Registered nurse renders highly professional and technical nursing care to assigned patients. Provides direct and indirect patient care using the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation). PEOPLE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Develops strong relationships with physicians and healthcare providers to assure effective communication in patient care. Serves as a liaison between ancillary departments, clinicians, physicians and patients to ensure efficient patient flow for service line patients.
- Functions as a subject matter expert consultant to interprofessional team members through provision of advanced assessment skills for care. Develops educational information for the nursing units. Teaches others to critically think by verbally expressing rationale for decisions and following up by coaching and critiquing colleagues’ thought processes in complex situations.
- Serves as a patient advocate in preventing/resolving ethical issues. Facilitates interventions to relieve the patient’s/family spiritual distress.
- Contributes to improving nurse satisfaction/engagement by serving as a role model and mentor, coaching staff in effective verbal, non-verbal and written communication, which includes active listening, and facilitating teamwork with RNs, non-licensed and interprofessional staff, as evidenced by the annual RN-RN teamwork score and interprofessional relationship score.
SERVICE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Coordinates aspects of patient care and development into the population-specific program through personalized interaction.
- Assists patient care staff or may directly educate the patient and family on disease-specific guidelines and treatment options to enable patient-led treatment decisions. Educates and/or facilitates patient on introduction to program, resource referrals, and counseling.
- Develops informational/educational resources and programs related to program services, teaching nursing care principles, advanced technical knowledge, and provides formal education to groups outside the unit.
- Strives to exceed patients and coworkers’ expectations. Drives department activities to improve department score for patient satisfaction on unit-based scorecard, through peer-to-peer accountability.
QUALITY/SAFETY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Actively participates in a wide range of performance improvement activities by recommending and leading improvements in patient safety-related processes at unit or service line level. Identifies key clinical priorities for improvement in the service line and compares clinical outcomes to national benchmarks and makes recommendations for improvement.
- Serves as a clinical resource for complex and/or highly specialized patient care situations to patient care providers and other health care professionals within the hospital and in the community. May provide clinical expertise on patient care, as needed, as the staff nurse leader to service line patients and leads the interprofessional team in implementing plan of care.
- Contributes to development of service line, hospital standards and guidelines; implements and monitors service line initiatives that improve designated core measure compliance. Involved in various data management activities, which may include abstraction, analysis and presentation. Insures appropriate data is collected and submitted to appropriate databases for service lines supported.
FINANCE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Implements department strategies to achieve financial target on unit-based scorecard and mentors others to do the same through timely documentation of care, decreasing length of stay, optimizing efficiency, and other areas according to department specifications.
- Participates in decisions impacting operational and capital needs as appropriate.
GROWTH/INNOVATION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Leads and identifies opportunities for practice changes. Develops, facilitates and participates with others in identifying needs, developing, presenting and implementing educational programs within the assigned service line areas for hospital health care providers, patients, families and/or community groups.
- Attends workshops and other educational programs, to ensure awareness of current developments and trends. Stays up to date with professional organizations standards and submit abstracts to national conferences. Incorporates evidence-based practices which are presented to shared governance and leadership. Expands individual nursing knowledge and coaches staff to grow in knowledge, abilities, skills, and attitudes. Completes and updates the individual development plan (IDP) on an on-going basis

Principal Accountabilities
Schedules patient appointments and enters required information in the computer system in an accurate and timely manner.
Obtains demographic, insurance and financial information from patient or guarantor. Enters information in computer system with a high degree of accuracy.
Explains all required forms to the patient or guarantor and obtains the necessary signatures.
Ensures medical necessity compliance by obtaining necessary data, reviewing Compliance System, communicating information to patient or guarantor and obtaining necessary signatures.
Protects the financial integrity of the facility by collecting patient liability, establishing payment arrangements, discussing payment options and screening for eligibility.
Verifies insurance eligibility and benefits and ensures all notifications and authorizations are completed within the required timeframes.
Posts payments in the computer system and generates the appropriate patient receipts.
Monitors, reviews and resolves patient account issues on assigned reports.
Communicates in an effective and professional manner with Physicians, ancillary departments, nursing units, physicians’ office staff, insurance companies, as well as patients and their families ( all Patient Access customers). Completes thorough and accurate documentation.
Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors; adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity and quality of service.

Job Summary
Assesses patients, develops and initiates treatment plan based on the results of the evaluation. The evaluation may include measurements of neuromuscular and skeletal functions. Provides direct patient care. Documents findings, progress and instruction to patients and caregivers. Assists Level III physical therapists and leadership with program development. Serves as resource to staff PTs. Provides training and guidance to students and interns. Responsible for patient care performed by assistants and rehabilitation technicians.Job Description
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Bachelors or graduate degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited university-based Physical Therapy program
Licenses/Certifications:
Current license to practice Physical Therapy by Texas Board of Physical Therapy Examiners or by the Physical Therapy Compact Commission.
Current Certification in Basic Life Support.
A physical therapist practicing direct access:
Education: Doctoral degree along with a residency or fellowship program, OR
Licensed therapist with 30 hours of continuing competence activities in differential diagnosis
Licenses/Certifications:
Current license to practice Physical Therapy by Texas Board of Physical Therapy Examiners or by the Physical Therapy Compact Commission.
Experience / Knowledge / Skills:
At least two (2) years clinical experience required or completion of an accredited residency program
The position requires occasional/frequent lifting of up to 75/100 pounds and carrying of up to 30 pounds; prolonged standing; frequent walking, stooping and squatting
Fine hand dexterity, eye-hand coordination, the ability to receive oral and written communication, and to communicate verbally and in writing are also necessary
The visual ability to monitor instruments, computers and equipment, recognize alphanumeric characters, distinguish colors and observe physical characteristics are essential to this position
Principal Accountabilities
Assumes responsibility in the care of the patient. Performs complete, comprehensive evaluation of patients. Accurately interprets evaluation findings. Completes a written plan of care, develops goals based on evaluation findings, and develops a comprehensive program to attain goals.
Implements a physical therapy treatment program and provides advanced physical therapy treatments. Demonstrates competency in performing advanced physical therapy skills. Responsible for patient care performed by assistants and rehabilitation technicians. Assesses patients regularly to monitor progress towards treatment goals, and alters goals, plan or program as indicated. Motivates and instructs patient/caregiver using appropriate methods.
Communicates effectively with patients/caregivers, professional colleagues to include physicians and insurance companies.
Manages time effectively.
Documents appropriately in the medical record and completes other documentation duties accurately and efficiently.
Serve as a clinical resource, mentor, and clinical instructor to staff, students, hospital, schools and/or the community in general.
Actively pursues clinical expertise in specific treatment techniques or management of a particular patient population.
Actively participates in organized system/facility/departmental committees and taskforce.
Presents relevant special topics in professional literature at clinic meetings, grand rounds, conferences, university settings and meetings as delegated or requested by the faculty.
Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors; adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity and quality of service.
Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; may serve as preceptor, mentor and resource to less experienced staff.
