Registered Nurse (Medical Oncology and Hematology) – Full-Time (80 hours per pay period)| Bronson Cancer Center – KalamazooUnder general supervision and in accordance with the policies, procedures and guidelines established within the organization, the unit, and the Michigan Public Health Code, the registered nurse manages the care delivery for patients in the organization throughout the length of stay to achieve quality outcomes and timely discharge by the following: utilizing the nursing process of assessment, planning, diagnosing, implementation and evaluation; coordinating the care provided by other professionals; delegating selected acts, tasks or functions that fall within the scope of professional nursing practice and the abilities of patient care assistants and universal service assistants; providing selected aspects of physical care within the scope of professional nursing practice as appropriate given the patient's level of acuity and complexity of care required; and documenting and communicating during each tour of duty the patient's response to care provided, consumption of resources and anticipated needs. Employees providing direct patient care must demonstrate competencies specific to the population served.
Associate's degree in Nursing required
Bachelor's degree in Nursing preferred, must obtain within 8 years of hire
Licensed Registered Nurse in good standing for the state of Michigan
As of December 29, 2013, any nurse hired by Bronson who does not hold a BSN (or higher nursing degree) will be given 8 years from date of hire date to obtain. If, after 8 years, the nurse has not met this requirement, employment will be terminated.
BLS certification required by completion of core orientation
Critical care or ALS as well as other certifications may be required for some RNs, unit specific
Bronson South Haven Specific- Effective July 1, 2017 all new hires are expected to successfully obtain their BSN within 8 years of hire date.
Bronson South Haven Specific:
Emergency Department: SALT triage, ESI Triage, and NIH Stroke Scale to be completed within 90 days of hire date. Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, and Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC only required for FT and part -time nurses) within 6 months of hire date. Special Care Unit: All nurses in department will need to have Pediatric Advance Life Support certification within 6 months of hire.
RNs in Labor & Delivery and Mother/Baby/Antepartum at BMH & BBC Specific:
The Fetal Monitoring Credential (FMC) is required within 6 months of completing the AWHONN intermediate fetal monitoring course; completion of the National Certification Corporation (NCC) Electronic Fetal Monitoring (C-EFM) board certification is alternatively preferred, though not required.
Current driver's license in the state of Michigan and proof of insurance required for BAH
• Ability to read, interpret, and analyze data from various computer systems and equipment in order to set an appropriate plan of action
• Must be able to constantly communicate both verbally, in writing and electronically
Work which produces high levels of mental/visual fatigue, e.g., interactive and repetitive or small detailed work requiring alertness and concentration for sustained periods of time, the operation of and full attention to a personal computer or CRT between 40 and 70 percent of the time. Involves regularly lifting of bulky or moderately heavy weights (i.e., up to 50 pounds), and occasionally assisting with heavier tasks or expending the equivalent effort in pushing, pulling, or otherwise handling material, equipment, and other objects.
Standards of Practice:
• The registered nurse collects comprehensive data pertinent to the patients’ health or the situation.
o Assesses the patient’s physical and developmental needs
o Analyzes assessment data to identify appropriate patient needs
o Documents nursing history and age appropriate physical/emotional needs/strengths for assigned patients
o Reviews vital signs to assess condition of patient and detect deviations from normal.
• The registered nurse analyzes the assessment data to determine patient problems or issues
o Uses the assessment data to identify patient problems
o Confirms problems with patient and family when appropriate
o Documents the expected outcomes and plan of care related to the problems through use of the clinical pathway and outcome teaching record
• The registered nurse identified expected outcomes for a plan individualized to the patient
o Utilizes the patient/family input when defining outcomes. Incorporates the patient values, ethical and cultural considerations.
o Coordinates discharge planning for outcomes not achieved utilizing the continuum of care available.
• The registered nurse develops a plan that prescribes interventions to attain expected outcomes.
o Incorporates clinical pathways into the plan when appropriate
o Develops individualized interventions with patient input when appropriate
o Considers data from other members of the healthcare team when developing the plan of care
• The registered nurse implements the identified plan.

o Administers prescribed medication and treatment in accordance with approved nursing techniques and polices.

