PHARMACY TECH LEAD
NAMPA MEDICAL CENTER
SUMMARY:
Support pharmacy management by guiding daily pharmacy technician operations. Ensure other pharmacy technicians have the resources and training necessary to perform their jobs effectively. Oversee either pharmacy automation, packaging,ora dedicated pharmacy technician operations in tandem with pharmacy leadership and serves as a leader and mentor to pharmacy technician peers.
HOURS: You will enjoy three days off each week! The position will be four 10-hour days, M-F.
REQUIREMENTS:
Must be licensed as a Certified Pharmacy Technician with the Idaho State Board of Pharmacy.
Minimum of 3 years of experience as a pharmacy technician required; hospital experience required; preferred to have 6 months with Saint Alphonsus.
National Certification (CPhT, ExCPT or equivalent) required.
Completion of college level certificate or bachelor’s degree preferred.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
Supervises and assists pharmacy technicians with their roles in the pharmacy.
Provides structure and oversight for pharmacy technician orientation, training, and competency assurance. Coaches less experienced staff.
Schedules pharmacy technicians, finds replacements for technicians out sick or on vacation and ensures shift changes run smoothly.
Reviews and adjusts workflow to meet work demand (ex. sick calls, high patient volumes). Appropriately utilizes resources to ensure shifts are adequately covered.
Conducts technician huddles and participates in department quarterly and annual meetings.
Assists in hiring/recruitment (in coordination with pharmacy management)
Counsels staff members on their performance and provides documentation of exemplary and unsatisfactory work performance at time of occurrence. Assists in performance evaluations in coordination with pharmacy management.
Monitors monthly technician tasks (e.g., outdates, unit inspections)and provides follow up.
Provides administrative and clerical support with regards to keeping records, running reports, and maintenance of data
Supports timekeeping functions.
Provides automated systems oversight and delegates duties, as appropriate.
Maintains security and confidentiality of passwords for automated systems.
Maintains system user files ensuring addition of new users, assignment of passwords and appropriate user privileges, and removal of terminated users in a timely manner.
Ensures that look-alike, sound-alike medications are segregated in automated distribution equipment.
Generates appropriate reports at specified times.
Maintains outdated medication tracking function, ensuring appropriate expiration dates are entered, stock is rotated, and expired items removed.
Oversees the filling of medications on restock lists and quarantines until checked and verified by a pharmacist; oversees the loading of medications from restock lists into automated distribution system correctly.
Oversees processes for establishing and maintaining any medication kits/boxes/carts outside of automated dispensing cabinets.
Maintains appropriate par levels for inventories in automated distribution equipment.
Conducts controlled substances inventories and reconciliation in automated distribution system in accordance with state laws and regulations and facility policy.
Reviews controlled substances discrepancy reports daily and reconciles unresolved discrepancies appropriately and in a timely manner as specified
by facility policy.
Utilizes data mining software to analyze data and identify inappropriateuse of the automated distribution system.
Ensures that automation processes are aligned with hospital policy (i.e., storage of controlled substances, hazardous medications, etc…).
Provides oversight of drug shortage management as they relate to pharmacy automation processes.
Assists with communicating with hospital colleagues regarding pharmacy automation processes.
Participates in quality assurance and continuous quality improvement activities.
Develops and enforces policies and procedures that promote safe, appropriate, and cost-effective medication use.
Prepares trending reports as appropriate for quality improvement activities based on analysis of data.
Provides courteous, cooperative, and timely service to patients, visitors, and staff members; demonstrates good oral and written communication.
Aids in the day-to-day needs of the department (in coordination with pharmacy management)
Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills.
Effectively uses available software and information systems.
Adheres to health-system policies and procedures; complies with all requirements related to risk management, safety, medication-use safety, security, fire safety, and infection control; complies with all applicable federal/state/local laws, rules, and regulations; and performs all duties under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist.
Performs essential duties of pharmacy technicians when needed and as assigned.

