Join our Pediatric Therapy team at Children's Village! Our multidisciplinary team is comprised of a diverse group of dedicated professionals providing comprehensive therapy services to children with developmental delays and disabilities. We incorporate many general and specialty lines of service, offer a strong mentorship program.
Our team enjoys the following aspects of working at Children's Village:
- Serve children ages 3-18 through evidence-based services.
- Provide in-person services in clinic, and community-based settings, allowing families to receive support where children naturally learn and grow.
- As part of our Children's Village team, there are ongoing educational opportunities to further develop skills in relationship-based and family-centered practice.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of OTs, PTs, SLPs, early childhood educators, nurses, and behavioral therapists to support positive developmental outcomes.
- Additional compensation available for qualified bilingual candidates.
Children's Village is a neurodevelopmental center providing more than 30 specialty services to children with special healthcare needs. As a leader in pediatric rehabilitation and Early Intervention services, we offer opportunities for collaboration across multiple disciplines to achieve the best outcomes for children and families. Position Summary
The Speech Pathologist is an exciting opportunity at MultiCare, providing clinical services and communication with patients, families, and other professionals/service providers in the medical community. This professional position will allow you to apply your extensive knowledge and expertise in of speech pathology with all of your patients.
Responsibilities
- You will provide assessment, interpretation, and reporting of clinical observations
- You will perform patient assessments with physician and develop treatment plans
- You will perform and interpret results of Videofluoroscpic swallow studies and fiberoptic endoscopic of swallowing
- You will confer with physician and other health care professionals
Requirements
- Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech Pathology (CCC-SLP) from the American Speech-Hearing-Language Association OR be in the process of completing a Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY) with supervision by a CCC-SLP in accordance with standards defined by the ASHA
- Licensed as a Speech Language Pathologist in the State of Washington or holding an interim permit
- Current BLS Certification required
- Previous Experience as a Speech Language Pathologist preferred

However, pay is influenced by factors specific to applicants, including but not limited to: skill set, level of experience, and certification(s) and/or education. In this highly technical, fast-paced, and rewarding position, you'll collaborate with multidisciplinary team members to provide the very best care for patients. The Speech Language Pathology position renders professional and technical speech and language therapy to assigned patients. POSITION PURPOSE
The Rehabilitation Services Staff Speech-Language Pathologist provides evaluation and treatment of hospital patients in a range of specialty programs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Maintains good rapport and cooperative relationships. Approaches conflict in a constructive manner. Helps to identify problems, offer solutions, and participates in their resolution.
2. Maintains the confidentiality of information acquired pertaining to patient, physicians, employees, and visitors to Chelsea Hospital. Discusses patient and hospital information only among appropriate personnel in appropriately private places.
3. Maintains knowledge to perform the duties of the job. Assumes responsibility for performance of job duties in the safest possible manner, to assure personal safety and that of coworkers, and to report all preventable hazards and unsafe practices immediately to management.
4. Demonstrates self-directed learning.
5. Behaves in accordance with the Mission, Vision and Values of Trinity Health.
6. Provides quality patient care by considering the age specific, development and cultural needs through competent clinical practice. Demonstrates unit/area competencies.
7. Identifies and assists in resolution of problems related to safety, sanitation and maintenance of the environment.
8. Practices effective communication in all interactions (patient, visitor, co-worker, etc.)
9. Promotes a positive work environment by demonstrating teamwork.

13. Implements patient care in a manner consistent with the therapy goals and the changing needs of the patient using a variety of therapeutic approaches.
14. Orients patients and families to the therapeutic purposes and procedures of Speech-Language Pathology, and educates them about home programs, impairments and progress.
15. Provides for own professional growth and education and contributes to staff development activities.
16. Stays up to date on all participating insurance guidelines for rehabilitation services.
17. Provides thorough documentation on each patient interaction. Documentation must be timely and include all pertinent information required by state law, accrediting agencies and 3rd party payers.
18. Completes daily charges for each patient while adhering to ethical practices per insurance guidelines for each payer.
19. Works with Manager, director and/or front desk staff to ensure schedules are managed well to achieve targeted productivity and clinic budget.
OTHER FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE
Education: Master’s Degree or higher in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited program

POSITION PURPOSE
Provides differential diagnosis of speech and language disorders and provides appropriate therapeutic intervention to maximize communication ability. Active participation is required in department in-services and educational programs. Assumes full responsibility for providing quality speech language pathology services in compliance with ASHA and State of Michigan SLP scope of practice. Independently provides comprehensive services to improve patient participation, independence, and functioning through the evaluation of medical necessity for skilled speech therapy services, evidence-based therapeutic interventions, multidisciplinary team involvement, counseling, referrals, and education. Continues to advance clinical skills through continuing education, evidenced based research, and program development. The speech-language pathologist is responsible for the maintenance of their national certification through ASHA as preferred, state licensure, and necessary requirements for continuing education. The Speech-Language Pathologist consults with, advises, reports to and is responsible to the Manager of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides evaluation and diagnosis of speech, language, swallowing and cognitive-communication disorders.
Designs and implements individual treatment plans.
Counsels’ patients and their families concerning social, behavioral and psychological problems associated with communication and swallowing disorders.

