Responsible for reviewing, analyzing and initiating appropriate action for complex denial resolution by communicating with payers, hospital departments and patients.I. Major Responsibilities:
1. Triages denial root cause and executes appropriate next steps.
2. Identifies trends and participates in interdepartmental resolution strategies to reduce and eliminate future denials. Researches complex denials as assigned.
3. Trains staff on payer websites, providing basic guidance and instruction on website navigation.
4. Uses assigned work queues and prioritization standards and guidelines to perform denial resolution follow up. Work queues assigned will be representative of UMMHC more complex payers.
5. Resolves accounts denials with high dollar balances (>$100,00) recognizing the potential complexity and the need for rapid resolution.
6. Uses reference material to troubleshoot payer issues and increase understanding of denial resolution techniques. References payer websites as needed.
7. Analyzes and researches the denial reasons for each assigned denial code. Recognizes and differentiates between claim denials and payment variances. Initiates appropriate account follow up.
8. Participates in payer and internal audits. Supports requests for information, claim correction and/or resubmission. Maintains appropriate documentation related to original audit findings.
9. Corrects and updates claim information in the Medicare FISS system requiring in depth knowledge of Medicare billing and compliance regulations.
10. Correct and resubmit claims in Mass Health MMIS and other payer websites
11. Completes appropriate actions needed for an effective appeal including conducting authorization research, rebilling, and balance write off or transfer to next responsible party. Escalates issues as appropriate.
12. Corresponds with third party payers, hospital departments, and patients to obtain information required for denial resolution following payer timelines. Releases information following Federal, State and Hospital guidelines.
13. Follows payers established procedures and timelines to submit appeals utilizing payers preferred method, i.e., electronically or via paper.
14. Documents all actions taken during the denial resolution process clearly including actions taken, next steps, payer processing timelines, etc.
15. Adjusts account balances using correct transaction while code adhering to guidelines.
16. Follows established protocols to ensure all documents are retained appropriately.
17. Meets established quality and productivity standards.
18. Facilitates and promotes the sharing of knowledge and content throughout departments.
19. Follows all established Hospital Billing Revenue Cycle Management departmental and compliance policies and procedures.
20. Adheres to change control processes.
21. Participates in cross training to optimize resources.
22. Demonstrates excellent attendance and actively participates in a variety of meetings and training sessions as required.
23. Maintains and fosters an organized, clean, and safe work environment.
24. Actively contributes to the development and application of process improvements.

II. Position Qualifications:
License/Certification/Education:
Required:
1. A minimum of a High School diploma.
Experience/Skills:
Required:
1. Four or more years of experience in health care billing functions.
2. Previous health care billing experience.
3. Proven track record of successful performance and goal achievement.
4. Experience in denial resolution process.
5. Advanced knowledge of claim form content and claim submission requirements. Understands and can explain the purpose of revenue codes, condition codes, occurrence codes, modifiers and value codes.
6. Proactively proposes resolutions to issues
7. Ability to communicate verbally and clearly document all actions taken during resolution process. 8. Demonstrates ability to research denial issues. Can provide root cause of denial issue and identify next steps needed to resolve issue.
9. Ability to navigate in MassHealth claims processing application and/or the Medicare claims processing application.
10. Experience with high dollar- high complexity claim submissions, i.e. Long length of stay, coverage changes and lapse, coordination of benefit issues
11. Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with people.
12. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.
Department-specific competencies and their measurements will be developed and maintained in the individual departments. The competencies will be maintained and attached to the departmental job description. Responsible managers will review competencies with position incumbents.

This position provides support to nursing management in overall day-to-day coordination of staffing needs for individual patient care areas and is directly responsible for identifying the daily needs and changes in staffing and communicates to appropriate individuals. Manages the input of data in the electronic scheduling system. Manages the daily operations related to the use of the scheduling system. This position maintains the time and attendance records, processes the weekly payroll, makes manual edits on the payroll sheets, and communicates with the Payroll department. Maintains good interpersonal, intra/interdepartmental relationships by his/her use of communications systems and personal contact.I. Major Responsibilities:
1. Identifies staffing needs and confers with appropriate managers throughout the day.
2. Responsible for the accurate entry in the automated scheduling system: Enters all new hires into the Controller. and Scheduler. Updates monthly and daily schedules, manages and prints daily staffing sheets, sign-in sheets. Posts staffing needs lists.
3. Compiles daily staffing information and discusses with the appropriate manager or director.
4. Participates in daily Patient Flow bed meeting “huddles”.
5. Makes calls to fill staffing needs. Validates constant observation needs and communicates with charge nurses any changes in staffing needs.
6. Identifies overtime staffing and participates in reduction of expenses.

