The Patient Care Assistant is to transport patients to and from the unit(s), and also provide other support services to the patients and professional staff.

Methodist Southwest Medical Center, previously known as Methodist Charlton Medical Center, is a 314-bed, full-service, acute care teaching hospital that serves Cedar Hill, DeSoto, Duncanville, Lancaster, and Glen Heights in southwestern Dallas County. At Houston Methodist, the Registered Nurse (RN) PRN OR Services position is a licensed staff nurse, an experienced clinician, functions at the Competent to Proficient stage of Benner's model of clinical practice. The RN PRN OR Services position provides professional nursing care to a diverse patient population, conducts nursing assessments, assists with exams and treatment, patient education, and maintenance of medical records. The RN PRN OR Services position provides direct patient care effectively and efficiently which may include patients with varied and complex needs. This position communicates and collaborates with the physicians and interprofessional health care team to facilitate, coordinate and maintain compassionate, efficient, quality care and achievement of desired treatment outcomes. The RN PRN OR Services position demonstrates clinical competence when providing care, using technology, administering medications, performing procedures and managing emergencies, acting as a patient and family advocate in order to monitor and maintain patient rights. This position assumes leadership roles with progressive responsibility including but not limited to participating in or leading unit and shared governance initiatives, serving as charge nurse or preceptor to students or new employees, and possibly contributing to service line or hospital-wide initiatives in partnership with management.

- RN - Registered Nurse - Texas State Licensure - Texas Board of Nursing_PSV Compact Licensure - must obtain permanent Texas license within 60 days (if establishing Texas residency) and
- BLS - Basic Life Support or Instructor (AHA) - American Heart Association

- Implements staff education specific to patient populations and unit processes; coaches and mentors other staff and students. May include preceptorship. Uses peer-to-peer accountability towards improvement of department score for employee engagement.
SERVICE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Follows the patient and family-centered care standards, as outlined in the Houston Methodist Professional Nursing Practice document. Conducts nursing assessments, assists with exams and treatment, and maintenance of medical records.
- Develops, updates and communicates plan of care, including discharge, in partnership with the patient, family and interprofessional health care team, using the nursing process. Prioritizes care based on the patient’s needs, abilities and preferences. Advocates on patient/family’s behalf to identify and resolve clinical and ethical concerns, utilizing appropriate resources.
- Provides patient teaching based on learning needs, uses appropriate resources, incorporating planning for care after discharge. Consistently evaluates the patient’s comprehension and adapts teaching methods accordingly.
- Helps drive improvement of department score for patient satisfaction through peer-to-peer accountability to service standards.

This includes: positioning, physiology, procedure preparation, and technical factors. - Provides direct assistance to physicians during diagnostic or special MRI procedures, including assisting with sterile technique.
- Provides accurate explanations and instructions to patients and family members at an appropriate level utilizing verbal and non-verbal skills, terminology and language.

- Follows safety standards and conducts all imaging procedures accordingly. Maintains proper sterile techniques for procedures, regularly practices aseptic techniques, and ensures compliance with MRI safety and infection control procedures. SUPERVISION EXERCISED: NONE
JOB SUMMARY: GREETS, INSTRUCTS AND SCHEDULES PATIENTS, REGISTERS PATIENTS INTO THE COMPUTER SYSTEM, AND DETERMINES THEIR INSURANCE BENEFITS. SERVES AS A LIAISON BETWEEN PATIENT AND CLINICAL SUPPORT STAFF.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (THIS LIST MAY NOT INCLUDE ALL OF THE DUTIES ASSIGNED.)
1. Maintains strictest confidentiality.
2. Greets patients in a prompt, courteous and helpful manner.
3. Checks-in patients, verifies and updates demographic and insurance information to the medical record. Assists patients with ambulatory difficulties. Follows office scheduling policies. Collects payments and enters charges into computer system.
4. Registers new patients into computer system and verifies all patients’ addresses, telephone numbers and insurance information.
5. Answers telephone, screens calls, takes messages, and conveys information to appropriate parties. Proficiency with medical office technology systems.
6. Maintains work area and reception area in neat and orderly manner.
7. Advises Practice Manager of problems and concerns in the Front Office and helps in problem solving.
8. Attends educational and staff meetings as scheduled.
9. Determine and input daily balance of charges and receipts as assigned by the Office Manager.
Follows established policies and procedures; adheres to OSHA Regulations. Must be able to work with other staff members to foster a team approach to the highest quality of patient care and staff cooperation. Must be able to support the clinic efficiency and cohesion.
PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of front office procedures and medical terminology. Excellent grammar and spelling skills. Knowledge in operation of medical office technology systems. Skill in greeting patients and answering the telephone in a pleasant and helpful manner. Ability to speak clearly and concisely. Ability to read, understand, and follow oral and written instruction. Ability to sort and file materials correctly by alphabetic or numeric systems. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, employees, and the public.
EDUCATION
High school education or equivalent
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
1. Strong communication skills with consistent incorporation of judgement and discretion.
2. Working knowledge of medical terminology and coding preferred.
Previous two years in a front office using medical management software preferred.
4. Previous typing or data entry at 40 wpm experience.
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Frequent mobility and/or sitting required for extended periods of time. Some bending and stooping required. Requires occasional lifting up to 50 pounds of boxes of paper. Requires manual dexterity to operate office technology. Requires eyesight correctable to 20/20 to read numbers, policies, and computer terminals. TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS

Your Job Responsibilities:
• Generates accurate reports for management including utilization of graphs or merge of documents when requested.
• Maintains accurate files including facilitating requests for files made by other departments; where applicable, timely processing of files requested by customers or other third-parties; preparing files for off-site storage or scanning; and tracking files outside of the department.
• Maintains and orders office supplies and equipment. Renews maintenance contracts.
• Responsible for purchase requisitions, check requests, and monitoring budget.
• Performs accurate and efficient data entry for selected databases, including time and attendance as requested.
• Performs secretarial and receptionist duties including, but not limited to, assisting department leadership; answering department telephone and recording complete messages; collect, sort and distribute all incoming and outgoing mail; greet and assist department visitors; schedule and prepare materials as requested for meetings and appointments; schedule travel; coordinate meetings.
• Responsible for preparation, accuracy, and completeness of office communication including correspondence with other departments/individuals, preparation and distribution of minutes, and other documents as requested. Coordinate departmental meetings and other activities. Prepares and distributes department information to others as requested.
