Job Description Summary:

Job Description:
The Certified Pharmacy Technician II provides daily supportive services for the Department of Pharmacy according to hospital policies and procedures and in compliance with Kentucky pharmacy laws and other regulatory agencies. The technician actively supports and participates in the department’s continuous quality improvement initiatives and competency assessments and demonstrates a commitment to customer service and patient safety. The technician responds to requests in a prompt and efficient manner. Major job responsibilities include: distributes medications, including controlled substances, to a secure place for storage or administration, restocks automated dispensing cabinets (ADC), compounds sterile and non-sterile products, communicates with hospital staff, completes inspections, and reports unsafe practices to leadership.
Essential Functions:
Provides supportive services to the inpatient pharmacy
- Assists with filling, processing, and dispensing of medications by labeling medication, including bulk supplies, with proper ancillary labeling and bagging procedures, with final check performed by a pharmacist
- Answers phones according to established phone etiquette and triages calls to the proper personnel
- Charges and/or credits patients for medications used via the computer system
- Accurately and efficiently unit doses medications including cleaning the compounding area, restocking and replacing supplies, documenting in the compounding record, and ensuring doses are correctly labeled and prepared for pharmacist verification
- Prepares medications for loading into the ADC and unloads medications from the ADC utilizing bar code scanning
- Fills inventory requests for nursing unit’s ADCs, floor stock, and fills patient specific drawers by placing the proper bins according to census profile
- Supports the drug inventory process including ordering, rotation, and restocking of drug dispensing areas with drugs and supplies needed to process patient medications orders
- Ensures the maintenance of a clean and orderly work area, including a sterile environment
- Completes nursing unit and inventory inspections, as assigned. Restocks kits and crash cart trays, as required
- Fills controlled substance orders, reconciles all discrepancies and closes all loops on a daily basis
- Monitors medication activity for potential drug diversion and reports any discrepancies to the pharmacist or pharmacy leadership
- Delivers medications, including controlled substances, to nursing units’ ADC as scheduled and for emergent deliveries as necessary
- Assists with ensuring medications are delivered efficiently and accurately to patient care unit areas, including checking the tube system with each delivery, retrieving and transporting medications to the appropriate location
- Prepares and packages hazardous medications and adheres to all safety measures for handling hazardous medications described in USP 795/797/800
- Utilizes aseptic technique following department policies and procedures when compounding sterile products
Serves as a mentor to new pharmacy technicians, pharmacy technician students, and pharmacy students
- Provides guidance to certified pharmacy technicians and IPPE pharmacy student rotations as necessary
- Precepts pharmacy technician students
Executes hospital and pharmacy policies and procedures
- Investigates and resolve automated dispensing cabinet related issues
- Utilizes inventory management system and carousels to resolve drug distribution related issues
- Covers assigned shifts as determined by departmental need
- Facilitates investigational drug studies with assistance of the pharmacist and/or other personnel involved in the drug study
- Completes sterile compounding training, including hazardous medications, and demonstrate competency on a frequency defined by the Sterile Compounding Supervisor
- Completes extemporaneous compounding training, including hazardous medications, and demonstrate competency on a frequency defined by pharmacy leadership
- Participates in orientation of new staff members
- Contributes to the development of policies and procedures as requested by pharmacy leadership
Other Functions:
- Achieves and maintains satisfactory working relationships with pharmacy leadership, pharmacy staff, and other departments throughout the system
- Attends departmental staff meetings
- Performs tasks under the supervision of all pharmacists and pharmacy leadership; reports to the Inpatient Pharmacy Supervisor or Sterile Compounding Supervisor
- Adheres to Pharmacy Services Agreement
- Maintains compliance with all company policies, procedures and standards of conduct
- Complies with HIPAA privacy and security requirements to maintain confidentiality at all times
- Performs other duties as assigned
Additional Job Description:
Education:
- High School Diploma or GED/ equivalent (required)
- Completion of a formal Pharmacy Technician educational program and/or an Associate’s degree (preferred)
Experience:
- Eligibility for technician II designation requires advancement within hospital pharmacy practice per UofL Pharmacy Technician Career Ladder
Licensure:
- Registered as a pharmacy technician with the Commonwealth of Kentucky (required)
Certification:
- Current Board certification by Pharmacy Technician Certification Board or National Healthcare Association (required)

