Full Time/First Shift
The Patient Care Technician will be responsible for the examination and treatment of activities under the direct supervision of the physician.
Duties include but not limited to the following: obtaining patient medical history information, expediting patient flow, rooming patients, stocking clinic with supplies, navigating electronic health record system (EPIC), scheduling and following-up with appointments and checking for prior authorizations and scheduling tests, procedures and consultations.
The PCT will communicate with pharmacies, insurance companies, patients and physicians in a respectful manner and will uphold Baptist’s mission and core values that drive service excellence.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manages the coordination and flow of patients throughout the patients visit to create an exceptional patient experience.
- Proactively check the provider’s schedule and review information within the patient record to ensure that all required information is available prior to their visit.
- Proactively obtains any missing information from the patient to ensure that medical records are accurate and up to date, which helps to ensure better care is being provided.
- Upon arrival, captures patient’s vital signs, past medical, social and family history, medication usage and preferred pharmacy information.
- Ensures compliance with all state and federal regulatory requirements including HIPAA/OSHA compliance.
Minimum Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Basic computer skills, specifically with navigating within databases containing highly confidential information.
- Basic Life Support and other advanced training as appropriate.

SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Manager of Hospital Supervisors and CNO is responsible for supervision, staffing, and scheduling of all Nursing and Behavioral Health Staff during their shift. Serves as first-line administrator in consultation with the Nursing Administrator on Call and D.O.C. as needed. Provides clinical support for decision making as well as direct patient care. Ensures that policies and procedures are observed.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Is accountable for the creation and support of a workplace culture of safety, including team approaches to patient safety, an atmosphere which promotes reporting of safety incidents, and which places focus on staffing, communication, and prevention of adverse outcomes.
- Accountable to support the Hospital-wide patient safety program in all areas.
- Rounds on all units throughout the shift; obtaining report from all charge RN’s at the start and end of the shift.
- Serves as a member of the code team, leading as necessary.
- Ensures adequate staff response and facilitating debriefing process.
- Provides clinical support and guidance as needed.
- Acts as immediate Incident Commander when situation warrants.
- Identifies and manages risk; checks in with Charge RN on a regular basis throughout the shift.
- Ensures compliance with Brown University Health/Bradley policies.
- Ensures adequate Nursing/Milieu staffing.
- Serves as first line nursing administrator during evening, night, weekends and holiday shifts.
- Coordinates admissions including registration of patients when Patient Registration Department is closed.
- Off hours liaison for Pharmacy, Laboratory and Medical Supply services.
- Regularly reads email and responds to pager alerts and requests in a timely manner.
- Observes and enforces all general hospital policies, rules and regulations.
- Compliance with NetLearning assignments and certifications without lapse, independent of reminders.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Licensure as Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island by the Rhode Island Board of Nursing or licensure as a Registered Nurse in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact agreement of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing.
BASIC KNOWLEDGE:
- Graduate of a school of nursing with current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island.
- Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients with consideration of aging processes, human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.
- Maintain current SafetyCare and AHA BLS certification and Lead RN training.
EXPERIENCE:
- Three to five years of recent acute psychiatric nursing experience.
- Two years of hospital supervisory experience preferred.

- All Nursing staff

Atrium Health West Blvd Family Medicine. We are a community-based family medicine clinic in West Charlotte located in the same parking lot as the Stratford YMCA minutes from Charlotte Douglas International Airport. We see all age groups and pride ourselves on our embedded resources such as social work, pharmacy, and a community health worker to serve the entire patient. We see newborn and well child visits, sick visits and chronic comorbidity management. Our goal is to provide top comprehensive care to prevent hospitalization and further progression of disease.
We’re Looking For:
- Completion of an accredited or approved program in nursing
- Registered Nurse license issued by the state in which the teammate practices
- Prior ambulatory family medicine or inpatient acute care experience preferred0

Job Duties:
Responsible and accountable for performing a wide range of clerical duties and direct patient care activities, depending on the need of the unit. The performance of these tasks in an efficient and timely manner is essential to enhance the care team's ability to provide quality care. - Provides patient care as directed, within the nursing assistant scope of practice, in meeting the multidisciplinary care plan established for each patient.

- Obtains and maintains the integrity of specimens in accordance with policy and procedure, according to physician order.

- Provides one to one patient safety watch as assigned following established policies and procedures.
- Accurately processes specimens and provides timely transport of the specimen to the laboratory.
- Performs point of care patient testing and point of care instrument maintenance and quality control.
- Assists in problem solving, trouble shooting and taking corrective measures in care and maintenance of equipment and supplies.
- Serves as a preceptor and mentor for new staff and students in a positive manner.
- Performs clerical duties for admissions, transfers, discharges, and deaths according to standards and facilitates patient throughput activities. Transcribes and processes orders according to unit standard.
- Releases and confirms ordered tests to appropriate departments.
- Coordinate's transportation of patients to multiple tests.

