to support patients through critical stages of care. Every bed is monitored, giving nurses the opportunity to strengthen telemetry skills while expanding their expertise in surgical specialty and transplant nursing.

This unit welcomes new graduate nurses and experienced nurses moving into this specialty. The 11-week Transition to Practice program focuses on the orientation transition experience with intentional knowledge support and skill acquisition for practice in IMC areas. For new graduates, this TTP program is the start of a comprehensive 6-month residency program to support your transition to practice.

Education Requirements
- Degree or diploma in Registered Nursing required
- BSN or MSN preferred

The unit also serves as an extension of our renal/pancreas transplant program, partnering closely with the outpatient transplant center to support patients through critical stages of care. Every bed is monitored, giving nurses the opportunity to strengthen telemetry skills while expanding their expertise in surgical specialty and transplant nursing.

The Oncology 6 RP Unit is a 36-bed inpatient Intermediate Care Unit dedicated to caring for patients with cancer. Nurses on this unit provide compassionate, specialized care while monitoring patient conditions, administering medications, delivering chemotherapy and other treatments, and supporting patients through complex care needs. Care provided on this unit includes chemotherapy, hospice, radiation, stem cell transplant/CAR-T, radioactive iodine, and symptom management.
- Work within one of the country’s largest cancer networks, accredited as an Integrated Network Cancer Program by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including board-certified and fellowship-trained cancer experts, to support individualized patient care.

- High School Diploma or Equivalent (Required) and one of the following is required:
- Sentara Care Partner Certification Program, or

LPN manages responsibilities of workload with accuracy, provides excellence in customer service, performs testing, medication administration and the implementation of nursing interventions and care plans to support a holistic approach to patient care. The LPN serves as patient advocate in the prevention of illness or disease. Environmental Services Techs work Full-time hours, Monday through Friday and every other weekend.
Hours/Shift: Full-time working Day, Evening, or Night Shift per availability:
Day Shift from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Evening Shift from 3 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.
Night Shift from 11 p.m. to 7:30 a.m.
Environmental Services Tech I (Housekeeper):
The Environmental Services Technician I is responsible for maintaining a clean, orderly, and sanitary environment in assigned areas. This role requires safe work practices, including the proper use of cleaning chemicals, equipment, and applications such as damp dusting, mopping, scouring, scrubbing, stripping, and polishing. The Technician also ensures compliance with regulatory standards for waste collection, handling, and transport.
As an Environmental Services Technician, you will play a key role in creating a safe and welcoming environment for patients, their families, and staff. Your primary duties include cleaning patient rooms, hallways, and common areas, responding to spills, and ensuring proper waste disposal. This position offers opportunities to cross-train in other areas, along with pathways for professional development and career growth. Success in this role requires exceptional teamwork and collaboration, with a shared commitment to delivering the best possible experience and care for our patients.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintain assigned areas in a clean and sanitary condition.
