Where You Will Work:
The Lexington Medical Center Emergency Department focuses on patient care, nursing satisfaction, safety, and teamwork as it continues to grow. The department offers 25 beds and includes specialized areas for core emergency care, super track services, and behavioral health support. Our primary focus is to provide patient-centered care while efficiently stabilizing patients and ensuring appropriate management of their disposition. As a hospital dedicated to serving the community, we offer a comprehensive 45-bed medical-surgical unit, a post-surgical area with a focus on orthopedics and urology, and an expanding critical care unit. While upholding the approachable environment characteristic of a community hospital, we are progressing as part of the Advocate system, implementing advanced technology to deliver essential healthcare services to our patients.
Expectations We’re Looking For:
- Completion of an accredited or approved program in nursing
- Registered Nurse license issued by the state in which the teammate practices
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association
- ACLS are required within 6 months of hire

The Critical Care Unit at Lexington Medical Center is a 16-bed unit that provides both Intensive and Intermediate Care. A dedicated charge nurse supports the unit without a patient assignment. The unit is equipped to monitor and trend heart rhythms and other hemodynamic pressures. Care of patients on ventilators, noninvasive ventilation with BiPAP or CPAP, and heated high flow oxygen delivery. Titrating medication IV drips to ordered parameters and the ability to follow protocols and order sets. Patient populations include sepsis, shock, respiratory failure, DKA, HHS, electrolyte abnormalities that require close monitoring, COPD, CHF, pulmonary edema, cardiac dysrhythmias, stroke, post-surgical unstable patients, hypertensive emergency that requires IV drips, overdose, ETOH detox, etc.
We’re Looking For:

Education
Required – High school diploma or equivalent
Preferred – Associate’s degree
Work Experience
Required – Minimum of 1 year of experience in a hospital, clinic, medical office, business services/revenue cycle, or other customer service-related environment. Experience may include front line registration, financial counseling, banking, retail, or similar roles involving direct customer or patient interaction.
Certifications
Preferred - Certification in Healthcare Access Manager (CHAM), Certification in Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA), Certification as a Medical Assistant (or other medical specialty-based certification)
Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs)
- Must have computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of information.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally.
- Must be proficient with Windows-style applications, various software packages specific to role and keyboard.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Must have clerical skills and exhibit technical knowledge of healthcare insurance benefits, various payor guidelines on referral and authorization processes as well as have current knowledge of Federal, State and Local billing regulations.
- Skills to effectively present information and respond to questions from patients and customers, with proficiency.
- Skills to solve practical problems and deal with high stress situations while maintaining a high quality of professionalism.
- Good organizational, time management, and conflict resolution skills.
- Excellent decision making skills; good analytical skills with a strong attention to detail are necessary.

Job Duties
- Provide excellent customer service to all patients, guests, and family members.
- Create, activate, and complete the patient scheduling, clinic registration, or hospital admission process.
- Ensures all required forms are completed and other paperwork/documents are gathered and accurate.
- Efficiently and accurately gathers and inputs patient/guarantor demographic and financial information; explains insurance benefits and collects co-pays, deductibles and self-pay portions due.
- Performs financial analysis of each case and informs patient of financial responsibility
- Balances Cash drawer daily, prepares deposit slips and follow closing cash drawer process at the end of each shift.
- Demonstrates respect and cooperation in all staff relationships, and a genuine willingness to prevent or resolve inter-personal conflicts.
- Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to: respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style.