- Assists in ordering supplies. Stationery items as well as floor stock, patient needs, individual nursing supplies.
- Communicates with food services to ensure appropriate patient diets.
- Operates, problem solves, and takes corrective measures for clerical equipment. To include scheduling maintenance of computers, fax machines, phones, etc.
- Staff have access to non-controlled medications storage and supply areas and can transport non-controlled medications as necessary to meet the needs of the clinic or unit.
- Assists with transporting non-controlled medications to and from Pharmacy and within the unit as needed.
- Assists with transporting blood products to and from Blood Bank as needed.

Job Duties:
Primary duties include:
- Being the primary facilitator of ADLs: hygiene, toileting, mobility, meals
- Collecting vital signs & daily weights
- Conducting Point of Care testing
- Turning & repositioning patients

- Removal of Foley Catheter and Peripheral IV
- Nasogastric tube removal and performing nasal swabs
- Checking code carts and oxygen storage cabinets
May perform a wide variety of advanced patient care duties under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and maintains the patient care and unit environment consistent with the policies, procedures, and practices. Meets the qualifications to provide care for patients in the specific age range on their assigned clinical area.
- Provides enhanced patient care under the direction of the licensed nurse, which may include but is not limited to advanced dressing care, suctioning, removal of Foley Catheter and peripheral IV.
- May perform venipunctures and skin punctures to obtain blood specimens according to Clinical Laboratory Standards Institute guidelines.
- May perform daily, hands-on aspects of the storage, preparation and delivery of breast milk, infant and pediatric formulas.
- Documents in the appropriate sections to create a complete and accurate medical record.
- Identifies, observes, and documents the physical needs of the patient according to established standards. Reports any changes in patient condition to licensed personnel in a timely manner.
- Obtains and maintains the integrity of specimens in accordance with policy and procedure, according to physician order.
- Provides for or assists patients with activities of daily living and fulfills designated and delegated responsibilities for ongoing continuum of care. Includes patient hygiene and changing linens.
- Provides one to one patient safety watch as assigned following established policies and procedures.
- Accurately processes specimens and provides timely transport of the specimen to the laboratory.
- Performs point of care patient testing and point of care instrument maintenance and quality control.
- Assists in problem solving, trouble shooting and taking corrective measures in care and maintenance of equipment and supplies.
- Serves as a preceptor and mentor for new staff and students in a positive manner.
- Performs clerical duties for admissions, transfers, discharges, and deaths according to standards and facilitates patient throughput activities. Transcribes and processes orders according to unit standard.

- Operates, problem solves, and takes corrective measures for clerical equipment. To include scheduling maintenance of computers, fax machines, phones, etc.
- Staff have access to non-controlled medications storage and supply areas and can transport non-controlled medications as necessary to meet the needs of the clinic or unit.
- Assists with transporting non-controlled medications to and from Pharmacy and within the unit as needed.
- Assists with transporting blood products to and from Blood Bank as needed.
- Discharge follow up phone calls / coordinating virtual discharge appointment team.
- Support / Assist staff with 5 min Drills and/or Quality Rounds - participate in regulatory readiness as needed.

- Availability to work night shifts within the 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM timeframe
- 4, 8, or 12-hour shifts may be available based on unit needs
- Minimum commitment of 24 hours per 4-week scheduling period, including throughout upcoming school semesters following winter break
Program Dates & Orientation Requirements
Applicants must be available to attend a mandatory orientation at the start of employment. The program includes a consecutive two-week classroom orientation held Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM. Orientation is typically scheduled during students' winter break and will take place in December.

Essential Functions:
- Responsible for the PACE passengers during transport, providing care in a manner which ensures participant satisfaction
- Follow assigned schedule, make adjustments to meet unanticipated changes, while considering the needs of the participant and requirements of the PACE center, as well as communicating these changes to the department leader
- Operate equipment safely and in compliance with the vehicle licensing regulations
- Transport participants to and from medical/specialist appointments and activity outings as requested by the interdisciplinary team via the plan of care
- Transport meals, durable medical equipment, pharmacy, and any other items as deemed necessary for the participants
- Provide physical assistance to each participant when needed as he or she boards and debarks from the programs vehicles

