SUMMARY:
Reports to the Ambulatory Clinical Manager and/or Practice Manager, or other assigned Supervisory personnel and under general supervision of the attending License Independent Practitioner, and in accordance with established policies and procedures, screens, collects vitals from patients in an Ambulatory setting. All essential functions performed in this position reflect the age-specific needs of the geriatric, adult, adolescent, and pediatric patient. Fosters patient and family centered care and nursing services in accordance with the Brown University Health’s mission, vision, values, with consideration of the life span, including all developmental stages as well as cultural patterns.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Works effectively and respectfully at his/her highest capabilities and training.
- Follows the practice, clinic or office workflow protocols to maximize quality and efficiency.
- Performs pre-visit planning by reviewing and updating the patient record prior to the appointment with recent test results, consults, correspondence, etc. and determines needed services based on practice protocols. Communicates point of care reminders to providers via the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Prepares patients for examination and treatment in accordance to their clinic specific workflow protocol, by escorting from the waiting area to the exam room. Takes vital signs, weighs patients and records in patient chart. Enters in patient chief complaint, medication reconciliation, histories and other services as outlined in workflow protocol. Notes all patient complaints in EMR. Record the patient pain score. Completes all questionnaires in the patient’s chart.
- Ensures effectively patient flow throughout the practice, clinic and office.
- Reviews Health Maintenance and Chronic Illness services and performs/orders according to protocols and standing orders.
- Performs testing procedures such as blood pressure, EKG, pulse oximetry, Hgb A1-C, glucose, urinalysis, urine hcg, rapid strep test, and other point of care tests.
- Records allergy information medications, medical, surgical, and family histories in the patient chart. Initiates pharmacy benefits verification
- Assists physician with physical examinations. Performs all procedures using aseptic techniques, following standard procedures.
- Assists provider with all physical examinations. Performs all procedures using aseptic techniques, following standard procedures.
- Administers vaccines and places PPDs as per practice/clinic protocol.
- Completes appropriate follow-up up work after visit including, but not limited to, ensuring all blood and specimens are properly labeled, recorded and sent to lab.
- Follows up to ensure all lab results are entered in the medical record. Tracks orders and results. Contacts patients for outreach and reminders for labs/orders. Updates EMR with status. Reports all abnormal lab results to physician or nurse immediately.
- Follows up on referrals for specialty care and/or other services. Tracks consult reports and ensures EMR is updated accordingly. Contacts patients for outreach and/or reminders for referrals.
- Checks for prescription refills pending.
- Ensures examination room is cleaned between each patient and set-up appropriately for next appointment.
- Thoroughly explains programs, procedures and correct preparation for various tests and exams. Provides education to patients regarding the importance of coordination of care and the prudent use of emergency rooms when seeking care. Documents identified barriers.
- Schedules tests and follow-up appointments. Pre-registers patient for next visit. Verifies patient demographic and insurance information. Obtains prior authorizations as needed.
- Monitors and orders supplies and keeps room stocked. Cleans medical equipment. Reports broken or missing equipment to manager immediately. Ensures exam rooms are prepared for each patient. Checks expiration dates on medications and supplies, removes and reports expired medication to Practice or Clinic Management.
- Assists with administrative office duties. Mails reminders and other letters to patients.
- Manages time effectively. Fills slow periods with activities to prepare for future needs. Minimizes non-productive time.
- Maintains quality assurance, safety, environmental, and infection control in accordance with established hospital department policies, procedures, and objectives.
- Protects and preserves the patient’s right to privacy and confidentiality.
- Maintains a position attitude and actively engages in the team approach of caring for patients.
- Supports the goals and concepts of the patient centered medical home by demonstrating flexibility and willingness to change.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
BASIC KNOWLEDGE:
- High School graduate or equivalency – able to read, write and speak English.
- Graduate of formal Medical Assistant training program (9 months or longer) or minimum of 3 years Medical Assistant experience in a comparable ambulatory setting required, within the last 5 years.
- Basic Life Support Certification through American Heart Association
- Ability to understand and apply policies, procedures and protocols.
- Ability to use a personal computer and scanner.
- Ability to use EMR and other software applications.
- Ability to interact with patients, providers, supervisors and peers in a professional manner.
- Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
- Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span, with consideration of aging processes, human development stages, and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.
EXPERIENCE:
Three years of experience within the last 5 years as Medical Assistant in an ambulatory setting or recent Graduate of formal Medical Assistant training program (9 months or longer) within the past 2 or 3 years. Prefer experience with electronic medical record and appointment scheduling software.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Healthcare environment such as acute care hospitals, physicians’ offices and ancillary healthcare enterprises. Works with medical equipment and has direct patient contact. Any potential hazards are minimized by adherence to established safety procedures and precautions including use safety equipment and protective clothing.
Walks and stands intermittently throughout the day. May be exposed to electrical and energy hazards. May lift and position patients, and lift supplies up to 50 pounds