Job Description:
The Pharmacy Technician demonstrates consistent application of knowledge and skills in assisting the pharmacist in execution of appropriate, safe, efficacious, efficient, and cost-effective pharmaceutical care. The position participates in many procedural aspects of pharmacy practice under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist or technician supervisor and is an integral part of the pharmacy team. This position supports Pharmacy Services in all locations (i.e., acute, community, ambulatory, specialty).
Essential Functions
- Assists with all phases of pharmacy services while under the supervision of a pharmacist as required by state of practice and job duties.
- Answers phones and provides excellent customer service as appropriate to practice site.
- Assists the pharmacist in collecting clinical and other patient information and maintaining appropriate records as required by regulation and policy.
- Utilizes pharmacy technology effectively to prepare medication orders for dispensing, performs calculations as necessary, and compounds medications for accurate compounding as appropriate to practice site, in accordance with state law, policies, procedures, and protocols.
- Attains appropriate supervision and accuracy checks by the pharmacist(s) and clearly understands when a pharmacist must verify tasks and activities.
- Accurately fills and maintains medication supplies including verifying and monitoring controlled substance inventories to ensure security, accuracy, cost effectiveness, and 340B/Charging management as required to practice site.
- Packages and labels medications accurately and appropriately to minimize waste as appropriate to practice site and job duties.
- Ensures pharmacy cleanliness and orderliness as appropriate to practice site.
- Communicates with caregivers regarding responsibilities, identified concerns, and participates in quality and patient safety initiatives, identifying potential safety hazards that may create problems for patients and/or staff and takes appropriate actions to escalate items to the pharmacist for review as appropriate based on urgency, regulations, and scope.
- Participates in departmental meetings, contributing ideas or feedback and identifies potential areas for improvement including processes that could be streamlined or revised to improve patient satisfaction and seeks a team approach to developing and achieving best practices and processes.
- Promotes mission, vision, and values of Intermountain Health, and abides by service behavior standards.
- Delivers detail-oriented, consistent, flexible care and completes advanced tasks consistent with scope and performs other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications
- High School or equivalent is required
- Current pharmacy technician certification and/or license applicable to state of practice.
- Current knowledge of state and federal regulations and statutes regarding the practice of pharmacy and the distribution of approved drugs, controlled substances, and investigational agents.
- Any lapse or failure to meet these requirements may result in disciplinary action, up to termination, at the hiring manager's discretion.

The position participates in many procedural aspects of pharmacy practice under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist or technician supervisor and is an integral part of the pharmacy team. This position supports Pharmacy Services in all locations (i.e., acute, community, ambulatory, specialty).
This position will work 1430-2300 every Monday and every other Tuesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
Essential Functions
- Assists with all phases of pharmacy services while under the supervision of a pharmacist as required by state of practice and job duties.
- Answers phones and provides excellent customer service as appropriate to practice site.
- Assists the pharmacist in collecting clinical and other patient information and maintaining appropriate records as required by regulation and policy.
- Utilizes pharmacy technology effectively to prepare medication orders for dispensing, performs calculations as necessary, and compounds medications for accurate compounding as appropriate to practice site, in accordance with state law, policies, procedures, and protocols.
- Attains appropriate supervision and accuracy checks by the pharmacist(s) and clearly understands when a pharmacist must verify tasks and activities.
- Accurately fills and maintains medication supplies including verifying and monitoring controlled substance inventories to ensure security, accuracy, cost effectiveness, and 340B/Charging management as required to practice site.
- Packages and labels medications accurately and appropriately to minimize waste as appropriate to practice site and job duties.
- Ensures pharmacy cleanliness and orderliness as appropriate to practice site.
- Communicates with caregivers regarding responsibilities, identified concerns, and participates in quality and patient safety initiatives, identifying potential safety hazards that may create problems for patients and/or staff and takes appropriate actions to escalate items to the pharmacist for review as appropriate based on urgency, regulations, and scope.
- Participates in departmental meetings, contributing ideas or feedback and identifies potential areas for improvement including processes that could be streamlined or revised to improve patient satisfaction and seeks a team approach to developing and achieving best practices and processes.

