7p, 12 hour shifts, every third weekend.
Pay Range:
$25.30 - $37.95Join our 32-bed medical surgical unit at Atrium Health Cleveland. We care for a plethora of medical and surgical diagnoses and provide all the peritoneal dialysis for our facility. The unit is the stroke accredited and age friendly unit for the facility.
We collaborate with providers across the spectrum of disciplines (hospitalists, neurology, nephrology, pulmonology, cardiologists, intensivists, surgeons, orthopedics, and wound care) to ensure best practice and access in providing high quality, compassionate care. We partner with the Virtual Nursing Program, who assist in providing the most technologically advanced care to our patients.
Major Responsibilities:
- Provides direct patient care according to established policies, procedures, and standards of care.
- Assists with assessment by collecting and documenting data, actions and responses including biological, psychological, social and cultural factors. Detects significant changes in patient condition and reports these to the registered nurse.
- Assists with developing the plan of care and implements as directed by the registered nurse.
- Supports and reinforces patient teaching according to individualized plan of care.
- Documents performance of nursing interventions and patient's response to those interventions and communicates effectiveness of interventions and changes in patient condition to the registered nurse.
- Communicates changes in medical orders to the registered nurse.
- Performs clinical tasks or skills such as medication administration, IV therapy, wound care, venipuncture, etc.
- Performs various patient positioning and transporting duties, which require lifting and pushing/pulling, while utilizing proper technique.
- Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures. Age-specific information is developed further in the departmental job standards.
Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) needs to be obtained within 6 months unless department leader has determined it is not required.
- Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license issued by the state in which the team member practices, and
Education Required:
- Completion of an accredited or approved program in Practical Nursing.
Experience Required:
- No experience required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
- Proficient computer skills including keyboarding, navigation within a windows operating system, use of electronic mail and electronic medical records systems.
- Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to develop rapport and maintain positive relationships with a variety of patients, family, staff and physicians.
- Good organization, prioritization and problem solving skills.
- Ability to multi-task with frequent interruptions.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, reach above shoulders, and twist frequently throughout the workday.
- Must be able to:
- lift up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist.
- lift up to 20 lbs. over the head.
- carry up to 40 lbs. a reasonable distance.
- Must be able to:
- push/pull with 30 lbs. of force.
- perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with a second person present.
- Position requires use of foot pedals on carts or machines.
- Must have functional vision, speech, and hearing.
- May be exposed to mechanical, electrical, chemical, and radiation hazards as well as blood and body fluids; therefore, personal protective equipment must be worn as necessary.
- Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.

Summary:
Performs sonography in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice and with the policies, values, and mission of the organization.

Responsibilities:
When ordered, prepares and administers contrast media and/or medications within scope of practice. Monitors patient condition continually and reports/responds to changes in status as appropriate.Reviews patient history and physician's orders. Educates patient regarding procedures, equipment and exam to ensure patient's understanding and cooperation.Takes on call shift responsibilities as required by the department.Positions patient and performs imaging procedure(s). Analyzes images and identifies issues with the quality of images. Takes appropriate action to resolve image quality issues, including repositioning patient and repeating procedure if clinically appropriate.Prepares equipment and supplies. Selects appropriate imaging parameters. Implements safety standards and performs appropriate quality control procedures on equipment. Functional Role (not inclusive of titles or advancement career progression)
Responsible for ensuring accurate CPT and/or ICD-10 documentation for the patient billing process and educating colleagues and providers in accurately document services performed and using the appropriate codes representing those services. Maintains documentation regarding charge capture processes. Performs regular reviews of process adherence and identify missing charges. Coordinates with key stakeholders regarding impacts of system change requests and upgrades to processes to ensure capture accuracy. Provides oversight of charge reconciliation processes for assigned departments; ensuring daily and appropriate monthly reconciliations are occurring.
May perform or provide “at elbow” guidance to clinical departmental daily reconciliation processes including ensuring supply charges are appropriate captured (may include implants), identify duplicate charges and initiate appropriate communications when there are documentation and/or charge deficiencies or charge errors.
Performs charge entry/capture functions, charge approvals, and/or quality charge reviews; including but not limited to, appending modifiers, and checking clinical documentation. Provides feedback to intra-departmental Revenue Integrity colleagues including areas of opportunity.
Reviews and responds to various quality reports, including reports that identify missing charges, duplicate charges, late charges, etc. Maintain and update required reference logs and other reporting tools. May create and present information for decision making purposes.
Supports other stakeholders with denial related charge reviews including analysis of clinical documentation, root cause analysis and education to the responsible ancillary department.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED
Minimum of one (1) to two (2) years of relevant work experience in a hospital and/or Physician Practice environment and experience in revenue cycle, billing, coding and/or patient financial services. Charge control/capture work experience strongly preferred.
Experience working with current medical terminology, data entry, supply chain processes, hospital and/or Medical Group practice operations; hospital and/or Physician group practice revenue cycle front-end functions such as patient registration that may impact charge related errors; and billing and regulatory guidelines related to charging and other revenue cycle processes and ability to assist clinical departments and/or physician practices with changes to their charging practices based on guidelines.