9. Phlebotomy in certain locations.
10. Performs other selected unit specific procedures such as battery changes for telemetry units, checking status of unit equipment, cleaning equipment between patients and proper storage of supplies.

Assists RN/Licensed Independent Practitioner with treatments and procedures by preparing patient; obtaining and setting up equipment and supplies, such as intravenous and hemodynamic lines, and utilize sterile technique when indicated. Help in positioning the patient and providing the patient with emotional support. Clean up equipment and supplies following the treatment and/or procedure.
12. Observes, measures, records oral food and fluid intake. Sets up full strength tube feeding solutions and refills tube feeding bags as directed. Empties and records output, as approved, from a variety of sources, e.g., Foley catheter, ostomy appliances and drainage systems. Performs ostomy care on established ostomate patients as directed.
13. Demonstrates sensitivity and responsiveness to patients’ needs by acting as a source of information and approaches all interactions with the intention of building positive rapport and relationships.
14. Provides respectful, culturally and age-appropriate communication with patients, staff, family, visitors and others.
15. Replenishes patient and unit supplies and equipment.
16. Requests assistance from identified resources when more direction is needed.
17. Keeps current with hospital and unit changes by reading communication boards and/or books, bulletin boards, posted notices and reads and responds to UMMHC e mails on a regular basis.

I. Major Responsibilities:

3. Participates in the development and maintenance of a safe environment. Works to utilize interventions to de-escalate patients and if unsuccessful participates in restraints in accordance with training and education as directed.
4. Assists patient with daily living activities such as personal hygiene, ambulating, meals and nourishment.
5. Assists in moving, lifting, positioning and transporting patients by utilizing proper safety techniques and body mechanics in all work-related activities.
6. Maintains patient safety by performing patient safety checks, utilizing fall prevention alternative devices/strategies as directed, and following the Restraint Policy standards when caring for a restrained patient.
7. Takes and records vital signs (temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure and pulse oxymetry). Measures and records patients’ height and weight.
8. Performs EKG’s, performs Point of Care (POC) tests and bladder scanning according to hospital standards. Collects, labels and prepares specimens for transport to lab.
9. Phlebotomy in certain locations.
10. Performs other selected unit specific procedures such as battery changes for telemetry units, checking status of unit equipment, cleaning equipment between patients and proper storage of supplies.

Assists RN/Licensed Independent Practitioner with treatments and procedures by preparing patient; obtaining and setting up equipment and supplies, such as intravenous and hemodynamic lines, and utilize sterile technique when indicated. Help in positioning the patient and providing the patient with emotional support. Clean up equipment and supplies following the treatment and/or procedure.

11. Observes, measures, records oral food and fluid intake. Refills tube feeding bags as directed. Empties and records output, as approved, from a variety of sources, e.g., foley catheter, ostomy appliances and drainage systems. Performs ostomy care on established ostomate patients as directed.

Ensures equipment and supplies are available for patient procedures. Orders supplies needed to maintain established par levels, ensures patients are billed appropriately for supplies used. Leads and participates in periodic and annual inventory count.I. Major Responsibilities:
1. Responsible for ordering all supplies through the hospital materials management system as needed. Works directly with purchasing and materials management staff for ordering and processing new supplies and equipment.
2. Verifies bill-only purchase orders for consignment and one-time only items are delivered by appropriate representatives. Works with accounts payable to ensure all invoices are accurate and supplies are accounted for.

