Research Scientist in Molecular Bacteriology- Department of Oral Medicine, Atrium Health-Wake Forest School of Medicine, Charlotte, NC USA
Job Summary: The Research Scientist is responsible for conducting basic and translational research for biomarker discovery for oral and systemic diseases. The individual will use molecular microbiology, molecular biology, cellular biology, and biochemistry investigation methodologies in bench research. The individual undertakes research studies in areas defined by department leadership. Responsibilities will include all aspects of research from protocol and experimental design, study implementation in the laboratory, data analysis and interpretation, independent grant writing and submission, abstract and manuscript preparation, presentation at meetings., and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students. All work will be conducted with minimum of direct supervision as defined by the department’s directors of research.
Education, Training, and Experience
Ph.D., MD-PhD, DDS-PhD and/ or other doctoral degrees with appropriate research experience during prior graduate and postdoctoral education needed in microbiology, molecular and cellular biology, and biochemistry. Postdoctoral training in reputable labs using contemporary biomedical research approaches. Experience in biostatistics or bioinformatics and clinical outcome research is a plus. Experience in basic and translational research in oral Medicine preferred.
The ability to develop novel research projects and implement them into laboratory is essential. Excellence in oral and written communication skills is required. Prior publications demonstrated required. Demonstrated grant funding preferred. Organizational, time management, and planning capabilities needed. Demonstrated ability to be self-motivated, energetic, and to work effectively in a team environment.

The individual undertakes research studies in areas defined by the Lab Directors or designee. Responsibilities will include all aspects of research from protocol and experimental design, study implementation in the laboratory, data analysis and interpretation, independent grant writing and submission, abstract and manuscript preparation, and presentation at meetings. All work will be conducted with minimum of direct supervision as defined by the director of the laboratory. Experience in biostatistics, bioinformatics, basic and translational research in oral Medicine preferred.
Essential Functions
- Performs searches in bioreository, genomic and bioinformatic databases, analyzes data, and prepares presentations.
- Provides instruction and mentors to residents, post-doctoral fellows, students and research associates on the fundamentals of Oral Medicine Research, evidence-based medicine, research principles, and methodologies.
- Develops and Performs basic science and clinical translational research projects related, but not limited, to oral medicine, cancer, and autoimmune diseases.
- Collaborates on projects on the basic and clinical and translational aspects of oral medicine
- Generates data quality check, data reports and analysis and writes progress reports.
- Writes manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals.
- Prepares abstracts and presents research findings at local and national meetings.
- Conceives, develops, writes, and submits grant funding.
- Participates in safety and quality assurance activities.
physical Requirements
Involves long periods of sitting or standing and some walking. Routine lifting of documents, supplies, equipment, solutions and chemicals required.
Education, Experience and Certifications
MD and/or Ph.D. with at least 3 years of relevant post-doctoral research in biochemistry, molecular biology, cell biology, or relevant biomedical fields preferred. Published in respected journals with high report factors preferred.

Requires continuous walking, bending, stooping, lifting up to 50-pounds; also pushing, pulling, reaching, climbing ladders that is generally inside. Contact with water and cleaning solution, potentially contaminated waste, including sharps and other bio-hazardous waste. Where You Will Work:
4 North is a 29-bed Cardiac Medical Telemetry unit that specializes in the treatment of new onset medical conditions and continuum of care for a diverse population of adult patients. Common medical conditions addressed by our healthcare team include, but are not limited to congestive heart failure, pulmonary edema, hypertension, stroke, cardiac arrhythmias, endocarditis, and initial cardiac work up for chest pain and/or shortness of breath. Initial cardiac work up typically includes prepping patients for cardiac stress test.
Expectations We’re Looking For:
- 1 year of inpatient nursing experience preferred. At least 6 months required experience to come in outside of the New Grad residency program.
- Completion of an accredited or approved program in nursing.
- Registered Nurse license issued by the state in which the teammate practices
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association

Sanger Heart & Vascular Institute, a part of Atrium Health, is looking for a Cardiology Acute Care NP or PA to join our team. This role is an autonomous part of our team-based care model on our Inpatient General Cardiology Service at Atrium Health- Mercy, a facility of Carolinas Medical Center.