Maintain knowledge of current evidenced based practices in the field by reading the appropriate literature and attending professional conferences.

WORKING CONDITIONS

State of Michigan Speech-Language Pathologist License or Speech-Language Pathologist Educational Limited Temporary License during their clinical fellowship year (CF), or eligible to obtain licensure prior to hire date. Employee is expected to attain the full license once within one month of completing Clinical Fellowship Year as defined as 36 weeks and 1260 hours.
In the case of a CFY, attainment of the Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) in Speech-Language Pathology through ASHA is required once 36 hours and 1260 hours of employment is completed.
Preferred:
Hold and maintain the Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) in Speech-Language Pathology through ASHA or be provisionally accepted during their clinical fellowship year (CF). To act as a supervisor for a student or CFY, CCC must be maintained.
American Heart Association BLS or equivalent
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Analytical skills necessary to select and administer appropriate Speech-Language tests, differentially diagnose Speech-Language disorders, develop a treatment plan and modify treatment as patient progresses.
Strong written, verbal and interpersonal skills necessary to communicate effectively with patients, families, physicians and other professional/non-professional staff.
Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail for up to 70% of work-time when implementing evaluation/treatment services and maintaining patient documentation.

Independently provides comprehensive services to improve patient participation, independence, and functioning through the evaluation of medical necessity for skilled speech therapy services, evidence-based therapeutic interventions, multidisciplinary team involvement, counseling, referrals, and education. Continues to advance clinical skills through continuing education, evidenced based research, and program development. The speech-language pathologist is responsible for the maintenance of their national certification through ASHA as preferred, state licensure, and necessary requirements for continuing education. The Speech-Language Pathologist consults with, advises, reports to and is responsible to the Manager of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides evaluation and diagnosis of speech, language, swallowing and cognitive-communication disorders.
Designs and implements individual treatment plans.
Counsels’ patients and their families concerning social, behavioral and psychological problems associated with communication and swallowing disorders.
Provides thorough documentation of test data and Speech-Language progress.
Provides patient and family recommendations and referrals to appropriate health, educational and vocational sources.
Participates in patient conferences when appropriate and communicates with individual members of medical staff concerning patient treatment as necessary.
Organizes and participates in educational activities for patients, their families, and other health personnel.
Provides direction for graduate student affiliates and volunteers.
Maintain knowledge of current evidenced based practices in the field by reading the appropriate literature and attending professional conferences.
Assists manager in the development of new policies, procedures and programs as well as implementation.
Provides quality patient care considering age specific, developmental and cultural needs through competent practice and application of the speech-language pathology profession.

Hold and maintain the Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) in Speech-Language Pathology through ASHA or be provisionally accepted during their clinical fellowship year (CF). To act as a supervisor for a student or CFY, CCC must be maintained.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Analytical skills necessary to select and administer appropriate Speech-Language tests, differentially diagnose Speech-Language disorders, develop a treatment plan and modify treatment as patient progresses.
Strong written, verbal and interpersonal skills necessary to communicate effectively with patients, families, physicians and other professional/non-professional staff.
Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail for up to 70% of work-time when implementing evaluation/treatment services and maintaining patient documentation.

