Principal Accountabilities
- Schedules patient appointments and enters required information in the computer system in an accurate and timely manner.
- Obtains demographic, insurance and financial information from patient or guarantor. Enters information in computer system with a high degree of accuracy.
- Explains all required forms to the patient or guarantor and obtains the necessary signatures.
- Ensures medical necessity compliance by obtaining necessary data, reviewing Compliance System, communicating information to patient or guarantor and obtaining necessary signatures.
- Protects the financial integrity of the facility by collecting patient liability, establishing payment arrangements, discussing payment options and screening for eligibility.
- Verifies insurance eligibility and benefits and ensures all notifications and authorizations are completed within the required timeframes.
- Posts payments in the computer system and generates the appropriate patient receipts.
- Monitors, reviews and resolves patient account issues on assigned reports.
- Communicates in an effective and professional manner with Physicians, ancillary departments, nursing units, physicians’ office staff, insurance companies, as well as patients and their families (all Patient Access customers). Completes thorough and accurate documentation.
- Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors, adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity of service.
- Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education, skills competency, supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor, and resource to less experienced staff.
- Demonstrates commitment to caring for every member of our community by creating compassionate and personalized experiences. Models Memorial Hermann’s service standards by providing safe, caring, personalized and efficient experiences to patients and colleagues.

Essential Functions.
- Provides courteous and professional connections with patients over the phone, in person or via secure messaging. Resolves patient needs skills to ensure a superior customer experience by identifying and resolving patient needs related to patient intake and care.
- Documents all phone calls accurately and completely in the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Schedules patient appointments for visits, procedures, diagnostic tests, referrals, and/or consultations.
- Registers patients over the phone or in person by confirming, entering, and/or updating all required demographic data on patient and guarantor on the registration system. Follows procedures when identifying patients.
- Obtains copies of insurance cards, forms of ID, and signatures on all required forms. May verify information on appropriate accounts to determine insurance coordination of benefits, may include pre-certification/prior authorization .
- Assists patients in completing necessary forms to meet regulatory and billing needs prior to receiving clinical care. Scans necessary paperwork and educates patient on financial assistance. Proactively requests payments from patients on current and past medical services. Receives and processes those payments following appropriate procedures for handling payments.
- Stays current on role/responsibilities, updates etc. which may include reviewing monthly email/newsletter, ambulatory epic dashboard, patient access, work ques, attend clinic/service line meetings, review emails each shift, etc. to ensure the highest standard of performance is achieved.

The role provides clinical leadership for obstetricians, maternal fetal medicine specialists, OB hospitalists/laborists, family physicians practicing obstetrics, certified nurse midwives, advanced practice providers, and other clinicians participating in hospital obstetric care, regardless of employer affiliation.
The Medical Director will work collaboratively with hospital administration, physician leaders, nursing, operations, clinical programs, clinical shared services, quality, patient safety, medical education, research, and other supporting services. The leader will champion Intermountain Health’s mission, vision, values, Framework for Excellence, and Fundamentals of Extraordinary Care through clinical excellence, effective communication, innovation, continuous improvement, stewardship, and professional partnership.
Scope
The Medical Director - Obstetrics, St. George Regional Hospital is a hospital administrative leadership role with regional and enterprise participation expectations as appropriate. The position reports through the hospital Chief Medical Officer and collaborates closely with the, hospital administration, nursing leadership, operations leadership, the Obstetrics Department Chair or equivalent medical staff leader, the Senior Medical Director for Women’s Health, and applicable clinical program and specialty leaders.
The role encompasses obstetric care provided within St. George Regional Hospital, including Labor and Delivery, obstetric triage, antepartum services, postpartum obstetric care, inpatient and hospital-based maternal fetal medicine services, operative obstetrics, obstetric emergency response, and OB hospitalist/laborist services. The role does not include accountability for outpatient clinics or clinic operations and does not include employment decisions or direct supervisory accountability for physicians or advanced practice providers. Employment-related matters remain with each clinician’s employer. The Medical Director may participate in hospital medical staff, credentialing, privileging, peer review, quality, safety, and professional practice processes within the authority of those established structures.
Leadership Model
The Medical Director is expected to be a model obstetric clinician and physician leader, demonstrated through professional conduct and presentations; sound clinical and business judgment; integrity, passion, and energy for clinical program objectives; advocacy for Intermountain Health’s mission, vision, and values; effective communication; and reliable follow-through on responsibilities.
Essential Functions
- Provide strategic direction, clinical leadership, oversight, and support for all hospital-based obstetric services at St. George Regional Hospital.
- Lead collaboration among obstetricians and other clinicians participating in hospital obstetric care, including employed and affiliated physicians and providers, while respecting employer-specific reporting and employment structures.
- Practice medicine with excellence as an example to others, exhibiting integrity, passion, energy, professional demeanor, effective communication, and behaviors consistent with Intermountain Health’s mission, vision, values, and Framework for Excellence.