The Registered Nurse (RN) delivers compassionate, evidence-based care designed to support healing and wellness. As a clinical nurse, you’ll spend the majority of your time (>50%) coordinating, ensuring, and providing direct patient care through:
Conducting nursing rounds, assessments, and treatments
Facilitating admissions, transfers, and discharges
Providing patient and family-centered education
Coordinating care and developing individualized treatment plans
Key Responsibilities:
Perform comprehensive assessments and develop individualized care plans based on patient needs
Administer medications and implement nursing interventions in accordance with best practices and hospital policy
Communicate effectively with patients, families, and interdisciplinary team members to ensure coordinated care
Monitor and document patient responses, revising care plans as needed
Support a culture of safety, quality improvement, and compassionate service

Minimum Education, Experience, Training and Licensures Required:
Current RN licensure or work permit in Kentucky
Bachelor’s degree in nursing from an accredited college/university or an associate degree with a minimum of ten (10) years’ experience required. In lieu of a bachelor’s degree and less than ten years’ experience, an associate degree in nursing will be acceptable for initial hire with the understanding that the individual must be enrolled within 12 months in a bachelor’s degree program and must have achieved the degree within 5 years.
Basic Life Support (Must obtain within 30 days of hire.)
ACLS/PALS/NRP and successful completion of dysrhythmia class as required by department of assignment.

The employee assists the anesthesia provider in the acquisition, preparation, and application of the anesthesia equipment and supplies required for the safe administration of anesthesia. They participate in safe, efficient and cost-effective anesthesia care. The employee provides support in anesthesia for routine and complex surgical and non-surgical cases by assisting in the preparation and maintenance of patient monitoring devices, anesthesia delivery systems, medicines, and supplies before, during, and after anesthesia cases. The employee may perform certain complex diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, at the direction of the anesthesia staff. The employee maintains inventory of supplies in rooms, cleans and stocks rooms after surgeries, and verifies drugs and supplies are not outdated. The employee may set-up drips, A-Lines and Central Lines. This employee uses sterile techniques to gown and glove, set up lines and assist the anesthesia provider with placement of lines in patient. The employee helps position the patient for surgery, assists provider with intubation and assists provider with extuation. The employee helps the provider transport patient to recovery.
Essential Functions:
• Directs ordering anesthesia supplies and prepares anesthesia equipment and supplies for the operating rooms
• Assists in maintaining equipment in proper working order, cleans and returns cleaned equipment to its proper place and stocks surgical rooms
• Assists anesthesia provider and promptly responds to page for anesthesia turnover between cases
• Responds to alarm systems to assist with trouble shooting of equipment
• Assists with patient pick up and blood product pick-up and runs ABG’s / blood glucose under the direction of an anesthesia provider

• Keeps anesthesia work room neat and orderly
• Checks other areas, including the Post-anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), Advanced Care Unit (ACU), Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and Cardiac Care Unit (CCU) for monitoring devices for patient transfer and returns them to surgery unit
• Applies aseptic technique and knowledge in the spiking of IVs & A-lines or other invasive lines
• Correctly labels/dates and applies initials to pre-set lines

Essential Functions:
- Evaluates individuals seeking behavioral health/substance use treatment and seeks justification for admission

The Assessment Clinician II evaluates individuals seeking behavioral health/substance use treatment, seeks justification for admission, and coordinates level of care expectations with physicians, Assessment Referral Center, personnel, patient care units, and external agencies and develop relationships with community partners by consistently providing quality services. The Assessment Clinician II conducts insurance pre-certifications for individuals evaluated and may provide assessment services for various patient populations including pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric.
UofL Health Medical Staff and Board of Directors under the EMTALA policy consider Assessment Referral Center Clinicians who are employed by the hospital, and qualified to perform emergency screening exams/assessments by education, experience, and demonstrated current competence, as “Qualified Medical Persons” to conduct emergency behavioral health and substance use screening exams.
Essential Functions:
- Evaluates individuals seeking behavioral health/substance use treatment and seeks justification for admission
- Conducts evaluations at local hospitals, UofL Peace Hospital and other community agencies and facilities
- Refers patients to appropriate services and assists in the intake process for those patients admitted
- Determines provisional diagnosis and discusses treatment recommendations with patient, family, and medical providers
- Coordinate’s level of care expectations with physicians, Assessment Referral Center, personnel, patient care units, and external agencies
- Develops relationships with community partners by consistently providing quality services.
- Assess the patient’s psychological, social and treatment needs through analysis of data collected from patients, their families, collateral sources such as school, outpatient therapist, and community providers