What You Will Do:

Facilitating medication dispensing via Automated Dispensing Cabinets on our patient care units
Assists in the dispensing of orders/prescriptions through our pharmacy inventory system
Assists in inventory control by processing our daily Pharmacy Department order; assuring proper stock rotation, storage and appropriate expiration dating. Escalates medication and non-medication orders to the Purchasing Team
Assists the department with proper billing of patients and other units
Preparation of sterile products (including chemotherapy) using aseptic technique, in compliance with regulatory standards

High school graduation or equivalent
Approved Pharmacy Technician Certification
Completion of a Pharmacy Technician Training Program or previous relevant pharmacy technician experience is required. Greater than 3 years' experience is preferred, with a background in either USP 795/Non-Sterile Compounding, USP 797/Sterile Compounding or Pyxis

This incumbent is enrolled as a student in a college of pharmacy for the first year of education. CORE FUNCTIONS

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Reads and interprets physician's medication orders, assists with filling, processing and dispensing of medications, re-packages and labels medication, including bulk supplies, with final check performed by a pharmacist.
Maintains cleanliness and aseptic technique while following established departmental compounding practices and procedures when mixing intravenous admixtures including IVPBs, large volume parenterals, and total parenteral nutrition, if necessary. Prior to performing drug preparation proven competency while working aseptically in a horizontal or vertical laminar (biological safety cabinet) flow hood using aseptic technique is required. Adheres to USP 797/USP 800 Guidelines.
Delivers controlled substances and other medications to nursing units' automated medication dispensing cabinets (ADC). Delivers other medication, IV solutions and all necessary forms throughout the hospital on a regularly scheduled basis to patient care areas.
Prepares medications and subsequently loads and unloads medication into ADC with appropriate bar code scanning. Fills inventory needs for nursing unit ADCs, non-cabinet stock, and fills unit dose drawers by placing the proper drugs in the bins according to the computerized patient profile.
Supports the drug inventory process including rotation and restocking of drug dispensing areas with drugs and supplies needed to process patient medication orders. Ensures the maintenance of a clean and orderly work area.
Answers phones according to established phone etiquette and directs calls to the proper personnel. Determines when phone calls or emergency situations need to be referred to a pharmacist.
Completes nursing unit inspections, as assigned. Restocks crash cart trays and OCMCA boxes etc., as required in a timely manner. Alerts the pharmacists or pharmacy management of any discrepancies.
Fills controlled substance orders and reconciles all discrepancies on a daily basis. Reports any discrepancies to the pharmacist or pharmacy management as appropriate. Monitors any unusual activity for potential drug diversion.

This position will focus on payor contracting for retail and specialty pharmacies for the Enterprise.
Due to complex requirements, remote work is NOT permitted in: CA, DC, CO, CT, HI, MA, MD, MN, ND, NJ, NY, OR, RI, VT, WA and working Internationally.*
Pay Range:
$75.40 - $120.65Essential Functions
- Leads team to meet the managed care contracting objectives of MHR and the System.
- Ensures appropriate negotiation planning is completed and presented.
- Develops contracting strategy to support the growth of the System through meeting the critical needs of affiliate facilities as well as supporting operational changes within owned facilities.
- Ensures MHR team members negotiates appropriate contract rates and language within established deadlines with financial results that meets or exceeds net revenue budgets and net margin targets to support the mission of the System.
- Provides the System with accurate and current managed care market intelligence; maintains a working understanding of local/regional/national trends, conducts competitive market assessments, changes and impact of regulatory environment, changes and impact of payor initiatives and provides other information to support MHR and the System initiatives.
- Ensure Managed Care Analytics team members accurately and timely completes all required analyzes and contract modeling to support Managed Care Contracting and Payor Relations activities.
- Oversees the development and delivery of standard contract metrics, reporting frequency, and delivery of Executive Summary report to measure portfolio performance.
Physical Requirements
Performs most work under normal office conditions. May include sitting for long periods, standing, driving, walking. Intact sight and hearing with or without assistive devices required. Require frequent verbal and written communications in English to payors, teammates, physicians, and others throughout the System.
Education, Experience and Certification
Master's Degree required (MBA or MHA); Bachelor's Degree with comparable senior-level experience may be considered. Minimum seven years of contract negotiation experience required, or 10 years of combined provider and/or payor contracting experience. Must have a proven record of closing negotiations on time and at or above budget expectations, with demonstrated experience negotiating retail and specialty pharmacy contracts, including payer, PBM, specialty pharmacy, and retail network arrangements. Experience working for a pharmaceutical company or within the pharmacy services function of a multi-entity health system preferred.
