Our Pharmacy Interns support pharmacists in delivering safe, accurate, and timely medication therapy to patients. Interns assist with medication preparation, dispensing, sterile and nonsterile compounding, inventory management, and the use of automated pharmacy technology. As interns progress in their schooling and gain more experience, they may assume more clinical pharmacy responsibilities under the supervision of a pharmacist, including antibiotic dosing and monitoring, anticoagulation dosing and monitoring, renal dose adjustments, answering drug related questions, and completing medication histories.
Position Purpose:
The Pharmacy Intern assists the pharmacist in assuring timely and accurate provision of medications to patients. Routine intern functions are performed under the direct supervision of a pharmacist. These functions may include unit dose dispensing, intravenous admixing, inventory control, record keeping and billing, and the extensive use of equipment and automated technology. Based on ability, experience, and performance, the Pharmacy Intern may perform increasingly clinical activities of the pharmacy, under direct supervision of a pharmacist.
What we are looking for:
Education: Enrolled and in good standing at an accredited College of Pharmacy program
Licensure / Certification: Current licensure as a Pharmacy Intern with the Ohio State Board of Pharmacy
Experience: Previous hospital pharmacy and/or pharmacy intern experience is preferred
Effective Communication Skills
Ability to follow procedures and accept increasing levels of responsibilities commensurate with knowledge and skill attainment.
What you will do:
Assists the pharmacist in the technical and professional functions required in the preparation, dispensing, record keeping, counseling, and delivery of medications using proper aseptic technique, correct calculations, proper documentation, and appropriate use of clinical resources.
Prepares intravenous admixtures and other sterile products, including chemotherapy by using proper aseptic technique.
Compounds medications by using proper technique and calculations (ie. ointments, creams, oral liquids, enteral tube feeding preparations).
Assists the pharmacist in the filling of orders/prescriptions.
Prepares sterile products; properly labels medications and maintains records of packaging as required by department Policy and Procedures and state and federal law
Assists the pharmacist in providing drug information to patients and other health care professionals, advising on proper methods, usage, and cautions associated with medications.
Prepares and restocks drugs for automated dispensing cabinets.
Performs clinical duties under direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist, including medication reconciliation, adverse drug event reviews, renal dosing, medication utilization reviews, patient rounds with physicians, presentations for education purposes, and other clinical duties as directed by preceptor.
Assists in the management of pharmacy inventory by providing information to pharmacy purchasing, removing expired contaminated or deteriorated stock when detected, helping maintain perpetual inventories, and processing non-formulary requests.

The Certified Pharmacy Tech, will assist the pharmacist in assuring timely and accurate provision of medications to patients. Technician responsibilities are performed under the direct supervision of a pharmacist. These functions may include unit dose dispensing, sterile compounding, non-sterile compounding, medication packaging, inventory control, record keeping and billing, and use of equipment and automated technology.
**Mount Carmel also offers an elevated Certified Pharmacy Tech – Sterile Compounding compensation program for all sterile compounding trained technicians, regardless of prior experience. Following completion of our standardized training program, all signed off technicians will be approved for elevated compensation**
What You Will Do:
Establish a working identity with our Pharmacy Team and continue to build upon our culture
Following in depth, role specific training. Team responsibilities include:
Preparation of sterile products (including chemotherapy) using aseptic technique, in compliance with regulatory standards
Preparation of non-sterile products (including hazardous medication), in compliance with regulatory standards
Repackaging of bulk oral medication using our Parata Systems and Medical Packaging Inc robots
Facilitating medication dispensing via Automated Dispensing Cabinets on our patient care units
Assists in the dispensing of orders/prescriptions through our pharmacy inventory system
Assists in inventory control by processing our daily Pharmacy Department order; assuring proper stock rotation, storage and appropriate expiration dating. Escalates medication and non-medication orders to the Purchasing Team
Assists the department with proper billing of patients and other units
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: High school graduation or equivalent
Licensure / Certification: Approved Pharmacy Technician Certification. Active registration as a Certified Tech with Ohio State Board of Pharmacy.
Experience: Previous pharmacy technician experience is preferred
Effective Communication Skills
Aptitude in mathematical manipulations (ratios, proportions, multiplication, division, decimals, and fractions).

The Certified Pharmacy Tech, will assist the pharmacist in assuring timely and accurate provision of medications to patients. Following in depth, role specific training. Team responsibilities include:
Preparation of sterile products (including chemotherapy) using aseptic technique, in compliance with regulatory standards
Preparation of non-sterile products (including hazardous medication), in compliance with regulatory standards
Repackaging of bulk oral medication using our Parata Systems and Medical Packaging Inc robots
Facilitating medication dispensing via Automated Dispensing Cabinets on our patient care units
Assists in the dispensing of orders/prescriptions through our pharmacy inventory system
Assists in inventory control by processing our daily Pharmacy Department order; assuring proper stock rotation, storage and appropriate expiration dating. Escalates medication and non-medication orders to the Purchasing Team

Minimum Qualifications:
Education: High school graduation or equivalent
Licensure / Certification: Approved Pharmacy Technician Certification. Active registration as a Certified Tech with Ohio State Board of Pharmacy.