SUMMARY:
Reporting to the department Chair/Chief and/or Departmental Research Manager, plans, develops, monitors and coordinates the departmental research administrative activities for assigned department/programs at Rhode Island Hospital.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Serves as point person and facilitates smooth coordination, communication, and problem resolution relative to research administrative matters between department, research administration, faculty, divisional leaders, and other hospital and university departments. Will review matters relating to clinical and basic research, pre- and post-award.
Leads and coordinates special research-related projects, such as major grant proposals, investigator incentive programs, departmental and divisional reports and statistics. Coordinates transfers of research funding for the purpose of proper reimbursement and allocation of physician salaries on research accounts.
Assists in managing the department post-award aspect of projects, which requires sensitivity to the needs of individual investigators, knowledge of sponsor, institutional and departmental requirements, ability to interpret those requirements and competency in addressing the in-house systems (research administration, accounts payable, accounts receivable, finance, purchasing, human resources, payroll and pharmacy). Determines which principal investigators (PI) or staff need closer monitoring to prevent activity which could affect the institution negatively, such as monetary loss due to audit disallowance, loss of funding or liability incurred due to research conducted without necessary approvals. May intervene to point out available resources or alternative procedures, as appropriate.
Communicates institutional and funding agencies ' regulations and policies on grants and contracts. Familiarizes administrative staff regarding Rhode Island Hospital institutional research policies and procedures. Responsible for coordinating and providing information to the faculty about funding opportunities, requirements and deadlines.
Reviews project applications in consideration of project budget, application instructions, sponsor rules and unique requirements, and provisions for recovery of indirect costs. Recommends and negotiates changes to appropriate applications with principal investigators or department administration and/or involved individuals at the other institutions which do not compromise the institution, department or investigators. Verifies all necessary approvals, including regulatory committees, to ensure that guidelines are met. Completed applications are forwarded to research administrator for approval prior to submission to the Office of Research Administration.
As appropriate, may assist Chair/Chief with research administrative activities of department, including coordinating and overseeing human resource and payroll issues. Interacts with research administration and human resource department regarding new positions, recruiting, job changes, salary reviews and other related policies and procedures to assist PI 's.
Coordinates research efforts in the recruitment of new faculty and staff. This may include advising new faculty on transfer procedures, including relocation of equipment and financial arrangements. Is responsible for coordination of facility management staff, new recruits and support departments in the establishment and construction of space for the recruitment program.
Maintains confidential and comprehensive records of salary expenses and other disbursements, recommending adjustments where necessary. Reviews and monitors policy and procedure adherence for purchase orders, travel requests, petty cash vouchers, requisitions for payment including all equipment, maintenance agreements, contracts and subscriptions, assisting where necessary.
Monitors time sheets and employee change forms for hourly and salaried research oriented personnel within department. Assures that funds are available and notifies PI 's and Chair/Chief when adjustments become necessary. Coordinates with the Chair/Chief/Research Manager and research administration on problem issues as appropriate.
Maintains communications with review committees to learn of any new requirements and to help ensure compliance with current regulations.
Prepares/provides reports and documents as requested by the managers; attends related meetings on regular basis.
Maintains strong daily association with research administration, including collaboration on final reports and some accounting adjustments. This also includes resolution of problem accounts with principal investigators, sponsors, or administrators. Reviews and determines direct cost transfers are allocated to appropriate account and are allowable. Prepares necessary journal vouchers for submission to research administration.
Ensures the accuracy of research time and effort reporting system. Works with research investigators to obtain information for submission to research administration on a monthly basis.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EXPERIENCE:
At least three to five years experience in a research academic environment to include federal and non-federal funding, grant application processes, and regulations set by local, federal, hospital, and independent agencies.
Excellent verbal and written skills are essential. The ability to interact with persons from diverse backgrounds such as MD 's, PhD 's, research and administrative staff.
Thorough knowledge of microcomputers, peripheral equipment and networks. Thorough knowledge of software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and Windows. Ability to learn specific research access programs.

- Basic Life Support and other advanced training as appropriate to be received within 90 days, plus one of the following.
- Prior working experience as a C.N.A, EMT, Phlebotomist, Athletic Trainer or other healthcare discipline that provides direct patient care.
- Or a Certified MA from the National Health Career Association (NHA).
- Or completed any MA education program but has not received certification as of yet.
- Upon hire these disciplines will be assessed for clinical competency and be required to successfully complete an MA orientation | externship as well as complete any additional training as required by the Provider.