Our patient population commonly includes pneumonia, COPD exacerbations, heart failure, chest pain, stroke, acute kidney injury, diabetes-related complications, electrolyte imbalances, infections, and other complex medical diagnoses. Summary:
Performs various imaging procedures in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice and with the policies, values, and mission of the organization.
Responsibilities:
When ordered, prepares and administers contrast media and/or medications within scope of practice. Monitors patient condition continually and reports/responds to changes in status as appropriate.Charges appropriately for all supplies used for procedure and utilizes appropriate exam codes.Prepares equipment and supplies. Selects appropriate exposure factors and imaging parameters. Implements safety standards and performs appropriate quality control procedures on equipment. Troubleshoots, resolves, and/or reports equipment malfunctions as necessary.Takes on call shift responsibilities as required by the department.Reviews patient history and physician's orders. Educates patient regarding procedures, equipment and exam to ensure patient's understanding and cooperation.Positions patient and performs imaging procedure(s). Analyzes images and identifies issues with the quality of images. Takes appropriate action to resolve image quality issues, including repositioning patient and repeating procedure if clinically appropriate.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
- Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, reach above shoulders, and twist frequently throughout the workday.

- Daily, provides ongoing Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) care for entire hospital inpatient census, through screening, prioritizing, assessing, and recommending interventions. Adapts daily workflow to accommodate fluctuations in patient load due to daily census variations, consults, acuity, staffing challenges. Develops and implements a plan of care for patients based on an expert assessment of life cycle- and diagnosis-specific nutritional needs. Assessment includes reviews of medical history and laboratory data, patient interviews, and physical examinations to determine the current nutritional status of inpatients and/or outpatients. Based on the assessment, the Clinical Dietitian develops and implements individualized nutrition plan of care interventions. Documents medical nutrition therapy plan of care in the electronic medical record supporting system clinical documentation and coding standards to maximize reimbursement rates.
- Prescribes enteral and parenteral nutrition support orders by assessing the patient and calculating macronutrients and/or micronutrients, fluid, and electrolytes. Evaluates patient tolerance and effectiveness of formulas and manages initiation or modifications to enteral/parenteral regimen orders. The Clinical Dietitian demonstrates extensive knowledge of specialized nutrition support (parenteral and enteral) and triages issues and concerns through collaboration with physicians and pharmacy. Constant, secure communication with system level Pharmacy Integrated Clinical Services (PICS) team to manage and order Total Parental Nutrition (TPN) infusions for critically ill patients in the hospital.
- The Clinical Dietitian prescribes orders for therapeutic diets, oral nutrition supplements, and nutrition support regimens, including vitamins/minerals, fluid management, and lab work as indicated within the scope of the Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) protocol. Utilizes order-writing privileges to implement nutrition related orders. Collaborates with Food and Nutrition patient services team to ensure patient intake aligns with nutrition prescription and interdisciplinary plan of care. Partners with site patient services team to identify and recommend appropriate clinical nutrition formula and supplement substitutions during supply chain disruptions to reduce and eliminate significant disruptions to patient care. Partners with physicians, nursing, and nutrition patient services to ensure diet restrictions, allergy restrictions, supplement preferences and tube feedings are consistent with patient needs and personal, religious, and cultural preferences. Develops patient-specific menus for patients admitted with complex dietary needs (e.g., multiple food allergies, numerous diet restrictions, and/or low-use, high risk diet orders).