• Responsibilities related to the Scrub RN
o Interprets procedure card, assesses case cart for supplies prior to the scheduled procedure time. Identifies missing equipment and/or supplies and makes arrangements to acquire those supplies.
o Applies knowledge of operative procedure and physician preferences by anticipating physicians' needs.
o Observant of overt changes in patient's condition that indicates a problem has emerged.
o Evaluates and updates case information, i.e., preference cards, broken or misplaced equipment, back-ordered supplies, and recommended changes in procedure.
o Remains aware of the proper use of equipment and instruments, and discourages improper use and handling by co-workers & physicians.
o Is observant of the changing needs of the operative field and the surgical team, anticipates potential needs, and takes appropriate actions.
o Acts as the specialist and resource for circulators who may be unfamiliar with positioning devices, specialty equipment, and/or implants needed.
o Assigned and responsible for after-hour call on a rotational basis.
o Ability to perform scrub duties in multiple services; ie: neuro and ortho STII able to perform spinal fusions in bother services.
For HDU Department Only: Additional on call requirements above and beyond regular scheduled hours
For Bronson Lakeview Hospital and Bronson South Haven Hospital:
The RN is responsible for completing the Workday CBL –“Swing beds”. This is an annual CBL that describes the difference in a swing bed patient versus an in-patient or observation patient. The RN will understand the documentation differences and the specific care required for each individual swing bed patient.
Bronson South Haven Hospital and Bronson Lakeview Hospital employees who are approved to work in a Swing Bed Facility only: Employees may be expected to cover shifts at Bronson Lakeview Hospital and/or Bronson South Haven Hospital depending on patient acuity and staffing needs.
Virtual Registered Nurse (VRN) Role: The virtual registered nurse leverages technology to deliver patient care remotely, collaborating with bedside staff and the broader care team to ensure quality outcomes and timely discharge. Core responsibilities include, but not limited to:
- Conducting admission screening, patient/family education, discharge planning, and medication dual acknowledgments via secure digital platforms.
- Completing diagnostic testing questionnaires and supporting patient safety initiatives.
- Mentoring and supporting nursing staff and facilitating patient progression toward discharge using electronic health record (EHR) tools such as checklists and clinical pathways.
- Analyzing assessment data to identify patient problems, confirming issues with patients/families as appropriate, and documenting individualized care plans in collaboration with bedside RNs.
- Systematically evaluating the quality and effectiveness of virtual nursing services, ensuring compliance with professional standards and organizational policies.
- Ability to project voice at volume that can easily be heard by individuals with little to no hearing impairment via audio-visual technology; speech in English is easy to understand

Responsibilities:
Prepares patients for procedures by reviewing medical history, draping and positioning the patient, preparing procedural/testing sites and administering contrast media and/or medications within scope of practice.Demonstrate the ability to cover "call" by performing all functions required after hours.Assists with clerical and non-technical duties necessary to department operations, such as documenting procedures into department/hospital information systems, as per departmental policy, recording billing, editing and statistical information in radiology information system, (post-processing and archiving of images to PACS), maintaining and cleaning patient care equipment per infection control standards and evaluating inventory levels, to ensure par level of stock, suitable for the needs of division.Prepares equipment and supplies including sterile trays. Selects appropriate exposure factors and imaging parameters. Implements safety standards and performs appropriate quality control procedures on equipment. Troubleshoots, resolves, and/or reports equipment malfunctions as necessary.Assists physician with performing diagnostic and vascular interventional procedures (utilizing surgical sterile technique). Our progressive care unit is a 16-bed unit caring for our cardiothoracic surgery (CTS) patient population-lobe resections, esophagectomy, etc. Cardiac overflow patients, stroke, increase monitoring capabilities, cardiac drips, insulin drips, overflow patients needing higher acuity of care. This unit offers an excellent learning environment for both newly licensed and experienced RNs.

OB Licensed Practical Nurse ( LPN ) - Bronson Battle Creek Birthplace - OB / Labor Delivery / Mother BabyThe Bronson Birthplace in Battle Creek has 15 beds – 11 for labor/delivery/recovery/postpartum (LDRP) care, 4 for antepartum/post-op care, 2 operating rooms and 3 triage bays. Additionally, the unit includes a newborn nursery. Here, pregnant, laboring and postpartum patients, as well as healthy newborns, receive comprehensive care. LPNs on this unit have the opportunity to care for postpartum couplets, assist in operating room procedures and provide support during deliveries.
Under the supervision of the Registered Nurse, provides prescribed medical treatment and personal care services which are within the scope of the practice of practical nursing to laboring, ill, injured, convalescent, and disabled persons as delegated, appropriate to the patient’s level of acuity and in accordance with established policies and procedures of the department and organization. Under the supervision of the Registered Nurse, and according to established policies and procedures, the LPN assists with surgical procedures as a scrub member of the obstetrical/surgical team. Prepares instruments and maintains a clean and safe obstetrical/surgical environment. The LPN will assist the Registered Nurse in collecting data, accompanying patients and responding to patient/family requests for services. The LPN may pass medications and administer IV therapy, per medication administration policy. Employees providing direct patient care must demonstrate competencies specific to the population served.
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and successful completion of an accredited program for Licensed Practical Nursing required.
Experience in health care delivery setting preferred.

- Performs the duties of a scrub nurse and surgical assist for assigned obstetrical cases. Reviews assigned procedures and ensures that all instruments and equipment are available and properly prepared according to established standards and individual provider’s preference. Assembles surgical trays and ensures that all equipment is properly assembled and in good working order. Scrubs and sets up sterile table; assists in accurately counting all instruments, needles, sharps and sponges; assists with gowning and gloving, assisting instruments, sutures, and other equipment as requested and anticipation of needs.
- Prepares operating room and Labor/delivery room for deliveries and procedures.
- Assists the Physicians/CNMs/PNPs and nursing personnel before during and after deliveries.
- Tears down the OR, LDRP room following procedures and deliveries, and assists house-keeping with cleaning as needed. Cleans equipment and returns to appropriate places. Prepares and returns instruments for cleaning and sterilization. Returns unused supplies to appropriate places.
- Checks, orders and restocks supplies inventories, instruments and equipment in appropriate areas. Rotates stock, stocks patient rooms, supply rooms, procedure carts, medication room, and utility rooms.
- Picks up and delivers specimens, equipment, meal trays, blood products and stat pharmacy orders.
- Cleans, cares for, and is able to utilize the computers and Central Fetal Monitoring systems in the obstetrical area.
