- Previous MedSurg Oncology Unit experience preferred
- BLS required, ONS/ONCC preferred
- 3 years of Med-Surg experience preferred

- Med-Oncology certified preferred
Unique care of leukemia, lymphoma, sickle cell, and general medicine patients are managed on Medical Oncology Unit. Common therapies on the floor include caring or oral and intravenous chemotherapy, as well as care of post intrathecal chemotherapy recipients. Chemotherapy desensitization, pain management strategies, and monitoring of telemetry patients are essential to the care provided.
A great opportunity to work in a Level I Trauma Center, Teaching Facility for UTHealth Medical School and Magnet Recognized Hospital. We are seeking RN's with a passion for working with Oncology patients and excellent critical thinking ability to join our Medical Surgical Oncology Unit at the Texas Medical Center.
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Graduate of an accredited School of Professional Nursing; Bachelors of Nursing preferred
Licenses/Certifications:
- Current State of Texas license or temporary/compact license to practice professional nursing
- Certified in Basic Life Support
- Additional certifications may be required based on discipline and/or nursing unit requirements
Experience / Knowledge / Skills:
- RN I <1 year
- RN II = 1-3 years
- RN III = 3-10 years
- RN IV = 10+ years
Principal Accountabilities
- Delivers safe and appropriate care to patients, according to the nursing skills inventory and the age and needs of the patient/population served.
- Coordinates the planning for the delivery of nursing care with an interdisciplinary team and administers appropriate clinical decisions in the delivery of patient care.
- Collaborates with, directs, and may delegate to the healthcare team in the attainment of positive outcomes based on data, research, evidence, and professional standards of care. Coordinates treatment plans; develops/implements discharge and/or transfer plans.
- Participates in a systemic, interdisciplinary, and ongoing evaluation of programs, process improvement and desired client-centered outcomes.
- Considers the diverse needs of each patient through the entire continuum of care, providing and ensuring the highest level of service according to established service standards, optimizing the patient experience.
- Adheres to all regulatory and Texas Board of Nursing standards.
- Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors; adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards, within budgetary specifications, including time management, supply management, productivity and quality of service.

Education:

Education: Graduate of an accredited School of Pharmacy.
Licenses/Certifications: Licensed as a Registered Pharmacist in the State of Texas. Pharmacy Sterile Product certification through an in-house program or other accredited program is required if incumbent compounds sterile products
Experience / Knowledge / Skills:
Principal Accountabilities
- Fills and labels prescriptions, and provides drug-related information and education for in-patients, out-patients, hospital employees and medical staff.
- Dispenses controlled substances and maintains appropriate inventory records.
- Supervises the activities of the pharmacy technical staff and Mentors or trains pharmacy students or residents.
- Participates in the Medication Use Evaluation Program and the Process Improvement Program.
- Maintains medication profiles and reviews for drug related problems.
- Maintains the scheduling and preparation of I.V. solutions and additives.
- Adheres to state and federal laws governing the practice of pharmacy, as well as to hospital and departmental policies and procedures, and maintains records as required.
- Initiates reports of medication errors or adverse drug interactions.
- Assists with inventory control, obtains out-of-stock items when needed.
- Performs clinical interventions, which may include medication profile review, IV to oral conversion, renal dosing adjustment, antimicrobial streamlining, patient counseling, obtaining medication histories, vancomycin/aminoglycoside dosing, therapeutic drug monitoring, and participation in multidisciplinary rounds.

- Monitors inventory of office supplies, analyzes usage patterns and ensures optimal par levels; requisitions supplies and equipment as well as maintenance repair services; ensures that maintenance and repair needs are met; tracks and documents lost or damaged equipment and supplies.
- Receives physicians and visitors on the unit to create an environment of service; identifies, acknowledges, and responds to patient, physician, staff needs; manages patient call light process, ensuring patient needs are met.
- Ensures appropriate patient flow by admitting/transferring/discharging patient in computer system and notifying appropriate personnel of patient status; places patient descriptors on room doors.
- Schedules patient testing, delivers specimens to lab; receives STAT lab results and posts in the patient record.
- Assists in ordering and serving patient meals, transporting patients, and performing indirect patient care duties at a competent level and according to the needs of the patient population served.
- Maintains complete and accurate patient record; maintains physician of record on computer and patient chart to ensure appropriate routing of patient information to correct physician.
- Enters patient charges without error Identifies and facilitates resolution of unit operational problems independently, collaborating with manager to resolve complex problems.
- Collects and analyzes data related to unit operational activities as directed by manager to include, but not limited to, customer service, patient charges, and supply utilization.