- Lead and participate in the development, standardization, and implementation of hospital obstetric care models that best meet patient needs while considering available resources, technology, innovation, and industry advancements.
- Partner with hospital nursing and operational leaders to support safe and effective care in Labor and Delivery, obstetric triage, antepartum, postpartum obstetric care, operative obstetrics, and other hospital obstetric settings.
- Provide clinical leadership for OB hospitalist/laborist services and maternal fetal medicine services delivered within the hospital, including coordination, clinical standards, and integration with the broader obstetric medical staff.
- Facilitate effective relationships and communication among hospital obstetric clinicians, department leadership, medical staff leadership, nursing, operations, and administration.
- Meet regularly with relevant leaders and clinicians to share essential information, receive feedback, identify barriers, and support successful performance of hospital obstetric services.
- Attend and participate in applicable hospital, department, medical staff, Desert Region, Women’s Health, and enterprise meetings, councils, collaboratives, and programs.

Quality, Safety, Clinical Excellence, and Medical Staff Partnership
- Oversee and advance quality, safety, stewardship, and patient experience for hospital obstetric care provided by physicians and APPs with privileges at St. George Regional Hospital.
- Assist in the development, implementation, and ongoing review of quality dashboards, departmental key performance indicators, key process indicators, and patient outcome measures for hospital obstetric services.
- Monitor and drive key performance outcomes; review results with appropriate hospital, department, nursing, operations, quality, and medical staff leaders; and identify opportunities to improve care.
- Lead or support process improvement efforts and clinical program development directed toward achievement of hospital obstetric quality, safety, utilization, stewardship, patient experience, and strategic goals.
- Participate in peer review, HEAT reviews, root cause analyses, rapid event investigations, case reviews, and other established quality and patient safety processes involving obstetric care; communicate lessons learned and support resulting clinical or protocol improvements.
- Address clinical quality, safety, professionalism, or performance concerns through appropriate hospital medical staff (Department Chair and MEC) and quality structures. Minimum Qualifications
- M.D. or D.O. degree from an accredited institution. Education is verified.

