As a Front Desk Patient Financial Services Representative, you'll work collectively with a dedicated group of healthcare professionals to ensure patients have a positive experience. POSITION SUMMARY
This position coordinates a smooth patient flow process by answering phones, scheduling patient appointments, providing registration of patient and insurance information, obtaining required signatures following established processes, procedures and standards. This position also verifies insurance coverage, validates referrals and authorizations, collects patient liability and provides financial guidance to patients to maximize medical services reimbursement efforts. This also includes accurately posting patients at the point of service and releasing information in accordance with organizational and compliance policies and guidelines.
CORE FUNCTIONS
1. Performs registration/check-in processes, including but not limited to performing data entry activities, providing patients with appropriate information and intake forms, obtaining necessary signatures and generating population health summary.
2. Verifies insurance eligibility benefits for services rendered with the payors and documents appropriately. Assists in obtaining or validating pre-certification, referrals, and authorizations
3. Calculates and collects patient liability according to verification of insurance benefits and expected reimbursement. Explains and provides financial policies and available resources for alternative payment arrangements to patients and their families.
4. Enters payments/charges for services rendered and performs daily payment/charge reconciliation in a timely and accurate manner. Balances cash drawer at the beginning and end of the day and prepares daily bank deposit with necessary paperwork sent to centralized billing for record purposes.
5. Schedules office visits and procedures within the medical practice(s) and external practices as necessary. Maximizes reimbursement by scheduling patients in accordance with payor plan provisions. Confirms patient appointments for the following day as necessary and ensures patients are properly prepared for visits.
6. Demonstrates proactive interpersonal communications skills while dealing with patient concerns through telephone calls, emails and in-person conversations. Optimizes patient flow by using effective customer service/communication skills by communicating to internal and external customers, care team, management, centralized services and HIMS.
7. Assists in responding to requests for patient medical records according to company policies and procedures, and state and federal laws.
8. Provides a variety of patient services to assist in patient flow including but not limited to escorting patients, taking vitals and patient history, assisting in patient treatment, distributing mail and fax information, ordering supplies, etc.
9. Works independently under regular supervision and follows structured work routines. Works in a fast paced, multi-task environment with high volume and immediacy needs requiring independent decision making and sound judgment to prioritize work and ensure appropriateness and timeliness of each patient’s care. This position requires the ability to retain large amounts of changing payor information/knowledge crucial to attaining reimbursement for the services provided. Primary external customers include patients and their families, physician office staff and third party payors.
Performs all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, as well as applicable professional standards. Provides all customers of Banner Health with an excellent service experience by consistently demonstrating our core and leader behaviors each and every day.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge.
Requires knowledge of patient financial services, financial, collecting services or insurance industry experience processes normally acquired over one or more years of work experience. Requires the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously with minimal supervision and to work independently.
Requires strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills to effectively interact with a wide range of audiences. Strong knowledge in the use of common office software, word processing, spreadsheet, and database software are required.
Employees working at Banner Behavioral Health Hospital, BTMC Behavioral, and BUMG, BUMCT, or BUMCS in a Behavioral Health clinical setting that serves children must possess an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card at the time of hire and maintain the card for the duration of their employment. An Arizona Criminal History Affidavit must be signed upon hire.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Work experience with the Company’s systems and processes is preferred. Previous cash collections experience is preferred.

Performs laboratory testing of biological specimens in an acute setting in any/all specialty areas using manual or automated techniques. Uses independent judgment and cognitive skills to report timely and accurate laboratory results.
Major Responsibilities:
- Performs, evaluates, and monitors laboratory tests as authorized within established protocols, selecting and performing additional procedures when indicated. Monitors workflow and makes necessary adjustments to complete work in an appropriate timeframe.
- Evaluates results for clinical significance, validity and appropriateness. Follows prescribed policy in the reporting and notification of test results.
- Performs and documents calibration and maintenance of instruments and equipment. Performs and documents quality control; evaluates quality control results and takes corrective action when indicated.
- Recognizes indicators of test and/or instrument malfunction and makes basic corrections by using prescribed strategies, or notifies the Medical Technologist, site coordinator or supervisor. Performs internal and external proficiency testing in the same manner as patient samples.
- Collects specimens from newborn, pediatric, and adult patients according to established protocol. Ascertains specimens are properly labeled and suitable for testing.
- Provides technical assistance to Phlebotomists and support staff.
- Assists in improving the quality and efficiency of laboratory procedures, policies, and processes. Ensures compliance with all accrediting agency standards, supporting CAP Regulatory requirements in an acute setting,
- Performs all internal and external proficiency testing in the same manner as patient samples.
- Performs specialty testing in areas including transfusion services, microbiology, chemistry, hematology, histology, coagulation, and flow cytometry. Supports the disease specific accreditations of an institution by meeting turn- around time goals.
- Provides direct support and timely, accurate laboratory results for critical care departments such as the ED, ICU and OR during a high acuity patient event. This includes transfusion services, attending codes, performing testing on irretrievable samples, tissue grinding and gram stains, mass casualty procedures, and mass transfusion procedures.
- Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures. Age-specific information is developed further in the departmental job standards.
Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:
- Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) certification issued by the American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP BOC) needs to be obtained within 1 year, or
- Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) certification issued by the American Medical Technologists (AMT) needs to be obtained within 1 year.
Education Required:
- Associate's Degree in Clinical Lab Technician or related field.