The SPEECH-LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST (SLP) evaluates for, plans, and implements specific treatment programs for individual patients ranging in age from newborn to geriatric with acquired or congenital impairments in cognition, communication, or swallowing functions for the purpose of training or restoring the highest possible level of functional independence. The Speech-Language Pathologist conducts video swallow evaluations in the Radiology Department with a Radiologist and the necessary Radiology Department staff. The Speech-Language Pathologist collaborates with the members of the interdisciplinary care team; prepares written documentation pertaining to patient evaluation and treatment sessions; schedules patient treatments and meetings; supervises the work of Rehabilitation Aides and Student Speech-Language Pathologists; assists in preparing and conducting inservice training and continuing education programs; and may participate in Performance Improvement activities and processes.Note: Position will provide services to Paola Hospital, Olathe Hospital, Paola Outpatient clinic, and Olathe Medical Pavillion D Outpatient Clinic.Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions
- Conducts Speech-Language Pathology evaluation in accordance with education, training, professional codes of ethics and standards, and department policy and procedure. Conducts patient interview and evaluates patients to determine the nature and extent of impairment in the areas of speech, language, voice, fluency, cognition, and dysphagia. Makes appropriate recommendations for medical referrals, Audiology services, or follow-up by other professionals. The SLP informs patients and/or family of test results and recommendations. Administers Speech-Language Pathology treatment which may include but is not limited to administering Speech-Language Pathology treatment, making recommendations to improve communication and swallowing skills, evaluating effects of treatments and adjusts treatments to achieve optimal benefits, and is responsible for recommending adaptive and assistive equipment.
- Educates nursing personnel, patients, and families, and professional staff, including Occupational Therapy, Speech-Language Pathology, Social Service, and Nutritional Care staff as to the objectives of Speech Language Pathology. Enlists the aid of other professionals in observing patient's speech and swallowing patterns and carrying out suggestions made by the SLP. Informs patient and family of problems, goals, estimated completion date, and treatment plan. Instructs patient and family in home management procedures.
- Confers with physicians and other health care practitioners to obtain additional patient information, suggest revisions in treatment programs and Integrate Speech-Language Pathology treatment with other aspects of patient health care.
- Manages patient schedule to maximize efficiency and productivity (toward SLP target) and works to reduce cancellations and other situations that reduce the ability to meet patient's needs.
- Prepares written documentation pertaining to patient evaluation and treatment sessions per Department Policy and Procedure by recording the initial functional and clinical status of the patient in the evaluation report, which also includes problems, goals, estimated completion date, and treatment plan, recording progress of the patient through daily and weekly progress reports, recording the discharge status of the patient through completion of a discharge report, and keeping outpatient charts are neat and contain all required referrals, forms, and information based on the patient's case.
- Completes and hands in end user audit reports and volume reports on the date of service and completes accurate charging of patient based on services provided, number of evaluations, screens, and hours in meetings, and number of visits, units billed, and cancellations.
- Supervises work of Rehabilitation Aides, through orienting, instructing, and directing work activities of Rehabilitation Aides as pertains to their assistance in patient treatment programs and department operations."

Interprets physician referrals and conducts a speech and language evaluation of patients with various speech, language, voice, cognitive and swallowing disorders.
Establishes a written plan of care and implements individual treatment based on evaluation results, functional goals and by utilizing appropriate techniques. Monitors and evaluates outcomes and appropriately adjusts the individualized treatment plan based on the patient's response to treatment and provides status updates to physicians and other teammates. Identifies factors affecting patient's physical and psychosocial comfort and attends to these needs.
Plans for and completes patient discharge including providing written home programs, patient/family teaching, referral for community services, transition planning within the continuum of care and ordering equipment as indicated/appropriate. Communicates and collaborates with appropriate stakeholders to assist in achieving optimum care for the patient.
Completes all required documentation following department policy and accreditation standards with appropriate co- signatures, including patient evaluations, progress notes, team conference reports, and discharge summaries as appropriate. Record patient care and progress of each patient assigned. Completes daily statistics, billing, and scheduling. Applies insurance guidelines regarding authorization and number of visits. Responsible for maintaining site/department established productivity standards. Responsible for understanding and adhering to all billing and documentation policies, procedures, and timelines.
Responsible for cleaning up after patient treatment, putting away equipment, and keeping area neat and orderly. Performs various manual techniques, patient positioning and transporting duties, which require lifting and pushing/pulling, while utilizing proper technique. Demonstrates skill in use of modalities, exercise equipment and other devices that are available in area worked per department orientation checklist. Demonstrates knowledge of indications and contraindications of modalities. Promotes patient safety by participating in safety initiatives as requested and appropriately follows all safety and infection control measures pertaining to the general working environment.
Participates in performance improvement activities designed to identify and resolve problems affecting patient care outcomes and to improve quality of care. Manages assigned caseload, informing site leadership of coverage needs and ability to cover; assists with coverage, based on department needs and regional needs.
Pursues professional growth through participation in continuing education courses, department in-services, and reading professional literature. Orients new staff to clinical and department policies as requested. Participates in the evaluation process of co-workers by providing verbal or written feedback as requested.
May supervise non-licensed personnel following all applicable state and local compliance requirements. Includes delegating patients to assistive personnel while providing direction, recommendations regarding treatment and ongoing supervision while maintaining responsibility for patient plan of care and goals. Supports the student clinical education program by monitoring, observing, and providing work direction to a minimum of one student per year unless students are unavailable.
Minimum Job Requirements
Education
Master’s degree in Speech Pathology from an accredited school or educational requirements commensurate with the date of graduation; maintains continuing education requirements as mandated by applicable state professional standards.
Certification / Registration / License
Speech Language Pathologist license issued by the state in which the teammate practices. If the teammate supports multiple states, licensure in at least one of those states is required prior to hire.
Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers (obtained within 90 days unless department leader has determined is not required) American Heart Association.
Work Experience
CCC SLP required. Previous Clinical SLP Experience preferred.

- Licensed as a Speech Language Pathologist in the State of Washington or holding an interim permit
- Current BLS Certification required
- Previous Experience as a Speech Language Pathologist preferred
