Our team consists of over fifty professionals that assure reimbursement for the valued services our clinical team provides.
On a monthly basis they take approximately 13,000 phone calls, generate 65,000 statements and bill approximately 57,000 claims.
Schedule: Full-time Days (40hrs/week)
What You’ll Do
Responsible for billing and collections of accounts assigned, assures account resolution in a timely manner. Assignment may include but is not limited to; posting of charges and payments, submitting clean claims, contact with external and internal customers to assure compliant billing, charge capture and payment posting.

EDUCATION

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
PEOPLE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Serves as a department resource for questions related to case management activities. Communicates in an active, positive, and effective manner to all interprofessional health care team members. Reports pertinent patient care and family data in a comprehensive and unbiased manner. Performs phone call and communication triage, troubleshoots and routes issues to appropriate individuals, assists in resolution of non-clinical issues as needed
- Facilitates and arranges acquisition of post-acute needs, as directed, and in collaboration with the clinical team. Follows payor/reimbursement practices and regulations that may impact the patient’s plan of care
- Provides appropriate and timely communication, update, and documentation to the referring personnel to keep them informed of the status of the request
- Contributes towards improvement of department scores for employee engagement, i.e. peer-to-peer accountability.
SERVICE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Assists the department in distributing required notices, including the Medicare Notice of Discharge to patients, securing signatures on the form from the patient or their legal representative, and answering questions regarding the appeal process
- Distributes the Medicare Notice of Discharges to identified patients, including capturing patient and their legal representative’s signatures, answering any questions regarding the appeal process
- Coordinates with the clinical staff to prioritize placement requests. Provides necessary documentation to facilitate post-acute services
- Assists with clerical and clinical functions for patients, physicians, and staff. Provides administrative support as needed, including scheduling follow-up appointments, and confirming the provision or delivery or post-acute services or equipment
QUALITY/SAFETY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Participates in quality improvement initiatives and collects data for use in department performance improvement as directed. Maintains timelines for follow up and prioritization of department projects and tasks
- Updates and maintains resources, information and database or directories elated to post-acute providers and insurance contacts to facilitate timely communication and coordination as needed
FINANCE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Informs social worker/case manager of the patients’ available benefits through insurance/managed care provider. Assists in providing community resources/services to uninsured patients as requested Case Management staff
- Participates in reimbursement/certification and authorization-related activities as directed. Documents approvals and authorization numbers from payors. Logs communications and provides information to social workers and case managers, business office/patient access, etc. on insurance/managed care benefits
- Supports and assists with concurrent insurance denials and appeals process, transmission of utilization reviews to insurance companies, coordination of peer discussions as directed by the clinical team. Documents authorization, approvals, and denials
GROWTH/INNOVATION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Maintains awareness of payor/reimbursement practices and regulations that may impact patient’s plan of care and confers with care coordinators and social workers to prioritize placement requests
- Seeks opportunities to identify self-development needs and takes appropriate action. Ensures own career discussions occur with appropriate management. Completes and updates the My Development Plan on an on-going basis

VCH Laboratory PathologyJob Summary:
Performs Phlebotomy with minimal guidance. Responsible for accessioning specimens or patient tissue materials for testing including packaging specimens or tissue materials to be sent out to referring laboratory. Works closely with all laboratory staff, medical staff, and external customers. Performs customer service functions including telephone etiquette and basic troubleshooting and problem resolution..
Key Responsibilities:
Performs patient check-in procedure and updates patient information as necessary in registration system.
When applicable, places generic manual orders and sends to Specimen Receiving or to the Patient Service Specialist for accessioning.
Instructs patients on proper collection of urine, stool, sputum and saliva specimens, and provides appropriate collection supplies.
Administers oral solutions for glucose tolerance testing according to established training and identifies the best method for retrieving blood samples and other specimens.
Demonstrates Credo behaviors in all interactions including explaining blood draw procedures to patients, answering any questions about the process and assisting patients, co-workers and internal customers as appropriate
Verifies patient identification with two identifiers both before and after venipuncture, labeling tubes immediately following the venipuncture in front of the patient.
Maintains specimen integrity by using aseptic technique, following department procedures and obtains blood specimens by performing venipunctures and capillary sticks according to age specific guidelines.
Processes specimens to prepare them for laboratory testing, to include centrifuging and aliquoting of blood samples. Packages and stores specimens appropriately for transport using guidance from lab test directories.
Takes responsibility for safety checks, supply management and assists with training. preceptor to students and new hires.
Performs other duties as assigned.

- Conduct workflow assessments to identify inefficiencies, rework, manual processes, Epic workflow variation, denial drivers, missed automation opportunities, and standardization needs.