Job Description:
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
• Collect blood specimens and perform hematology, chemistry and microbiology testing in house.
• Perform other in house tests as ordered, including urinalysis, microscopy, rapid strep screens and throat cultures.
• Collect, process and prepare specimens to be sent to reference laboratory.
• Communicate with reference laboratory as needed regarding specimens, procedures, supplies.
• Utilize Allscripts Electronic Health Record as required for reporting tests and communicating with providers.
• Perform routine maintenance, calibration and standardization of laboratory instruments.
• Perform and report quarterly proficiency testing.
• Perform and document quarterly medical records check to confirm quality assurance per Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendment (CLIA). Also assist in preparation for CLIA inspection/certification (minimally every two years, or for unannounced inspections).
• Keep daily and monthly statistics of laboratory tests.
• Maintain inventory/order laboratory supplies.
• Maintain Quality Assurance of laboratory. Ensure integrity of reagents and controls by carefully keeping track of expiration dates.
• Maintain neat, clean, orderly laboratory.

Position Summary and Purpose
The Respiratory Therapist, Registered is a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) that possesses working knowledge of respiratory care and has displayed age-specific competence for all age groups serviced by the facility. - Cleans and reprocesses respiratory therapy equipment

Job Description:
The Patient Access Registrar presents a pleasing, helpful, and courteous manner to patients, physicians, visitors, co-workers, and all other internal and external customers of the hospital. The registrar interviews patients in a professional manner and obtains all personal, medical, and financial information necessary for admissions and billing properly for services rendered. Obtains accurate insurance information and signatures when applicable and explains payment options available and refer to Patient Financial Counselor if necessary. The registrar adheres to established policies and procedures for the department and the hospital when providing service to adults (ages 18-65), geriatric patients (age over 65), adolescents (ages 12-17) and pediatric/neonate patients (age under 12).
Essential Functions:
- Receives and interviews patients in a courteous, empathetic, and professional manner.
- Obtains and enters complete and accurate patient demographic, guarantor, and insurance information.
- Assures completion of forms for signatures, authorization and consents.
- Reviews patient insurance information and assigns appropriate insurance payor plan codes including policy, group and authorization numbers to ensure proper billing.
- Assigns appropriate patient types and beds according to the type of registration (ER, Inpatient Admits, Observations, Outpatient Surgery (ODSU), Lab, Radiology, T-accounts, etc.). Works with physicians and nurses to ensure accurate patient placement. Corrects all changes to accounts prior to billing (inpatient to observation, observation to inpatient, inpatient to ODSU, etc.).
- Ensures that the ordering, attending, referring and primary care physicians are documented in the hospital computer system (SMS) correctly when registering patients.
- Maintains confidentiality of all patient information and maintains awareness of individual patient needs and wait times for registration. Monitors waiting and treatment areas for patients that have not been registered.
- Maintains an efficient and effective patient flow.
- Complies with all department and hospital policies and procedures.
- Complies with local, state, and federal rules and regulations, and the requirements of accrediting bodies.
- Performs other duties as assigned such as representing the group to management internally & externally as needed; responding to management inquiries and requests, etc.
- Attends and participates in department and hospital meetings, in-services, and quality improvement teams.
- Participates in the on-call weekend coverage rotation.
- Contributes to the accomplishment of department and hospital objectives.
- Projects a positive personal and professional image of the Patient Access Representative, department, and hospital at all times, under all circumstances.
- Maintains a clean and orderly work area.

JOB SUMMARY
This position is responsible for managing the appeal of unpaid claims in the Central Business Office. This position will also work closely with insurance carriers in resolving unpaid claims.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Review and appeal unpaid claims daily.
- Completes follow-up work on appealed claims.
- Works with insurance carriers on appeal issues.
- Provides feedback to the coding department with coding errors or updates.
- Reviews remit to ensure accurate payment was received.
- Reviews denials for accuracy.
- Obtains all necessary information to expedite the appeal process.
- Closes and prints daily batch proof.
- Makes charge corrections as needed in the practice management system.
- Attends continue education programs for coding.
- Other duties as assigned.
Additional Job Description:
Education:
- High School education or GED required.
- Must have and maintain Certified Professional Coder (CPC) certification through AAPC or must have and maintain CCA, CCS or CCS-P certification through AHIMA.
Experience:
- 3 years of prior coding experience, preferred.
- Prior experience working with medical insurance.
