Major Responsibilities:
Assists licensed pharmacist in technical duties related to preparation and distribution of medications.
Accurately selects, prepares, and labels medications for patients including hazardous drugs and controlled substances.
Assists with medication distribution tasks.
Screens phone calls and routes as needed using proper telephone and voicemail etiquette.
Assists in daily pharmacy procurement, inventory control, and outdate checking.
Complete documentation required for removing, stocking, and wasting controlled substances, where applicable.
Perform nonsterile compounding following proper USP standards, where applicable.
Perform sterile IV admixture, as defined at the entity level, using proper aseptic technique, where applicable.
Inspects all assigned medication storage areas for adherence to storage policies.
Completes and documents medication admission histories, as applicable at the facility level.
Seeks additional duties when required work is done and accepts other duties as assigned.
May participate in quality improvement initiatives to assure the excellence of departmental services.
May assist in training pharmacy technicians and extenders in orientation to the policies, procedures, and workflows involved in pharmacy operations as applicable at entity level.
Abides by all organization policies and procedures and comply with all legal, regulatory, and accreditation standards.
Supports area leaders regarding goals and work assignments.
Obtaining and recording initial patient demographic and other required information, data entry of required information into the pharmacy system for record keeping, insurance verification and label generation purposes, and cashiering.
Develop competence in third-party billing functions.
Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
May obtain immunization certification and perform immunizations for patients under the supervision of a registered pharmacist, where applicable.
What You Will Need:
High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
Certification through Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (CPhT) or National Healthcareer Association (ExCPT).
North Carolina Board of Pharmacy registration as a pharmacy technician required within 30 days of hire.
Nice to Have (Not Required):
Successful completion of a formal technician training program preferred.
One-year previous pharmacy experience preferred.
Associate degree in a healthcare or business-related field preferred.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

Proven skills in working effectively with multiple departments and matrix organizational structures.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, bend, kneel, climb, twist, crawl and reach above shoulders.
Requires considerable walking, standing, pushing mobile cart of approximately 50 pounds and lifting 35 pounds of material.
Must have functional vision, touch and hearing.
Must be able to speak and be understood by others to communicate effectively.
May be exposed to chemical and hazardous waste as well as blood and body fluids and communicable disease for which appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is utilized to minimize exposure.
Frequent fine motor motion of hands and wrists to perform manipulative skills such as writing, typing, data entry into the computer, and preparation of medications, including use of syringes.
Take necessary precautions to avoid inadvertent needle sticks, minor cuts or bruises. Exposed to various conditions throughout the workday such as walking on hard surfaces, climbing stairs and changes in temperature and humidity.
Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.
Flexibility to travel between pharmacy locations.

- Problem solves technical issues in the specialized area as they arise
- Ensures documents and records are accurate and completed in a timely fashion
- Supports methods of communication and coordination with patients and care team
- Identifies quality improvement opportunities based on specialized skill set to ensure safe, effective, and efficient services and patient care

Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:

Education Required:

Experience Required:
- Typically requires 1-3 years of experience in health care, insurance industry, pharmacy, or medical background

Job Duties
Assists pharmacists and other technicians to maintain an efficient medication distribution system in order to provide safe and efficient patient care.
Accurately prepares sterile admixture products, such as intravenous snap-ons, large volume parenterals, syringes, chemotherapy, & bulk manufactured products using techniques utilizing aseptic techniques and proper pharmaceutical procedures (>400/shift OR 100% of shift dedicated to preparation of sterile products and chemotherapy).
Accurately prepares sterile admixture products using mathematical calculations.
Appropriately operates and maintains specialized pharmacy equipment (IV safety software, barcode software).
Charts all scheduled maintenance designed to ensure sterility according to protocol.
Performs daily, weekly, monthly, and terminal cleaning of the IV room.
Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to: respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style.

Technical Capabilities:
Drug Inventory & Records Management (Novice): Possesses fundamental proficiency working with drug inventory and records management. POSITION SUMMARY
This position will prepare, dispense, and compound medication under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist. Provide prescription support services for patients to ensure safe, appropriate, effective and efficient delivery of medication therapy. Provide excellent customer service skills, high attention to detail, strong problem solving, documentation and computer skills. Work closely with the multidisciplinary healthcare team to support pharmaceutical care activities, complete pharmacy billing activities, record keeping, reporting, inventory management, and arrange appropriate medication delivery.

