Responsible for the direct provision of patient care and for assisting the manager with daily operations to include but not limited to coordination of patient care/outcomes, allocation of human and fiscal resources, communications, patient throughput, program development and oversight, patient, physician and employee rounding, selection, development, and retention of staff, clinical supervision and performance appraisal, performance improvement activities, service recovery and compliance with regulatory agency requirements. Maintains clinical and professional competency as appropriate to the population of patients served.
Essential Functions
- Supports the manager utilizing systematic approaches to enhance the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice, nursing service administration and delivery of care in the department
- Assists with interview, selection, and supervision of nursing personnel in the department
- Assists with coordination of communication at regular intervals throughout shifts via staff meetings/huddles to exchange information/ promote dialogue with teammates
- Collaborates with manager to ensure understanding and compliance with federal and state laws, to include healthcare services and practice, while complying with all required regulations and policies
- Rounds on patients, teammates, and physicians at prescribed frequencies to gain insight into patient care, employee, and physician satisfaction and appropriateness of patient care and/or department operations
- Delegates elements of care to appropriate healthcare workers in accordance with applicable legal or policy parameters or principles
- Assists in identifying expected outcomes to provide direction for continuity of care/department operations
- Assists in evaluating progress towards goal attainment/achievement of expected outcomes and disseminates information to teammates involved with the care or the situation
- Performs nursing care, assists with treatments, therapies, procedures, and administers medications as necessary
- Coordinates management of patient flow/throughput and staffing through continuous assessment of volume/acuity needs, utilizing resources available to assist in provision of appropriate staffing resources
Work requires walking, standing, sitting, lifting, reaching, stooping, bending, pushing, and pulling. Must be able to lift and support the weight of 35 pounds in handling patients, medical equipment, and supplies. Must speak and understand English fluently. Intact sense of sight, hearing, smell, and touch. Finger dexterity. Critical thinking and ability to concentrate.

$51.05 - $76.60Atrium Health Levine Cancer Institute is looking for an experienced full-time Advanced Practice Provider (APP) specialized in Hematology/Oncology to provide quality health services to the patients in the Charlotte and surrounding community. This position is occupied by AGACNP/ACNP nurse practitioners (NP) and/or physician assistants (PA) who care for patients in the hospital as they go through diagnosis/treatment of Hematologic Malignancies. The APP is responsible for evaluating and treating patients with hematologic malignancies and/or hematologic disorders, stem cell transplant patients CAR-T, and clinical trial patients.
Position Description:
- Inpatient, CMC-Main
- Combination of 10-13-hour shifts, No call, approximately 10-12 weekends a year
- Rotating holidays required
- Teaching opportunities with APP and Physician Fellows
- Bone Marrow Biopsy and Aspirate skill will be part of training
Position Qualifications:
- Graduation from an accredited NP or PA program. Must be Acute Care NP or Physician Assistant. Current license to practice as a NP or PA in North Carolina. Current prescriptive privileges and DEA license required. BLS for healthcare provider from AHA required.
- Nurse practitioners are required to have a master’s degree or doctorate in nursing practice. **AGACNP/ACNP certification required.**
- Physician Assistants with certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants preferred. Current or pending CAQ certification preferred.
- 1+ years of experience as a provider preferred. Hematology/Oncology experience preferred but not required.
- Demonstrates appropriate critical thinking and interpersonal skills when working in a fast paced, high acuity work environment. Able to perform thorough history and physical assessment. Able to work with multidisciplinary team.

- Creates the initial electronic health record that serves as the foundation of the patient medical record that is utilized by all members of the healthcare team. Prevents creation of duplicate medical records that can cause treatment safety issues and billing problems. Follows and ensures compliance with the mandate of the organization’s accrediting bodies to use identifiers to positively identify a patient prior to the delivery of patient care to ensure patient safety.
- Checks in and registers patients; obtains and verifies complete demographic, guarantor, and insurance information; discusses and collects co-pays and other out-of-pocket patient responsibilities. Obtaining accurate information at the point of registration helps ensure timely payment to the organization and prevents billing issues and patient complaints. Maintains complete confidentiality regarding patient personal/financial information and medical records in accordance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
- Knows insurance basics and recognizes commercial and government plans. Understands which plans Advocate Health contracts with and when a statement of financial responsibility is needed. Understands and discusses financial information and obligations with patients. Knows how and when to refer patients to Financial Advocates.
- Has knowledge of which rules, forms and questions must be enforced to make sure Advocate Health remains compliant with government agencies and regulations. Examples are HIPAA, Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act (EMTALA), Consent for Treatment, Patient Rights and Responsibilities, Important Message from Medicare (IMM), Medicare Outpatient Observation Notice (MOON), Notice of Privacy Practices, Medicare Secondary Payer Questionnaire (MSPQ), Advanced Beneficiary Notice (ABN). - Generates, distributes, collects, and deposits fees/cash accurately and timely for copies of medical information, workers compensation and specialty forms, ensuring prompt posting of revenue.
- Reviews and transcribes physician and clinical documentation from patient medical records onto forms accurately and timely, while also interpreting, assigning, and documenting clinical information related to the condition and diagnosis included in the form requests.Performs follow-up on all form completion requests to ensure patient satisfaction by meeting established key performance indicators.

Where You Will Work:
Atrium Health Levine Cancer Outpatient Transplant and Cellular Therapy- This is an ambulatory infusion style pod with 15 chairs that is open 7 days a week from 0700-1900 to support the needs of transplant and cellular therapy patients. This team will help prepare patients for transplants by administering chemotherapy, administer cellular therapy products, and support patients during the acute phase after receiving the cellular therapy with IV medications, electrolyte replacement, blood products and other supportive care measures. This program is an extension of our already existing Transplant and Cellular Therapy program that was established 10 years ago and has completed more than 1200 transplants. This is an exciting opportunity to be a part of the original outpatient TCT team!
We’re Looking For:
- Completion of an accredited or approved program in nursing
- Registered Nurse license issued by the state in which the teammate practices
- Three years clinical experience with demonstrated clinical expertise and management abilities
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Oncology experience preferred.
- Proficiency in IV therapy, bone marrow, spinals, thoracenteses, paracenteses and phlebotomy preferred.
- Oncology certification preferred.
What You’ll Do:
- Plans and supervises safe, efficient, and economical nursing care in compliance with nursing standards, hospital policies and procedures, and regulatory agency requirements
- Assesses delivery of patient care, helps with patient/family teaching, identifies problems, and makes improvements as necessary. Assesses nursing care needs by making patient rounds, or unit/departmental rounds
- Participates in providing patient care as necessary and assists in emergencies. Assists in the care of grieving families; oversees the disposition of patients who have died.