As a Pathology Research Technician, you play a vital role in supporting pathologists and researchers in the study and diagnosis of diseases. This position is responsible for performing routine to complex autopsy and laboratory diagnostic and research procedures including histological slide preparation; cutting and staining paraffin-embedded and frozen sections. Leads a rapid-response autopsy team.
CORE FUNCTIONS
1. Performs various laboratory tests in accordance with standard practice. These include histological procedures such as tissue fixation, tissue sectioning on paraffin, cryostat and sliding freezing microtomes and staining sections with classical stains such as hematoxylin and eosin, silver stains such as Gallyas and Campbell-Switzer as well as with immunohistochemical methods. Labeling and filing of slides. Biochemical methods that are part of standard practice may include preparation of fresh and frozen single-cell suspensions, processing of cerebrospinal fluid and blood, western blotting, ELISA, RNA and DNA isolation and Bioanalyzer analysis.
2. Documents laboratory test results verbally, in personal laboratory notebook, in dedicated shared laboratory binders as well as on workflow files on the network computer (Excel spreadsheet).
3. Labware supplies and preparation including buffers, fixatives and stain components; cleaning of labware, including manual cleaning and dishwasher; ordering and maintaining lab supplies and autopsy supplies.
4. Performs duties for on-call brain autopsy program including carrying a cell phone and/or pager when on duty, responding by phone to calls 24/7 within 10 minutes of being called, reporting for duty at morgue within one and a half hours of being called, receiving the body from the transport company according to standard protocols, performing the role of brain team leader or body team leader, dissecting and processing the brain or body according to standard protocols, supervising an assistant during these protocols, and completing all documentation related to the autopsy. Responsible for updating information in the shared database.
5. Performs related work, which may include assisting with animal surgery, analysis of microscopic slides, data analysis, review and summary of scientific literature and drafting of scientific publications. This may involve working solo or with a team.
6. Customers are primarily internal to the organization. Occasionally does come into contact with outside vendors, couriers and professionals who bring specimens to the laboratory or take specimens/human remains from the laboratory/morgue.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor of Science degree in biology or biosciences.
Incumbent must maintain absolute confidentiality regarding human subject identity and must have ability to communicate sufficiently to perform duties in a manner consistent with departmental scope of services and standards.