1.Under the direct supervision of a pharmacist, review and interpret prescriptions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Minimal experience, typically gained through 0-2 years relevant work experience. Ability to attend and successfully complete 160 hours of on the job training required. Job Description:
The Pharmacy Technician demonstrates consistent application of knowledge and skills in assisting the pharmacist in execution of appropriate, safe, efficacious, efficient, and cost-effective pharmaceutical care. The position participates in many procedural aspects of pharmacy practice under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist or technician supervisor and is an integral part of the pharmacy team. This position supports Pharmacy Services in all locations (i.e., acute, community, ambulatory, specialty).
This position will cover the various technician roles within the department including central, decentral, controlled substances, sterile compounding, and operating room role. These shift vary between eight to twelve hours depending on the role that they are covering and the needs of the department. The primary start times for these roles are 6:30am-7:30am or 2:30pm. Holidays are in a rotating four block schedule with 3 shifts per year.
Essential Functions
- Assists with all phases of pharmacy services while under the supervision of a pharmacist as required by state of practice and job duties.
- Answers phones and provides excellent customer service as appropriate to practice site.
- Assists the pharmacist in collecting clinical and other patient information and maintaining appropriate records as required by regulation and policy.
- Utilizes pharmacy technology effectively to prepare medication orders for dispensing, performs calculations as necessary, and compounds medications for accurate compounding as appropriate to practice site, in accordance with state law, policies, procedures, and protocols.
- Attains appropriate supervision and accuracy checks by the pharmacist(s) and clearly understands when a pharmacist must verify tasks and activities.
- Accurately fills and maintains medication supplies including verifying and monitoring controlled substance inventories to ensure security, accuracy, cost effectiveness, and 340B/Charging management as required to practice site.
- Packages and labels medications accurately and appropriately to minimize waste as appropriate to practice site and job duties.
- Ensures pharmacy cleanliness and orderliness as appropriate to practice site.
- Communicates with caregivers regarding responsibilities, identified concerns, and participates in quality and patient safety initiatives, identifying potential safety hazards that may create problems for patients and/or staff and takes appropriate actions to escalate items to the pharmacist for review as appropriate based on urgency, regulations, and scope.
- Participates in departmental meetings, contributing ideas or feedback and identifies potential areas for improvement including processes that could be streamlined or revised to improve patient satisfaction and seeks a team approach to developing and achieving best practices and processes.

This position floats between Banner Family Pharmacy at Gateway Medical Center, Banner Family Pharmacy at Banner Baywood Medical Center, Banner Family Pharmacy at Banner Desert Medical Center, and Banner Family Pharmacy at Banner University Medical Center Phoenix, providing coverage for planned and unplanned staffing needs, including PTO, sick leave, and holiday coverage. This role offers the opportunity to work across multiple pharmacy locations while supporting seamless operations and ensuring exceptional patient care
POSITION SUMMARY
This position will prepare, dispense, and compound medication under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist. Provide prescription support services for patients to ensure safe, appropriate, effective and efficient delivery of medication therapy. Provide excellent customer service skills, high attention to detail, strong problem solving, documentation and computer skills. Work closely with the multidisciplinary healthcare team to support pharmaceutical care activities, complete pharmacy billing activities, record keeping, reporting, inventory management, and arrange appropriate medication delivery.
CORE FUNCTIONS
1.Under the direct supervision of a pharmacist, review and interpret prescriptions.
2.Prepare and dispense appropriate amount of medication under supervision of a pharmacist. Deliver medications accurately to the patient.
3.Answer phones, accept prescriptions, and may communicate with patients in waiting area.
4. Assist with inventory, maintain a clean work environment, and assist with any other administrative duties as assigned by supervising pharmacists or senior technicians.
5. Follow policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements and perform other work assignment.
May require periodic to frequent use of personal computer.
Off-site travel may be required.
This is not a safety sensitive position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Requires Pharmacy Technician licensure and active Pharmacy Technician certification OR Pharmacy Intern licensure in the state of practice.
Incumbents in Arizona are also required to provide the AZ Board of Pharmacy Wallet Card at time of hire.
Minimal experience, typically gained through 0-2 years relevant work experience. Ability to attend and successfully complete 160 hours of on the job training required. Strong customer service focus, superior problem-solving abilities. Ability to complete moderate to difficult mathematical calculations using a hand-held calculator is required.
BSS Registry Team members and Travelers are not eligible to drive on behalf of Banner and are not required to possess a valid driver’s license or be eligible for coverage under the company’s auto insurance policy.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Associates or bachelor’s degree in related field preferred. Proficiency and experience with third party claims adjudication and claims rejection reconciliation preferred. Proficiency and experience with non-sterile, sterile and hazardous drug compounding preferred. Work experience which demonstrates analytical ability, judgment and interpersonal skills in pharmacy or healthcare preferred. Experience and proficiency with computer software applications (Word, Excel, Outlook) or comparable program.
Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