The Mercy Cardiology Service is exclusively staffed by APPs, with remote cardiology physician supervision. The service is consult only.
Our ideal candidate is highly motivated with superb communication and organization skills with a commitment to provide quality care to the patients we serve in the Greater Charlotte community.
The APP will be part of a broader team of specialized cardiology MDs and APPs. The APP will perform daily rounding, new consults, order appropriate laboratory studies and other diagnostic studies, and formulate assessments and plans independently. The APP should be competent in taking medical histories, assessing medical conditions, and interpreting medical findings. The APP should be able to implement effective communication skills with both patients and colleagues that demonstrate a commitment to consistently provide an excellent patient experience for every patient. The APP must maintain quality assurance and quality control standards.
CARDIOLOGY AGACNP or PA:
- Responsible for daily rounding as well as triaging and completing new inpatient consults.
- Evaluate, diagnose, and treat common cardiac conditions to both new patients in the Emergency Department and established patients on the medical and surgical services.
- Order and facilitate diagnostic studies, including but not limited to echocardiograms, ECGs, and stress tests, as well as appropriate laboratory studies.
- Explain necessity, preparation, risks and benefits of scheduled diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to the patient and family.
- Document efficiently, thoroughly, and thoughtfully.
- Recognize emergency situations and respond appropriately.
- Coordinate appropriate transfers to facilitate higher level of care.
- Participate in evaluations with the primary supervising physician as directed by State laws.
- Maintain ACLS and BLS certification as well as all licenses and certifications as mandated by the Hospital Credentialing Committee.
- Exhibit respect for others by displaying a positive, courteous attitude at all times.
- Participate in staff meetings, in-services, and continuing education for job-related growth.

Position Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited NP or PA program. Current license to practice as a NP or PA in North Carolina. Current prescriptive privileges and DEA license required. BLS/ACLS Certified.

Where You Will Work:
The Pediatric Med/Surg Float Team provides supplemental staffing across Atrium Health Levine Children's Hospital in Charlotte, NC and occasionally Atrium Health Cabarrus Levine Children's Jeff Gordon Children's Center in Concord, NC. RN's primarily support the general pediatric medical surgical units, but have the ability to cross-train in specialty areas within Levine Children's Hospital i.e., Children's ED, CVICU, PICU, Neonatal, Progressive, and obtain Chemo certification.
Opportunities for cross-training into specialty area are available based on department needs, individual performance, and seniority. Cross-training is typically considered after at least one year of experience in the role with a primary focus on medical-surgical nursing.

LCH 11P Hematology/Oncology & Bone Marrow Transplant Unit: The 11th floor of Levine Children's Hospital is our pediatric hematology/oncology & bone marrow transplant unit. We service all pediatric patients, including young adults being cared for by our pediatric specialist. We have 16 hem/onc beds and 8 bone marrow transplant beds along with a MIBG suite. We are part of a fast paced and innovative program offering unique services including phase 1 trials and MIBG therapy. The staffing ratio for hem/onc is ideally 1:3/4 and for bone marrow transplant ideally 1:2.
Expectations We’re Looking For:
- Completion of an accredited or approved program in nursing
- Candidates must have at least 6 months of RN experience, this position is not for new graduates.
- Registered Nurse license issued by the state in which the teammate practices
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association
- PALS certification is required within 6 months of hire.
- Pediatric or hem/onc inpatient experience preferred.

Where You Will Work:
LCH Pre/Post Opcurrently has 7 PreOp rooms. This area completes the preprocedural care for pediatric patients having anesthesia for a variety of procedures in the operating room, cardiac cath lab, and other non-operating room areas. The hours of operation are 0500 - 1500. Preprocedural care needed after 1500 is performed in LCH PACU as staffing allows. The PACU is separate from the LCH PreOp area and has 15 rooms. The staff ratio is 1:2 Phase I pediatric patients or up to 3 Phase II patients. Pediatric patients are taken direct to the PACU after anesthesia from the operating room, cardiac cath lab, and other non-operating room areas. Neonatal intensive and neonatal progressive care patients do not recover in LCH PACU. This area operates 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. Plans for significant PreOp and PACU expansion are projected for Q3 of 2027.

Our comprehensive services include systemic therapy, intravesical therapy, testosterone replacement, androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) injections, and management of Foley catheters, suprapubic tubes (SPT), and percutaneous nephrostomy (PCN). Our multidisciplinary care team consists of surgeons, medical oncologists, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, medical assistants, nurse navigators, social workers, care coordinators, dietitians, and pharmacists—working collaboratively to provide patient-centered cancer care. We’re Looking For:
Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing required. BSN required. RN candidates for external hire or internal promotion without BSN must be enrolled in a BSN program upon hire/transfer date and must complete program within 3 years of enrollment in the program.

Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association

Where You Will Work
Atrium Health Jeff Gordon Children's Foundation Pediatric Infusion Center is located in the Medical Center Plaza building in Charlotte, NC. In the infusion center we administer chemotherapy, blood and platelet transfusions, IVIG, biologic therapies, enzyme replacement treatments, and supportive care such as IV hydration, antibiotics, and iron infusions, supporting patients across specialties including hematology/oncology, immunology, gastroenterology, neurology, and rheumatology. This infusion center also has a procedural suite in which we complete lumbar punctures, bone marrow aspirations, and sedated IUD placement. - Prepares and rooms the patient for exam by obtaining vital signs and documenting/updating pertinent health information (i.e. chief complaint, allergies, medications).
- Performs laboratory procedures (i.e. strep test, wound culture, specimen collection, etc.) using principles of aseptic technique and standard precautions / infection control guidelines.
- Assists the physician/provider with procedures and surgeries such as pelvic exams, allergy scratch testing, EMG, cautery, colposcopy, etc.
- Administers medications, under physician/provider orders, including: immunizations, antibiotics, pain medications, vitamins, topical agents, and insulin. With limitations, initiates, maintains and discontinues IV therapy; administering selected fluids with pre-mixed medications.
- Provides basic patient education on the performance of tasks, skills, treatment and self-care. Follows through with necessary procedure or test requests, prescription refills, new appointment times and referrals to other facilities or services. Refers questions to registered nurses and physicians/providers per scope of practice guidelines and relays information back to patient as directed.
- Communicates with physicians and other members of the health care team. Documents and communicates accurate and timely information regarding patient conditions.
- Performs advanced clinical tasks or skills such as removal of sutures and staples, catheterization, audiograms, laboratory procedures (throat/nose culture, drug screen, phlebotomy - butterfly, venous access, heel stick), EKG, spirometry, Holter monitor application, casting, complex wound care, etc., with demonstrated competency and under clinical supervision.
- Organizes and prepares exam rooms, lab and work areas including: cleaning, stocking, ordering supplies, and maintaining equipment. Performs various patient positioning and transporting duties, which require lifting and pushing/pulling, while utilizing proper technique.
- Completes routine maintenance and quality monitoring of clinic equipment using appropriate technique when cleaning, sterilizing and caring for instruments and other equipment.
- Participates in patient centered initiatives, care management, performance and quality improvement activities.
- Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Essential Functions
- Completes daily Procurement Requisitions for products and services received from departments and/or assigned commodity groups.
- Audits and reviews as the final gatekeeper of purchase transactions to ensure the purchase has received approval and is appropriate. Uses departmental standards and judgment to review factors including appropriate method of purchase, dollar value, purchase quantity, unit of measure, etc.
- Utilizes the most appropriate method of order processing to gain maximum efficiency and throughput. Follows established guidelines for order transmission type (EDI, phone, etc.). Follows policies and procedures that ensure the most cost-effective methods of procurement.
- Reviews all non-file purchase order lines and ensures sufficient information has been entered. If insufficient information has been provided, follows up to obtain additional information.
- Processes orders to meet delivery expectations of internal departments by ensuring orders are sourced and requested in a time-appropriate manner. Ensures that scheduled arrival of products or services coincides with requested delivery date.
- Provides follow-up on orders by reviewing appropriate reports (expediting / open orders) and supplier confirmations. Reviews open orders and provides notification to internal departments of delays in delivery. Works with departments to obtain substitute products, if required.

Major Responsibilities:
Establishes and maintains effective working relationships to improve patient outcomes including active participation on workgroups.
Performs intra-data analysis and quality measures to assure the data meets various database and internal data quality standards.
Extracts and manipulates data to perform trend calculations, identify benchmarking opportunities and business needs, and measure process or organizational performance. Extracts patterns from data to transform data into information.
Analyzes, compiles, researches, and validates data to ensure accuracy and appropriateness of analytics. Presents, displays, and calculates various statistics displaying analysis results. May assist others with data cleansing and more complex statistical analysis.
Participates in performance improvement activities by identifying appropriate data sources and requested analysis.
Prepares and presents specified site data on a routine bases to site leadership and other clinical specialty teams as requested. Prepares clinical data requests within specified timeline. Coordinates informational training sessions to assure individuals understands data functions and definitions.
Facilitates leadership's and staff's interpretation of data by developing narrative and quantitative reports (charts, tables, or graphs) depicting analysis results, recommendations, forecasting, and performance.
Identifies and implements opportunities for increasing business efficiency by developing new methods for automating or improving data collection, validation, and benchmarking activities.
Defines data to go into database systems based on leadership and end-user specifications to advance departmental/organizational data collection, analysis, and reporting capabilities.
Ensures data is provided in a manner that is consistent and compliant with applicable laws, regulations, legal agreements, policies and procedure, and/or other standards.

Utilizes the nursing process to assess, plan, diagnose, implement, and evaluate nursing care, engaging patients and families through the continuum of care.

Minimum Job Requirements
Education
Graduate of a Board of Nursing approved nursing education program.
Certification / Registration / License

Must be able to lift and support the weight of 35 pounds in handling patients, medical equipment, and supplies.
Must be able to: push/pull with 30 lbs. of force and perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with a second person present.
Must have functional speech, vision, hearing, and touch with ability to use fine hand manipulation skills for IV insertion and other procedures/functions.
Maneuver foot pedals on carts or machines.
Perform physical safety interventions such as patient restraint and verbal de-escalation, if needed.
May be exposed to chemical and hazardous waste as well as blood and body fluids and communicable disease. Therefore, protective clothing and equipment must be worn as necessary.
Must be able to respond quickly to changes in patient and/or unit conditions.