Essential Functions
- Uses consistent and appropriate techniques to gather relevant information pertinent to the examination being performed, including correct patient identification and order verification.
- Assess patient to determine and develop an action plan for completing the procedure.
- Performs pre and post exam patient education pertinent to exam being performed.
- Produces images according to established protocols within the Diagnostic Imaging Department, at patients’ bedside, ER, and surgery with a high degree of accuracy,
- Demonstrates good radiation safety practices during radiographic examinations to include use of lead shields, collimation, and determining pregnancy status of women of childbearing years
- Prepares for and assists Physicians with intricate radiographic examinations.
- Ensures examinations are performed, completed, and ready for physician interpretation.
- Attends and participates in department staff meetings and in-services.
- Takes an active role in gaining and maintaining proficiency in hospital and radiology equipment and information systems needed in performance of job responsibilities.
- Instructs Radiologic Technology students in the radiographic positioning, technique, and film critique.

At Houston Methodist, the Endoscopy Technician II (Endo Tech) position, under the direction of a Registered Nurse and/or physician, is a proficient Endo Tech responsible for providing high quality support to the gastroenterology (GI) providers and other members of the healthcare team. This position is fully competent to assist with the preparation of GI endoscopy procedures related to preparation for and assisting with turnaround activities, which include cleaning and high-level disinfection processing of endoscopes and accessory equipment. The Endo Tech II position anticipates physician needs during endoscopy procedures, assists with the clean-up of the endoscopy suite, and acts as a mentor of others in the technician role. This position works independently, exercising sound judgment and executing above average clinical skills necessary for assisting with endo-related procedures. Other duties for the Endo Tech II position include serving as a mentor to Endo Tech I's, utilizing skills and knowledge, helping to train and orient others.

POSITION SUMMARY
This position coordinates a smooth patient flow process by answering phones, scheduling patient appointments, providing registration of patient and insurance information, obtaining required signatures following established processes, procedures and standards. This position also verifies insurance coverage, validates referrals and authorizations, collects patient liability and provides financial guidance to patients to maximize medical services reimbursement efforts. This also includes accurately posting patients at the point of service and releasing information in accordance with organizational and compliance policies and guidelines.
CORE FUNCTIONS
1. Performs registration/check-in processes, including but not limited to performing data entry activities, providing patients with appropriate information and intake forms, obtaining necessary signatures and generating population health summary.
2. Verifies insurance eligibility benefits for services rendered with the payors and documents appropriately. Assists in obtaining or validating pre-certification, referrals, and authorizations
3. Calculates and collects patient liability according to verification of insurance benefits and expected reimbursement. Explains and provides financial policies and available resources for alternative payment arrangements to patients and their families.
4. Enters payments/charges for services rendered and performs daily payment/charge reconciliation in a timely and accurate manner. Balances cash drawer at the beginning and end of the day and prepares daily bank deposit with necessary paperwork sent to centralized billing for record purposes.
5. Schedules office visits and procedures within the medical practice(s) and external practices as necessary. Maximizes reimbursement by scheduling patients in accordance with payor plan provisions. Confirms patient appointments for the following day as necessary and ensures patients are properly prepared for visits.
6. Demonstrates proactive interpersonal communications skills while dealing with patient concerns through telephone calls, emails and in-person conversations. Optimizes patient flow by using effective customer service/communication skills by communicating to internal and external customers, care team, management, centralized services and HIMS.
7. Assists in responding to requests for patient medical records according to company policies and procedures, and state and federal laws.
8. Provides a variety of patient services to assist in patient flow including but not limited to escorting patients, taking vitals and patient history, assisting in patient treatment, distributing mail and fax information, ordering supplies, etc.
9. Works independently under regular supervision and follows structured work routines. Works in a fast paced, multi-task environment with high volume and immediacy needs requiring independent decision making and sound judgment to prioritize work and ensure appropriateness and timeliness of each patient’s care. This position requires the ability to retain large amounts of changing payor information/knowledge crucial to attaining reimbursement for the services provided. Primary external customers include patients and their families, physician office staff and third party payors.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge.
Requires knowledge of patient financial services, financial, collecting services or insurance industry experience processes normally acquired over one or more years of work experience. Requires the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously with minimal supervision and to work independently.
Requires strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills to effectively interact with a wide range of audiences. Strong knowledge in the use of common office software, word processing, spreadsheet, and database software are required.
Employees working at Banner Behavioral Health Hospital, BTMC Behavioral, and BUMG, BUMCT, or BUMCS in a Behavioral Health clinical setting that serves children must possess an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card at the time of hire and maintain the card for the duration of their employment. An Arizona Criminal History Affidavit must be signed upon hire.
