Geisinger is proud to offer an Emergency Room Technician I a $1500 sign on bonus for eligible candidates, $15.91 minimum hiring rate with increased rates for experienced individuals and up to $3 shift differentials for evening, nights, and weekend shifts! Performs basic patient care under supervision of the Registered Nurse and maintains the patient care and unit environment consistent with the policies, procedures and practices. Meets the qualifications to provide care for patients in the specific age range on their assigned clinical area. Promotes a caring and healing environment for patient-centered care.
- Triages patient care by identifying, observing and documenting the physical needs of the patient and families.
- Reports changes in patient condition to Registered Nurse.
- Assists patient care staff by performing the following procedures: wound care, splinting, and EKG’s.
- Provides patient care that may relate to rehabilitation to carry out multidisciplinary care plan for each patient.
- Provides unit desk clerk functions when needed.
- Obtains and maintains the integrity of specimens in accordance with policy and procedure, according to physician order.
- Uses two patient identifiers with proper labeling.
- Blood glucose monitoring.
- Urine and stoolSputumiStat testing Assist with transporting patients into and out of the department to other areas of the hospital for tests.
- Will transport medications to and from pharmacy and within the unit along with transporting blood products to and from Blood Bank.
- Assists patients with daily activities including undressing and dressing as well as lifting and positioning them to complete certain procedures.
- Staff have access to non-controlled medications storage and supply areas and can transport non-controlled medications as necessary to meet the needs of the clinic and unit.
- Coordinate relations between care providers, patients, and visitors.
- Promotes a caring and healing environment for patient-centered care.

Summary
Job Description:
The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) is responsible for providing advanced practice care to patients with heart failure and other complex cardiovascular conditions. This includes conducting comprehensive patient evaluations, developing and managing treatment plans, ordering and interpreting diagnostic testing, prescribing medications, and providing ongoing disease management. Care is delivered in a Hospital Outpatient Department (HOPD). The APRN exercises clinical autonomy in medical decision-making within the scope of the Kentucky Board of Medical Licensure (KBML) collaborative agreement and organizational policies. He or she is a proficient user of all information systems involved in patient care, provides exceptional customer service to patients and colleagues, and maintains the highest standards of professionalism.
The individual may perform other duties, both major and minor, which are not listed below, and responsibilities may evolve over time based on the needs of the practice.
You will provide direct patient care to individuals with acute and chronic heart failure, cardiomyopathies, and other advanced cardiovascular conditions. Responsibilities include evaluating patient symptoms, performing comprehensive physical examinations, ordering and interpreting diagnostic studies, optimizing guideline-directed medical therapy (GDMT), monitoring response to treatment, and developing individualized care plans. You will collaborate closely with heart failure cardiologists, electrophysiologists, cardiothoracic surgeons, primary care providers, and other multidisciplinary team members to coordinate comprehensive patient care across the continuum. This role also includes patient education, medication management, coordination of outpatient and inpatient transitions of care, and helping reduce heart failure readmissions through proactive disease management. Participation in outreach, patient education initiatives, and occasional inpatient or weekend coverage may be required.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Facilitate new patient consultations and follow-up visits for patients with heart failure and advanced cardiovascular disease.
- Perform comprehensive history and physical examinations.
- Order, review, and interpret laboratory studies, imaging, electrocardiograms, echocardiograms, and other diagnostic testing as appropriate.
- Initiate, titrate, and optimize guideline-directed medical therapy (GDMT) for heart failure in accordance with current evidence-based guidelines.
- Monitor patients for disease progression, medication effectiveness, and adverse effects.
- Coordinate care with cardiologists, primary care providers, electrophysiology, cardiac surgery, pharmacy, home health, and other specialists.
- Educate patients and families regarding heart failure diagnosis, medications, diet, sodium and fluid restrictions, weight monitoring, symptom recognition, and self-management strategies.
- Coordinate transitions of care following hospitalization to reduce readmissions and improve patient outcomes.
- Refer patients for advanced heart failure therapies, including mechanical circulatory support, structural heart evaluation, or heart transplant evaluation when appropriate.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives focused on heart failure outcomes and patient education.
- Assist with inpatient consultation and weekend coverage as needed.

CORE FUNCTIONS
1. Processes medication orders and evaluates their appropriateness and completeness with respect to patient data including age, height, weight, diagnosis, laboratory values, and other pertinent patient information.