BEHAVIORAL HEALTH - Samaritan Hospital Registered Nurse
Our Behavioral Health Unit provides you the opportunity to work with mental health patients. We serve persons who are experiencing a severe psychiatric crisis and in need of an inpatient setting for safety, care and treatment to stabilize the immediate crisis. Treatment is individualized and quality care is provided that best suits the needs of our patients. There is an emphasis on maintaining safety, medication stabilization and the development of individualized coping skills in response to the crisis.
You will support your main unit, but be cross-trained in all four units. Varying shifts available in the following units:
Adult Psych Unit - We are a 26 bed Inpatient Adult Psych unit caring for the stabilization of acute symptoms of the psychiatrically impaired population. During the course of admission, we address acute psychiatric intervention and facilitate discharge planning to facilitate safe transitions to the next level of care or return to the community. The patients we serve frequently have comorbid medical and/or substance use illnesses. We are supported by an interdisciplinary team comprised of psychiatrists, NPP, clinicians, nurses and patient care technicians. We also work collaboratively with a covering Medical Group and all specialties are available to us by consult.
Senior/Geriatric Psych Unit – This is a 20 bed unit. This unit addresses the medical and psychiatric needs of aging patients experiencing mental health and substance abuse problems. The unit is not designed to treat a primary diagnosis of dementia. Treatment of mental health issues in seniors requires careful attention to co-existing medical illnesses that are common to this population. Treatment and discharge planning focuses on helping patients remain in the most independent living environment possible after discharge. Patients admitted to this unit are typically 55 years of age or older, although patients under 55 may be admitted if they are in need of acute psychiatric treatment and have medical complications that may prohibit them from being admitted to the Adult Mental Health Unit or MICA Unit.
MICA (Mentally Ill/Chemically Addicted) - This unit is a 14 bed unit. Drug addiction rehab program to help people suffering from both mental illness and substance abuse. Treating the two disorders as well as their interaction. The needs of the mentally ill/chemically addicted (MICA) client are unique. Our specialized MICA services, designed specifically for the dually diagnosed individual, are flexible to accommodate individuals with varying functional levels.
CRISIS ER - Crisis is a 6 bed, locked unit within the emergency department. Patients are evaluated during a mental health crisis for safety to determine whether or not they require admission to one of our inpatient Behavioral Health units or can be safely discharged back into the community with outpatient support. Patients are referred to Crisis through the main emergency department or brought directly to Crisis via police or ambulance. We serve patients through adolescence to geriatrics.

Our Behavioral Health Unit provides you the opportunity to work with mental health patients. We serve persons who are experiencing a severe psychiatric crisis and in need of an inpatient setting for safety, care and treatment to stabilize the immediate crisis. Treatment is individualized and quality care is provided that best suits the needs of our patients. There is an emphasis on maintaining safety, medication stabilization and the development of individualized coping skills in response to the crisis.
You will support your main unit, but be cross-trained in all four units. Varying shifts available in the following units:
Adult Psych Unit - We are a 26 bed Inpatient Adult Psych unit caring for the stabilization of acute symptoms of the psychiatrically impaired population. During the course of admission, we address acute psychiatric intervention and facilitate discharge planning to facilitate safe transitions to the next level of care or return to the community. The patients we serve frequently have comorbid medical and/or substance use illnesses. We are supported by an interdisciplinary team comprised of psychiatrists, NPP, clinicians, nurses and patient care technicians. We also work collaboratively with a covering Medical Group and all specialties are available to us by consult.
Senior/Geriatric Psych Unit – This is a 20 bed unit. This unit addresses the medical and psychiatric needs of aging patients experiencing mental health and substance abuse problems. The unit is not designed to treat a primary diagnosis of dementia. Treatment of mental health issues in seniors requires careful attention to co-existing medical illnesses that are common to this population. Treatment and discharge planning focuses on helping patients remain in the most independent living environment possible after discharge. Patients admitted to this unit are typically 55 years of age or older, although patients under 55 may be admitted if they are in need of acute psychiatric treatment and have medical complications that may prohibit them from being admitted to the Adult Mental Health Unit or MICA Unit.
MICA (Mentally Ill/Chemically Addicted) - This unit is a 14 bed unit. Drug addiction rehab program to help people suffering from both mental illness and substance abuse. Treating the two disorders as well as their interaction. The needs of the mentally ill/chemically addicted (MICA) client are unique. Our specialized MICA services, designed specifically for the dually diagnosed individual, are flexible to accommodate individuals with varying functional levels.
CRISIS ER - Crisis is a 6 bed, locked unit within the emergency department. Patients are evaluated during a mental health crisis for safety to determine whether or not they require admission to one of our inpatient Behavioral Health units or can be safely discharged back into the community with outpatient support. Patients are referred to Crisis through the main emergency department or brought directly to Crisis via police or ambulance. We serve patients through adolescence to geriatrics.

- Identifies potential barriers to learning and/or to the optimal delivery of care. Reports abnormal findings to the responsible provider/care team and collaborates to develop a plan.
- Independently manages CM caseload according to department expectations. Ensures timely completion of tasks and documentation related to regulatory and contractual requirements.
- Partners with identified at-risk patients throughout the diagnosis, treatment and follow-up in order to deliver continuity of care. Anticipates the needs of the patient, recognizes and responds to changes in a patient’s status and determines priorities of patient care based on essential patient needs.

