Nursing Assistant - Progressive Care Unit
Full-Time 7p - 7a
Will be required to cover duties as a Unit Secretary and undergo cross-training.
The Nursing Assistant performs designated tasks in the provision of age-appropriate care for patients under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse.
Obtains and documents reported height and weighs patient on admission and documents.
Turns and positions patients every 2 hours as indicated, using proper body mechanics.
Assists and promotes activity, ambulation, up in chair and other activities as ordered.
Assists patients with personal hygiene, including as showering, bathing, shaving, shampooing, perianal-care, catheter care and oral care.
Takes and records vital signs accurately within established time frame.
Consistently performs hourly rounds to ensure patient safety and promote customer satisfaction.
Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 90 days of hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
Certified Nursing License (CNA) preferred.
Six months experience in a hospital or long-term care facility preferred.

The Registered Nurse has the responsibility and accountability for direct comprehensive nursing care for the patient from admission to discharge.

Follows the professional standards of care.

Requirements:
Associate of Science in Nursing (ADN) degree from an accredited institution.

This position’s scope includes programmatic, operational and financial oversight for 3 hospital campuses and 2 Healthplex sites within Geisinger’s Western and Northcentral regions. This pivotal role offers a unique opportunity to join our executive leadership team and spearhead transformative advancements in system-wide initiatives related to standards of high-quality care and operational excellence.Job Duties:
This position is accountable for the successful programmatic, operational, and financial management of the regional or platform operations (hospitals, outpatient facilities, ambulatory surgery centers) and for ensuring the maintenance of system-wide standards related to physician, program, and nursing standards. Lead, direct, and ensure coordination of operations of hospital and its related clinics.

*The successful candidate for this position must reside or relocate within the regions in which they will oversee.
Provides the vision and direction that aligns the assigned region or platform with the missions and goals of the clinical enterprise and the System overall.
Leads the day-to-day operations of all assigned affiliates and and or clinics; ensures system-wide standards related to high quality care are provided by maintaining System physician, programmatic, and nursing standards.
Assures the sound fiscal operation of the assigned region or platform while promoting services produced in a cost-effective manner; ensures compliance with regulatory agencies and accrediting bodies while continually monitoring service and delivery system.
Actively participates with the System and non-System medical staff and executive and senior management in the development and implementation of strategic plans.
Proactively establishes and maintains communications, positive relationships, and a culture of collaboration with non-System medical staff and supports the development of opportunities that promote cooperation and a coordinated effort to accomplish mutual goals.
Participates in the successful recruitment and retention of System and community medical staff in order to ensure the ongoing and future success of the assigned region or platform.
Works with System leadership to provide an integrated patient care system that is facile, responsive to patient and caregiver needs, efficient, safe, and produces outstanding clinical outcomes.
In conjunction with System leadership, analyzes current and future market conditions and evaluate the System’s competitive position; develops and implements strategic objectives and tactical plans that maintain the System’s competitive position in the health care market.
Establishes and attains challenging and achievable patient care, safety, education, and community service goals while ensuring financial viability.
Fosters a culture of service excellence with the goal of establishing the System as the provider and employer of choice.
Effectively engages and establishes strong positive working relationships with employees, medical staff and others in the System as well as in the community.

- Provides one to one patient safety watch as assigned following established policies and procedures.
- Accurately processes specimens and provides timely transport of the specimen to the laboratory.
- Performs point of care patient testing and point of care instrument maintenance and quality control.
- Assists in problem solving, trouble shooting and taking corrective measures in care and maintenance of equipment and supplies.
- Serves as a preceptor and mentor for new staff and students in a positive manner.
- Performs clerical duties for admissions, transfers, discharges, and deaths according to standards and facilitates patient throughput activities. Transcribes and processes orders according to unit standard.
- Releases and confirms ordered tests to appropriate departments.
- Coordinate's transportation of patients to multiple tests.
- Participates in obtaining and communicating electronic information as pertinent to the nursing unit. Schedules tests, faxes consults, etc.
- Assists in ordering supplies. Stationery items as well as floor stock, patient needs, individual nursing supplies.
- Communicates with food services to ensure appropriate patient diets.
- Operates, problem solves, and takes corrective measures for clerical equipment. To include scheduling maintenance of computers, fax machines, phones, etc.
- Staff have access to non-controlled medications storage and supply areas and can transport non-controlled medications as necessary to meet the needs of the clinic or unit.
- Assists with transporting non-controlled medications to and from Pharmacy and within the unit as needed.
- Assists with transporting blood products to and from Blood Bank as needed.
