The pharmacy technician works as an entry-level position focused on medication delivery and inventory management. The position has basic patient/provider service responsibilities through communication and message retrieval.Job Duties:
- Provide patient/provider/customer care
- Use the pharmacy computer system to facilitate patient care
- Participate in patient/provider/customer care activities that do not require the expertise of a pharmacist
- Prepare and label medications appropriately for distribution.

Performs pharmaceutical procedures for medication preparation and distribution that ensures safe, effective, and cost-efficient medication therapy. Prepares, compounds, packages, labels, and dispenses medication, nutritional products, and non-hazardous IV admixture and solutions. Adheres to all standards, procedures, cleaning protocols, and infection control polices to maintain a safe and sterile medication area, clean rooms, and laminar flow hoods. Assists with medicine and supplies inventory management and control, including maintaining adequate stock levels, checking accuracy of pricing, and completing required regulatory documentation. Exercises sound judgment and has developed clinical skills to provide pharmaceutical support to the patient’s plan of care based on the diagnosis in a timely manner. Adheres to all local/state/federal regulations, codes, policies, and procedures to ensure privacy and safety. May also be responsible for performing other specific tasks and/or orienting other staff to the department. Able to serve as the primary trainer and competency administrator for new staff for inpatient pharmacy technician tasks. Perform functions such as patient medication history interviews and documentation in the electronic medical record independent of performance in other pharmacy tasks. TYPICAL EXPERIENCE:
- 1 year recent relevant experience.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
- Knowledge of medical terminology, generic and trade pharmaceutical names, pharmaceutical calculations and laws and regulations.
- Knowledge and understanding of different Pharmacy practice settings, including narcotic delivery and procedures.
- Knowledge and ability to identify and employ pharmaceutical and medical terms, abbreviations and symbols commonly used in prescribing, dispensing, and record keeping of medications.
- Requires a basic working knowledge of legal requirements and accreditation standards including National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP), The Joint Commission (TJC), Title XXII, United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and United States Pharmacopeia (USP).
- Possess written and verbal communications skills to explain sensitive information clearly and professionally to diverse audiences, including non-medical people.
- Well-developed time management and organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize assignments and work within standardized operating procedures and scientific methods to achieve objectives and meet deadlines.
- General knowledge of computer applications, such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and Outlook), related pharmaceutical technology, EHR, and EPIC.
- Carry out calculations and execute basic math skills needed for common dosage determination.
- Prioritize assignments and work within standardized policies, procedures, and scientific methods to achieve objectives and meet deadlines.

Baptist Health is looking for a Courier to join our team at the Central Pharmacy in LaGrange, KY!
- Safely transports prescription medications, refill orders, specialty medications, supplies, and pharmacy inventory between the Central Pharmacy Service Center and designated facilities.
- Maintains chain of custody and security of all medications during transport.
- Ensures medications requiring refrigeration or other temperature controls are transported according to established policies and procedures.
- Verifies delivery and receipt documentation as required.
- Responds promptly to urgent medication delivery requests to support patient care and operational needs.
- Maintains daily activity logs reflecting delivery routes, stops completed, and items transported.
- Delivers pharmacy supplies, inventory items, equipment, mail, and operational materials in a timely and efficient manner.
- Collects and returns pharmacy-related documents, records, and shipments requiring interfacility transfer.
- Assists with movement of inventory between pharmacy locations to support stock optimization and operational continuity.
- Sorts and organizes delivery items according to planned routes to ensure efficient distribution.

- Maintains the courier vehicle by keeping it clean, full of gas and serviced to ensure the vehicle is in good operating condition.

Major Responsibilities:
- Assists licensed pharmacist in technical duties related to preparation and distribution of medications.
- Accurately selects, prepares, and labels medications for patients including hazardous drugs and controlled substances.
- Assists with medication distribution tasks.

Description:
- Supports pharmacy services by obtaining medication and allergy histories for patients that will be admitted to the hospital. Information is obtained by interviewing the patient, patient family, calling pharmacies, long term care facilities and/or other providers
- Information obtained is communicated to pharmacists and health care providers to determine treatment plans and medication orders during hospitalization and post discharge from the hospital.
- Obtains an accurate medication and allergy history by interviewing the patient, family, pharmacy, long term care facility, and/or other providers.
- Screens and reviews patient medications for problems related to duplications, contraindications due to allergies or new conditions, NPO status, and communicates problems to the pharmacist.
- Accurately creates a medication reconciliation list that contains the drug name, dose, strength, frequency, and route for all prescription, over the counter, herbal, and professional samples that the patient is taking, and validates how the patient takes their medications.
- Documents changes in the historical medication list within the EMR.

