1. Obtains demographic/billing/insurance information from patient/family/legal guardian and enters into the registration/billing systems for service and claim processing and scans insurance cards & photo identification. Provides to the patient, information concerning insurance, payment of bills and hospital procedures.
2. May complete managed care responsibilities in regard to obtaining pre-certification and authorizations.
3. Prepares WVU Medicine standard consent form, notice of privacy practice and/or other necessary paperwork related to registration and presents to patient/family/legal guardian for signatures. Obtains electronic signature for consent to treat and patient financial obligations.
4. Collects deposits/co-payments/deductibles/patient liability payments when applicable, provides patient receipt and documents payment in the registration/billing systems.
5. Prepares armband for patient identification.
6. Balances daily receipts and cash drawer for patient payments as needed. Follows up on accounts as indicated by system flags (courtesy dismissal/comments/red stickers).
7. May initiate various screenings and obtains all pertinent information for coverage and completes appropriate paperwork.
8. Performs medical necessity checks and completes Advanced Beneficiary Notice as needed.
9. Schedules, reschedules, or cancels patients in accordance with hospital workflows.
10. Checks for order completeness and validate order against scheduled service.

Reporting to the Manager of Pharmacy Services, the Managed Care Pharmacist is primarily responsible for all aspects of implementation of the Pharmacy Benefit Manager (PBM), brokering communication, ensuring execution of desired plan benefit design, and collaborating with key stakeholders, clients, and the PBM on issue resolution. The Managed Care Pharmacist will also work directly with clients and key stakeholders to educate on pharmacy benefits and assist in optimizing clinical outcomes while reducing pharmacy spend. Responsibilities will include supporting quality assurance activities related to consistent and accurate utilization management reviews and monitoring and assessing clinical program outcomes. This includes development of clinical and quality program design and implementation for the pharmacy benefit. The Managed Care Pharmacist will assist in evaluating clinical and performance metric reporting and assessing the appropriate utilization of medications, and carries responsibilities that include oversight of formulary administration, pharmacy benefit development, benefit interpretation, profiling cost and utilization plan data, and provider relations.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

15. Manages vendor relationships related to Part D Stars measure performance to ensure they are meeting contractual obligations and expectations.

20. Assist in reconciling and reporting data from Drug Management Programs to address overutilization of frequently abused drugs.
21. Resolves clinical eligibility flag discrepancies identified through PDE rejections received from the PBM.
22. Provide support and consultation for key documents such as the pharmacy directory and formulary directory, and referencing CMS guidance when applicable to creation of those documents.
23. Serves as a liaison between internal departments (such as care management) and PBM Client Account Executives to provide best-in-class care to enrollees and aid in issue resolution.

The CAPE program is a system-wide clinical advancement program (clinical ladder) to enhance professional development, provide a reward system for quality clinical performance, promote quality nursing, and improve job satisfaction for inpatient direct care nurses.

Additional Job Description:
The Director of Adult Clinical Pharmacy Services and Education provides clinical, operational, and academic leadership for adult clinical pharmacy practice at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital, an 880-bed Level I trauma center and the academic medical center of the West Virginia University School of Medicine. Reporting to the Assistant Vice President of Pharmacy, the Director is responsible for the design, expansion, staffing, and measured performance of clinical pharmacy services supporting the adult service lines, including the WVU Heart and Vascular Institute, the WVU Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute, the WVU Critical Care and Trauma Institute, and the WVU Medicine Center for Organ Transplantation. Pediatric services at WVU Medicine Children's are outside the scope of this position.
The Director also leads the department's education portfolio, including ASHP-accredited PGY1 and PGY2 residency programs, experiential education in partnership with the WVU School of Pharmacy, preceptor development, and continuing education for pharmacy staff. The position works closely with medical staff, nursing leadership, quality, informatics, and finance to advance the clinical practice model, and partners with system pharmacy leadership to align services across WVU Medicine.
Essential Job Functions
Clinical service development and expansion
- Develops and executes a multi-year plan for adult clinical pharmacy coverage at Ruby, informed by unit-level assessment of patient acuity, medication complexity, and current pharmacist deployment
- Prioritizes service expansion based on projected clinical outcomes, drug expenditure at risk, medical staff sponsorship, and workforce availability
- Prepares business cases for new clinical positions and programs, including pro forma, outcome targets, implementation timeline, and post-implementation evaluation criteria
- Extends clinical coverage into evening, weekend, and around-the-clock models where the clinical and financial case supports it
- Designs and implements new service models, including pharmacist-led transitions of care, discharge medication programs, and pharmacist consult services such as pharmacokinetic dosing, renal dose adjustment, IV-to-PO conversion, and penicillin allergy evaluation
- Coordinates service growth with programs carrying accreditation-based pharmacist requirements, including solid organ transplant
- Partners with system pharmacy leadership so services developed at Ruby can be adapted for other WVU Medicine entities
Clinical practice model and operations
- Establishes the adult clinical practice model, defining which services are delivered on which units, at what coverage hours, at what pharmacist-to-patient ratios, and how decentralized practice interfaces with central operations
- Defines accountabilities for clinical pharmacy specialists, including rounding participation, documentation standards, consult response, protocol ownership, precepting, and scholarly activity
- Develops and maintains collaborative practice agreements and pharmacist scope of practice consistent with West Virginia Board of Pharmacy regulations
- Leads the clinical response to drug shortages, therapeutic conversions, and biosimilar transitions, including prescriber communication and corresponding Epic build
- Recruits, retains, and develops the clinical pharmacy specialist workforce
- Partners with pharmacy operations and medication safety on adverse event review, ISMP best practice adoption, and Joint Commission medication management readiness
- Establishes the performance measures for adult clinical pharmacy services, including intervention capture, documented cost avoidance, length-of-stay and readmission contribution, protocol adherence, and antimicrobial days of therapy
- Reports service line performance to pharmacy and hospital leadership on a defined cadence and recommends reallocation of resources from services not meeting targets
- Builds and maintains the reporting infrastructure required to produce defensible outcome data from Epic documentation
- Partners with pharmacy informatics on Epic build affecting adult medication use, including dosing logic, alerting and alert burden, order sets, best practice advisories, and pharmacist documentation
- Manages the clinical labor and non-labor budget for the service line, including productivity monitoring, benchmarking, and position justification
- Supports 340B program integrity where clinical services intersect with eligibility, referral capture, and specialty pharmacy
Residency and student education
- Provides direct oversight to residency program directors for the adult PGY1 Pharmacy residency and PGY2 programs including critical care, emergency medicine, infectious diseases, internal medicine, cardiology, and ambulatory care
- Maintains ASHP accreditation for programs under this position's oversight, including program structure, competency areas and objectives, evaluation completion, and survey readiness
- Oversees residency program administration, including the Residency Advisory Committee, PhORCAS review, interviews, and Match participation.

