Job Description:
The Medical Technologist/Medical Laboratory Scientist performs a variety of laboratory tests of varying complexity to be utilized in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. Caregivers in this role will gain valuable experience and knowledge to help prepare them for workplace and career advancement. The Registered Med Tech/MLS performs testing in various departments of the clinical lab such as: Hematology, Chemistry, Microbiology and Transfusion and more. These scientists act as technical experts to clinical staff, co-workers, and other departments. They are critical to patient diagnosis and care, ensuring accurate results through quality control, proficiency testing, calibrations, record review, instrument maintenance, and results/analyzer troubleshooting.

Essential Functions:
- Performing Laboratory Tests: Conducting a variety of tests on blood, tissue, and other body fluids to help diagnose medical conditions.
- Analyzing Test Results: Interpreting and analyzing test results to provide accurate and reliable data for patient diagnosis and treatment.
- Operating and maintaining Laboratory equipment: Using and maintaining sophisticated laboratory equipment and instruments, ensuring they are properly calibrated and functioning correctly.
- Quality control and Assurance: Implementing and monitoring quality control procedures to ensure the accuracy and reliability of test results.
- Preparing samples: collecting, preparing, and handling biological samples following proper protocols to avoid contamination and degradation.
- Recording and Reporting Data: Accurately recording test results and preparing detailed reports for healthcare providers.
- Maintaining Laboratory Safety: Adhering to safety protocols and guidelines to maintain a safe and sterile laboratory environment.
- Troubleshooting equipment issues: Identifying and resolving technical problems with laboratory equipment.
- Collaborating with Healthcare Professionals: Working closely with doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to discuss test results and assist in patient care decisions.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in clinical laboratory/medical technology science or chemical, physical, biological, or equivalent. Education must be obtained through an accredited institution. Applicants with chemical, physical, biological science or equivalent bachelor’s degree will be subject to education verification which may include transcript/credit evaluation by Laboratory Services Quality Assurance leadership, Required.
- OR - Completion of course work and internship requirements in a qualified MLS program and eligibility to sit for the BOC. Certification must be completed and documented within 6 months of hire to remain in the registered MLS role, Required.
- Medical Technologist / Medical Lab Scientist ASCP certification or equivalent certification as approved by Manager and Human Resources. Certification must be maintained to remain in job, Required.
- Flexibility to work a variety of shifts that may include weekends, holidays, nights and on-call, Required.
- Montana applicants must have state licensure or temporary state licensure, Required.
- Foreign applicants must submit a foreign transcript evaluation by an acceptable agency approved by Laboratory Quality Assurance, Required.
- Basic Life Support certification (BLS) for healthcare providers at sites that require certification, Required.
Physical Requirements:
- Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.
- Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.
- Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.
- Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.
- Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc.)
- May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.
- For roles requiring driving: Expected to drive a vehicle which requires sitting, seeing and reading signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles. or other equipment.

This job supervises the Patient Access functions. Monitors and manages patient flow to minimize patient wait times. Education
Required - High school diploma or equivalent.

Work Experience
Required - Minimum of 7 years of experience in a hospital, clinic, medical office, business services/revenue cycle, or other customer service-related environment. Experience may include front line registration, financial counseling, banking, retail, or similar roles involving direct customer or patient interaction;

Job Duties
- Manages staff performance and productivity while ensuring adherence to departmental customer service initiatives by performing audits on staff performance.
- Works with leadership to establish monthly departmental goals based on key metrics and develops team initiatives and goals.
- Manages patient flow and adjusts staffing according to volume to minimize patient wait times.
- Facilitates conflict mitigation within and across departments; identifies, communicates, and removes barriers to departmental performance.
- Manages staff schedules to ensure adequate coverage.
- Interviews and recommends candidates for hire and coordinates training to develop staff.
- Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to: respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style.

Physical and Environmental Demands

Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. (Constantly: activity or condition exists 2/3 or more of the time) to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Sedentary Work. Even though the weight lifted may be only a negligible amount, a job should be rated Light Work: (1) when it requires walking or standing to a significant degree; or (2) when it requires sitting most of the time but entails pushing and/or pulling of arm or leg controls; and/or (3) when the job requires working at a production rate pace entailing the constant pushing and/or pulling of materials even though the weight of those materials is negligible. 9. Produces diagnostic quality images utilizing CT equipment and effectively judges CT images for proper technique to best demonstrate anatomy and pathology. Performs critical procedures under stress during emergency procedures.
10. If applicable, performs diagnostic studies using mobile radiographic equipment in emergency or patient rooms as ordered by physician. Performs diagnostic studies in surgical suite with C-Arm and other equipment.
11. Provides care specific to the needs of neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.
12. May perform IV insertion/blood draws.
13. Administer IV/Oral/Rectal contrast for CT imaging procedures per radiologist protocol/department manual and ordering physician/care provider order.
14. Utilize PACS to ensure exams are completed and available for the radiologist to read and for the referring physician/care provider review.
15. Performs all related duties as assigned by department manager or other duties assigned by lead technologist.