8. Assembles drugs in an accurate and efficient manner for pharmacists to check; maintains a clean and orderly work area.
9. Repackages bulk drugs in unit of use containers.
10. Assists in quality indicator monitoring.
11. Assists with yearly inventory in assigned areas.
12. Participates in identifying problems or areas for improvement and assists supervisor with problem solving projects and improving operations; participates in Continuous Quality Improvement activities and/or teams.

How You’ll Impact Patient Care:

Assists in all aspects of drug distribution that do not require the professional judgment of a pharmacist. Interns function in accordance with standard, written procedures and guidelines under the supervision of a pharmacist.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
1. Must possess current license or trainee license as required by state board where services will be provided:
MD: Pharmacy Intern or Pharmacy Technician license through Maryland Board of Pharmacy
OH: Pharmacy Intern or Pharmacy Technician license through Ohio Board of Pharmacy
WV: Pharmacy Intern License (Registration) or Pharmacy Technician license through West Virginia Board of Pharmacy
PA: Pharmacy Intern license through Pennsylvania Board of Pharmacy
2. Must be enrolled in or accepted to an accredited School of Pharmacy OR graduate of an approved college of pharmacy or graduate of a foreign pharmacy who has obtained Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Examination Committee certificate for purposes of getting required intern hours OR qualified graduate who is awaiting examination for licensure OR individual participating in a residency or fellowship program.
CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by people assigned to this position. They are not intended to be constructed as an all-inclusive list of all responsibilities and duties. Other duties may be assigned.
1. Responsible for reading physician’s orders, preparing medications, delivering medications, and ordering and delivering drug supplies for various patient‑care units.
2. Reads physician's orders and prepares medication for dispensing, including unique dosage forms for pediatric and geriatric patient populations.
3. Has an understanding of standard pharmaceutical/medical terms, abbreviations and symbols commonly used in the prescribing and dispensing of medications.
4. Interprets cart fill lists and uses this information to replenish patient's medications in medication carts and delivers contents to patient care areas according to schedule.
5. Accurately prepares and delivers controlled substances to patient units and maintains all necessary records.
6. Takes inventory and analyzes patient‑care area medication supplies, replacing outdated or deteriorated medications; replaces depleted inventory.
7. Assists in the preparation of sterile parenteral products under the supervision of a pharmacist.
8. Accurately prepares intravenous admixtures, including dilutions for pediatric patients, parenteral chemotherapy, parenteral nutrition, other injectable preparations, and sterile irrigating solutions using aseptic technique.
9. Accurately enters information related to parenteral admixtures, parenteral chemotherapy, parenteral nutrition, and other injectable products in Pharmacy IV and TPN Computer Systems.
10. Labels parenteral products appropriately.
11. Performs general operational functions of a pharmacy intern.
12. Performs arithmetic calculations for usual dosage determinations required in medication and solution preparation.
13. Performs initial check for pediatric doses for appropriateness based on weight and gestational age.
14. Performs in accordance with departmental standards established for speed and accuracy.
15. Prepares and labels prepackaged medications after determining usage patterns and prepackaging requirements. Also maintains records related to this.
16. Maintains inventory and supplies in assigned pharmacy service areas.
17. Answers telephone and channels calls to appropriate individual.
18. Ensures that the pharmacy service areas and drug storage areas in the institution are kept clean and orderly.
19. Participates in planning and implementing change and maintaining and improving productivity through attendance and participation in staff meetings, committees, task forces and projects.
20. Assists in the education of pharmacy students, pharmacy residents, new pharmacists, new pharmacy technicians and pharmacy interns.
21. Prepares, processes and reprocess patient’s prescriptions and adjudications
22. Follows up with third parties on rejected claims and coordinates efforts to fix the problem
23. Assist with medication management therapy and pharmaceutical adherence programs
24. Works and coordinates with unit floors in discharge patients’ prescription and costs.

1. Requires pushing/pulling of carts weighing up to one hundred pounds and lifting of boxes containing twenty-five or more pounds of sterile fluids.