Under the supervision of the Nuclear Medicine Director, prepares, measures and administers radiopharmaceuticals to patients of all ages and performs all diagnostic and therapeutic procedures using imaging and ancillary equipment.
I. Major Responsibilities:
1. Reviews physician orders prior to patient testing to determine appropriate dosing of radioisotopes for injection or oral administration. Verifies radioisotope measurement, count, and dose calibration.
2. Explains nuclear medicine procedures being performed to the patient and answers any patient questions; observes patient condition or negative reactions; injects appropriately calibrated radiopharmaceuticals intravenously.
3. Performs organ visualization procedures and function tests (i.e thyroid uptakes, renograms and dynamic blood flow studies) to produce scans suitable for use in the medical evaluation and diagnosis of a patient's physical condition. Utilizes gamma camera to photograph organs identified by the radioactive materials administered; scans images produced on computer screen, notes unclear areas and adjusts equipment accordingly; selects and produces desired images on film.
4. Records computer calculations and measurements of organs, blood vessels, etc., and prepares test reports along with patient scan for physician to review; investigates and supplies any additional information relative to test interpretation (i.e. patient medical history and condition) and assists in the correlation of clinical laboratory and radiologic results as they relate to the nuclear medicine procedures.
5. Orders and stocks radiopharmaceuticals in an orderly fashion; prepares and labels solutions and reagents. Maintains adequate shielding of radioactive material in storage and during transportation to the testing are. Informs the Nuclear Medicine Coordinator of supply shortages and assists in inventorying sectional supplies and radiopharmaceuticals.
6. Assists in other areas/modalities as needed.

Monitors and observes the inpatient holding area to ensure that patients’ needs are attended to and patient wait times are minimized.
2. Utilizes computer-based systems to verify patient information. Prints out daily schedules and check status of patients’ exams/visits to maintain efficiency and ensure prompt care of patients within the department. Answers phone calls and assists in the scheduling of exams.
3. Prepares rooms with proper equipment and supplies and when necessary assists the technologist with preparing a table for procedures, utilizing sterile technique. Assist in the disassembly and cleaning of patient equipment following a procedure.
4. Assists technologist on portable x-ray rounds including C-Arms with positioning equipment and patients as directed.
5. Demonstrate sensitivity and responsiveness to patient’s needs and concerns. Assist patients to bathroom or on bed pans as required. May assist patient with getting comfortable.

This position is responsible for providing services of both a technical and non-technical nature in the laboratory service areas. Works with considerable independence to perform routine and complex laboratory tests in all assigned departments of the clinical laboratory to provide physicians with rapid and accurate laboratory test results. May perform procedures across the major areas of the laboratory or concentrate in one area such as Blood Bank, Chemistry, Hematology, Immunology or Microbiology.I. Major Responsibilities:
1. Follows established procedures to perform all lab tests (including all levels of complexity as defined by CLIA) to obtain data for use in the diagnosis and treatment of disease.
2. Assesses acceptability of specimens for analysis and maintains integrity of the specimens throughout the entire testing process.
3. Performs set up on all laboratory equipment, instruments and apparatus required for specific laboratory testing. Performs routine cleaning and preventative maintenance to ensure continued functioning of equipment. Documents all maintenance procedures performed in a timely and accurate manner.

The role of the Patient Access Scheduling Agent is the front door for patients to secure access to the right care, at the right time, with the right provider. The Patient Access Scheduling agent performs a variety of complex scheduling activities that ensures patients get access to the care they need by providing exceptional patient service.I. Major Responsibilities:
1. Handles incoming phone calls from patients, families and referring providers to schedule patient appointments. Scheduling scope includes multiple providers across multiple clinics/departments, practices across multiple campuses.
2. Makes outbound phone calls to patients to schedule appointments with specialists and subspecialists.
3. As part of the appointment scheduling process, secure the information needed to facilitate the financial aspects of medical care such as patient demographics (name, date of birth, etc.), insurance information, and account guarantor. Processes updates and corrections to patient insurance and demographic information. Collects patient liabilities prior to or on the date of service, as appropriate.
4. Based upon appointment visit type, secure medical records from outside health care organizations to ensure the provider has the necessary medical information to provide care.
5. Schedules in office procedures (such as biopsies, etc.), which often requires scheduling the appointment and scheduling the room where the procedure will take place.