The successful candidate will practice in the areas of Internal Medicine. In addition to providing excellent patient care, the successful candidate will also be actively involved in teaching medical students, residents, and fellows and will take an active role in the new internal medicine residency program.
This position is with is the academic outpatient internal medicine department at WVU Medicine. A growing academic Internal Medicine section that affords the faculty member teaching opportunities with internal medicine residents and medical students in an outpatient clinical setting. Internal Medicine faculty will also participate in didactic conferences and have access to scholarly and research opportunities. The primary hospital is Berkeley Medical Center, a 200-bed teaching hospital in the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia, with a 19-bed ICU, cardiac catheterization lab, interventional radiology, and the full range of medical and surgical consultative services. There are active Neurosurgical, Cardiovascular, and Oncology programs via our Rockefeller Neurosciences Institute, Heart and Vascular Institute, and Cancer Institute, respectively. Additional tertiary care support is provided by a strong collaborative relationship with Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV.

This position is with is the academic outpatient internal medicine department at WVU Medicine. A growing academic Internal Medicine section that affords the faculty member teaching opportunities with internal medicine residents and medical students in an outpatient clinical setting. Internal Medicine faculty will also participate in didactic conferences and have access to scholarly and research opportunities. The primary hospital is Berkeley Medical Center, a 200-bed teaching hospital in the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia, with a 19 bed ICU, cardiac catheterization lab, interventional radiology, and the full range of medical and surgical consultative services. There are active Neurosurgical, Cardiovascular, and Oncology programs via our Rockefeller Neurosciences Institute, Heart and Vascular Institute, and Cancer Institute, respectively. 1. Perform cardiac monitoring for telemetry and hard wire monitored patients that are routed to the centralized Telemetry Surveillance Unit. Each Cardiac Monitor Technician visually monitors between 32 and 50 patients per station.
2. Complete quarterly competencies and annual required CBLs within dedicated timeframe.
3. Monitor, identify changes, address alarms to identify any abnormal heart rhythm variation, and report patient’s cardiac rhythm, and/or life- threatening cardiac events to medical and nursing staff.
4. Analyze, interpret, and measure ECG strip waveform displays and document each patient’s rhythm every four hours, via Wave Strip Export, along with any changes and report these changes according to established guidelines and protocols.
5. Monitor centralized pulse oximetry for general pediatric population and adult Orthopedic patients when indicated.
6. Maintain accurate patient information within the Telemetry Surveillance Unit (TSC).
7. Support indirect patient care by assembling telemetry packs – including batteries and electrodes – for nursing staff, ensuring proper installation and battery charge, while also managing inventory, maintaining equipment cleanliness and coordinating patient equipment assignments within TSC.
8. Assure patient safety is first and foremost by identifying and prioritizing tasks by importance.
9. Demonstrate professional telephone etiquette by courteously answering calls, clearly identifying self and department and promptly relaying accurate, well documented messages to the appropriate recipient.