Oversees pharmaceutical care, including retrieving and evaluating biomedical literature and designing medication therapy regimens
Uses effective patient education techniques to provide counseling to patients and caregivers, including information on medication therapy, adverse effects, compliance, appropriate use, handling, and medication administration
Designs, recommends, monitors, and evaluates patient specific pharmacotherapeutic regimens based on relevant biomedical literature. Implements recommendations effectively and utilizes policies and procedures and documents in the appropriate format.
Reviews and accurately interprets medication orders and prescriptions
Participates in the management of medical emergencies when applicable
Actively supports department medication safety and quality improvement activities, including the reporting of events through appropriate channels

The Advanced Authorization Specialist is responsible for reading and interpreting various complex medical records to obtain authorizations for requested services and treatment plans. Communication with clinic staff, providers, Pharmacists, and insurance companies is essential to ensure completed peer reviews, relay updated medical and specialty drug policies, and appeals. They work closely with the Hospital and Provider Denial Management Teams to review monthly denials and assess opportunities for retro-active authorizations and determine root cause analysis. - Manage Atrium Health preferred drug list (chemotherapy/immunotherapy/supportive drugs) with payors and correlate changes with oncology pharmacy.
- Manage Atrium Health drug formulary changes with authorization updates with payors.
- Review laboratory panels for Bone Marrow Biopsies to authorize Molecular Lab Studies, diagnosis specific.
- Review and address monthly denials for Chemotherapy Drugs, Molecular Labs and surgeries with payors and Atrium Health Denial Management Teams (HBO/PBO).

This position is also responsible for a variety of clerical and administrative support functions and customer service for an assigned patient care area which promote an organized, efficient delivery of care to patients.
CORE FUNCTIONS
1. Performs a variety of tasks and functions associated with the department’s daily operations, including but not limited to, greeting patients, medical staff and the public, answering incoming telephone calls, scheduling appointments, entering orders and providing general information to customers. Participates in the resolution of customer problems or collects necessary data and follows through to appropriate person for problem resolution. Refers complex inquiries to the appropriate department or staff. Provides ongoing clerical and administrative support.
2. Enters patient information into the computer, scans documents into PACS. Maintains a complete patient record with admission, transfer, and discharge information, progress notes, and consent forms. Ensures that all reports and chart forms are scanned or filed into the patient’s record. Ensures that charting forms are labeled and accessible if they are needed. Maintains adequate supplies of frequently used, patient education materials. May be responsible for QC/validations. Assists in facilitating requests for patient medical records.
3. Provides support in the acquisition and distribution of digital patient records. Digitizes, formats, and uploads film-based or digital images into PACS. Maintains accurate filling system as required based on established department protocols and procedures.
4. Fulfills requests for images and reports ensuring availability in system, hard copy (film), and/or CD as required and follows proper protocols for releasing confidential patient information.
5. Receives patient in applicable systems, confirms patient demographics and insurance information and performs insurance verification when required. May be required to calculate and collect copays, deductibles, and self-pay. Totals charges on patient’s super-bill at check-out. Enters pending discharges into the system. Coordinates patient appointments for procedures and treatments that may be required prior to timely discharge. Processes patient discharges. Coordinates transportation to care centers and residential homes as requested by patients or physicians.
6. Prints physician schedules, super-bills, labels and other applicable forms in preparation for next business day. Pulls and files patient charts and prepares new patient charts as needed. Prints and files transcription notes. Reconciles charge tickets to each day's schedule, identifies incomplete tickets, missing charge codes or missing diagnosis and notifies clinical staff. Forwards completed tickets and/or billing package to the business office or billing company.
7. Assists technologists and nurses in pre and post procedure room preparation by obtaining necessary supplies and assisting patients as necessary. Ensures procedure rooms are stocked appropriately. Understand sterile procedure and assists with setting up sterile trays, where applicable. Adheres to radiation safety policies. Escorts patients back to the patient exam rooms, takes vitals and patient history; may assist with patient treatment to include peripheral IV insertion, IV discontinuation and Point of Care Testing (POCT) if required by the assigned facility (completion of Banner’s peripheral IV insertion course and validation of skill must be completed prior to any peripheral IV insertion and discontinuation performed. Completion of Banner’s POCT education and validation of skill must be completed prior to any Point of Care Testing being performed).
8. Maintains adequate levels of office, dietary, and medical supplies and completes requisition forms when supplies need to be ordered. Reconciles supply order upon delivery.
9. This position assists in the operations of the medical imaging department under direct supervision with technologists and nurses in department. Incumbents work in a fast-paced, sometimes stressful environment with a strong focus on customer service. Must navigate a variety of separate computer programs at any given time and handle multiple demands on time. Internal customers: All levels of medical imaging and nursing management and staff, medical staff, and all other members of the interdisciplinary health care team. External Customers: regulatory and health agencies, non-clinic providers and facilities, vendors, patients and family members.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge.
Certification for BLS is required.
Must be able to exercise good judgment, effectively communicate, and use discretion with patients, staff and the general public. Working knowledge of medical terminology and computer literacy is required. The position requires knowledge of commonly used office software and keyboarding skills. Good organizational skills are essential in prioritizing and coordinating various responsibilities simultaneously. Must have the ability to handle ongoing face-to-face contact with patients and staff while functioning in a busy medical office environment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Prior experience as a transporter, EMT and/or nursing assistant preferred. Working knowledge of medical terminology is preferred. Previous experience working with electronic medical records and insurance is preferred. Knowledge of filing and/or retrieval systems preferred.
Additional related education and/or experience preferred.