SUMMARY:
Reports to the Ambulatory Clinical Manager and/or Practice Manager, or other assigned Supervisory personnel and under general supervision of the attending License Independent Practitioner, and in accordance with established policies and procedures, screens, collects vitals from patients in an Ambulatory setting. All essential functions performed in this position reflect the age-specific needs of the geriatric, adult, adolescent, and pediatric patient. Fosters patient and family centered care and nursing services in accordance with the Brown University Health’s mission, vision, values, with consideration of the life span, including all developmental stages as well as cultural patterns.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Works effectively and respectfully at his/her highest capabilities and training.
- Follows the practice, clinic or office workflow protocols to maximize quality and efficiency.
- Performs pre-visit planning by reviewing and updating the patient record prior to the appointment with recent test results, consults, correspondence, etc. and determines needed services based on practice protocols. Communicates point of care reminders to providers via the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Prepares patients for examination and treatment in accordance to their clinic specific workflow protocol, by escorting from the waiting area to the exam room. Takes vital signs, weighs patients and records in patient chart. Enters in patient chief complaint, medication reconciliation, histories and other services as outlined in workflow protocol. Notes all patient complaints in EMR. Record the patient pain score. Completes all questionnaires in the patient’s chart.
- Ensures effectively patient flow throughout the practice, clinic and office.
- Reviews Health Maintenance and Chronic Illness services and performs/orders according to protocols and standing orders.
- Performs testing procedures such as blood pressure, EKG, pulse oximetry, Hgb A1-C, glucose, urinalysis, urine hcg, rapid strep test, and other point of care tests.
- Records allergy information medications, medical, surgical, and family histories in the patient chart. Initiates pharmacy benefits verification
- Assists physician with physical examinations. Performs all procedures using aseptic techniques, following standard procedures.

- Administers vaccines and places PPDs as per practice/clinic protocol.
- Completes appropriate follow-up up work after visit including, but not limited to, ensuring all blood and specimens are properly labeled, recorded and sent to lab.
- Follows up to ensure all lab results are entered in the medical record. Tracks orders and results. Contacts patients for outreach and reminders for labs/orders. Updates EMR with status. Reports all abnormal lab results to physician or nurse immediately.
- Follows up on referrals for specialty care and/or other services. Tracks consult reports and ensures EMR is updated accordingly. Contacts patients for outreach and/or reminders for referrals.
- Checks for prescription refills pending.
- Ensures examination room is cleaned between each patient and set-up appropriately for next appointment.
- Thoroughly explains programs, procedures and correct preparation for various tests and exams. Provides education to patients regarding the importance of coordination of care and the prudent use of emergency rooms when seeking care. Documents identified barriers.
- Schedules tests and follow-up appointments. Pre-registers patient for next visit. Verifies patient demographic and insurance information. Obtains prior authorizations as needed.
- Monitors and orders supplies and keeps room stocked. Cleans medical equipment. Reports broken or missing equipment to manager immediately. Ensures exam rooms are prepared for each patient. Checks expiration dates on medications and supplies, removes and reports expired medication to Practice or Clinic Management.
- Assists with administrative office duties. Mails reminders and other letters to patients.
- Manages time effectively. Fills slow periods with activities to prepare for future needs. Minimizes non-productive time.
- Maintains quality assurance, safety, environmental, and infection control in accordance with established hospital department policies, procedures, and objectives.
- Protects and preserves the patient’s right to privacy and confidentiality.
- Maintains a position attitude and actively engages in the team approach of caring for patients.
- Supports the goals and concepts of the patient centered medical home by demonstrating flexibility and willingness to change.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
BASIC KNOWLEDGE:
- High School graduate or equivalency – able to read, write and speak English.
- Graduate of formal Medical Assistant training program (9 months or longer) or minimum of 3 years Medical Assistant experience in a comparable ambulatory setting required, within the last 5 years.
- Basic Life Support Certification through American Heart Association
- Ability to understand and apply policies, procedures and protocols.
- Ability to use a personal computer and scanner.
- Ability to use EMR and other software applications.
- Ability to interact with patients, providers, supervisors and peers in a professional manner.
- Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
- Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span, with consideration of aging processes, human development stages, and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.
EXPERIENCE:
Three years of experience within the last 5 years as Medical Assistant in an ambulatory setting or recent Graduate of formal Medical Assistant training program (9 months or longer) within the past 2 or 3 years. Prefer experience with electronic medical record and appointment scheduling software.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Healthcare environment such as acute care hospitals, physicians’ offices and ancillary healthcare enterprises. Works with medical equipment and has direct patient contact. Any potential hazards are minimized by adherence to established safety procedures and precautions including use safety equipment and protective clothing.
Walks and stands intermittently throughout the day. May be exposed to electrical and energy hazards. May lift and position patients, and lift supplies up to 50 pounds