Position Summary:
The Critical Care APP provides comprehensive management of critically ill adult patients within a medical ICU with multiple service lines including thoracic surgery, vascular surgery, general surgery, interventional cardiology, ***. Intensive Care Units at these sites are open units with mandatory intensivist consultation. This role is designed as a performance-based position with accountability for clinical quality, operational efficiency, patient outcomes, interdisciplinary collaboration, and adherence to evidence-based critical care practices.
Success in this role is measured not only by completion of assigned clinical duties, but by demonstrated contributions to patient safety, throughput, quality metrics, procedural competency, and team effectiveness.
Primary Responsibilities:
Clinical Care
- Manage critically ill patients in collaboration with intensivists.
- Perform comprehensive assessments, diagnostic evaluations, and treatment planning.
- Respond to acute clinical deterioration and critical care emergencies.
- Perform credentialed procedures including arterial line placement, central venous catheter insertion, temporary dialysis catheter insertion, intubation assistance, and thoracentesis.
- Document care accurately and complete billing documentation within established timelines.
- Work directly with eICU and on-call physician team during evening shifts
Operational & Quality Performance
- Support efficient ICU patient flow and timely completion of admissions, transfers, and discharges.
- Participate in multidisciplinary rounds and coordinate care across nursing, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, and consulting services.
- Contribute to quality initiatives related to sepsis, ventilator management, CLABSI/CAUTI reduction, and evidence-based ICU bundles.

We provide market-competitive compensation packages, inclusive of base pay, incentives, and benefits. The base pay range for full-time employment is $115,315.20 - $312,000.00 annually. Additional compensation may be available for this role, such as shift differentials, on-call pay, shift premiums, extra-shift incentives, or bonus opportunities. Compensation within the range may vary based on qualifications, experience, location, market conditions, and business needs. Note: If an annual salary is posted, it is based on a full-time colleague working 2,080 hours annually.

Oncology Infusion Pharmacist
We are seeking an Oncology Infusion Pharmacist to ensure the safe, accurate, and effective preparation, verification, and dispensing of chemotherapy, immunotherapy, biologic, and supportive care medications for oncology patients. This role collaborates closely with oncologists, advanced practice providers, nurses, and pharmacy technicians to optimize patient outcomes, maintain regulatory compliance, and support evidence-based cancer care in an ambulatory infusion setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Review, verify, and prepare chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy, supportive care, and infusion medications in accordance with oncology protocols, USP standards, and state/federal regulations.
- Evaluate medication orders for appropriate dosing, treatment regimens, organ function, laboratory values, allergies, drug interactions, and protocol compliance.
- Verify chemotherapy calculations based on patient-specific parameters including diagnosis, body surface area (BSA), weight, and laboratory results.
- Supervise and support pharmacy technicians involved in sterile compounding and medication preparation to ensure accuracy and quality.
- Collaborate with oncologists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to resolve medication-related issues and optimize treatment plans.

