• A medical assistant diploma or certificate as follows:

1. Documentation of completing of a medical assistant program from a medical assistant school that is accredited by ASSCS, ACCET, CAAHEP or ABHES or
2. Documentation of national certification for medical assistant issued by CMA, NCCT or AMT or
3. Documentation of completing a medical assistant program and demonstrated completion of no less than 10 clock hours of training in administering injections and performing skin tests; 10 hours of training in venipuncture and skin puncture for the purpose of withdrawing blood; at least 10 of each intramuscular, subcutaneous, and intradermal injections and 10 skin tests, and/or at least 10 venipuncture and 10 skin punctures; 10 hours of training in administering medical by inhalation.

• High School (HS) Diploma/HS Transcripts/GED
• BLS from American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• Knowledge of normal and abnormal symptomology and life threatening medical problems
• Ability to administer CPR
• Ability to skillfully administer oral, IM and subcutaneous medications
• Ability to perform venipuncture with skill, adhering to all OSHA PPE safety requirements
• Ability to obtain accurate vital signs and drug refills

 Incumbent develops and recommends new policies, procedures, and practice and implements specific recommendations, which may include coordinating with several service departments and personnel; provides advice and assistance with problem solving. Assignments are given according to organizational goals. Attainment of goals are reviewed on an as needed basis within the UCLA Healthcare West Valley Operating Room, WV Campus under the direct supervision of Sterile Processing Manager and Supervisor, Asset Manager, Assistant Director of the Operating Room and the Director of Perioperative Services. Incumbent will collaborate along with the SPD Manager and the Director of Perioperative Services regarding operations within the sterile processing department.

• Sterile processing or Surgical tech experience required
• Strictly obeys the healthcare regulations for infection control, while consistently demonstrating a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
• Attends all in-services/workshops as requested. Assists in the orientation and skill development of new staff members. Attends and participates in required fire, safety, disaster, body mechanics, etc. classes and/or drills.
• Consistently maintains good guest relations interdepartmentally, interdepartmentally, using English language in both written and verbal format, uses good telephone etiquette, sensitive to co-workers, patients, physicians, and family members, consistently maintains a courteous and respectful manner, confidentiality of patients, healthcare, or physician related information
• Conducts personal business on break or lunchtime.
• Prioritizes appropriately and knows when to call for assistance.
• Able to work independently and rotate efficiently to all shifts as assigned, as well as actively participating in Quality Management and Performance Improvement programs.
• Expert user of Inventory Tracking System (SPM and Lawson)
• Superior computer skills required: knowledge of Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook
• CRCST, CIS and CHL certifications strongly recommended
