Job Description:
- Pharmacy Tech II is a certified pharmacy technician position who supports pharmacy services by assembling and participating in the distribution of medications. A pharmacy technician II will need certification by a nationally recognized certification board. This position will assist the department’s professional staff, under direct supervision, in numerous aspects of ordering, receiving, storage, distribution, and monitoring medication use.
Requirements/Preferred Qualifications:
- Registration with Kentucky Board of Pharmacy (KY hospitals), within 30 days of hire date if you are a new registrant. If previously registered, you must have registration upon hire.
- Nationally certified as a pharmacy technician.
- Pharmacy work experience preferred.

Arizona is a year-round destination. Sunny skies and low humidity prevail 300 days a year across the state. As a Pharmacy Distribution Technician, you will work out of a warehouse. Your primary responsibility is fulfilling orders for hospitals, clinics, urgent cares and pharmacies for bulk medication orders, along with replenishing the bays with more product and rotating stock. You will purchase medication from vendors via direct orders as assigned by management and reconcile invoices against purchase orders. Forklift certification is required, the training will be provided through supply chain if you do not already have certification.
The schedule for this position is Monday - Friday 6:00 AM- 2:30 PM.

This position is responsible for the accurate picking, packing, and shipping of medication and supply orders to the entire Banner Health system including but not limited to acute care, urgent care, clinics, and retail pharmacies, ensuring timely and precise order fulfillment. The role manages inventory maintenance and annual inventory coordination for departmental medications and supplies that will provide cost savings to the entire system as well as medication stock security. The position requires comprehensive knowledge of current medication usage patterns, handling of hazardous medications, and departmental requirements. Additional responsibilities include managing medication recalls, processing returns, reconciling invoices, coordinating the removal of expired inventory, and maintaining a clean and organized warehouse environment while maintaining compliance with all regulatory standards. Procurement duties may be assigned by management on an as-needed basis.
CORE FUNCTIONS
1. Picks, packs, and ships medication and supply orders to all facilities including acute care, urgent care, clinics, compounding and retail pharmacies. Ensures accurate order fulfillment, proper packaging, and timely delivery to meet facility needs. Operates forklift equipment safely and efficiently as needed (certification required within 30 days of hire).
2. Maintains warehouse cleanliness, organization, and safety standards. Performs routine cleaning tasks, organizes storage areas, ensures proper placement of inventory, and maintains clear pathways and work areas. Identifies and addresses safety hazards promptly with management.
3. Maintains optimal inventory levels through regular assessments and monitoring to support strategic supply resilience. Performs routine cycle counting to ensure inventory accuracy and identify discrepancies. Conducts scheduled counts of medications and supplies, documents findings, and resolves variances. Performs procurement activities as assigned by management, which may include submitting orders to local wholesalers and direct accounts when directed.
4. Reconciles received merchandise against invoices, codes invoices for payment processing, and handles invoice processing according to current Accounts Payable standards. Collaborates with vendor representatives to resolve billing issues.
5. Manages medication recall processes by removing affected medications from inventory, processing returns, and completing required documentation per recall notices. Maintains organized files and comprehensive documentation related to all medication recalls.
6. Coordinates the removal of expired and unusable items from inventory. Processes outdated and unusable medications through the designated returns company for reimbursement. Manages invoices and maintains detailed documentation for all returned medications.
7. Participates in all aspects of medication management, storage, and dispensing. Serves internal customers such as patients, nurses, licensed independent practitioners, nursing directors, department directors, administrators, and healthcare team members to integrate services, enhance patient care, and ensure effective communication. Works with management to resolve any customer service issues and provide dedicated excellent customer service.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Requires Pharmacy Technician licensure and active Pharmacy Technician certification.
Minimum of four years pharmacy technician experience.
Incumbents in Arizona are also required to provide the AZ Board of Pharmacy Wallet Card at time of hire.
Forklift certification must be obtained within 30 days of hire; internal training and testing will be provided during business hours.
Strong customer service focus, exceptional communication skills, strong attention to detail, prioritization capabilities, superior problem-solving skills, and ability to multi-task. Must demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills for interfacing with all levels of staff, physicians, patients, and other contacts.
Ability to complete moderate to difficult mathematical calculations using a hand-held calculator is required.
Ability to use multiple software packages on a personal computer and have a working knowledge of Medication Management Information System (MMIS).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Work experience which demonstrates analytical ability, judgment and interpersonal skills in pharmacy or healthcare preferred. Experience and proficiency with computer software applications (Word, Excel, Outlook) or comparable programs.
Additional related education and/or experience preferred.