Qualifications

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead the ancillary and medical device technology portfolio. This position utilizes specialized knowledge, judgment, and nursing skills necessary to assess data and plan, provide and evaluate care appropriate to the physical and developmental age of assigned patients.
CORE FUNCTIONS
1. Assesses patient physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural and discharge planning needs. Reviews patient history and physical with patient/family and assures completion within appropriate timeframe. Reviews available information obtained by other health care team members. Reviews diagnostics and laboratory data and reports abnormal results to the physician(s) and other appropriate caregivers. Completes assessment and reassessments according to patient need and as outlined in policy.
2. Formulates a plan of care, including the discharge plan, utilizing assessment data and patient, family and health team input. Initiates a plan of care based on patient-specific needs, assessment data and the medical plan of care. Goals for patient are realistic, measurable and developed in conjunction with the patient/family. Considers the physical, cultural, psychosocial, spiritual, age specific and educational needs of the patient in the plan of are. Plans care in collaboration with members of the multidisciplinary team. Reviews and revises the plan of care to reflect changing patient needs based on evaluation of the patient’s status.
3. Implements the plan of care through direct patient care, coordination, delegation and supervision of the activities of the health care team. Provides care based on physician orders and the nursing plan of care, in compliance with policies and procedures, standards of care, and regulatory agency requirements. Delegates appropriately, and provides nursing supervision in the provision of care to patients by other licensed nurses and other personnel. Promotes continuity of care by accurately and completely communicating to other caregivers the status of patients for whom care is provided.
4. Evaluates the patient's and family's response to care and teaching, and revises the plan of care as needed. Evaluates patient progress towards goals and expected outcomes in collaboration with other health care team members. Evaluates patient's response and the effectiveness of patient teaching.
5. Documents assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation in the patient record. Documentation is legible, timely and in accordance with policy. Documentation reflects objective/subjective data, nursing interventions and patient's response to treatment. Notes physician orders accurately and in a timely manner.
6. Provides care based on the best evidence available and may participate in research activities within clinical practice. Participates in unit or facility shared leadership. Interacts and participates in the education, role development, and orientation of facility personnel, patients, students, families and visitors. Promotes/supports growth of others through precepting and mentoring when appropriate.
7. Contributes to society through activities that lead to excellent patient outcomes through timely, effective, efficient, equitable, and safe care. Actively participates in the improvement of national nursing quality indicators and outcomes. Such activities may include participating in professional organizations.
8. In some roles, this position may supervise staff and work flow of the department.
9.Interacts with all levels of staff in a variety of departments, physicians, patients, families and external contacts, such as employees of other health care institutions, community providers and agencies, concerning the health care of the patient. Interacts with other health care providers in numerous settings in order to report and ask for or clarify information. Also works with clergy to provide spiritual support. Synthesizes and prioritizes data from multiple sources to provide support for the human response of the patient and family to changes in health status.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Must possess a current, valid RN license in state of practice, temporary/interim RN license in state of practice, or compact RN licensure for current state of practice. BLS certification is required. Additional certification or continuing education may be required based on area of practice.
Relates throughout the interview process the experience, training and education needed to perform the job. Experience in the clinical area for which he or she is applying is desired. Must maintain clinical performance competencies appropriate to the area in which they work as demonstrated through annual validations. Banner Registry and Travel acute care positions require a minimum of one year experience in an acute care hospital setting. Experience must include working in an acute care setting within the past 12 months as a Registered Nurse in the specialty area. Banner Registry and Travel physician practice positions require a minimum of one year experience as a Registered Nurse in a physician practice or an acute care setting.
In a Home Health setting, team members must be able to operate personal vehicle and possess a valid driver's license. Auto insurance coverage is also required to be active and maintained.

Decontamination of Instruments and Equipment

4)Assists with cleaning of storage areas and work stations to maintain a contaminant-free environment

Exchange and Delivery of Code Blue case carts
3)Demonstrates independent function in processing crash carts to guarantee a complete cart with equipment that is operational at all times. Cleans cart, removing all soil. Examines the existing inventory, removing non-standard items and checking the packaging integrity if sterile items to ensure that sterility has not been compromised. Checks operation of the flashlight, laryngoscope handle and blades, wall suction each time the cart is processed, along with bulbs and back-up batteries. Competency is demonstrated through observation by Sterile Processing Supervisor, Lead Tech/Educator, and/or Preceptor.
1)Follows established procedures for exchange of crash carts. Works with the units and pharmacy to ensure a timely exchange.
2)Correctly assembles the intubation roll after use and readies it for exchange.
Participates in the Department related to quality improvement.

- Clinical duties which include performing 12 Lead EKGs and other non-invasive cardiovascular testing
- 1)Ensure that accurate results from 12 lead computerized electrocardiograms, single channel electrocardiograms and signal average electrocardiograms are provided for cardiologists’ interpretation. a) Administer 12 lead-computerized electrocardiograms to uncovered areas as needed. b) Identify and report severe electrocardiographic abnormalities. c) Promotes patient safety by reporting of issues through established channels and participating as requested in safety initiatives
- 2)Perform technical patient preparation on inpatients and outpatients for 24-hour Holter monitoring and event monitors when needed a) Provides patients with adequate instructions on the use of arrhythmia monitors to ensure optimal results.

- 1)Responsible for maintaining accurate and up to date patient files and department logs.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Ability to lift and or move patients. Ability to work under Stressful conditions and in difficult situations. Ability to stoop, bend and stand for extended periods of time. May be exposed to hazardous materials and life threatening diseases. This position will need to recognize the needs and behaviors of age groups of patients treated (i.e. understanding child growth and development, normal Patterns of adolescent behavior and look for signs of normal aging). Must be able to rotate to other shifts if needed. Prior experience with various age groups is preferred.
- If position has direct patient care or direct patient contact the following lifting requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement effective 06/01/2015. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. - Makes an initial assessment of new admissions within 30 minutes of the patient’s arrival to the unit.
- Completes all areas of the admission assessment database within 24 hours of admission.