1.Manages comprehensive and individualized care for patients in the Healthy Minds Program of Behavioral Medicine.
2.Completes ACCESS clinic patient assessments and/or manages continuity patients in the Healthy Minds Program support of WVU student behavioral medicine health needs; consults and/or emergent/evaluations.
3.Completes integrated assessments.
4.With the collaboration of behavioral medicine faculty or by following established clinical Guidelines and Protocols, orders additional tests or consults as deemed appropriate.
5.Performs and communicates results of diagnostic tests following established clinical guidelines and scope of practice.
6.Consults and communicates with clinic and hospital staff regarding abnormal findings in the evaluations of patients.
7.Performs succinct comprehensive clinical evaluations and documents findings in medical record.
8.Facilitates patient discharge by coordinating appropriate services and tests prior to discharge necessary for outpatient follow-up appointments in the clinic (as applicable).
9.Develops a comprehensive individualized plan of care for behavioral medicine patients, which includes teaching, discharge planning and necessary referral to other members of the health care team as necessary.
10.Demonstrates expertise in caring for patients across the age continuum of their educational experience and certification.
11.Identifies unstable or complex behavioral medicine patient care situations and facilitates appropriate intervention in the clinic and/or hospital setting.
12.Recognizes emergency situations and initiates effective emergency care.
13.Evaluates behavioral medicine patients and serves as a coordinator for follow up procedures and tests in the ambulatory setting (as applicable).
14.Assists in the collection of outcome measures (as applicable).
15.Demonstrates critical thinking and diagnostic reasoning skills in clinical decision making by the identification, evaluation and management of the individual needs of patients/families.
16.Demonstrates the ability to utilize equipment in a safe manner.
17.Bases decisions made/actions taken on the relevant scientific principles, established standards of care and/or research findings.
18.Utilizes teaching/learning theory and appropriate teaching strategies in the provision of education to nursing staff, hospital staff, students, patients, families and the community.
19.Promotes an environment that facilitates learning by responding to appropriate patient/family preferences, priorities and readiness to learn.
20.Updates own knowledge base throughout the year.
21.Completes all identified clinical competencies.
22.Serves as a resource person for staff caring for the behavioral medicine patient.
23.Provides educational programs to professional and paraprofessional personnel in area of expertise.
24.Participates in community programs, distribution of literature, as appropriate in area of expertise.
25.Documents the plan of care, interventions and evaluations in a clear and concise manner for every patient visit in the patient’s medical record following approved hospital/UHA policies and compliance standards for documentation.
26.Collaborates with other leaders and staff to effectively achieve patient outcome based improvements in care.
27.Provides leadership in the development and implantation of changes in the behavioral medicine practice that positively impact patient outcomes.
28.Works collaboratively with medical and nursing staff to facilitate creative problem solving and provide professional support.
29.Participates and initiates inter-disciplinary approaches to patient care, program development and education. Serves as a professional role model.
30.Promotes and practices innovation of the expanded role in the delivery of care to behavioral medicine patients and families throughout the inpatient hospitalization, and the ambulatory setting.
31.Participates and provides leadership for committees and task forces.
32.Documents hours and submits billing reports, as appropriate.
33.Reviews and interprets behavioral medicine data from sources such as patient registries, clinical and financial reports, length of stay, access to care, and cost per case reports and recommends/implements changes as necessary.
34.Participates in clinical trials and research studies with the Principal Investigator.
35.Assists behavioral medicine Faculty, Administrators and Directors in the collection of outcome measures.
36.Other duties/projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Education: Master's degree in Social Work, Counseling or Psychology or related field.
Licenses/Certification: Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker - Supervisor (LCSW-S).
Experience / Knowledge / Skills:
- Three (3) years of social work field experience.
- Working knowledge/experience in case management.
- Experience in psychosocial assessment and therapeutic counseling.
- Ensures safe care to patients, staffs and visitors.
Principal Accountabilities
- Provides individual, group and family therapy to students and their families.
- Develops psychosocial treatment assessments and treatment plans (reassess to determine if strategies are working towards treatment goals).
- Establishes good working relationships with clinic staff, students, families and school staff. The LCSW must be able to work collaboratively with parents, community service providers, clinic staff and school staff to promote student emotional wellbeing, positive social skills and the achieve academic goals.
- Completes and maintain notes/documentation in the EMR (Electronic Medical Record).
- LCSW must meet their number and outcome goals annually and provide documents for statistical reports and outcomes.
- Serves as an advocate to ensure that students and families receive appropriate services.
- Participates as a member of the IEP, ARD, IAT and other school based teams to develop interventions for promoting student’s academic success.
- Conducts classroom meetings/observations to address student’s needs and advises school staff as needed on behavioral strategies.
- Attends meetings to get updates and changes regarding community services.
- Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors; adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity and quality of service.
- Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor and resource to less experienced staff.