As a Pharmacy Technician Trainee at MercyOne, while studying towards certification, within limits of current training, and under the direct supervision of a Registered Pharmacist and general supervision of a Licensed Technician, the Pharmacy Technician Trainee will:
1. Learn how to prepare medication orders, including both sterile and non-sterile compounds. processing physician medication orders to ensure medications are promptly, accurately, and safely delivered.
2. Ensure all work meets regulatory compliance standards as related to the Pharmacy, Pharmacy Automation, Billing, and Inventory, USP 795 / 797.
3. Provides courteous, cooperative, and timely service to patients, visitors, and colleagues.

Education:
- Currently in High School, High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Registration with the State of Iowa as a pharmacy technician (or technician trainee if awaiting certification) upon hire and prior to starting position within the pharmacy.
- Pharmacy Technician Certification: National certification must be acquired and maintained from the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB), or the National Health career Association prior to the expiration date of a Pharmacy Technician in Training registration. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Practices in accordance with all federal (e.g., Drug Supply Chain Security Act), state, and DFCI and Joint Commission policies, regulations, and standards.
- Performs daily returns-to-stock, cycle counts and ensures on-hand accuracy of all Rx and OTC inventory.
- Responsible for all pharmacy iventory related activities such as commercial drug storage within the pharmacy.

- Provides assistance and training to staff on the appropriate storage of products, and whether such products are appropriate to be broken open. Uses notes within the Pharmacy Dispensing System to help staff identify proper handling of products.
- Receives inventory accurately in Pharmacy Management System and maintains invoice documents appropriately.
- Serves as the primary point of contact for transfers of inventory between OPD satellite locations.
- Identifies products for staff that require special handling due to their hazardous nature and trains staff on such handling.
- Leads the orientation and training of all pharmacy staff for inventory related policy, procedures, and technology.
- Leads the orientation and training of all inventory-related processes including the use multiple inventory systems (e.g., Parata, Carousel). May conduct site visits to remote locations to ensure inventory process are being followed and providing hands-on re-training as necessary.

Under the direct supervision of a pharmacist, this position is responsible for the preparation, dispensing, and delivery of medications for patients. Completes other tasks associated with drug distribution processes, automated dispensing systems, packaging, IV systems, training, and scheduling.I. Major Responsibilities:
1. Answers telephone calls and triages requests from customers to the pharmacist staff.
2. Triages window requests from customers.
3. Delivers medications to the patient care areas and picks up copies of physician orders, return of medications, etc. Completes scheduled rounds on patient care areas.

Under the supervision of a pharmacist, completes all necessary tasks associated with day- to-day operations of Pyxis distribution system including refilling medications, loading new medications, inventory maintenance, expiration dating, returning bin procedures, troubleshooting for nursing and pharmacy, customer service resolution for nursing and pharmacy, and controlled substance discrepancy resolution assistance for the pharmacist staff as needed.

The Department of Pharmacy Services of Baptist Health Lexington provides pharmaceutical services to patients across the continuum of care. These services include, but are not limited to verification of medication orders, drug distribution, sterile product preparation, hazardous drug preparation, and utilization of automated dispensing cabinets.
Description:
- Supports pharmacy services by obtaining medication and allergy histories for patients that will be admitted to the hospital. Information is obtained by interviewing the patient, patient family, calling pharmacies, long term care facilities and/or other providers
- Information obtained is communicated to pharmacists and health care providers to determine treatment plans and medication orders during hospitalization and post discharge from the hospital.
- Obtains an accurate medication and allergy history by interviewing the patient, family, pharmacy, long term care facility, and/or other providers.
- Screens and reviews patient medications for problems related to duplications, contraindications due to allergies or new conditions, NPO status, and communicates problems to the pharmacist.
- Accurately creates a medication reconciliation list that contains the drug name, dose, strength, frequency, and route for all prescription, over the counter, herbal, and professional samples that the patient is taking, and validates how the patient takes their medications.
- Documents changes in the historical medication list within the EMR.