- Leads efforts to identify, treat and prevent malnutrition. Performs Nutrition Focused Physical Examinations of high-risk patients to evaluate the loss of specific muscles and subcutaneous body fat to determine the presence of and degree of malnutrition. Communicates findings to the medical team through medical record documentation to ensure maximized reimbursement. Provides medical nutrition therapy education to patients identified with moderate or severe malnutrition to improve patient outcomes and to positively impact inpatient readmission rates.
- Routinely documents elements of the Global Malnutrition Composite Score (GMCS) for Medicare and Medicaid Services’ (CMS) Nutrition Electronic Quality Indicators. Participates in Quality Assessment Performance Improvement (QAPI) efforts to ensure nutrition care is safe and effective for patients. Maintains regulatory readiness. Supports department clinical initiatives to ensure compliance with safety initiatives, policies, and procedures, DNV regulations, and department standards.
- Identifies and documents billable nutrition diagnosis with supporting documentation. May provide clinical support to various hospital-based outpatient medical destination programs (e.g., cancer center, transplant clinic, digestive health programs, bariatric, cardiac rehab, heart failure, etc.) Enters charges for outpatient nutrition charge capture in electronic medical record.
- Supports partnerships with local didactic programs by precepting dietetic graduate students in clinical nutrition and/or foodservice management. Directs and monitors interns’ progress both daily and at designated touchpoints and provides feedback for growth and development. Communicates regularly with didactic program coordinator. Also, precepts medical residents and provides nutrition orientation as applicable. Provides nutrition lectures to medical residents for internal medicine, trauma, NICU/Peds, and family practice, as applicable.
- Collaborates routinely with discharge planners, home health, physicians, pharmacy, and other interdisciplinary teams to address the full scope of the system-established priority points protocol for inpatient care. Participates in interdisciplinary team rounds, meetings, and care conferences to coordinate and collaborate on nutrition goals. Assists with transition to home or outside facilities by partnering with Care Management and/or Home Health to coordinate home enteral and/or parenteral nutrition needs.
- Provides medical nutrition therapy education to patients on prescribed diet, per established priority system, to improve patient knowledge/understanding of nutrition, diet therapy and compliance on prescribed diet. Education is provided to inpatients, outpatients and family members through individual counseling and classes. May provide nutrition in-services to teammates, as applicable.
- Provides clinical input into system clinical nutrition initiatives and practice changes. Participates in system subgroups/projects, as assigned, to develop and implement evidence-based nutrition practices, clinical initiatives and/or practice changes. Partners with system patient services and clinical teams to deploy system changes and updates regarding CBORD, EPIC, menus, emergency preparedness, downtime processes, formulary, clinical procedures, and policies. Liaisons between clinical nutrition and inpatient nursing and physicians to champion system clinical nutrition initiatives (e.g., new dysphagia standards, malnutrition coding practice changes, enteral nutrition equipment changes, malnutrition nurse screening changes, safety protocol changes, etc.) Assists (via in-person or remote coverage) other sites throughout the State, as needed, to provide clinical nutrition coverage to assure equitable patient care.
Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required
- Dietitian certification issued by the Commission of Dietetic Registration (CDR)
- Dietitian (RD) registration with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics
- Licensure by the Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IL only)

Education Required