4. Drives their professional development through the utilization of BPS educational resources to achieve competence in the current and future BH acute pharmacy core clinical practices and activities. Additionally, assist with training and onboarding of new staff as applicable.
5. Prepares and dispenses medications, including sterile or non-sterile compounded medications, in an accurate and timely manner in compliance with company policies and procedures and established regulatory requirements. Coordinates medication preparation and distribution and ensures accuracy prior to dispensing medications.
6. Oversees the day-to-day operations of the pharmacy, which may include management of technology, inventory management, and accurate record keeping. Supervises and directs the work of pharmacy technicians, interns, and students.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Requires unrestricted Pharmacist licensure in the state of practice and a degree in Pharmacy from an accredited College of Pharmacy.
Incumbents in Arizona are also required to provide the AZ Board of Pharmacy Wallet Card at time of hire.
If not licensed in the state of practice, must have completed the Board of Pharmacy application process within 30 days of job offer. Must be licensed within 90 days of hire unless the delay is due to the State Board of Pharmacy.
Banner Registry and Travel positions require a current and unrestricted Pharmacist license (not intern) at the time of hire and a minimum of one year experience in an acute care hospital setting. Experience must include working in an acute care setting within the past 12 months as a pharmacist in the specialty area.

About the Department
Infusion pharmacy is a specialized area within a healthcare facility where medications are prepared, dispensed, and administered through infusion (e.g., intravenous, subcutaneous, Intrathecal, etc.). The pharmacy focuses on providing complex, often high-risk treatments for patients requiring intravenous medications, such as chemotherapy, antibiotics, iron or immunotherapy drugs.
Position Purpose
A Clinical Pharmacist Pharmacists in this setting ensure the safe and accurate preparation of infusions, monitor for potential drug interactions or adverse reactions, and collaborate with healthcare teams to optimize patient care. This service is essential for managing patients with serious conditions that cannot be treated with oral medications alone.

Education:
- Required Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy. Doctor of Pharmacy degree or equivalent clinical degree in pharmacy practice is preferred.
Experience:
- Previous related hospital experience or hospital residency strongly preferred.
Licensure / Certification:

Educates physicians, employees and other allied disciplines about the goals and rationale of the institution's quality of care and cost containment programs related to medication usage and to pharmacotherapy and pharmaceutical care.
Directs, monitors and verifies the compounding of injectable medications including epidural infusions, irrigation, small and large volume parenterals, hyper alimentation and cytotoxic agents performed by pharmacy technicians as necessary based on hospital practices.
Compounds and dispenses medications and injectable medications recognizing that compounding and/or dispensing errors may result in significant patient morbidity and mortality. Competency must be demonstrated before compounding or checking compounded products. Adheres to USP 797 / USP 800 Guidelines.

POSITION PURPOSE
Provides and directs safe, effective, and culturally competent care for patients with acute medical and surgical conditions. May perform a wide variety of advanced patient care duties under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and maintains the patient care and unit environment consistent with the policies, procedures, and practices. Meets the qualifications to provide care for patients in the specific age range on their assigned clinical area.

- Provides for or assists patients with activities of daily living and fulfills designated and delegated responsibilities for ongoing continuum of care. Includes patient hygiene and changing linens.
- Provides one to one patient safety watch as assigned following established policies and procedures.
- Accurately processes specimens and provides timely transport of the specimen to the laboratory.
- Performs point of care patient testing and point of care instrument maintenance and quality control.
- Assists in problem solving, trouble shooting and taking corrective measures in care and maintenance of equipment and supplies.
- Serves as a preceptor and mentor for new staff and students in a positive manner.
- Performs clerical duties for admissions, transfers, discharges, and deaths according to standards and facilitates patient throughput activities. Transcribes and processes orders according to unit standard.
- Releases and confirms ordered tests to appropriate departments.
- Coordinate's transportation of patients to multiple tests.
- Participates in obtaining and communicating electronic information as pertinent to the nursing unit. Schedules tests, faxes consult, etc.
- Assists in ordering supplies. Stationery items as well as floor stock, patient needs, individual nursing supplies.
- Communicates with food services to ensure appropriate patient diets.
- Operates, problem solves, and takes corrective measures for clerical equipment. To include scheduling maintenance of computers, fax machines, phones, etc.
- Staff have access to non-controlled medications storage and supply areas and can transport non-controlled medications as necessary to meet the needs of the clinic or unit.
- Assists with transporting non-controlled medications to and from Pharmacy and within the unit as needed.
- Assists with transporting blood products to and from Blood Bank as needed.
- Discharge follow up phone calls / coordinating virtual discharge appointment team.
- Support / Assist staff with 5 min Drills and/or Quality Rounds - participate in regulatory readiness as needed.

Position Details:
BP5 Advanced Acute Care Medical Trauma Unit
Schedule: Three 12-hour night shifts (7:00pm - 7:30am) including every other weekend and holiday.
Required Orientation: At the start of employment, a consecutive two-week classroom orientation is required with a schedule of Monday - Friday, 7:00am - 3:30pm.
No experience needed. Comprehensive on the job training provided.