Under the direct supervision of a technician supervisor and pharmacist, performs medication related tasks such as packaging, preparation of all forms of medications, record keeping, and all non judgmental aspects of drug distribution.I. Major Responsibilities:

9. Repackages bulk drugs in unit of use containers.
10. Assists in quality indicator monitoring.

How You’ll Impact Patient Care:
Your responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Pharmacy Technician III is a role that builds upon the skills and competencies of the Pharmacy Technician I and Pharmacy Technician II as part of a professional career pathway. Fills orders with appropriate medications for review and approval by a Registered Pharmacist. Performs a variety of related technical, clerical and supply duties. The duties may vary somewhat depending on location of work (i.e. outpatient retail pharmacy, inpatient pharmacy, infusion pharmacy, etc) or shift assignment. The technician will be responsible for competency in the requirement of Pharmacy Technician II as well as those outlined below in the Additional Job Description
Pharmacy Technician I:
- High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required.
- 3-6 months of experience and/or training in hospital, retail pharmacy or elsewhere - OR - equivalent combination of education and experience is preferred.
- If not previously trained, a 3-month formal training in pharmacy procedures is preferred.
- Temporary or permanent Michigan Pharmacy Technician license required upon hire with permanent Michigan Pharmacy Tech licensure required within one year from issuance of temporary license. Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) certification is required by the State of Michigan to transition from temporary to permanent licensure. Failure to obtain permanent licensure in required timeframe would end employment.
- Students currently enrolled in an accredited school of pharmacy with a valid pharmacy intern license are not required to have Pharmacy Technician Certification.
- Skills in mathematics and basic algebra.
- Ability to read, interpret and analyze data from various systems and equipment in order to set an appropriate plan of action in coordination with the pharmacists.
- Effective communication skills to report and discuss findings, as needed with pharmacists, hospital personnel and external customers

- Job duties specific to outpatient/retail pharmacy include: prescription processing, inventory management (re-stocking, rotation of stock, expired medication removal), performing a prescription sales transaction through the point of sale system and cash register, prescription filling, answering and responding to phone calls, prioritizes and processes orders per instruction from the pharmacist, and maintains work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition and documents as required.
- Job duties specific to hospital pharmacy include: inventory management (re-stocking, rotation of stock, expired medication removal), delivery of supplies and medications to the nursing units, operating the medication carousel (at selected locations), answering and responding to phone calls, packaging/repackaging medications, assist in receiving the medication delivery, prepare non-sterile medication compounds, completes assigned inspections of medication storage locations, prioritizes and processes orders per instruction from the pharmacist, and maintains work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition and documents as required
Pharmacy Technician II:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
- Permanent Pharmacy Technician license in good standing with State of Michigan is required.
- Internal applicants must have no current disciplinary action plans and the most recent performance evaluation score above 2.0.

• Job duties specific to hospital or infusion pharmacy includes: all those required for Pharmacy Technician I as well as one or more of the following: assisting the pharmacist in obtaining patient home medication histories and clarifying/reconciling home medications; utilizing the teach back method, able to provide patient medication education under the direction or supervision of the pharmacist; perform sterile medication compounding, which may include parenteral nutrition preparation, following institution policies, procedures, and protocols consistent with USP <797>; running and maintaining any pharmacy robotic medication compounding equipment; assisting the pharmacist, with oversight in reviewing and comprehending pharmacokinetic reports, collect and enter patient height/weight into the department documentation system, review and comprehend patient lab reports or other unit specific information.
Pharmacy Technician III:

- Job duties specific to outpatient retail pharmacy include: all those required for Pharmacy Technician I and II as well as one or more of the following: supporting the beside medication delivery program (meds to beds) which includes assisting the pharmacist in obtaining patient home medication histories and clarifying/reconciling home medication, coordinating the delivery of the medication to the patient, interacting with other hospital personnel to coordinate medication therapy for the patient; specialty pharmacy program support which includes coordination of shipping, medication ordering, inventory management of specialty prescriptions.
- Job duties specific to hospital or infusion pharmacy include: all those required for Pharmacy Technician I and II and one or more of the following: chemotherapy compounding following institutional policies, procedures, and protocols consistent with USP <797> and USP <800>; advanced level home medication histories for admission reconciliation in the emergency department, advanced level pharmacy buying; advanced level automated dispensing cabinet configuration, maintenance, and optimization; controlled substance diversion monitoring; advanced inventory management; departmental scheduling for large departments.
- Additional criteria to be considered includes active professional organization involvement; mentoring, leadership, or ownership roles on projects/activities within the department or organization.