2. Evaluates and intervenes retrospectively for coverage issues, payor outliers, split billing, disallowed charges, incorrect DRG codes, denial and compliance issues.
3. Quantifies, analyzes, and monitors industry/Medicare trends in order to reduce denials and improve the financial outcomes for the organization. Makes recommendations for improvements based on these trends.
4. Serves as a resource and provides leadership assistance to achieve optimal clinical, operational, financial, and satisfaction outcomes across the system as related to federal, state and commercial reimbursements. Acts as a consultant across the organization to facilities with questions related to proper use of DRG codes.
5. Supports change and participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of the goals/objectives and process improvement activities across the organization as related to federal, state and commercial reimbursements.
6. Corporate based position with no budgetary responsibility. Internally, this position interacts with physicians, clinicians correct and management across the system. Externally, this position interacts with RAC Auditors and other organizations.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Requires Registered Nurse (R.N.) licensure in the state of practice.
Requires experience in federal, state and commercial reimbursements and in reviewing clinical information typically acquired in three years auditing DRG coding and reimbursements. Requires five or more years of clinical nursing and/or related experience. Experience in evaluation techniques, teaching, hospital operations, reimbursement methods, medical staff relations, and the charging/billing process is required. A working knowledge of utilization management and patient services is required. A working knowledge of Medical and third party payor requirements and reimbursement methodologies is required. Highly developed human relation and communication skills are required. Must demonstrate critical thinking, problem-solving, effective communication, and time management skills. Requirements
- High school graduate or equivalent preferred.
- Current Washington or Idaho state driver’s license (driving is not required for this position at Navos Hospital).
- IAHSS basic certification or ability to obtain within one (1) year of hire date.
- Minimum six (6) months of experience in police, military, or security, preferable in a health care setting.
- Proof of a safe driving record (which meets established MultiCare Standards) obtained by a motor vehicle report from the appropriate state. (Not required at Navos Hospital)
- BLS certification or obtained within 30 days of hire.
- First Aid training within 30 days of hire.

Pay and Benefit Expectations
We provide a comprehensive benefits package, including competitive salary, medical, dental and retirement benefits and paid time off. As required by various pay transparency laws, we share a competitive range of compensation for candidates hired into each position. The pay scale is $24.83 - $35.71 USD. However, pay is influenced by factors specific to applicants, including but not limited to: skill set, level of experience, and certification(s) and/or education. If this position is associated with a union contract, pay will be reflective of the appropriate step on the pay scale to which the applicant’s years of experience align.

Summary:
Under the supervision of a RN, the Monitor Technician monitors, recognizes, and interprets cardiac rhythms while identifying deviations in patients' baseline, and changes in SP02. The Monitor Technician notifies the registered nurse of changes to a patient's status and initiates the appropriate emergency response by the critical care team in the event of a lethal arrhythmia, including irregular heart rhythms and cardiac arrest.
Responsibilities:
Identifies and corrects for artifacts.Documents the electrocardiograph tracings of patients on telemetry monitors.Activates emergency response or rapid response for lethal arrhythmia or cardiac arrest.Identifies arrhythmias, deviation in each patient's baseline, signs of patient deterioration, and intervenes to ensure patient safety.Records information in patient's log and maintains accurate, neat account of patient's cardiac monitoring status during episode of care. Identifies and records patient's rhythm and changes in patient rhythm and condition. Updates patient's records with all readings taken from the heart monitor or EKGs.Reports abnormal or change in patient's telemetry monitoring to nursing staff or immediate supervisor or designated chain of command.Attaches electrode to patients' bodies to record electrical impulses from the heart to perform continuous ECG Monitoring.Performs continual and simultaneous surveillance for the operation of complex cardiac monitoring systems, including ECG rhythm screens, computerized dysrhythmia detection system and rhythm printers.

Job Description
Minimum Qualifications
Education: High School Diploma or GED and one (1) year of formal training or education in a related allied/clinical healthcare profession
Licenses/ Certifications: Certified by the Board of Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) or the International Association of Healthcare Central Service Materials Management (IAHCSMM) required or must obtain within one (1) year of hire date
Experience / Knowledge / Skills:
Minimum of one (1) year experience in Sterile Processing or a related allied/clinical healthcare profession role (e.g. Medical Assistant, Scrub Tech, etc)
Ability to follow oral and written instructions in English language
Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations
Ability to lift and/or maneuver supplies and equipment in conjunction with others in order to perform job functions
Demonstrated ability to perform basic computer skills
Demonstrated ability to think critically and apply problem-solving skills
Effective oral and written communication skills

Principal Accountabilities
Fundamental knowledge of the Sterile Processing department rules, procedures and processes.
Accurately handles and cares for instruments/equipment appropriately, including appropriate selection of cleaning agents, lubricants, examination for function, identification and assembly according to count sheet and preparation for sterilization.
Identifies, documents, and reports equipment and tools in need of repair and ensures maintenance is completed.
Organizes, prepares, assembles, and sterilizes instruments, equipment and supplies according to hospital/medical facility standards of sterilization.
Correctly peel-pack supplies/instruments, wraps instruments for sterilization, inspects each instrument for use, function, completeness, and cleanliness.
Loads, monitors, operates and maintains different types of cleaning and sterilization equipment and machinery accurately and safely.
Assists in maintaining records of all equipment and supplies, ordering of supplies as needed, and monitoring quality control and infection control standards.
Increases knowledge base by accepting more complex assignments regularly.
Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors; adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity and quality of service.
Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor and resource to less experienced staff.