- Participates in admission, transfer and discharge process under supervision of RN including room set up, orientation to room, removing linen, and proper management of patient belongings. Ensures patient call light is always in reach of patient and answers call-lights promptly.
- Performs purposeful rounding under direction of RN and promptly communicates observations, concerns, and needs of patient/family to RN. Documents appropriately. Performs various patient positioning and transporting duties which require lifting and pushing/pulling while utilizing proper technique and assistive devices.
- Performs tasks related to nutritional needs of the patient under direction of RN to include diet review, tray set up/removal, proper positioning and diet selection. Performs tasks related to maintaining skin integrity to include proper repositioning and skin care. Ensures special patient supplies and appliances are provided and maintained such as TED hose and sequential compression devices.
- Collects urine, stool, and sputum specimens and performs point-of-care testing as indicated using approved process for accurate specimen labeling and identification. Maintains competency as required. Under direction of RN and as determined by site/unit requirements, may be required to remove IVs, provide post mortem care and perform bladder scans.
- Practices within policies and procedures of infection prevention by demonstrating hand hygiene and knowledge of sterile and aseptic procedures, proper disposal of contaminated materials and utilizing proper attire when in direct contact with patients in isolation.
- Coordinates tests and treatments with and between various departments for patients on nursing units. Maintains a working knowledge of functions and services offered by all diagnostic and treatment departments to facilitate the scheduling of tests and treatments. Maintains working knowledge of EHR system and other computer systems for ordering patient and unit supplies and equipment. Processes daily patient charges and/or related procedures through the system.
- Facilitates communications required to support patient care, including the multiple-line telephone, unit/site paging and the hospital information system. Screens incoming telephone calls. Monitors department office equipment and troubleshoots minor problems. Arranges repair of major malfunctions.
- Compiles necessary chart forms for admissions, transfers, discharges and expirations. Obtains appropriate copies of medical records for transfers to nursing homes and other health care facilities. Verifies medical records contain complete and accurate patient demographic information, patient identification and registration in the medical record, including appropriate level of care.

Minimum Job Requirements
Education
Graduate of a Board of Nursing approved nursing education program.
Certification / Registration / License
- Basic Life Support (BLS). Additional education, training, certifications, or experience may be required based on specialty.
- Active registered nurse (RN) multi-state compact and/or single-state license with privileges to practice in the state(s) where the RN is providing client nursing services

Experience

- Must be able to: push/pull with 30 lbs. of force and perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with a second person present.
- Must have functional speech, vision, hearing, and touch with ability to use fine hand manipulation skills for IV insertion and other procedures/functions.
- Maneuver foot pedals on carts or machines.
- Perform physical safety interventions such as patient restraint and verbal de-escalation, if needed.
- May be exposed to chemical and hazardous waste as well as blood and body fluids and communicable disease. Therefore, protective clothing and equipment must be worn as necessary.
- Must be able to respond quickly to changes in patient and/or unit conditions.

- Facilitates communications among patient/family, multidisciplinary team, medical management team, community resources and other disciplines to anticipate, identify, evaluate, and act to resolve any potential barriers and constraints to delivery of care in a timely manner. Understands and interprets multiple contracts and contractual obligations in order to enable the care management team to achieve maximum clinical and financial outcomes.
- Collaborates with the patient/family and inter-professional team including the primary care team, hospital care team, post acute care managers, and other care partners to provide a model of care that ensures the delivery of quality, efficient, and cost-effective healthcare services. May work embedded within a provider office or telephonically working with a care team.
- Uses evidenced-based approaches to increase patient and family activation and engagement in their own care. As appropriate to the population, partners with patient and family to develop SMART (specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, time-bound) goals. Assists in the development, procurement, and adoption of patient self-management educational resources.
- Identifies potential barriers to learning and/or to the optimal delivery of care. Reports abnormal findings to the responsible provider/care team, and collaborates to develop a plan.
- Independently manages CM caseload according to department expectations. Ensures timely completion of tasks and documentation related to MCO, regulatory and contractual requirements.
- Partners with identified at-risk patients throughout the diagnosis, treatment and follow-up in order to deliver continuity of care. Anticipates the needs of the patient, recognizes and responds to changes in a patient’s status and determines priorities of patient care based on essential patient needs.
- Coordinates patient information and communication between and among the patient/family, the referring/accepting facilities and physicians, community caregivers (as applicable) and other members of ACM to ensure smooth transitions of care.
- Coordinates referrals to other internal AAH departments and/or external community resources as necessary.