Essential Functions
- Reviews patients' medication order for allergy interactions, duplication of therapy, appropriateness of drug therapy, and drug- drug interaction.

3. Implements the outcome/goal- based plan of care.
- Assigns and coordinates patient care incorporating patient acuity and the skills, knowledge and abilities of the team members.

- Utilizes Patient Care Policies and Procedure as references to guide nursing practice.

- Prioritizes and implements intervention according to patient assessment.
- Demonstrates competency in computer systems and applications required for role.
- Receives, transcribes and processes and implements physician orders per policy including dating, timing and verifying accuracy.
- Maintains communication with the manager/house supervisor and staffing office regarding admissions, unit needs, acuity numbers and significant events.
- Completes assigned shift duties and assures resolution of discrepancies.
7. Manages telemetry and cardiac monitoring when applicable.
- Demonstrates clinical competency and technical knowledge in cardiac rhythm interpretation and telemetry monitoring.
- Recognizes and responds appropriately to cardiac arrhythmias and other changes in patient condition.
- Must be capable of managing multiple patients requiring continuous cardiac monitoring.
- Provides appropriate interventions for patients experiencing cardiac events or changes in rhythm.
- May be required to assist with data collection and quality improvement initiatives.
- Must be willing to serve as a resource to other hospital services (nursing, pharmacy, laboratory, radiology, respiratory, etc.).
- May be asked to participate in unit-based committees and provide education to nursing staff as requested.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Associate degree in nursing required
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
- Current Illinois RN license.
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
- American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required only if the unit has telemetry monitoring capabilities.
- Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter – Child and/or Dependent Adult Abuse training within three (3) months of hire.
- High language, intermediate to high math, high critical thinking ability.

Atrium Health Mountain Island Emergency Department, a facility of Atrium Health University City, provides 24-hour emergency medical services to the Northwest Charlotte area. This freestanding ED treats patients of all ages, from minor injuries to critical conditions such as heart attacks and strokes, with care delivered by board-certified emergency medicine physicians and the full support of Atrium Health’s Carolinas Medical Center, the region’s only Level I trauma center. The department features six emergency rooms open 24/7, including one dedicated trauma room, a three-bay triage area, and two observation beds, along with on-site imaging services such as CT, ultrasound, fixed and portable X-ray, as well as laboratory and pharmacy support to ensure comprehensive patient care.

The Accreditation Coordinator plays a critical role in maintaining the organization's compliance with healthcare accrediting bodies such as The Joint Commission (TJC) and regulatory agencies such as the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). This position ensures continuous compliance and readiness for surveys by monitoring standards, coordinating accreditation activities, and facilitating internal audits. The coordinator participates in the development and implementation of corrective action plans, collaborates with clinical and administrative teams to address deficiencies, and promotes a culture of quality and safety throughout the hospital. Strong organizational, communication, and analytical skills are essential to drive accreditation excellence and adherence to standards.Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions- Develops and maintains accreditation and regulatory readiness activities to support safety and ongoing regulatory compliance.
- Collects, analyzes and reports data in support of continuous readiness activities.
- Performs in-person patient and departmental tracers and medical record review audits to assist in determining compliance with accreditation and regulatory requirements.
- Disseminates the results of audits and surveillance as needed and as data is available. Dissemination occurs via electronic communication, presentations at organization-wide venues, and directly with hospital leaders.
- Interprets standards in relation to policies and practice.
- Maintains knowledge and serves as a resource for interpretation of accreditation and disease-specific care certification standards as applicable. Provides formal and informal education on regulatory requirements as needed.
- Utilizes quality improvement techniques and tools, leads/assists in the development and implementation of detailed action plans to achieve compliance.
- Serves as a Scribe for all routine, unannounced, and for-cause surveys by the accrediting organizations (such as TJC), CMS, KDHE, or other regulatory agencies.
